IPhoto insists on launching Quicktime 7 (not X) under Snow Leopard

Just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and the only odd behavior so far is that when opening a .mov stored in iPhoto (7.1.5), it always launches Quicktime 7 as the viewer.
If I open the same .mov file from the Finder, it opens with Quicktime X.
Wondering if this is an annoying bug or user error on my part.

I'm having the same problem-Quicktime X is the default player if I double click a movie file in a Finder window, but double clicking a video file in iphoto brings up Quicktime 7-annoying because the one-click export to MobileMe gallery from QuicktimeX is genuinely useful for me. A friend's Snow Leopard upgrade is worse though: if Quicktime7 is not installed then double-clicking a video in iPhoto produces no result at all-I assume iphoto is looking for the old Quicktime player and if it's not there it can't play the video. I've tried trashing the .plist file mentioned above with no success...perhaps there's another file where iphoto can be told where to look for QuicktimeX?

Can't open videos with QT 7 on Snow Leopard. Also iphoto is not able to read jpg..

What type of video files are you trying to open on QT 7?  Have you tried QT 10?  If not, why not?
iPhoto problems should posted in the iPhoto forums.  It's where the iPhoto users hang out at.

  • Juniper networks VPN: Network Connect will not install under Snow Leopard

Created different thread based on the topics from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2130935.
With new install of Snow Leopard i get the following when trying to log into SSL VPN "Could not launch. Please restart the web browser and try again"
can not do the workarounds from the above thread since none of the directories exist. Has anyone found a fix for this?

I ran into this too (made matters worse by cleaning out the old juniper install). What I understand clearly now, which other discussions with all the happiness from people saying they fixed it seem to miss completely: Juniper only works if you installed it prior to upgrading 10.6. If you did not, you are possibly hosed.
Now, I was hosed, but I found a workaround. Find a stand-alone installer .dmg out there. As of a couple days ago it was there. I'm sure it still is. Google it. NetworkConnect.dmg.
It is version 6.0.0. It installs correctly. My company runs 6.4.0, which means the first time you open NetworkConnect after installing it prompts you to upgrade. The upgrade worked fine, so long as I was running as root.
Which brings me to my original problem which I've not seen anyone else complain about, which has me worried: after installing, NC only actually connects and functions when I run as root. I'm not talking about su - root or using sudo, I mean having to graphically switch users and log into the computer as the root user (after enabling it...using the scenableroot I think, something like that).
Has anyone else seen this behavior? I can launch Network Connect as my real user but it immediately fails with a software error. 'ncproxyd.error: Failed to gain root privileges'. Driving me batty.

  • IWorks '08 apps not working under Snow Leopard 10.6.1

Recently installed Snow Leopard and applied updates. Used Pages and Numbers recently and find they don't work. Old files can open ok and all text is visible, however, I am unable to do anything from the menu bar. For example, from the "Insert menu", I can't insert the time and date, shapes, text boxes, and ultimately, I can't quit from the menu bar. The file name just stays a highlighted blue color. However, keyboard commands work where applicable. This situation is for Pages and Numbers (all updated to latest versions). Keynote I haven't tried.
This problem also exists for iPhoto and iTunes, although command-q for iTunes didn't work just now. Can't find any forums anywhere talking about this problem. But now, my apps are virtually useless as most actions don't have keyboard commands. Hopefully it's a simple problem.
    Thanks for your help.
    Derek

    HI Derek,
Download and install the 10.6.1 combo update available here. (It's ok to do this even though you are running 10.6.1 already). As with any installation, make sure your important files are backed up first.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL930
    Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Brother MFC 9700 and Canon i960 will not print under Snow Leopard

After checking the compatibility documentation which indicated that the above printers had drivers which would work w/Snow Leopard, I upgraded to10.6. Now neither printer will work i.e. the document goes into the print queue but won't print. I've unplugged/disconnected the printers and re-installed the drivers from the respective manufacturers web pages. I've checked the forum and couldn't find any info. I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Hello Scott.
I suggest you try resetting the printing system, if you haven't done so already.
*How to Reset the Printing System*
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
    4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
    5. Restart your Mac
This will remove your printer queues but not your printers drivers. So you will need to add your printer queues again.

  • Interface Midi Motu Fastlane USB not functioning under Snow Leopard?

    Hi all
I have 3 external midi instruments I want to set up with logic separately.
As my MOTU 828MK3 audio interface, (which is connected via a Firewire cable), only has one midi port and I don’t want to use the MIDI through option (‘cos I want to have the 16 channels of each instrument simultaneously available), I purchased a Motu Fastlane Midi 2 in, 2 out, USB interface.
The thing doesn’t work – the Fastlane gadget does not send or receive any Midi signal, although recognised by the Midi Setup on Core Midi. And the thing should be only plug & play.
At first I thought it could be some drivers’ problem, but if the Motu 828 MK3 works, Fastlane USB should function as well, I think.
I tried to update the drivers from the Motu site, but Snow Leopard did not allow it.
    Does anyone have a clue?
    Thank you

Wow, I'm not crazy after all. I recently purchased Logic Express 9 and have not been able to get my external MIDI gear working. I too have a Fastlane. I too updated the driver that Motu says works with Snow Leopard. And I too can't get it working. However, the input works. I am able to record MIDI data to an external track and to a soft synth track. The soft synth track plays back fine but I cannot, for the life of me, get it to trigger my external synths. The external track has MIDI data in it but it will not play. I do think it is a driver problem. Also I do not see the green port lights blinking indicating MIDI data is not being received by the Fastlane. Here's my question. What is a good MIDI interface that will work with this OS and LE9? How about the MOTU Micro Light 5x5? I'm afraid to make the purchase. Is all of MOTU's interfaces having this problem?

