IPhoto "importing" spurious non existing photos

iPhoto constantly tries to "import" 2 non existing photos every time it opens.
I tried import as an answer to the - do you wish to import? question as well as No in answer to the annoying start-up question, but all to no avail.
How do I stop this annoying start-up?
Please assist if you know the cause..

Quit iPhoto and to to the iPhoto library (by default in your pictures folder) - right click (control click) on it and select show package contents - find the folder named import (on importing) and drag it to the desktop - DO NOT MAKE ANY OTHER CHANGES - launch iPhoto and you will be fine.
Open the import(ing) folder and if there is nothing in it that you need move it to the trash and empty the trash

  • IPhoto repeatedly tries to import non-existing photos

I recently deleted 100 photos from iphoto. Now whenever I open iPhoto a box pops up that says "2 photos have been found in the iPhoto library that have not been imported. Would you like to import them?" Whether I click yes or no, a second box will pop up saying that the photos have been placed in a recovery file. This process happens 2 times every time I open iPhoto. The empty "recovery" files continue to build each time this happens. How do i make iPhoto stop asking me about these 2 non-existent photos, and how do I make it stop creating recovery files?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • Iphoto has crashed and will not open.  Can I reinstall Iphoto without loosing my existing photos?

Iphoto crashed and will not start.  How do I save my existing photos and videos and reinstall Iphoto?

reinstalling will not cure this - you need to rebuild your library- Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
And the ONLY way to "save" your photos and videos - and every other file on your computer - is to always have a good current backup - sooner or later your disk will fail and with no backup you will lose everything

  • How does iPhoto import pictures from iPhone photo stream?

Sorry for so basic a question, but I thought I understood how this was working (in iOS 7 and this version of iPhoto 9.6)  But now, in Yosemite, and iOS 8, I am not sure what is occurring.
My intent is to take pictures on the phone, and when I cable-sync with my iMac, I want to d/l and keep all of the new photos permanently in iPhoto.  I have then gone to Image Capture, brought down a 2nd backup copy, and deleted them off the phone.  This would leave me with an empty Camera Roll, but with 1,000 recent photos available on my phone, via the Photo Stream.
I've used iPhoto for years, and have a large number of pictures there.  Recently, with the advent of the Photo Stream, I'm automatically getting Events added (and added to) like November Photo Stream in iPhoto, which has worked fine.
However, the last few times in iPhoto, I'm getting random photos showing up as unsynced... ones which should have been brought in previously.  And today when I went to clear the photos off the phone in Image Capture it told me I had 2,400 pictures.
If someone could give me (or point me to) a primer on how this is now supposed to behave, I'd appreciate it.  I'm afraid that Apple is structuring all of this toward iCloud-photo storage when they release Photos, and that will not work for me.  I need to keep my pictures locally, although the Stream has been handy.  I need to be sure I'm doing this in a reasonable way... the method I'm using doesn't seem to be working very well.  Thanks again, for all advice.

If you go to the Photo App, then select photo stream, you can delete any of them by selecting the edit button and tapping on them. A delete button or trash can should appear. Excuse me for being a little vague...ive been on iOS 7 for a while now...

  • LR3 imports into non-existent directory

I try to import into a certain directory, ...2010/March/Spain. Starting a week after installing the product LR would create a directory ...2010/March/Spain/Justin and place the photos there. I would remove the photos from LR and delete the Justin subdirectory. Try the import again; LR creates ..2010/March/Spain/Justin and places the photos there. Even after the directory is deleted and the PC rebooted, LR continues to show the subdirectory LR as present although the directory has been deleted.
There are directories named Justin, such as .../2010/April/Justin and .../2010/May/Justin. But LR creates one on its own.
The image below shows the problem. In the image of the folder next to Justin (on the To side of the import dialog) there is a plus sign on the folder.
Anyone have any idea why LR3 continues to create and show ../2010/March/Spain/Justin, even when it doesn't exist, on the To side of the import dialog?
    Thanks.

That's because you have "Into sub folder" and a subfolder name of Justin.
Uncheck the box and it will not create a sub-folder named Justin.

  • Non-existant photo links?

    Hi all
I have an N96 (firmware version 12.043) and I have a weird problem with it. When I go into the photo gallery, I have loads of boken links to photos that don't actually exist on the phone (they were on the memory card previously, but I have since deleted them) that I want to delete. When I try to delete them I get the error "General: System Error".
This problem started when I got back from a holiday in the US (I'm in the UK) last week.

This is very late, but I had the same issue so I'll respond here. The issue is that the phone's index of photos is corrupted. It's found in /private/101ffc31 as glxmdstn, I think, or maybe it was another folder. It thinks the files are there, but they're not. (Usually, managing the phone's contents in PC Suite or Media Transfer mode does this. I've had all sorts of issues with phantom files this way.) So if you delete that, by connecting the phone in mass storage mode and showing hidden folders in Windows, it'll rebuild the index based on the actual contents and it'll be fine.
You run into a problem if this happens with any files that were stored on C:/. The corresponding Private folder is also in C:/ and unlike the one in the memory card there's no way to access it. You have to back up your phone, do a complete blanking and reset, and then reload the backup.
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.

  • IPhoto imported and deleted my photos today.

That's it.  I see others seem to be having a similar problem.

    Same question - same answer
have charged batteries, try rebuilding and never have iPhoto erase your photos - if necessary use media recover to try to recover the photos on the memory card

  • 2.8GB of Non-Existant Photos???

Recently I've been getting notifications that my iPhone storage would soon be full, so naturally, I log into my computer to backup and delete some files to create more space. But I've realized that my phone and iTunes are saying I have 2.8GB of photos left on my phone, even after deleting all the photos that were currently in my phones library. iCloud and Photo Stream are both off and resetting my phone hasn't worked. I'm really frustrated and have been trying to fix this on my own for at least an hour and I've given up. Please help!

