Iphoto & Iphone 5 Movie viewing issues

Hi, I have Iphone 5 OS 6.1.2 and I download my photos onto Iphoto 9.4.2, but Iphoto doesn't recognise my movies in my movies smart folder, and also has made imovie imports complicated, but not impossible. Any ideas how to easily view all my movies? I do a few movies so I'd prefer to no have to do manual folder creation, if there is an easier way available. I have tried theS Smart Folder Option

Add both Photo is Movie and file name ends in .mov (or whatever is the extension and set it to ANY.

Movie viewing issue

I have itunes version 11.0.2 and am trying to play both rented and purchased movies. However, whilst I can hear the music / dialogue, I am left with a blank screen - any ideas on what the issue might be?

I'm having the same issue...
I installed the latest version of Quicktime on a new PC and when I play a quicktime movie, the screen is split in half and I get to two left halves of the movie playing in both sides. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Anyone else encounter this problem or know how I could go about fixing it?

When I use my IPhone 4S to view the Shaw Go Movie Central App when I am at home I only use WiFi which is automatic, I start watching a show and sometimes I will get a message like "you can not use your cellular for video playback" or something close to that. Then I received an email from Telus saying I had used my 3G instead of Wi-Fi using 75% of my data. How can this happen when I'm on Wi-Fi at home? If it switched to 3G for some reason I should have been disconnected and not just transferred to 3G network using up my data. What is the fix for this??

It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
To answer your questions,
1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.

Iphone 4s movies not playing outside iphoto

Hoping someone could please assist. I cant seem to play movies uploaded from my iphone 4s anywhere other than in iphoto. Quicktime is the default player and pops up and works in iphoto, but when I try to view the same file via finder, Quickplayer wont play them. Any suggestions?

If I sync the iPhone 4s movies with the iPad, I can see them play smoothly on a screen that's larger than the iPhone. But that's a ridiculous workaround.
Anybody with ideas....?

IPhone 4S movies won´t play in iphoto

Here is the problem:
I record a movie with my iphone 4S. No problems there, I can watch them on the phone. I tranfer them to iphoto 11 (v9.2.2) and they wont play. I hear the audio but I see a frozen screen.
Now I drag the movies to my desktop and they play perfectly with quicktime.
(when I transfer movies from my flip camera, they play in iphoto with no issues.)
Any idea what to do to be able to watch iphone 4 movies in iphoto?

IPhoto iPhone Import Question

Hello... when I plug in my iPhone to sync, it opens iPhoto where I can view photos/videos I can import. The issue I have is that some of the pictures or videos come up blank and I cannot see what it is. I quit and come back, resync, etc, it's always the same pictures/videos that just do not show what the item is.
The same happens in Image Capture, but instead of being blank, it just shows the icon of a JPEF file instead of a pictures.
Does anyone know why this happens?

There really isn't anything different about them. All of them are in my Camera Roll and all of them have been taken with the iPhone 4. None of the affected pictures are imports from a previous generation iPhone either. I just have taken them and noticed that the pictures are missing when I'm importing. I should point out that the import works fine, it's just that I cannot see what I'm importing sometimes.

IPhone Calendar List View Extends Back Only One Year

My iPhone calendar List view extends back approximately one year despite the fact that I have calendar entries extending back to 1999 and that older data is visible under the Day and Month views. This is a problem because the only search mechanism in iPhone calendar is through the List view. Therefore, any search I conduct extends back only to the data in the List view ... which means back only one year.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on how I could change this such that the List view extends to include ALL of my calendar entries and is in conformity with the Day and Month views? (I wanted to ask if anyone knows how to "correct" this, but perhaps Apple has designed it this way to speed-up the searching in List view ... I'm not certain.)
I am currently running the most recent iOS update, am syncing my iPhone calendar via MobileMe, have upgraded to the new version of the MobileMe calendar, and have ALREADY reset my sync. history, deleted my iPhone calendar and re-synced it, etc. These don't resolve the problem.

I've noticed that the date to which the List View will "look back" will change depending on software updates or syncs.
For instance, a few weeks ago my List View went back to December 2009 ... now it goes back to Jan. 2010 (i.e. I lost a month of "look back"). I do not specifically recall what triggered this change, but I reset my sync. log during this period.
If you make no changes to the sync. log or update the software, the List View start date will stay constant I believe. For instance, if the List View goes back to Jan. 1, 2010 right now it should stay that way until you reset the sync. log or update the iPhone software. Theoretically then the List View can "look back" much longer than 12 months assuming you make no changes to the sync. log or update the software. Of course, this doesn't address our issue here, but I thought I would point out that there seems to be a consistent pattern here and not some random bug screwing things up.
I'm still thinking that this is the way Apple intended it to work. In other words, that Apple felt it necessary to limit the calendar search feature to approximately 12 months worth of calendars. I hope I'm wrong.