  • Epson Perfection 2480 Scanner... not found under Snow Leopard

Snow Leopard won't find my scanner! It's there in Printer Sharing (why? who knows? it's not a printer) but if I click on it there's "no scanner found" Image Capture can't find a scanner attached. Epson's scanner software hangs. Any ideas? Nothing has changed except the install of Snow Leopard.

Thanks. I reinstalled it (again) and it worked - third time lucky, I guess. Not sure why it didn't work after the other reinstalls. I suspect that there are various drivers on the Epson site, and I may have downloaded the wrong one(s) previously.
The Epson Scan software works again and Image Capture now finds the scanner -- although if I use one I can't use the other.

  • Canon Printer CLC 3200 not working under Snow Leopard

After installing Snow Leopard printing on Canon CLC 3200 is no longer possible.
Even after updating to 10.6.1, reinstalling the printer and checking all TCP/IP settings, printing is still not possible. The contact to the printer is there, but the printer is stopped and cannot be activated.
Apple Support has no solution for it. You have to wait for an updated printer driver from Canon.
If you are working with Canon CLC3200 don't update your Mac to Snow Leopard!!!
    Best, Andrea

Here is a solution working for the Canon CLC 3200:
Chose LPD protocol and enter "print" for the queue name.
Worked for us – hope it does for you, too!

  • Slide show not working under Snow Leopard

Keynote 4.0.4 under OS X 10.6.1 on an early 2009 Mac Mini can't run slideshow. The console gives this error:
9/21/09 11:19:01 AM Keynote[9821] Caught exception NSInvalidArgumentException in fullscreen setup (* -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value (key: NSFont))
This also happens for keynote/preferences/presenter display/Edit Presenter Layout...
It does not matter what keynote presentation I run--I can even create a new one. Slideshow always dies the same way.
Oddly enough, my 2008 MBP with Keynote 4.0.3 runs slideshow just fine.
    Any ideas what to do?

I have had the same issue. I had a bunch of networks that were familiar to me. Ever since I left my original network, there has been a huge issue with connecting to the Airport.
When I try to connect, I get an exclamation point over the wireless logo. When I click it, it says: "Alert: No Internet Connection". When in Network settings, it says "Self-assigned IP" or "No assigned IP" (I forget).
I then go through the Network Diagnostics. Sometimes it says I have Airport Settings, sometimes it says it has failed. Sometimes I have Network Settings, sometimes that has failed. Needless to say, the last two, Internet and Server are always failed.
I restarted both the Airport and my computer, in itself. Nothing seemed to work.
But after only 5 or six tries in the Diagnostics, the colors started changing over and over again until it turned green. It seemed to have fixed itself within a half hour of just going back and forth on the Diagnostic wizard.
I now have Wireless again with my router that has always worked before with other devices. It was bizarre however when I plugged in my Ethernet, that the wireless said it had internet. Or at least until I unplugged the Ethernet again.
Either way, an update is desperately needed... it just seems buggy.

  • Airport not configured under snow leopard

whenever I select my wireless connection in the menu bar, it states the following 'airport: not configured'... i tried to re enable it within network preferences, but I couldn't. what should i do?

That wasn't my issue at all. what had happened was that somehow or another, the service 'Airport' (in the list of network connections) became corrupted, so I made a new 'Airport' connection file for the list. it was the weirdest thing, but it actually happened, so go figure!

  • Printer not found under snow leopard

    Hi
I have just bought a new iMac to replace my 7 year-old iMac. I have an HP Laserjet 6L printer that worked quite happily on the old machine (OS 10.4) using Gimp/CUPS. It connects with a USB/parallel port cable.
Today I'm trying to get the printer to work with the new machine, but I'm getting nowhere. When I go to print and fax in system prefs it says "no printers are available". When I click the "+" to add a printer, the list in the "Add printer" window is empty and everything is greyed out. I did put the install disk in and installed printer support for all printers but that hasn't helped
    thanks in advance.
    david

    Hello David,
My thought is that you were probably using AppleTalk to connect to this printer from 10.4. AppleTalk was a multicast protocol and thus it would advertise the printer on the network so that you could see it to add.
AppleTalk has been discontinued in OS X 10.6, hence no printer is seen when you select to add. So you need to use some other protocol to connect to your printer from your new iMac. I believe your LJ will support IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket as a protocol, however you have probably never had the printer configured with an IP address so that would be your first task. This may require referring to the manual or contacting HP if no one on this forum can provide you with the necessary steps.
Once you have an IP address set in the printer, you can then add the printer by selecting IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket. You can then enter the IP address of the printer, leave the queue name as is, change the name from the IP address to something more meaningful and in the Print Using menu, look for your HP LJ6L PPD (or use the Gimp/Gutenprint driver if necessary).

