IPhoto Import Still Broken?

I can't get Aperture 1.1 to import from iPhoto 6.0.2
It shows the rolls (out of order no less) but no photos.
Any thoughts?

Richard, I think we might experiencing the same problem. I am trying to import my iPhoto 6.0.2 library into aperture, but found that the bulk of my pictures are not showing up - well, they show up, but they are blank and marked as "Unrecognized Format."
If you are seeing this same thing, I suspect it afflicts original unedited pictures in iPhoto libraries that you have set to not copy the picture into the iPhoto library when you import. This is the setting that I use. As a result, you have an alias/link to the picture in the actual iPhoto library rather than the picture itself and apparently Aperture doesn't know how to handle aliases.
I hope they come up with a fix for this problem as I'd hate to have to reorganize all my pictures again.

  • Safari save image to iPhoto library still broken?

I have also run across the problem where I choose (right click in Safari) to save an image to the iPhoto library and the only thing that happens is that iPhoto opens. The image is not saved. I have done this on 8 different machines now, all running 10.4.2 with the latest Safari and iPhoto and all do the same thing. I see this has come up for discussion here before and it doesn't look like Apple has solved this yet. Does anyone have any idea of how this can be fixed?

Hi Arthur, I've been trying to figure this issue out for MONTHS. I gave up a while ago but have now found the solution! At least for me this works, some steps may not be necessary but this is what worked for me:
    1) Backup your iPhoto Library and then move it to the desktop (or just move it to the desktop)
    2) Backup your iPhoto LIbrary plist file (located in ~user/library/preferences or move it to the desktop (its called: com.apple.iPhoto.plist)
    3) Delete iPhoto from the Applications folder and reinstall JUST iphoto from the iLife 05 disc
    4) Repair permissions with the Disk Utility App
    5) Launch iPhoto and then quit (this will create a new library folder and plist file
    6) Download the iPhoto 5.0.4 updater and install, repair permissions again
    7) Then, move your backed up (or if you just moved it to the desktop) iPhoto library folder back to the Pictures folder replacing the new one that was created and do the same for the plist file you backed up
    8) Finally, launch iPhoto again and it should work, let me know, good luck.

  • Since my last software update, my iphoto 11 will not import any photos from any source. The circle just spins...when I go to force quit, it says iphoto not responding. Backed up iphoto library, uninstalled and reinstalled iphoto. Still not working. Help!

Since my last software update, my iphoto 11 will not import any photos from any source. The circle just spins...when I go to force quit, it says iphoto not responding. Backed up iphoto library, uninstalled and reinstalled iphoto. Still not working. Help!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • My playback screen in iMovie '11 is always blank or a still, broken picture. How do I fix this?

    Picture of my screen: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/88/screenshot20120623at929.png/
Sometimes it ends up like this: a still, broken picture: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/688/screenshot20120623at929.png/
I don't know what happened. It was fine until I tried to play back a video I was making and it didn't want to. Imported videos play fine, but when I drag a clip to the editing part it doesn't play.
I also made a short project a while ago, but no matter what I tried I couldn't delete it. I also couldn't play it again or even access the editing screen
I don't know if I imported too many videos, or have too many videos in the Project Library, but the playback screen is just not working!
The audio is completely fine, however.
    What happened?

    Hi
Have no clue - but You might try some of this
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • IPhoto Import no working properly

Another issue pertaining to iPhoto import, unrelated to disk space errors.
What I'm see is missing events and pictures. I went to Aperture and selected import -> iPhoto -> keep files in current location.
A3 imported many pictures (probably most), but is still missing a few events (as well as missing pictures within events that actually did make it) and completely botched faces - the previews don't show the face of the person as you hover your mouse over them, as it does in iPhoto.
Is this really supposed to be a pro version of iPhoto? What a disappointment.

I have been fighting this issue. I have issued bug reports to Apple. I have more than 13000 images (a large number of them scanned in from old photos). On import Aperture(3.02) loses some 60 events and nearly 3000 images. Even the iPhoto browser breaks for me. If is scroll down to some event and open it the images are not from the event and from there on the browser is broken -- have to restart Aperture. I rebuilt the iPhoto library (using iPhoto's built in rebuild capability as well a third party application which will rebuild the library. I have looked for bad keyword and found none (I do not use the keyword facility). I tried exporting the photos Aperture missed but Aperture would on occasion not recognize jpeg files in the finder-- it showed the folder to be empty. I would like to switch because it has some features I really like but as it stands it is unusable.

