Iphoto importing canon jpeg issues

I am unable to import any photos to my new imac leopard os. I have tried using flash jumpdrives, CD's, DVD's, different brands of CF cards/readers. I have tried using images from all 3 of my canon cameras (rebel xt, 20D, 40D). The photos appear as if they are uploading, then when the system states finishing upload at end, the iphoto system closes down. I have taken the machine to my local apple store & the techs are unable to figure out the problem (they have updated all software & reinstalled it. They state it is not a hard drive problem) They were also unable to upload any of my jpegs to their leopard systems. I do not have this problem with my macbook pro laptop tiger os or my dell pc. Anyone know how to fix this!

I am unable to import any photos to my new imac leopard os
do I understand this correctly - you have done the following and have not been able to get a single photo onto your new iMac
1 - connected each of three different cameras and tried to import the photos to iPhoto - Have you tried image capture? will your camera's mount to the desk top so you can drag the photos to your iMac?
2 - using a flash jump drive - I assume that the photos on it were imported to another computer and places on the flash drive - in this case have you tried dragging them to the desktop, using image capture and using iPhoto?
3 - same questions for CDs, DVDs and the card readers
I'm missing a big piece of the problem somehow

  • Can't import a jpeg file to iPhoto

    Hello,
I'm having trouble importing a jpeg file from another user to my iPhoto. We are both admins, file sharing is on for both users, read and write is on for both users. (I toggled file sharing on/off to see if it would update, and no changes).
In the file sharing, the shared folders are documents, pictures, and downloads folders. The jpeg file is filed on the desktop and in the pictures folder. When I do a File/Import to Library, and search for the jpeg file, it comes up greyed out.
My last option is that I emailed the jpeg from the other user's iPhoto to myself. I was going to go into my email and see if I could save the jpeg and try to import it that way?
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you tried just dragging the file into the open iPhoto Library window? What version of iPhoto are you using?
What color mode (RGB, grayscale, CMYK, etc.) is it and what color profile is embedded (sRGB, Adobe RGB, Dot Gain 20%-grayscale, CMYK)?

  • Can't import Canon G12 RAW images into iPhoto 6.0.6

unable to import Canon G12 RAW images into iPhoto 6.0.6 (Mac OS-X (10.5.8) - any ideas?

You'll need to install the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.5 - Search the Support/Downloads site for that.
It still may not work. Iphoto 6 is an elderly piece of software now and predates your camera by several years. If it doesn't work you'll need to update to iPhoto 09 or later.

  • I photo automatically converted my raw imports to jpegs, where do i find the original raw format photos so I can put them in lightroom? How do i prevent iPhoto from doing this?

can anyone help me with the above question??

iPhoto converts nothing. When you import a Raw iPhoto generates a Jpeg preview that is used for sharing via media browswers. This is also what you get if you drag and drop. Your Raw is preserved, untouched.
File -> Export and set the Kind to Original will get your Raws.

  • Why cant i import Canon CR2 RAW pic into iPhoto?

Anyone know why cant I import Canon CR2 RAW pic into iPhoto???

Although all Canon RAW files are are suffixed CR2, they are not all the same. In fact, each model of Camera produces a different RAW. What camera do you have? Is it in the Supported List?

Have you applied all the Camera RAW updates?

  • Aperture 2.3 update and Canon 350 (xsi) RAW+JPEG issue

Anyone know if this update fixes the problem with importing RAW+JPEG captures from Canon 350 (xsi)? I'd hate to download this update and then have to un-do it (again).
    Thanks!

Not using a canon 50d, using a Sony a900 instead. Actually, DPP is special because it does absolutely no noise reduction (at least in AHD mode). You can see that it is actually noisier but with a much finer grain pattern than ACR, aperture, raw developer, etc. You don't get the blotchiness associated with the NR of these other converters. The beauty of this is that when you run it through your grain reducing software it is much better for the software to deal with (the noise hasn't been processed by any NR software- which makes the noise non-random) and as such produces much cleaner images. I just did a comparison of the noise with the A900... here are links of the comparison using a publicly available Imaging Resource Raw file:

Aperture doesn't do a bad job, better than most others, but still not as good as RPP.

  • I have imported a jpeg photo into iPhoto and cannot get the Places map to let me fix a position on the map. It remains disabled for my photo. Checking out the Help file has not given any solution.

I have imported a jpeg photo into iPhoto  and cannot get the Places map tp show. I have tried the Help file and the information was not helpful. Can anyone give advice here?

I am using iPhoto 9.1.1. When I select thephoto, then Places I get the window (Places to lookup disabled). When I hit theInfo button I get the size an JPEG notification, and  Faces and Key words. The “reverse” of thepicture shows a window with Rotate, Hide, Trash etc.
When I select Places, get the Google worldmap, and this case a pin on Sydney Australia showing that eighteen photos arecorrectly placed. I am unable to make the connection to San Francisco wherethis particular photo was taken on a very modern camera.