  • Aperture 2.1.4 is not working under Snow Leopard.

I just upgraded to SL in preparation to move to Lion. Aperture now crashes when I try to export images. I guess this doesn't bode well for 2.1.4 running in Lion, huh?
Is there anything I can do to get Aperture running soon. I need to finish some photos this weekend. And is there any chance of getting Aperture 2 to work in Lion or should I just upgrade to 3.1.3 now?

  • Ikon CPP 550 not working under Snow Leopard, please help.

I tried to install the drivers for this. I am using the Fiery X3eTY2 65C-KM PS Color Server v1.0 as the selected driver since that is what I've been using prior to 10.6. But now everytime I go to print, I get this "The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance."
Any ideas on how to get this printer to work?

That error is caused by a permissions issue with the fierycupsfilter plugin. EFI have posted an update that can help to resolve the error. You can download the update via this link.
If that doesn't help, then you may have to manually change the permissions. Open Terminal and copy/paste the following line
    sudo chown -R root:wheel usr/libexec/cups/filter/fierycupsfilter
then press ENTER. You will be prompted for your Admin account password. Type this in and press ENTER again. This will change the permissions and get you printing again.

  • WxPerl not working in snow leopard

    Hello,
wxPerl seems to be not working in Snow Leopard.
    The command:
    wxPerl -e "use Wx;"
    Gives:
    Can't find 'boot_Wx' symbol in /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level/auto/Wx/Wx.bundle
    at -e line 1
Compilation failed in require at -e line 1.
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at -e line 1.
    Is this a known bug ? Is there a work-around ?
    Regards.

    Thanks!
I did both of what you suggested (and provided very detailed specifics of the wxPerl broken code) and was told:
1st Case (Feedback): No response to my feedback
2nd Case (ADC bug report): No response after obtaining an ADC account and filing a bug report
Next, I wrote a letter to Apple, addressed to the "Macintosh Software Development Manager," providing details of the wxPerl broken code problem, the "Problem Details and System Configuration" error log from one of the many failures while trying to launch the TivoTool 0.7.0 application, remarked on the length of time that this wxPerl code has been broken (broken in 10.5.x & 10.6.x software releases) and detailing how this is disabling the TivoTool application and any other user that is dependent on wxPerl functioning. I asked that a trouble report be opened, the problem resolved, and the fix be made part of a software update. Additionally, I requested an estimated date for this resolution to be included in a software update.
I also sent a copy of this letter and enclosures, along with a cover letter, respectively addressed to Mr. Steve Jobs, asking that he provide the proper resources to clear this long time defective code.
Within a couple of weeks (on March 5, 2010) I received a telephone call from an Apple Executive Contact (named "Nate"), due to the letter addressed to Mr. Jobs. After gathering details on the broken wxPerl code, he promised to contact the software development folks and get back to me with his findings. Within a week of this initial contact, he again telephoned (on March 9, 2010) to say that he had contacted the software development folks, provided the information from my broken wxPerl report, that a trouble ticket was opened on the wxPerl broken code problem, and that the wxPerl broken code problem appeared to be a "low runner," e.g. not many users had reported the wxPerl broken code. Additionally, since the broken code was a "low runner," there was no target date to fix the wxPerl broken functionality.
He suggested, until the wxPerl broken functionality was resolved, that I might want to keep a 10.4.x System hard drive available, so that when I needed the wxPerl functionality, I could boot my Mac under 10.4.x, perform my wxPerl work (e.g. use TivoTool), and then re-boot again later, under 10.6.x to use the TivoTool obtained files.
He also suggested that I make sure that the Software Update System Preference be enabled to automatically check for updates ("Scheduled Check" tab). He added that I shouldn't rule out that the wxPerl broken code functionality might one day be resolved through a Software Update.
I was given a case number, for future reference and to allow me to check the status of my wxPerl broken functionality trouble report.
As my dad used to say, "That's all she wrote."
So, because this is a "low runner" (e.g. not many people have noticed and reported the broken wxPerl code), I'd be surprised (but very delighted) to see a wxPerl fix delivered by Apple in the near future. After all, wxPerl has been broken since leaving Mac OS 10.4.x (wxPerl broken in 10.5.x and 10.6.x software releases).
I last spoke to Nate regarding this issue on Mach 9, 2010.
I have not included Nate's telephone number out of a courtesy to Nate, as he is not a technical person, only a contact that handles issues which have been escalated to Apple executives.
The Apple Case Number assigned was: 153683921
Regards to all involved and all effected.
    Thanks -

HP Photosmart C6300 printer/scanner not working after Snow Leopard install
Reinstalling etc does not work - does anyone else have the same problem or a clue as to how to fix this?

    Keith,
I got a C6280 and the scanner does not work anymore. I am for 6 days in contact with HP. The last printer driver install form the apple web site does not open the image of HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg because of an invalid checksum. The skipping of the validation gives and error in the install.
