IPhoto Importing Nonexistent Photos

Every time I open iPhoto it says it found a photo in the iPhoto library that was not imported. But whenever I hit import, it just creates an album without anything in it. Is there anyway to fix this, or find the files that are causing the problem? Any ideas would be great!

Hey Science Guy
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
quit iPhoto and right click (control click) on the iPhoto library and select show package contents - in the package contents find the folder names import (or importing) and drag it to the desktop - launch iPhoto and you will be fine - open the import(ing) folder on the desktop and verify that there is nothing you want to save in it (if there is import the photos to iPhoto) and then drag the import(ing) folder to the trash
Do not change or move anything else in the iPhoto library

  • Iphoto imported some photos but not all

I was able to import 45 of the 229 (approx.) photos off my SD card yesterday.  I took the photos all on the same day (battery was getting low but managed to fill the card).  When I looked on my camera (Canon) I saw that it showed no photos on the camera and I had not deleted them off the camera's SD card.  at the same time missing photos were in iphoto ("loading, please wait" was the message).  I waited overnight. Still nothing. They are visibly present in my iphoto application but not finishing the load process. I have been receiving (and not paying enough attention to, shame on me, error messages coming up in iphoto saying iphoto needed repairing.  I repaired or followed instructions each time but did not explore further.  Don't know if 2 events are related or not.
What to do?  I have imported over 100k photos and never had a problem at all.  Don't know if it's a bad card, probelm with iphoto or what.  Also imported Java and Adobe reader (updated to use an application I had been running called Snagit).
Think I just got ripped off with freshcrop (MediaRECOVER Mac), apparently a non-reocognized media recovery app (didn't open it, just paid $60).  I've done so many things as of late to my imac (7) running latest OSX version that I'm wondering if it will be difficult to pinpoint what happened.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, my photos are all in iPhoto.  I mentioned other things that I've updated on my computer in case those updates and purchases of new software in any way affected my iphoto.  So in the end the card updated all the photos - in 3 stages total over a period of days and during that time it would not allow me to log out of iphoto so had to do a manual reboot of my system.  The problem was solved but I still don't know the reason for its occurrence or why it corrected itself. The last thing I'll share was that I saw a twirling blue ball (not the usual multi-colored ball that sometimes twirls on the screen when you are waiting for something to go to the next stage.  Sorry for the confusion and thank you for your time.  I hope I never see this again.

  • IPhoto imported/recovered photos error

I am experiencing an error in that each time I open up iPhoto it tells me that i have 67 photos that were not imported during a previous occasion and it asks me whether i wish to import them now. If I click yes, nothing happens. If i click no, it says that the photos will be saved in a Recovered Photos folder in Pictures. The problem is that this Recovered Photos folders appears EVERY time, regardless of whether I click yes or no. And every time I open iPhoto I get exactly the same problem. If i open iPhoto 20 times, i will get 20 versions of the Recovered Photos folder - and none will have any photos in it.
iPhoto Help tells me that this may have occurred if there had been a disruption whilst transferring photos at some stage and suggests moving the offending folder to the desktop then trying to open iPhoto again. I have tried this but NOTHING HELPS!
Please can anyone suggest how to fix this, get around this or how to turn this feature off - it is driving me mad seeing this error message every single time, and having numerous versions of that folder turn up in my Pictures.
    Thanks in advance!

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

  • HT204655 Has iPhoto import to Photos recaptured unnamed faces?

i have used iphoto for several years now and have a carefully categorized 37k image library. i have spent hundreds (HUNDREDS) of hours naming only select family and close friends with (named) faces and also methodically removed face tags for unnamed people (either complete strangers or people i don't want named) so there were absolutely NO unnamed faces in my iphoto library. i upgraded to the new photos app/program and my iphoto library was converted/imported. i'm discovering a very troubling trend: my previously unnamed faces have reappeared. I am sick to my stomach that all these unnamed faces have reappeared. thanks in advance for your help!