  • Iphoto importing issue

why is iphoto importing doubles from iphone 6 and ipad?

    It looks like a bug-
There are several reports, that this has been happening, since the iOS 8.1 release. It happens in iPhoto, Image Capture, Aperture, but not all are seeing this problem.
    For example, see these discussions:
iPhoto Yosemite duplicates Photos while importing from iPhone
iPhoto 9.6 shows duplicate photos present on iPhone
Connecting iPhone duplicates photos in iPhoto
duplicate photos in camera roll on iPhoto
Unfortunately, there is no clear picture yet, what circumstances will make it happen, and how to prevent it.
For some forum members it was the Photo Stream, others found it was caused by HDR photos, for some the problem went away after the 8.1.2 update, for others it started with this update.
A few forum members reported, that it helped to dismount the iPhone and plug it in again, and then the duplicates went away.

  • Aperture Import Window shuts on import of JPEGs. Won't import JPEGs HZ35W.

Just got a new camera, Samsung HZ35W aka WB650. Files are on SD card, and I am trying to import them from the SD card into Aperture 3.1.1:
    - camera is shooting JPEG only, no RAW
    - I can see the JPEG files in Finder and in Aperture
    - do not import duplicates is not checked
    - import JPEG only files is checked
    - this camera has geo tagging capabilities
When I click import checked, the import window just shuts down and no import occurs. I have just imported from my Canon 5D card so I know import works. If I move the files to the Mac HD and try and import the file, the same thing happens - the import window just shuts with no error message.
I can import these JPEGs into iPhoto with no issue. I have tried importing just one or two of the files, but same result. I am doing something dumb? Why is the import window just shutting like that?
    Thanks!

OK, I shut down Aperature and restarted and it's working now...

  • Canon G6 Issues

I am having issues with my Canon G6:
    1) The import panel does not show thumbnails of raw files, jpegs show up just fine.
    2) The focal length is completely wrong. At the widest angle (7mm) aperture shows 230mm.
These issues appear to be part of the raw support for Canon as iPhoto has the same issues.
I have searched for (canon AND focal AND length) or (canon AND thumbnail AND raw) in this forum but turned up no answer, or similar question.
Thanks in advance for any advice you might offer...

Hi ..sorry; I was away for a couple of days..
"..the imported HD video in iMovie is in the Apple Intermediate Codec. The video imported into FCP is in HDV codec.." ..That's normal: iMovie uses the AIC to "rebuild" the missing MPEG-2 frames in which HD is recorded on the tape.
FCP is a different animal altogether, and doesn't need the AIC.
..Did you do a QuickTime upgrade which may have disturbed iMovie? ..I wouldn't bother re-installing the OS - that's a bit drastic! ..and you'd have to make sure that you re-installed using 'Archive and Install' so that you didn't lose any of your existing settings - but if you've recently applied a QuickTime update, I'd re-apply it, just to make sure that it 'sticks'.
I'm surprised that it won't capture HD if you start a new project with an existing HD clip (..which you've dragged in there from another project..) because playing an HD clip first, before importing more, usually convinces iMovie that it really can handle incoming HD.
Have you recently added any other codecs; Flip4Mac, DivX ..anything like that? If so, try removing them from wherever they may be (..probably one of your QuickTime>Plugins folders ..either within your username area, or in the main Library ..or possibly even in the System>Library..) and putting them somewhere else - like your Desktop - and then doing a restart.
Have you added a RealPlayer codec, or a WMV player? ..any of these might interfere with the AIC. Just reinstalling the AIC on its own might not 'take', and so it may be necessary (..if you had added extra video players..) to re-install iMovie HD 6, from your DVD or whatever it came on, and then doing the upgrade(s) again.
Sorry: I can't think of anything else just now which might fix it..

  • Photo quality and compression in iphoto vs canon's image browser, et. al.

hello. brand new here and very new to macs. the question I have is this:
when you import photos to iphoto, do the photos get compressed? do you lose any quality that you wouldn't lose by importing them to image browser or another program?
a friend who is a semi-professional photographer said that some quality is lost in iphoto through compression, but #1) she's probably on an older version than '09 and #2) I know she almost always shoots in raw, so I don't know how much importing of jpegs she does anyway. I am not talking about raw photos, but jpegs shot in the highest resolution (I have a canon g9, which is 12.1 megapixels). she always imports to image browser.
    thanks very much,
    sean