  • Photos deleted from iPhoto, but still in Library folder

    iPhoto 9.5.1
Strange behavior in iPhoto : let's say I imported 100 photos. Then, in iPhoto, deleted 80, keeping 20. Emptied trash in iPhoto. Then emptied Trash in Finder.
Let's say the "_DSC1234.JPG" photo was among deleted files. When searching "_DSC1234.JPG" in Spotlight, I find it in the "Master" folder of the "iPhoto Library" folder (Photothèque in French).
I've got a lot of photos deleted, but kept in Library, Not good for privacy, not good for hard drive space.
For exemple, I find 514 ".NEF" photos in the iPhoto searchbox. But when searching in the iPhoto LIbrary folder with Spotlight for files with ".NEF" in their names, I find 1048 ! No duplicates, no previews or "faces" (hey are in JPEG), but photos I deleted, before emptying iPhoto and Finder trash !!
    Rebuilding Library didn't help.
I'm using a user account not allowed to administrate the computer. Maybe a link ?
The question was already asked, but never answered :
Growing iPhoto Library, deleted photos still in folders
Deleted Photos:  Why are they still in my iphoto library folder?
Photos deleted from within iPhoto are still in Library folder
    Thanks for your help !

Strange behavior again, with the original library : If I select NO event and use the menu Information, I've got 14.634 photos. If I select all events, I've got 15.760 photos. How can I have more photos in all events than in my Library ??????
Check, if you have hidden photos.
File > New Smart Album,  with a rule: Photo is hidden
In my iPhoto Library the "Hidden" flag accounts for the difference in the Photos count between selecting all events and no events.
Make sure, "View > Hidden Photos" is enabled in the View menu, so you can recognize hidden photos by the X.

  • Photos and photo albums disappeared, but iPhoto library still has 60 GB.

Photos and photo albums disappeared, web gallery titles remain but show (0). iPhoto library still has 60 GB size. How do I retrieve photos, events and albums. Thanks in advance.

Are you getting an "!" in the window when you try to edit a photo. The "!" means that the library has lost the file path to the original file. This happens when there has been an interruption to iPhoto while it is writing to it's database file, Library6.iPhoto. Moving, renaming files or folder inside the library package while in the Finder is another way you can get that indication. Try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto import Browser failure, after security update?

Hi, Anyone else had this problem?
    iPhoto import Browser failure.
No Events or Albums show, although PhotoBooth is visible, error message 'Open iPhoto 5 or later to see photos...'
This used to work, but not since installing Security Update 2010-006 (1.0),
    with "iTunes" (10.0.1) and JavaForMacOSX10.6Update3.
    Using iPhoto '09 (8.1.2), iMovie '09 (8.0.6).
Heard mention that now only alpha-numeric characters are allowed for file names and titles, so started replacing "&", apostrophes, etc. But there are a LOT of photos to change!
    Console shows:
    [0x0-0x15015].com.apple.iPhoto[264]
    MRMovieServer[273] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure
Tried repairing permissions, but got a warning about a SUID file has been modified and will not be repaired, (not sure if this is relevant).
Removed com.apple.iApps.plist and com.apple.iMovie8.plist, which then gave a slightly different view of the browser in iMovie.
Can no longer drag items from iPhoto either!
Any ideas of how to proceed (and remain sane)?

    Hi,
I've had something like this, since October.
Firstly, In the Utilities folder, open Disk Utility, select the disk where the Applications are (Main hard disk) click First Aid, then "Repair Permissions". Leave it running with nothing else open.
When finished, open iMovie, click the photo browser icon, any luck?
Seen an Apple support doc 'Cannot see iPhoto in other Apps', basically you may be right about ampersands & apostrophes.
In iPhoto, look at all your smart album names for non-alpha-numeric characters, and replace or delete the possible culprits. I had lots of these, including brackets (which were not a problem until recently). Keep checking your smart albums to find others, such as these: !@£$%^&()[]{}'\"|~.
Quit iPhoto and all other iLife Apps, then in your home folder, Library, Preferences, move 'com.apple.iApps.plist' to the desktop (this will be recreated when you next open an iApp/iLife application, such as iPhoto).
You may need to remake the iPhoto AlbumData.xml file, after all that name editing. See later.
Open iMovie and click the photo browser icon, if you still get the message, rather than Albums and Events, Quit iMovie.
Open iPhoto, double check your source list for folders which you may have smart albums in, (click the triangle to the left of any folders that you've made to reveal their contents). Repeat the search and replace of special characters. I'd missed a few, hiding in folders.
Now would be a good time to remake the iPhoto 'AlbumData.xml' file.
Quit all applications, go to your Pictures folder, iPhoto Library, ctrl-click, 'Show package contents', drag 'AlbumData.xml' to the desktop.
    Close the finder windows.
Open iPhoto, create a new album, then Quit, (this should remake the xml file).
Open iMovie again and click the photo browser icon. This is the point where I had success, I hope it works for you as well.
    All the best, Ian

My macbook pro crashed after installing maverick. I lost all my photos however the iPhone iPhoto app still has these photos so how can i access the package contents to recover these photos?

