IPhoto Importing Problem

When I tried to import a video on Iphoto (Which I've done many times)
It is saying:
iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image.
And I emptied the trash on my dock, and in Iphoto.
Any Help?

What system and iPhoto versions are your using?  How are you trying to upload the video from the camera?  Have you tried using Image Capture to upload to the Desktop and then into iPhoto.
If you're able to do that reformat the memory card in the camera, take another videos and try again the way to did originally.

  • IPhoto Import Problem, MacBook Air

iPhoto on my new MacBook Air (Mountain Lion) won't import all photos from my Nokia N Series mobile phone via USB cable; it sees some but not all photos, other times says the jpeg format is not a recognizable format. Can anyone help? I've never had this problem on my MacBook Pro before.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Solved my iPhoto import problems!

I have a large iPhoto database of about 35,000 photos, taking up about 160gb. I imported the iPhoto database into Aperture 3 and suddenly only had 8000 photos....Hmmm!
I tried leaving them in the iPhoto library and tried moving them to the A3 library and no matter what I did - I always ended up with about 8k photos. I never had any crashes, just never had a accurate A3 library.
After reading through a lot of threads, I realized I'm not the only one having issues while importing from iPhoto. I finally decided to backup my iPhoto library and then let iPhoto rebuild the library database (which took about 4 hours). After rebuilding the iPhoto library... iPhoto seems much snappier and much quicker than before.
I'm now reimporting my new iPhoto library into A3 and it IS SEEING all 35k photos. Also, I can tell this is going to take a while and it's going to need to run overnight... We'll see what happens in the morning, but it looks like all 35k photos are finally going to make into the A3 library. Hope this helps someone...

I have been getting the same problem. I have fewer photos, so rebuilding my iPhoto library didn't take too long. I tried re-importing the iPhoto library into a new AP3 library, but to no avail. I'm still only getting 17% of my library imported, and the faces and places tags are still screwed up.
Please let me know if this worked for you.

  • IPhoto import problems from Canon EOS 300D.

iPhoto recognises the camera, says it is 'loading' but just hangs there. Tried all trouble shooting tips. My pocket Canon IXUS camera works fine (iMac running Yosemite latest version of iPhoto).

Hi Keith, I had the same problem with my Canon 300D on iPhoto/iMac/Yosemite. What worked for me was changing the setting on my camera, menu-tools2, communication: normal -> PTP. This was a trick I found on a MS Windows forum (win7/win8 support). Hope this works for you as well! (you might need to wait a bit if you have a lot of pictures, the flashing red led will promise success )
    Cheers, AR

  • Fcpx and iphoto importing problem

Just bought fcpx.  All of my media is on my macbook (on iPhoto: i don't have iMovie).  fcpx is not allowing me to import my media from iPhoto.  what to do?

It's probably in a format not used by FCP. Can't tell from this information. Best to get your video out of the iPhoto library before you import it. Do not use iPhoto for video with pro apps.

  • IPhoto import problem

When I try to import my iphoto library it only imports 1600 photos out of over 6000, Ive tried it a few times and always same result
    Anyone any clue?
    Cheers

Aperture 3.0.2 does not solve this for me.
Out of 59 iPhoto events containing 1,437 images/videos altogether (mostly JPEGs), 21 partial events containing 216 images/videos get imported.
I've tried "Import iPhoto Library" into the Aperture library and as references, with "Do not import duplicates" checked and unchecked, all with the same result.
I've tried importing individual events and all of the events at the same time using the iPhoto browser. In both cases, I was told "Import Items Completed with Errors" and only a few hundred files were imported.
I've tried to rebuild the iPhoto library with "Examine and repair iPhoto Library file permissions", "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" and "Reclaim unused disk space from databases" checked.
I checked the Console for Aperture error messages, and found:

  • Iphoto Import problems

    Hi guys,
Ive had my panasonic camcorder for sometime now and i am never able to get the videos off the camera unless i go into imovie and import them through there which will not work for this small project as i need each clip individually. When i plug in my camera this comes up
No video or anything. Also there is no way i can drag the clips off the file cause the file is no where to be found on it. But when open it with imovie it finds it and looks like this
I need to be able to import it as different clips cause there is going to be around 200-300 clips.
Is there another way to import it? or am i doing something wrong?

Look at the file extension? Read the camcorder manual? Check teh CamCorder menues to see if format is selectable? look at the movie info in iMovie? in the finder? in QuickTime?

  • Problem iPhoto imports triplicates of my iPhone photos

    Hello,
When i want to import my iPhone photos on my mba'2012, iPhoto wants to import 3 times each photo.
Instead of importing 1006 photos, iPhoto imports 3018 photos !! :-/
For example, for a IMG_1500.jpg, iPhoto imports IMG_1550.jpg, IMG_1500_2.jpg and IMG_1500_3.jpg. (same size for each photo)
Everything is fine in the Photos.app in my iPhone, i see the exact number of photos (1006).
    HDR is OFF
    So what the problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    For information:
    iPhone 4S 5.1.1
    MBA 2012
    iPhoto 9.3.2
    OS X Mountain Lion
(On OS X Lion, i have the same issue)

    First, thanks to help me.
For your question, here a screenshot of Image Capture:
    Always the same problem...
This means that there a problem with my iPhone ?