Do a backup, restore, and re-load the backup.  That may correct it, but I've heard from users where it doesn't, in which case you may have to restore and start from scratch.  Something peculiar seems to be going on with this issue, it is becoming more common lately.

  • None existent photos taking up space

I have deleted every single photo and video from my iPhone 6 even the recently deleted. But in usage it says photos still take up 3 gigabytes. How do I clear up that space? I don't see what I can do. There are no photos or videos on the phone

  • Non-existent photos taking up 2.7 GB storage space -- help please!

My iPad 3 says, under Settings\General\Usage\Storage, that I have 2.7 GB in "Photos & Camera", and specifically 2.7 GB under "Camera Roll."  I have deleted *everything* from Camera Roll manually -- there is nothing there.  Yet it still is taking up 2.7 GB of storage and preventing me from installing apps.
I tried syncing it with iTunes on the computer and telling it to remove all photos; didn't work.  I tried swiping to the right on "Camera Roll" in the Settings, which gives me the option to "Delete" -- which I click, and it does nothing (except freeze that icon so I can't swipe it anymore until I close or open settings -- let it sit for 2 hours once and it did nothing else). I've done everything but reset it to factory defaults.
I am not sure what caused it, but when I first got the iPad, I did tell it to sync a bunch of photos during initial setup.  I then realized how much room they were taking up and promptly removed them (I don't remember if I did it manually or by a re-sync).  But they are long gone, and the 2.7GB storage remains...
Can anyone help, please?  Thank you!

Restore.  Note that it's not quick.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

  • Non-existent photos take up lots of space

    I have a 16GB iPad 3.
iTunes on my Mac shows that 2.9GB of space on this iPad is taken up by "Photos".
I've two photos on this iPad - one is a screenshot of a webpage, the other the only photo I've ever taken with the iPad's camera.
I'm syncing no photos to the iPad.
So how on earth can this consume 2.9GB of space?

  • Iphoto import creating and importing duplicates/ios8

I'm using iphoto 9.4.3 and my iphone 5s with ios8.  Since septemberish (ios8 update), it's been double-importing all my pix on from my iphone - none are showing up as duplicates on the phone but import/iPhoto view shows and imports them all twice.  All images come in as img_1234 and img_1234_2 for example.
Can't figure out why this is but it's a pain - I'm using third party software to scrub duplicates from the library after the fact but is anyone else having this problem?

I've got this same problem. Didn't see this thread before I posted mine (Re: iPhoto imports 2 of every photo - iPhone 6).
    I've tried:
    Hard restart iPhone
    Updated iPhoto (9.6)
    Updated OSX (10.10)
    Updated iOS (8.1.1)
Nothing has worked; I get two of every photo and video imported into iPhoto.
Has anyone else solved this issue? It's not a huge problem; more like an annoyance.

  • Aperture iPhoto Import

I imported my iPhoto library into a trial version of Aperture (Aperture will manage the directory).  iPhoto manages the photos by putting them in by year in the "Masters" directory, then by event name.  I noticed that the Aperture iPhoto import placed all my photos into 2011 directory instead of the same file structure in iPhoto.  Is there a way to get Aperture to manage my imported photos and place the photos in a file stucture by year?
I do not intend to monkey around with the iphoto or aperture library's, but I do want the photos stored in a fasion that I could move on to some other program if needed in the future.
    Thanks Gary

None taken, I am just one of those that want to know how Aperture is handling my photos.  My search in the manual and in this forum did not help entirely, until now. You are right it does not matter how Aperture handles the bundle as long as you want to continue to use Aperture.  I thought it was strange that iPhoto handles it one way and Aperture handles it another. I like the way iPhoto places my photos in by year.  It appears that Aperture will also do this but only for my pictures this day forward.  My concern is for the future, and for something that may never happen, but I plan for it anyway.  If I decide to make another change in the future, I would want to make sure at least the pictures are structured by year.  I should be able to go into the Aperture bundle and copy the masters out if needed.  I was hoping I could get the imported photos structure by year.  I do like Aperture so far and will more than likely make the purchase.

  • IPhoto import ignores titles, descriptions

Years ago, I had limited harddrive space, so I used iPhoto to export old photos to photo CDs. When I insert said CDs, iPhoto opens them without a hitch, including all the titles and descriptions that I had arduously spent time filling out long ago.
Now that I have greater harddrive space, I'd like to have all these exported photos back on my harddrive, all in one place. So I tell iPhoto to import the photos from the photo CDs. To my dismay, the imported photos have the filenames (e.g. "IMG_1079") as their titles, and the descriptions are empty. iPhoto does not recognize its own title/description signature in the photo CDs it exported!
Anyone know of a way I could make iPhoto import the thousands of photos I have stored away WITH the titles and descriptions that I spent so much time writing?
    Thanks!
    Phil

Okay thanks for the tip, I think I might be one small step closer.
I copied the "iPhoto Library" folder off the disk, and double clicked the "Library6.iPhoto" file (so it must have been created by iPhoto 6). iPhoto '09 proceeded to convert the library to the '09 format, and the photos in this newly transformed library retain their titles and descriptions. Yay!
But now I need to figure out a way to merge this library into my main library. I tried importing this library into my main one, but it resulted in the same problem of ignoring the titles and descriptions. Drag-and-dropping the newly created library into the main library brings the same result.

  • Why doesn't iPhoto import black

My iPhoto imports black and white photos, or line drawings saved as .jpg, in black out form, i.e., no image.  How can I change this.

I'm guessing at what you're asking here. iPhoto supports RGB colour profiles. If whatever you're importing has a greyscale or CYMK one, it won't come in properly. Cameras shot in RGB.
