IPhoto importing other databases

Hi,
I'm considering to switch to Apple once they release a G5 type of computer with Intel micros and I imagine there are very high chances that I will end up using iPhoto to organize my pictures.
At the moment I do not have any database to organize them and my pictures are getting out of hand so I thought I would need to get a picture organizer for my current Windows computer but before doing that I would like to check if iPhoto can import any database from another app so that I do not have to redo all keywords when I switch.
I've been looking in the forums and faqs with no luck and Apple does not have an online version of iPhoto's user manual. Could somebody help me with this question?
Thanks,
Alejandro

Alejandro:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. In addition to Sam's comments I'll add that any keywords or comments you might try to add to your photos on your PC will not be carried over to iPhoto. It copies the photos into it's own unique folder system and you have to add the keywords, etc. once it's in iPhoto.
Here are two Apple KB documents that you should be aware of, particularly the second one:
iPhoto Library Description
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

When using export/import between different releases, you need to use the older version of export to create your dump file. In your case, you must use the 8.0.5 export utility to export from your 8.1.7 database. You need a tnsname in your 8.0.5 tnsnames.ora that points to your 8.1.7 database. Then you use SQL Net to connect and do the export. So, instead of doing exp system/manager you would do exp system/manager@tnsname. Just be sure to use the 8.0.5 export, and your import will work fine.

  • Png files are over each other in the iphoto import window

When i connect my iphone to the mac to import photos in iphoto, the png files are over each other in the iphoto import window. Jpegs are also showing up in the iphoto grid with new photos but each box contains 1 photo, which is normal. With png pictures, iphoto puts up to 3 pictures on top of each other in each box.
    Anybody has seen this before?
    Kind regards,
    Jeff Dehaes

oops, sorry, re-installed iphoto and it works again, they weren't even png's just jpegs...
    Problem solved.

  • Disable Other Databases From Importing your Tables

Is there a way to disable other databases from being able to get at your back end tables?
History:  I have posted this same question before, and thought I had it resolved by splitting the databases into a back-end and a front-end, where the back-end has the actual tables and is password protected.  The front end is not password protected,
but uses [fOSUserName()] to determine permissions.  Unfortunately; though I had to use a password to link to the back-end table,
if I create a blank database and import the tables from the front-end, I have full view and modification ability over the protected tables in the back-end without being asked for a password.
Application:  Currently this is an in-house database that is low risk, but I need to share the same data with trusted contractors on a VPN shared Folder, where I don't want them diving into each other's workloads and invoicing.

Not the answer I wanted, but as usual, you are correct.  The two of you (Hans and Bill) have been so valuable in the different positions I have held, and I am only one of
    so many on this site.
    Thank you!

    More about my situation:
Going to SQL would mean moving to the actual IT supported tool, but it seems the larger the company, the less the IT department is willing to customize applications to maximize efficiency, even when my department is dealing with 50 million in yearly expenses
for a single region.  With Microsoft Access, management and front line employees get a dashboard view that allows for maximizing the resources we have.  Without Microsoft Access, we would have been stuck running data pulls that seem to create tunnel
vision.  I agree that a SQL server may be the way to go, but not necessarily practical for departments situation.  Because of this, I will back down from security, keep the database fully available to in-house staff, and export Excel reports to individual
contractor drives (with data only applicable to each individual contractor).

  • How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.

How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.  I watched it upload about 400 photos, one by one.  They're somewhere, but they don't appear in the iPhoto library. As iPhoto was deleting them from my camera, it got hung up, then a message came "you should eject before disconnecting a device."  I hadn't touched the camera.  The message came by itself.  I couldn't get iPhoto to respond, so I disconnected the camera and did a Force Quit.  Opening it back up, the pictures were gone.  Can somebody help me?

What version of iPhoto are you running?  Assuming it's iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • After initial iphoto import, how do I add (or sync) new events that were...

    put into iphoto.
It seems that after you import the iphoto library that is like a snapshot in time of what your iphoto library looked like. Well, I import to iphoto from my camera and Aperture doesn't seem to reflect these new events that were created. Am I missing something here?