IPhone calendar + List View All Calendars option (MobileMe)

Hi all,
I'm trying to fix a problem, which maybe there for some time already, in the iPhone Calendar. I'm using MobileMe to sync contacts and appointments. All my devices are up-to-date to the latest levels of firmware and software.
I have a normal calendar in iCal and some subscribed calendars. Ther's no difference in both type of calendars.
This is what's happening.....
- Individual calendars are all looking perfect in List, Week and Month view.
- All Calendar option is looking good in Week and Month view.
- All Calendar option is bad in List view mode.
When selecting the last option the Today date is changed a couple of days (Today = Wednesday 10-3), but also appointments are on different days. For example the soccer games on Saturday (6-3) and Sunday (7-3) are now changed to Tuesday (9-3) and Wednesday (10-3).
I have the same calendar on my other iPhone and nothing weird going on over there?!?
Does somebody have a clue?
PS. The calendars for this (MobileMe) user are all correct on the other Apple devices.

Got a message from cini007, but I get an error message when I want to reply to that message. I have copied the "solution" below.
I have tried this, but it's not working. The only thing happening is it has changed the dates randomly.
Although I have been looking for the auto shut-off option. I can't find that option only in the alarm clock options?

I had Genius Bar visit with same issue—no go (was advised to reset to factory settings).
BUT here is the SOLUTION as it happened again:
1. set auto shut-off to never
2. turn OFF MobileMe syncing for calendars on the iPhone (from Settings menu)
3. wait for calendar entries to be removed—takes minutes if you have several calendars
4. hard reset iPhone (press Home and On/Off at the same time for >5 seconds), and wait 2 minutes (about the time to reboot)
5. restart iPhone
6. turn ON MobileMe syncing for calendars on the iPhone (again, from Settings menu)

IPhoto Chrashes Importing Movies

I have an early 2008 24" iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM. I dropped a 2TB SATA HD in it, and everything works perfectly...except iPhoto and iMovie.
I am currently running iPhoto 11 9.4.2 & iMovie 9.0.8
For the last 4 months iPhoto and iMovie have crashed the moment they were launched. I remember hearing that there was a third party codec that was wreaking havok on Macs, so I searched for anything that was installed on this machine in the past and deleted suspect apps. The problem persisted.
So on a hunch I removed all .AVI and .MOV files from my iPhoto Library and placed them in a folder on my desktop. That allowed iPhoto to launch, but it was quitting in the middle of imports from my iPhone 4. After examining the the iPhoto Library and comparing it to the photos and movies on my iPhone's Camera Roll, I discovered that as soon as iPhoto encountered a movie shot on my iPhone 4, iPhoto would crash and display the massive log file.
So now i am forced to select only photos to import off of my iPhone, and the movies I have are in limbo till I discover how to fix this. iMovie crashes immediately to this day, and I can't find an answer anywhere.
There are 3 accounts on this machine; mine, my girlfriends, and a stagnent admin account.

For the last 4 months iPhoto and iMovie have crashed the moment they were launched.
make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Also look for the iMovie preference file, com.apple.iMovie.plist, and move it to the Desktop. Then launch iMovie.

IPhone 4 movie camera not showing widescreen by default

One annoying issue I'm having when taking iPhone 4 movies is that it always defaults the display to full screen mode, which means you can't see what you're filming on the sides. You can double tap on the video (while filming) to switch to widescreen mode, but having to do that every single time is painful. This happens both in the Camera app and in iMovie.
Is there a way to permanently tell it to be in widescreen mode while shooting videos?

If you have an Alltel plan with an Alltel PRL, then the "Verizon" doesn't usually get displayed as the recognized network. If you were seeing it, one of the Network settings updates was coded correctly to display Alltel PRLs as Verizon. The most recent one must not be coded the same way.

Iphone 4s phone call issues

I just bought an iphone4s, white, 32gb. Sometimes when I make a phone call the person that I am ringing cannot hear me but I can hear them. I have to turn the phone off and then on again, then call them before they can hear me. I dont have the phone in a cover as yet. Is anyone else having the same problem and is there a solution?

I was having the same problem and also loosing battery life - it suddenly happened. I went online and saw where someone said to get rid of all the unused apps still sitting there, deleted all the old posts and yea! suddenly the problem has been fixed. Hadn't deleted the unused apps in quite sometime, so obviously draining everything.

These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.
These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications.
please help me to fix this problem

You need to either delete and buy them, or get whoever holds that Apple ID to tell Apple to release them. On a Mac, deleting the applications won't affect their data, but that should be backed up anyway.