We'll need to know more to beable to help. Do you want to try to restore your photos from your iPhone to your Mac, or try to recover the photos from the old iPhoto Library on your Mac?
What is the situation of your Mac now? In hat way did it crash? A hardware problem with the drive? Does the system not start properly? Does iPhoto not launch? Do you still have the iPhoto Library on your mac or a backup, so we could try to rescue the photos there?
What versions of iPhoto are on your iPhone and your Mac?
however the iPhone iPhoto app still has these photos so how can i access the package contents to recover these photos?
On the iPhone you cannot access the "package contents" - IOS hides the file system from the users. To restore photos from your phone share all iPhoto photos to your Camera Roll, that are not already in the Camera Roll,  and then connect the iPhone via USB and import the Camera Roll to iPhoto or Image Capture. Or use any of the other sharing methods described on thos manual page: see:  Ways to share photos http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnk7d8f763e
To retrieve photos from a corruptrd iPhoto Library on your Mac we need to know the version number and more about the "crash" you experienced, the state of your mac, the system, the data. Please post back with more details.

  • I want to import still images to make a stop motion animation, but when I try to change the duration of still images, it isn't reflected in the timeline.  How can I do this?

I want to import still images to make a stop motion animation, but when I try to change the duration of still images, it isn't reflected in the timeline.  How can I do this?

    Tonaw,
If you import your still images using iPhoto, then the time you set for each still, using FCPX Perferences works.
You can set the durantion from 1 frame to as long as you want them view.
If you do not use iPhoto to import your stills, the default is 10 sec's.
FYI: This issue was brought up within a month after FCPX was released. They found out by using iPhoto, you had better control of the amount of time your still was viewed.

  • IPhoto import does not preserve rotation

Just installed the trial version, and imported my library from iPhoto. I used the option to keep the files in their original location.
When I view the images in aperture, many of the images are incorrectly rotated. Note that they display correctly in iPhoto and in MacOS Preview, but Aperture got em wrong. How can I fix this without manually going in and re-rotating everything in Aperture?

For anyone who is still following this thread, here's a summary of findings, along with a workaround.
Problem: Images imported from iPhoto are upside down, subject to the following constraints:
    1) Only images that had keywords "iPhoto Original"
    2) Very old images from my old Nikon E990 were unaffected. Also unaffected were scanned images that were pulled in from my Coolscan V.
    3) Only images that were oriented in "Portrait" were affected.
    Workaround:
    1) In the Library tab, select "iPhoto Library". (This library was created via the iPhoto Import process.
    2) In the filter box, create a filter matching "all" the following criteria:
    - Text includes iPhoto Original
    - Aperture Orientation is Portrait
    3) Select all images that are upside down and click the "rotate" tool twice to flip 'em.
Note: If you have many portrait images, you can further filter by camera since it appears that older devices were not impacted.

Hm. Well, I promise that when I used to catch a fish on that Flick Fishing game, that there would be a vibration. I don't know how the device or the game made it happen, but I don't think I would mistake a sound for a movement of/in the device itself. I just played the game with the sound up, and there was still no wiggle. I suppose in the end, its really not that important. I know that there was a "wiggle" in that game before the latest Apple software update, that there isn't one now, so I'll just chalk it up to an "improvement."

  • Iphoto import freezes preventing me from logging out

Iphoto suggest I'm still trying to import a file but I cancelled the operation as it seemed to be taking too long but it doesn't seem to recognise that the task was cancelled. It's left me in a strange position that I can't do some operations as the iphoto importing must be taking presidence over some other operations. e.g it wont let me logout or restart the computer.

    Hi Terence,
I was eventually able to use the iphoto force quit after I removed the printer/scanning device. Before inporting I had scanned a document but received a connection error. I don't know if it was coincidence or not but once I removed the device I was able to use the force quit option.
    Thanks for your assistance

  • Default duration time for importing still images

    Hello all,
Is there an easy way to change the default duration time for imported still images?
I have thousands of images that I want to import to make a time elapsed movie. I would like for these images to have a duration of less than a second. I could do this individually, but it would take forever.
Can the default duration time for imported images be changed?
    Thanks,
    Adam

    Hi
Too long time I made anything serious in iMovie HD6 (altough a a very competent editor)
    (Took the FinalCut leap)
As I remember (just tested) it - if photos are imported then it's a tedious labor
to set duration - one at a time. No global function I can induce.
BUT - I would put my photos into a separate folder in iPhoto so that they are easy
to get in iMovie from audio/photo browser.
Then I select (in iMovie) the first photo and double click on it to view it on canvas.
Now I also get a small gray window where I can set size and duration.
    I select 01:00 (1 sec) in duration and Apply/Use.
Then I selec the rest of the photos and drag them down to TimeLine after first
photo. And they also get same duration of 01:00.

  • Importing Stills - iMovie 4

I am nearly done with a graduation movie, but suddenly I'm having trouble importing stills through iphoto. When I select the picture through the photos tab, it looks fine, until I drag it to the timeline. Then it becomes mostly a black still with just a tiny part of the original photo showing. I did recently repair & verify permissions on the hard drive, but other than that, I can't think of anything I've changed. Can you tell me what to try next?