But your comment about writing a novel in Text and Word together is a little off, no offense. The fact remains you can make changes to a file in both apps and the mods will be persisted. The file is the data and app allows the user to interact with the data.
My comment about Word and TextEdit was an analogy, and they are not perfect. But this is not true:
The fact remains you can make changes to a file in both apps and the mods will be persisted. The file is the data and app allows the user to interact with the data.
No, you cannot actually make changes to any file in either app. You can process the photos and save the changes as a Modified Version (in iPhoto) in the database (in Aperture) but in neither app do you change the original file. Further, If you do this in iPhoto then Aperture is unaware of these changes, and vice versa, unless you import the modified versions to the other app. The relationship between them is not dynamic, nor designed to be.
When using iPhoto I would rsync my Originals off to another drive periodically. After some exploration, I noticed Aperture has a file structure called Masters. It is different for iPhoto in that it looks like Masters/<year>/<month>/<day/<yearMonthDay-time>/*.jpeg.
My question is there any way to change this a more iphoto way like Originals/<year>/<importDate>/*.jpeg?
This question turns up almost daily in some form on the forum So have a search around abot Referenced Masters, or check out the Manual.
In brief, no you cannot change the structure of the internals of the Aperture Library. However, you don't have to store the files there. You can reference your Masters from anywhere you want, sorted in any folder structure you prefer.
Can I apply changes in a destructive way? Sometimes I don't care about preserving the original.
No. Like iPhoto, that's simply impossible to do. Aperture is designed to work in exactly the opposite way.

    TD

  • Why is my iphoto  rebuilding library database

I went into my iphoto and it wanted me to rebuild my library database, so pushed ok because i thought it might help with my photos. Now i cant close it and cant shut down my computer can you please help me. Its just thinking all the time.
Please help. Thanks i dont want to lose my photos.

Your iPhoto library is not duplicating anything. Give virtually no information the only guess is that you imported an old iPhoto library into a new one.  NEVER import one photo library into another one. If you did and still have the old library you can easily recover. Drag the library you messed up to the desktop and drag the old library to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto

    Hi,
it is not astonishing that the error occurs every time you try this create table statement.
A table with this name already exists. And error -955 tells us exactly this.
    What to do?
As I do not know if there is data in this table and/or if there are views / other database objects
using this table, I cannot decide, if dropping this table would be a good idea.
But what I do not understand is, why during one (?) loading in a clean (?) database this
table is tried to create more than once. Or was the database you are loading into not clean,
fresh and empty? Then it will happen that not only this table, but some others will result in an error
    because they exist already.

  • I made a photo book in iPhoto and would like to transfer the book to my iPhoto on other macs and iPad.   How is this done and can it be synced between devices like photo stream.

I made a photo book in iPhoto and would like to transfer the book to my iPhoto on other macs and iPad.   How is this done and can it be synced between devices like photo stream?

You can create a Quicktime movie slideshow of the book's pages and share that. Here's how to get your book into an iPhoto slideshow and then export as a Quicktime video:
1 - While viewing the book type Command+P to start the print process.
2  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
Note:  If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
3 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
4 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. Immediately select all of the photos in the new album and sequentially renumber them as "Page  " using the Batch Change ➙ Title to Text with the option to add a sequential number to each title.  This is to let you put the pages back in the correct order in the event they get sorted incorrectly.
Now you can proceed as follows: create the slideshow in iPhoto and export it out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large (480p with iPhoto 9),

  • Importing the Database from 10.2.0.4 to 11.1.0.7 w/o system Tablespaces.

    Hi DBAs,
I need to import a database from 10.2.0.4 (RHEL 5.1) to 11.1.0.7 (RHEL 5.1). At source database there are 3 schemas with many defined roles for which I am interested in. I tried to do exp/imp at schema level but there were many defined roles and permissions which were giving IMP as well ORA error. If I do the Full database exp/imp , it is also importing the system/sysaux TS as well DBSNMP etc schemas which I dont want.
Please advise in above scenario, how should I import these schemas to the target which is running Oracle 11g.
    Thanks
    -Samar-

    You can do this also
    1. Export 3 schemas with grants=y rows=N and import the data schema structure with grants
2.Check the log file for missing roles and create those roles using from dba_role_privs..etc
    3. Import the data ignore=y option
    Hope this helps

    1. What change do I need to make while importing since database version in source and target are different? You don't have to do anything. You are exporting metadata that will be recreated in your new database and new version. Just run the import command.
    2. Do I need to change any thing in my import command?I don't think you need to change anything. You an add parallel if you want, but the import parallel does not have to match the export parallel, so keeping it as you have it will be fine.

  • Iphoto import creating and importing duplicates/ios8

I'm using iphoto 9.4.3 and my iphone 5s with ios8.  Since septemberish (ios8 update), it's been double-importing all my pix on from my iphone - none are showing up as duplicates on the phone but import/iPhoto view shows and imports them all twice.  All images come in as img_1234 and img_1234_2 for example.
Can't figure out why this is but it's a pain - I'm using third party software to scrub duplicates from the library after the fact but is anyone else having this problem?

I've got this same problem. Didn't see this thread before I posted mine (Re: iPhoto imports 2 of every photo - iPhone 6).
    I've tried:
    Hard restart iPhone
    Updated iPhoto (9.6)
    Updated OSX (10.10)
    Updated iOS (8.1.1)
Nothing has worked; I get two of every photo and video imported into iPhoto.
Has anyone else solved this issue? It's not a huge problem; more like an annoyance.
