IPhoto is 150 GB but says it has no photos.  What to do?

Just Restored a backup from TimeMachine.  It is the same size but says it has no photos.
Any ideas what to do?        Thanks.

It is the same size but says it has no photos.
Explain a bit more, please. Where does it say "no Photos"? Does iPhoto show "no photos" in the Photos view, when you launch it?
If iPhoto does show no photos after launching, it may have created a new, empty library, instead of using your restored library. Check, which library iPhoto is using. Ctrl-click the the word "iPhoto" in the title bar of the iPhoto application window. It will show you the path to the folder with your current iPhoto library? Is this the same library, as you restored?
If iPhoto is using  a new library instead of your restored library there may be a permissions problem or a version mismatch. What is your current iPhoto version and which version of iPhoto created the restored library?  What kind of backup did you restore from and how? Where is your restored library located? In the default location, your Pictures" folder or in a different folder on an external drive?
If the library is not in your Pictures folder, launch iPhoto with the alt/options key held down to direct it to your library.

  • IPhoto recognises camera but says I have no photos to import - help!

What the subject says... I am using iPhoto 8.0.4. I have an HP Photosmart R727. I have always imported my photos exactly the same way - I plug my camera into my Macbook with a USB cable and the photos import automatically. I go to import some photos today and my Macbook is recognising the camera being plugged in but says there are no photos on it. There are 33 photos on it! I've restarted everything, checked for updates to iPhotos, etc. No idea why this is happening, as I say I've not changed any settings. Ideas?
I don't have a card reader, the photos are on the memory in my camera.

You may have a format problem with your memory card - does your camera mount to the desktop so you can look with the finder? Or do you have a USB card reader to mount it?
The free trial version of Media Recover - http://www.mediarecover.com/ - will tell you what it can recover form the card - you will have to purchase it to actually recover the photos
Once you have them safely in iPhoto use your camera's format command to reformat your media card and see if that that cures things for the future

Open the Sharing pane in System Preferences. If the Computer Name is not set, enter a name. You may first have to click the lock icon in the lower left corner and authenticate to unlock the settings.

  • My Iphoto libary is full and will not acept new photos, what is the best way to solve this problem without losing old photos

    Hi
My Iphoto libary is full and wil not acept new photos what is the best way to solve this problem without losing the old photos?

  • Suddenly, one of my iPhoto Libraries will not open, or rather iPhoto opens, but says there are no photos in the file.  However, when I backed it up and looked into it otherwise, the images 86gigs are still there in the file. What to do??

Suddenly, one of my iPhone libraries will not open with 86 gigs of images: it opens and says there are no photos, yet by other looking, all the images are there and when backing up, it takes an hour.
Somehow iPhoto application will not recognize the images (over 13,000) in the file.
Any suggestions as to how to fix the matter<

To move from iPhoto 08 (which is v7) to iPhoto 11 (which is v9) requires that you purchase iPhoto 11. Your software update is running just fine. V7.1.5 is last version of iPhoto 08.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
    As to the problematic library:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Migration Assistant finds external hard drive but says it has 0 kb in profile

I'm trying to transfer all my stuff from one MacBook to a Macbook Pro. I have been saving Time Machine back ups on an external hard drive for a few years on the original MacBook, running 10.6. I know it has been backing up properly because all of the files are there when I browse the backups folder.
When I go to Migration Assistant on the MacBook Pro and choose back up from Time Machine or other disk, Migration Assistant recognizes the external hard drive, but when I click through, it shows my user profile and says it has 0.0 kb in it. Also says 0.0 kb for Apps and Documents / Files.
If I do Mac to Mac transfer through Wifi, it finds the entire profile and all of the files. That takes too long, though, and I thought the purpose of having my stuff on a hard drive was to make this process really easy.
Appreciate any help anyone can give me about getting this to work right. Thanks.

I did this just yesterday yesterday. I put a new disk into a G4 iMac, installed a fresh copy of Tiger on it and then migrated the user folders across from the old drive that I put in a firewire enclosure. Obviously if you go for an Intel Mac then you will have to be careful with the applications.

  • Aperture 3 show an empty Project, but say that have 2 photos...

I know I hid an event of my Grandmother in iphoto. And now that I merged my iphoto library with aperture, the event shows the number of photos in the left botton, but doesn't show the photos. The events is here but is kind of empty.
I've clicked the magnifying glass and I selected "Showing All" and "reject" but nothing happens.
These photos are very important. How can Isee then?
Ps: I don't have iphoto anymore because I did a clean install of OSX 10.8 and don't have the iLife CD anymore...

This, I think, gives you a broader picture of what's going on.  From Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture:
    •  Photos hidden using iPhoto's Hide command cannot be accessed in Aperture. If you open the library in iPhoto, unhide the photos and then open the library in Aperture, the previously hidden photos are accessible.
    •  Photos rated as rejected in Aperture are not accessible in iPhoto. If the photo's rating is subsequently raised in Aperture, it will then be accessible in iPhoto.
There are other operational details at the linked page worth knowing.

  • IPhoto seems to be frozen, says it's importing photos but there is nothing connected to it?

I have only had my Macbook Air for around 2 months, and it is my first Apple. I don't know what to do about the iPhoto problem. I have connected my HTC One phone and my iPod to it to charge and to import photos before but neither is attached to it currently but iPhoto seems to be frozen. It will not let me close it or shut down my computer, it says it is currently importing photos and that I need to wait until it is finished. How can I resolve this? Thanks in advance.

I just bought 3 songs.  2 are playing fine, but the other wont start, and says that I have to authorise the computer.  But it IS authorised, otherwise it wouldn't play the 2 that I bought at the same time!  Can anyone help?

The song appears to be corrupt. Delete and redownload it if doing so is free in your country.

  • Installed CS3 but says Illustrator has already been downloaded-THANKS for your help

I just downloaded CS3 from ProDesignTools & installed it onto my new Mac with the original serial number from when I made the purchase.  When starting the installation process where you can choose which CS3 programs to install, Illustrator is grayed out with a message to the side saying, "already instsalled."  Before downloading the entire CS3 I did try to just download Illustrator since that is the program I am needing more immediately.  Obviously my serial number did not work because it corresponds to the entire CS3 Suite & not just Illustrator.  I thought I had deleted it (the old Illustrator file) off my computer but I don't know why it still tells me that I've already installed it.
I really need Illustrator and would very much appreciate any help since CS3 is no longer supported by Adobe.  THANK YOU!!

Your best bet might be to uninstall it all and clean up afterwards using the tool linked below.  Then retry installing CS3.

  • My iPhoto keeps saying it has found photos that weren't imported?

Okay I just bought an Macbook Pro and im still learning the ins and outs of it. My iphoto keeps telling me i have "11 photos have been found in the iPhoto library that were not imported." and ask me "Would you like to import them?" I click NO then it stores it in a Recovery folder. The thing about that is every time I open iPhoto it always says the same thing. and keeps creating new recovered folders for these unknown photos. I really don't care what photos they are any more because I can't seem to find them, so is there a process that will stop this from happening? Can someone please help me?

Right click on the show package contents, find a folder named import (or importing) and drag it to the desktop. Do NOT make any other changes. Aunch iHoto and you will be fine. Open the folder on the desktop and if there are any photos you want in it. If there are are import them to iPhoto. Then delete the folder

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    Help please.  I have a 2011 MacPro

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