  • IPhoto 9.1.5 import problems

I import from my Sony camera, everything imports fine.  The pictures show up in the "last import", I can double click a picture and see it.  When I go to the events I see the event thumbnail I just imported, I can scroll through the thumbnails.  When I double click the event iPhoto says there are no photos.  When I restart iPhoto the event is gone and so are the pictures.
I go into the database and I can actually find the pictures.  They are just not showing up in iPhoto after the import.  I have done this several times.
I have tried to rebuild the library and none of the imported pictures show up and the import problem persists.
    Any suggestions ?
    Mike

DId you rebuild with  iPhoto Library Manager
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.

How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.  I watched it upload about 400 photos, one by one.  They're somewhere, but they don't appear in the iPhoto library. As iPhoto was deleting them from my camera, it got hung up, then a message came "you should eject before disconnecting a device."  I hadn't touched the camera.  The message came by itself.  I couldn't get iPhoto to respond, so I disconnected the camera and did a Force Quit.  Opening it back up, the pictures were gone.  Can somebody help me?

What version of iPhoto are you running?  Assuming it's iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive but many are not showing up in Aperture.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • Iphoto import creating and importing duplicates/ios8

I'm using iphoto 9.4.3 and my iphone 5s with ios8.  Since septemberish (ios8 update), it's been double-importing all my pix on from my iphone - none are showing up as duplicates on the phone but import/iPhoto view shows and imports them all twice.  All images come in as img_1234 and img_1234_2 for example.
Can't figure out why this is but it's a pain - I'm using third party software to scrub duplicates from the library after the fact but is anyone else having this problem?

I've got this same problem. Didn't see this thread before I posted mine (Re: iPhoto imports 2 of every photo - iPhone 6).
    I've tried:
    Hard restart iPhone
    Updated iPhoto (9.6)
    Updated OSX (10.10)
    Updated iOS (8.1.1)
Nothing has worked; I get two of every photo and video imported into iPhoto.
Has anyone else solved this issue? It's not a huge problem; more like an annoyance.

  • IPhoto import Browser failure, after security update?

Hi, Anyone else had this problem?
    iPhoto import Browser failure.
No Events or Albums show, although PhotoBooth is visible, error message 'Open iPhoto 5 or later to see photos...'
This used to work, but not since installing Security Update 2010-006 (1.0),
    with "iTunes" (10.0.1) and JavaForMacOSX10.6Update3.
    Using iPhoto '09 (8.1.2), iMovie '09 (8.0.6).
Heard mention that now only alpha-numeric characters are allowed for file names and titles, so started replacing "&", apostrophes, etc. But there are a LOT of photos to change!
    Console shows:
    [0x0-0x15015].com.apple.iPhoto[264]
    MRMovieServer[273] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure
Tried repairing permissions, but got a warning about a SUID file has been modified and will not be repaired, (not sure if this is relevant).
Removed com.apple.iApps.plist and com.apple.iMovie8.plist, which then gave a slightly different view of the browser in iMovie.
Can no longer drag items from iPhoto either!
Any ideas of how to proceed (and remain sane)?

    Hi,
I've had something like this, since October.
Firstly, In the Utilities folder, open Disk Utility, select the disk where the Applications are (Main hard disk) click First Aid, then "Repair Permissions". Leave it running with nothing else open.
When finished, open iMovie, click the photo browser icon, any luck?
Seen an Apple support doc 'Cannot see iPhoto in other Apps', basically you may be right about ampersands & apostrophes.
In iPhoto, look at all your smart album names for non-alpha-numeric characters, and replace or delete the possible culprits. I had lots of these, including brackets (which were not a problem until recently). Keep checking your smart albums to find others, such as these: !@£$%^&()[]{}'\"|~.
Quit iPhoto and all other iLife Apps, then in your home folder, Library, Preferences, move 'com.apple.iApps.plist' to the desktop (this will be recreated when you next open an iApp/iLife application, such as iPhoto).
You may need to remake the iPhoto AlbumData.xml file, after all that name editing. See later.
Open iMovie and click the photo browser icon, if you still get the message, rather than Albums and Events, Quit iMovie.
Open iPhoto, double check your source list for folders which you may have smart albums in, (click the triangle to the left of any folders that you've made to reveal their contents). Repeat the search and replace of special characters. I'd missed a few, hiding in folders.
Now would be a good time to remake the iPhoto 'AlbumData.xml' file.
Quit all applications, go to your Pictures folder, iPhoto Library, ctrl-click, 'Show package contents', drag 'AlbumData.xml' to the desktop.
    Close the finder windows.
Open iPhoto, create a new album, then Quit, (this should remake the xml file).
Open iMovie again and click the photo browser icon. This is the point where I had success, I hope it works for you as well.
    All the best, Ian

  • Png files are over each other in the iphoto import window

When i connect my iphone to the mac to import photos in iphoto, the png files are over each other in the iphoto import window. Jpegs are also showing up in the iphoto grid with new photos but each box contains 1 photo, which is normal. With png pictures, iphoto puts up to 3 pictures on top of each other in each box.
    Anybody has seen this before?
    Kind regards,
    Jeff Dehaes

oops, sorry, re-installed iphoto and it works again, they weren't even png's just jpegs...
    Problem solved.
