IPhoto is damaged because of iLife.

I installed iLife '11, and it said the upload was successful,
after i installed it, my iPhoto says, "you can't open the application iPhoto because it  may be damaged or incomplete" and i can't open it at all.
i tried pressing that command and option key down, but that did nothing, it still said the same thing.
how do i fix that? do i have to bring it in, or can i fix it on my own?
Thanks.

Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "Flip4Mac" in the file name.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. It will find all files with that in the file name.  The found files can be moved to the Desktop by dragging from the search results window to the Desktop.
However, you can also go to the developer's site and see if there's a newer version that is more compatible and try it first.

  • Installed iLife 11 and iPhoto is damaged or corrupted.  I see my photos in iDVD media, though.

Cannot open iPhoto.  Message says iPhoto is damaged or corrupted.  This happened after I installed iLife 11 and after I used iDVD to burn slideshows.  I do see thumbnails of my photos in the iDVD media.  How do I get my iPhoto and iPhoto library back?

    Reinstall iPhoto.
    - after backing up, of course.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • How can I back up the iPhoto library when iPhoto won't open and I can't simply copy the iPhoto library packet because "some of the data in the packet cannot be read from or written to"?

How can I back up the iPhoto library when iPhoto won't open and I can't simply copy the iPhoto library packet because "some of the data canny be read from or written to"?

Regarding not being able to open iPhoto.  As a test  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Were you able to create a new library?
If so then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Updating from iPhoto 4.0.3 to iLife 08

    1. If I update from iPhoto 4.0.3 to iLife 08 am I going to lose all my Albums?
    2. When I export an album to a desktop file to burn it to a disk readable by TVs etc, the photos don't appear in the order that they are in the album. What have I done wrong?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    1. If I update from iPhoto 4.0.3 to iLife 08 am I going to lose all my Albums?
No. But always back up prior to an update. However your library will be fine and exactly as you expect.
    2. When I export an album to a desktop file to burn it to a disk readable by TVs etc, the photos don't appear in the order that they are in the album. What have I done wrong?
How did you layout the album? Drag the pics into order, for instance? The Finder, which decides the order when you export works on a strictly alpha-numeric basis. The trick is to title the pics in iPhoto and use those titles as filenames on export. I iPhoto 08 this is done in the File -> Export dialogue. I'm not sure how this is done in v4.

  • IPhoto won't open after iLife update

iPhoto won't open after iLife update.  How get iPhoto to funtion again?

What version of iPhoto? What happens when you try?
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • I'm getting an error message that says iphoto is damaged - delete and reinstall from app store.  If I delete iphoto, what will happen to my pictures?

I'm getting an error message when I try to open iPhoto - it says, "iPhoto is damaged and cannot be opened. Delete iPhoto and download it again from the App Store." If I delete and reintall, what will happen to my pictures?  I cannot open my pictures from the Finder either to save them/back them up.

    Hello jwhhunt,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Your iPhoto Library is stored separately from your iPhoto application, therefore reinstalling iPhoto as the error message describes, will not affect your iPhoto Library.

No that’s probably what I’ll do. I'm thinking the guys at the apple store can only do basic technical support since most of them are sales people that don't know how to physically repair phones. It seems kinda silly that, as fine as a product the iPhone is, when something like this happens they just tell you to replace the entire device without doing any proper diagnostic. If it was any other phone you could simply take it to a cell phone repair shop and they'll usually fix it. It’s almost as though Apple assumes their products will never fail so that when they do, the only solution is to replace the entire device at a cost higher then it would be if it was just a simple fix. So hopefully the local cell repair shop can do something instead of having to replace the entire phone. I'll accept the fact if I have to replace it after taking it to a few places and having some real technicians look at it, instead of a 5 minute trial and error diagnostic done by a sales associate at the apple store being quick to tell me that the phone is useless and has to be replace for several hundreds of dollars.

  • IPhoto doesn't launch after iLife '06 reinstallu

I did a clean system (10.4.11) reinstall, then reinstalled iLife '06 and then updated all the software. None of the iLife apps will launch - iWeb at least gives me an alert that files that iLife needs are missing but iPhoto just does nothing. I've backed up my iPhoto library so they are safe, but I can't even begin to get to them because iPhoto does nothing when I try to launch it. Any ideas?

Thanks, Terence. I'd already reinstalled again, but tried removing all plists and other supporting files from both the system library and user library folders. Same result. iMovie launches, iPhoto does nothing. iWeb gives an alert box that says files are missing and to reinstall iLife. It acts like it's trying to upgrade rather than reinstall, even though my disk is an "iLife '06 Install DVD".
I'd be grateful for any ideas!
    thanks...

  • Iphoto does not open after ilife '11 upgrade

had just purchased ilife '11 and after running install, iphoto not longer works. it asks to be updated but the program then after checking said it's up to date. downloaded the iphoto 9.3.1 update but said it couldn't be installed because my version is too old?? running on mbp 2010, osx 10.7.4.
then tried deleting iphoto from applications folder and reinstalling but running into the exact same issue: 'in order to run iphoto you must run the latest update' and then 'your software is up to date'
    very frustrating.

    Go to
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/
Find and download the 9.1 updater. Run it. Then Run Software update again.

  • IPhoto 8.0 and other iLife '09 apps are not allowing updates :S

Hiya my iLife '09 has keeped telling me to update for a while now and everytime I click update it opens software update but doesn't find any updates.
I am using iPhoto 8.0 and I believe the newest update is like 8.1.1, I decided to download the 8.1 update from apple and it was rather odd that it said the update wasn't necessary?
Anyone know whats causing this, other software like iWork '09 works fine and iLife '08 and iWork '08 have always updated fine.