What format is the external disk? If it's a FAT format this will account for the discrepancy as the FAT format cannot make sense of the Resource fork in the Mac files. Also, the blunt fact is that the Finder can be an unreliable reporter of file sizes.
One reliable way to check if the pics are duplicates is to use Graphic Coverter.
As to the file size in iPhoto - reported in the iPhoto Window. Your camera has an Auto-Rotate feature. However, the camera does not actually rotate any pixels in the file, but instead flags it with an instruction: "Display me this way". No photo app with editing can respect this flag, so iPhoto, seeing the flag, reads the intention and creates a modified version. If you then try to Revert to Original, iPhoto will remove the edited version. However, when it then looks at the Original file again, it sees the flag, and creates a new rotated version. This loop will run as long as you Revert to the Original. The solution is to either a: turn off the Auto-Rotate feature on your camera or b: rotate the photos prior to importing them to iPhoto.
Obviously as it involves compression there is data loss. That's the 2.4 Version.
BTW: are you aware of the Non-Destructive Editing feature in iPhoto?
    As to your workflow:
iPhoto is good for 250,000 images, so there is little need to be overly concerned about it becoming "overcrowded". And, you can have multiple libraries, of course.
I mention this because, in your current workflow, only your original files are backed up. Any work you do in iPhoto or via iPhoto - editing, keywording, albums, print objects etc - are not being backed up.
My suggestion would be to simply back up the iPhoto Library Folder and get it all - Original files and everything else.

  • IPhoto Import no working properly

Another issue pertaining to iPhoto import, unrelated to disk space errors.
What I'm see is missing events and pictures. I went to Aperture and selected import -> iPhoto -> keep files in current location.
A3 imported many pictures (probably most), but is still missing a few events (as well as missing pictures within events that actually did make it) and completely botched faces - the previews don't show the face of the person as you hover your mouse over them, as it does in iPhoto.
Is this really supposed to be a pro version of iPhoto? What a disappointment.

I have been fighting this issue. I have issued bug reports to Apple. I have more than 13000 images (a large number of them scanned in from old photos). On import Aperture(3.02) loses some 60 events and nearly 3000 images. Even the iPhoto browser breaks for me. If is scroll down to some event and open it the images are not from the event and from there on the browser is broken -- have to restart Aperture. I rebuilt the iPhoto library (using iPhoto's built in rebuild capability as well a third party application which will rebuild the library. I have looked for bad keyword and found none (I do not use the keyword facility). I tried exporting the photos Aperture missed but Aperture would on occasion not recognize jpeg files in the finder-- it showed the folder to be empty. I would like to switch because it has some features I really like but as it stands it is unusable.

  • Automator iPhoto import

    I am trying to do a very simple iPhoto import, but after the folder is selected and the action for import has been confirmed in terms of folder, I get the following nasty issue;
    Can't get «class utid» of {name:"iPhoto transport", «class ascd»:date "Wednesday, June 14, 2006 22:06:49", «class asmo»:date "Wednesday, June 14, 2006 22:17:30", «class asip»:{0, 0}, size:2.10752E+5, «class asdr»:true, alias:false, «class ispk»:false, visible:true, «class hidx»:false, «class nmxt»:missing value, «class dnam»:"iPhoto transport", «class asda»:alias "Home:System:Library:CoreServices:Finder.app:", «class kind»:"Folder", «class asfw»:{0, 0, 0, 0}, «class asty»:"

«class utid» is the type identifier key of the reply record for StandardAdditions 'info for' command. iPhoto needs this to determine if the file in question meets the action's stated input requirement (Image files of type JPEG, JPEG2, TIFF, or QuickTime). Whoever wrote the action didn't realize that the 'info for' command returns a different reply record for folders. Instead of throwing an "expected" missing value for the type identifier, it simply omits the key entirely.
Anyway what this basically means is that if you intend to pass a folder to the Import Photos action, you'll need to insert Finder's 'Get Folder Contents' action just before it. This will ensure that the actual image files are being tested instead of the folder object itself.

  • Convert Photoshop imports to JPEG

I have imported scanned photos into iPhoto as "Photoshop" images. I wish to convert those imports to JPEG images. What's involved in the conversion process?

You do this when you export - it's in the File -> Export dialogue.

  • Iphoto import creating and importing duplicates/ios8

I'm using iphoto 9.4.3 and my iphone 5s with ios8.  Since septemberish (ios8 update), it's been double-importing all my pix on from my iphone - none are showing up as duplicates on the phone but import/iPhoto view shows and imports them all twice.  All images come in as img_1234 and img_1234_2 for example.
Can't figure out why this is but it's a pain - I'm using third party software to scrub duplicates from the library after the fact but is anyone else having this problem?

I've got this same problem. Didn't see this thread before I posted mine (Re: iPhoto imports 2 of every photo - iPhone 6).
    I've tried:
    Hard restart iPhone
    Updated iPhoto (9.6)
    Updated OSX (10.10)
    Updated iOS (8.1.1)
Nothing has worked; I get two of every photo and video imported into iPhoto.
Has anyone else solved this issue? It's not a huge problem; more like an annoyance.