No. Photos uses hard links to the photos it imported from iPhoto and does not use up any additional space even though the Finder reports the size the same: Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support.
This describes it in more detail: The (hard) link between Photos and iPhoto

  • Iphoto import deleting photos

I plugged my camera in my computer to import photos. I clicked delete after importing and began. It went through loading all the pictures and was in the final "completing import" stage when my computer locked up i guess. My spinning color wheel kept running and my computer eventually turned off. When I turned it back on my iphoto opened up and it said i had 34 pictures to import from my camera, those of which i didn't allow to import or delete because they had been imported previously. My computer doesn't have the other photos imported on it anymore, are they lost for good? Is there a way to check my camera card, or restore the old photos either on the camera or my computer? Any advice? Thanks so much for any help.
    I have a Powerbook G$ 15" PowerPC G4 (1.1)

Hi Technology impaired, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Whew, I think we should do this first...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
My computer doesn't have the other photos imported on it anymore, are they lost for good?
It may be possible to recover some erased/missing ones, but you must quit using the Computer immediately, because the OS will think it can write to those freed blocks on the disk.
Either boot this one in Target mode...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
And recovering from another Mac, or booting this Mac from another HDD, then using Data Rescue II...
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
(Has a Free Demo to see if it could or not, but you'll need another drive to recover to).
Is there a way to check my camera card, or restore the old photos either on the camera or my computer?
Depending on type of card & format, you might be able to restore the pics on the card using recovery tools on a PC.

  • Problem iPhoto imports triplicates of my iPhone photos

    Hello,
When i want to import my iPhone photos on my mba'2012, iPhoto wants to import 3 times each photo.
Instead of importing 1006 photos, iPhoto imports 3018 photos !! :-/
For example, for a IMG_1500.jpg, iPhoto imports IMG_1550.jpg, IMG_1500_2.jpg and IMG_1500_3.jpg. (same size for each photo)
Everything is fine in the Photos.app in my iPhone, i see the exact number of photos (1006).
    HDR is OFF
    So what the problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    For information:
    iPhone 4S 5.1.1

  • IPhoto 08 - Loosing photos, iPhoto automatically deletes from hard drive!

    Hi,
    I am using iPhoto 08 v 7.1.5 on Max OS X 10.6.4
We are 2 users sharing the same iPhoto library and after ongoing issues with permissions I have moved the iPhoto library (as per Apple's instructions) to a Sparse Disk Image on the Shared folder and changed the permissions for all to rear&write - then copied the library to this Disk Image and pointed all iPhoto libraries there.
Worked well until we started to import photos from a camera. From my profile it imported the photos, but then when copying them to the library come up with an error 'File is corrupt'. I started iPhoto in shift&option mode and repaired permissions. This fixed it and I could import.
The other user imported photos yesterday from their profile. No errors on import and the photos were property loaded into the library. I did check the library AND the files in the Finder - all was well. 2 hours later, ALL FILES HAD GONE!!! There were no trace of the files. Not in the trash (iPhoto or System) - I searched the whole drive, GONE!!!
I am a bit freaked, if iPhoto is going to delete files permanently from the drive its NOT good. The photos were already deleted from the camera so they are gone for good.
Has anyone experienced the same or got an explanation??
    Appreciate any help with this!
    Cheers
    Chris

I've seen this mentioned on here a couple of times. Tracing it with these other users what seems to occur is that iPhoto imports the photos to the database but fails to copy the actual files into the Originals folder.
I'm not sure why this happens.
If you haven't used the camera since you can recover the files from the card with an app like MediaRecover

  • WOW! Am losing my MIND to import a photo!

As a user from Avid, FCP, Vegas, I find it almost insane that I can't import a photo onto the timeline.
I have opened iPhoto, imported the photo and it doesn't show up in iMovie, I have also placed it in a EVENT and it still (After MERGE and closing both APPS) does not show up.
Why can't you just drag and drop photos? ? ?
Anyway, can someone PLEASE tell me where this photo is? It shows up in iPhoto, but not in iPHOTO within iMOVIE and isn't there any other way BESIDES iPhoto to import an image?
    Thanks....
    • DEFINITELY ON THE WISH LIST - DRAG AND DROP PHOTOS & VIDEOS..

