IPhoto install NOT included with Leopard

Here's the scenario: Purchased an iMac 24" (2.8GHhz) a couple of weeks ago. Got it home and fired it up only to be confronted with Tiger as an OS. There were three Leopard Install Discs provided with the machine so (after much head scratching as to which method of install to choose) I did a clean install. All fine, except it was 10.5.0 and needed lots and lots of Software Updates to get up to speed.
At the same time (in the Mac Store Milton Keynes, UK) I purchased a separate copy of Leopard to bring my G4 17" Laptop in line with the shiny new iMac. I was running Tiger 10.4.9 on the lappy. I ran Carbon Copy Clone (just in case) on the laptop before doing a clean install of Leopard 10.5.1 from the purchased disc.
All pretty straightforward so far.
My main reason for upgrading the laptop was to ensure both machines could run iPhoto 08 (or whatever the latest number is).
When I plugged in (to the iMac) my external Lacie Rugged drive, which holds my Tiger iPhoto Library, Leopard told me that if I opened this in iPhoto 08 I would no longer be able to access it through any earlier versions - thanks Apple!
So, you can imagine my surprise when, after a successful install on the laptop, I came to launch iPhoto only to find it isn't there. A quick look at the (most excellent) Mac Forums provided me with the answer - iLife 08 and it's various components are NOT included with Leopard - thanks again Apple.
A ha, I thought. I'll simply use the 'Everything Else' discs that came with the iMac and install iLife from there.
Pop in the disc, choose 'Install other components' packet... Nope - Message come up - Cannot install this software on this computer. Oops.
Latest thought is (and this eventually leads to the question, bear with me)...
On the Laptop - Go back to the original Tiger install discs and see if there's an option to install iLife 06 components only. Then go back to the Leopard Discs and see if they will then allow for an upgrade rather than an install from scratch.
Question really is, I guess, does anyone else have a suggestion? Other than go out and buy a copy of iLife 08! Just trying not to overspend on Apple products that surely should be included in the Leopard install. I don't recall EVER having to pay for additional Apple software through any of the upgrade paths in the past.

Hi there
I used Pacifist OSX package extractor. Take the Leo install disc that came with your new Mac, install Pacifist on the computer you want iphoto installed and extract iphoto. I quote from the manufacturers (charlessoft.com) website:
"Pacifist is an essential utility that allows you to extract certain files from Apple's bundled installer packages. For exmaple, if you need to reinstall iDVD, the only Apple-sanctioned choice is to restore your entire system. Using Pacifist, you can extract just the iDVD application.
Even if you think you'll never use it, you should download Pacifist - I guarantee that someday, someway, you'll want to get at just one file out of an installation bundle. As soon as you do, register Pacifist, as it will have just easily paid for itself in time saved!"
I did it that way and it worked flawlessly. Hope this helps.

i upgraded to snow leopard but iphoto was not included. How do I install iphoto on snow leopard 10.6.8?

IPhoto is not included in any OS upgrade. It is a seperate application. Unless you choose to erase your drive when you upgrade no application including iPhoto is affected by the upgrade (except potential compatibility issues). If you need to reinstall iPhoto for and reason you do it from the original source. Either
1- the restore disks that came with your computer
    Or
2- the iLife DVD upgrade that you purchased
    Or
    3- the App store

Tried updating firefox but it is not compatible with leopard op. If I try to re-install the older version will my bookmarks still be there?

Current Firefox versions require a Mac with an Intel processor and OS X 10.6.
Firefox 16 is the last version that runs on Intel Mac OS X 10.5.
You would have to update to OS X 10.6 to be able to use current Firefox releases.

  • Iphoto will not sync with older mac?

I have an older ibook, G3, with just a CD drive. I am running tiger 10.4.10 and iphoto 2.0. I understand that in order to sync photo's I need the latest version of iphoto which is included with ilife 08. Here is my problem, ilife 08 will not run on a G3 mac! Plus I don't have a DVD drive to instal it? So ... How in the heck can I get the latest version of iphoto on an older ibook?