Why can't you just drag and drop photos?
I have no problem dragging and dropping photos from either the iPhoto/Aperture browser or the Finder. As for clips, then can either be "imported" via the file menu or drag and dropped directly from the Finder to an Event name in the Event Library list.
Anyway, can someone PLEASE tell me where this photo is?
If you are referring to where photos are stored that have been imported to an iMovie '08 project, then they are stored in the named_Project package as individual frames in an MOV file named "Still Images."
It shows up in iPhoto, but not in iPHOTO within iMOVIE and isn't there any other way BESIDES iPhoto to import an image?
You can also drag compatible photos from the Finder level and drop them directly to the iMovie '08 Project window where they appear as a "still image sequence."

  • I am unable to import new photos in iPhoto 11. Perhaps I should just reinstall from iLife disk? Will it affect my photos in any way?

    Hello,
I have iPhoto 11 installed on my MacBook. I am now unable to import new photos using USB or by plugging the camera directly into the laptop. Never had that probem before with this camera. Perhaps just reinstall iPhoto from the iLife disk?

    Hello Terence,
Okay I will try reformating the camera's card. However all is well when I export photos to my iMac at home or onto my iPad.
If your suggestion does not work should I try reinstalling iPhoto from the iLife disk? If so, how do I go about doing that or is there a website somewhere explaining this?
    Regards,
    Tom

  • I'm not really a computer guy.Just got a Kodak easy share camera. When I  import the photos, they go to the area with my name in a file with the date. How can I move them to iphoto, or even better, import them directly to iphoto??

I'm not really a computer guy. I just got a Kodak"easy share" camera. When I import the photos they go to the section with my name in a folder. How do I get them from there to iphoto, or better yet, how can i import them directly to iphoto?? As stated, I'm not knowledgable, have an imac and need real rudimentary direction.

in the iPhoto preferences be sure the action when camera is connected is open iPhoto
What program are you using to import the photos?
If they are in a folder you can drag that folder onto the iPhoto icon in the dock to import - our launch iPhoto and under the file menu import from that folder
For real rudimentary directions try the iPhoto tutorials - and it would be a worthwhile investment of time to take the iphoto tutorials - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/ - they are very helpful and will save you a lot of time and frustration. for the concepts - actual commands mya have shanged in some cases - and under the iPhoto help menu ==> iPhoto help - watch the videos there

  • Lightroom will not import my photos.   It did up to a week ago.   I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago).   I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto

Lightroom will not import my photos.   It did up to a week ago.   I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago).   I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto.   I get the following error message:
Some import operations were not performed.
The following files were not imported because they could not be read  [followed by a list of the files I wanted to import]
Thumbnails show up.  LR just will not import them.
Any idea what is going wrong?

If the Import button is not clickable, that means that Lightroom thinks you have no new photos to import (one possible reason is that they are duplicates)
So, you need to figure out why Lightroom thinks that. The way I would do this is to search your Library module for at least one of the photos, by file name. To do this, you would follow all 4 of these steps in sequence:
Click on All Photographs in the Catalog Panel on the left of the Library Module
Turn off all Filters (Ctrl-L or Cmd-L once or twice)
Expand all stacks: Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks
Search for one or more of the photos using the Filter Bar (press backslash), search by File Name

  • I imported 100 photos, when I was reading photos iphoto crushed, and when I restarted iphoto all photos imported had disappeared! Is there a way to find them. They were imported, they can not have disappeared from the hard disk?

I imported 100 photos from my camera (Canon) into iphoto. The importation went well, and when I was watching the photos, suddenly iphoto crashed. I restarted iphoto and realized that the photos had disapered. The events are availbble into iphoto but they are empty, the photos have dispeared. I can not believe they disapeared as they have been imported and read once, they must be hidden somewhere on the disk? Is there a way to find where they are?

Assuning you're running iPhoto 9 or later try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

After upgrading to Yosemite (I don't have iPhoto anymore, only PHOTOS) my pictures will not import from my iPad or iPhone 5s or any picture from web, it shows "Database Error: failured to persist version".  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry,
Yes, the error message is exactly like that  ("Database error: failured to persist version")
No photos will import at all.  I use USB to import from iPhone 5s or iPad 2.
About the difference?  iPhoto and Photos .  Are there two softwares?
I also will like to merge and/or synchronize all my photos I had saved to iCloud backups, Macbook Pro,  iPhone 5s and iPad hard drives using iPhoto.  It's call iPhoto library.  At one point I turned off streaming.