Create a folder in the location of your choice - named by whatever you choose but if you want to have an Album or multiple Albums of sorts, create these folders in the Pictures folder in your Home folder/directory - which should be the same location as your iPhoto library location.
Export the chosen pictures from iPhoto to the created folder or folders placed in your Pictures folder.
Under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes at Sync Photos From, select the Pictures folder which should be available via the pop-up menu.
    Select - Selected Folders.
The folder or multiple folders you created within your Pictures folder should be available in the window below. You can select each folder or a chosen folder. The number of pictures available within each folder should be available to the right of the folder name.
Select Sync and you are done.
To add additional photos to your iPhone, add chosen photos to the existing folder or folders created in your Pictures folder or create a new folder. This is the manual way of creating albums within iPhoto but serves the same purpose.

  • Idvd was not included with my mac mini how do I burn movies?

dvd was not included with my mac mini how do I burn movies?

It is now confirmed that iDVD and iWeb have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.
You can purchase the iLife 11 boxed disk at the online Apple Store while supplies last or possible at Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • IPhoto does not open with new Mt Lion

Just installed Mt Lion and cannot open iPhoto.  Purchased iPhoto Library Manager and can add new photos and have my old library rebuilt but still cannot open iPhoto. This is the response I get when tried "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable". In iPhoto library manager iPhoto will not open with the option/command key pressed. Could not rebuild/open it in Time Machine. Suggestions?

    applesRnice
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto 5.0.4 with Leopard 10.5.x?

Does iPhoto v.5.0.4 run in Mac OS 10.5.8?
I'm going to upgrade our eMac to 10.5 with iPhoto 5.0.4 and I don't know if it will run in Leopard. iPhoto for Panther (v.2.0.1) got busted with Leopard upgrade.
    If no, what to do?
    -Mike

Yes iPhoto 5 is fine with Leopard - although there are lots of reasons to go ahead and upgrade to iLife '09 with iPhoto '09 - but it is not necessary

Your profile says OS 10.5.8, Snow Leopard is 10.6.
After installing Snow Leopard, did you do a software update? Apple menu / Software update ..
If you have not run it yet, do so. It will give you the highest versions of Snow Leopard and Safari. That might help.

  • Idvd is not included with lion, apple says is discontinued , where i can get it?

idvd is not included with i life11 installed with new i mac tha comen with  Lion, apple says is discontinued , where i can get it?

Make a couple of phone calls.
iDVD is a “Must Have".   (Yes, it should be included.)
Call Apple, they sometimes sent out iDVD at no charge.
    800-692-7753
    800-275-2273
If you are still within your 15 day return period,  nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.
Most people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
they got a free copy of iDVD.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

If you have Yosemite you need iphoto 9.6 from the App store - what is the exact error message you are getting?
Try dragging the iphoto Application to the trash from your applications folder (wait tot empty the trash) and then install iPhoto 9.6 from the App store

  • Tiger AB Archive not importing with Leopard AB.

I have my address book backed up as an archive under Tiger, now I am on Leopard and I want to import my contacts, I use the import Address Book Archive from the Menu Bar, it asks if it is OK to replace all my current contacts, I click Yes, and... nothing happens!
Anyone have any idea what the problem may be? I am using a totally clean install of Leopard, hence the need to import an Archive.
    Thanks,
    Anil.

I have the same problem, the import of my Tiger Address Book file won't work.
I initially started out from an Archive & Install of Leopard, and dragged the /Application Support/Address Book/ folder from the archive to the correct location on the new install.
Nothing showed up in Address Book. I then grabbed an AB export/backup I had from Tiger and tried to import that - again nothing worked.
    Here's what Console tells me:
    *05/11/07 13.25.06 Address Book[8769] The NSManagedObject with ID:0x3d9a80 <x-coredata://6F0B0E0D-CF51-4D98-A5FB-CAB9A9BD67B6/ABCDCustomProperty/p1> has been invalidated.*
    *05/11/07 13.25.15 AddressBookManager[8808] Records in database: 2*
    *05/11/07 13.25.15 AddressBookManager[8808] Records in metadata: 1*

    "A2C25347-DAA6-4465-90CF-506AAA4B3E98:ABPerson"
Is this an indicator that a record or entry in my old Address Book is not compatible with Leopard perhaps?
I've heard many others have the same problem, has anyone found a fix for this? I did of course try to restart AB, even restarted my MacBook Pro but nothing.

  • IPhoto will not open with pictures when I click on the icon.  It does show that it is open on top toolbar. What happened to my photos?

iPhoto will not open with pictures when I click on the icon.  It does show that it is open on top toolbar. What happened to my photos?

Did you run any updaters recently, i.e. like just before this happened?  Try this first fix: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..
