Iphoto is damaged or incomplete?

hi there....i have a macbookpro version 10.7.5...when i wanna open my iphoto it doesn´t work and it says: Iphoto can´t open because it´s damaged or incomplete...no idea what to do...can´t reinstall it cuz i don´t have the cd...iphoto was install already when i bought it...any solutions?? thanks for helping...

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • IPhoto damaged or incomplete-Don't want to lose photos

My I mac is about 4 months old. Yesterday I installed iWork 09, no problem. Today there were updates for my i work, so I downloaded and updated my iWork. After that my iPhoto is damaged or incomplete. I cannot access my photos due to iPhoto's malfunction.
I am afraid I will lose my photos. If I reinstall iphoto will I lose my photo's?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You probably have a damaged iPhoto library but your image files are safe. Did you repair disk permissions after installing iWork and it's updates? If not do so, reboot and try iPhoto again.
Next, backup the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1 and #6.

  • ILife '11 installed and now iPhoto won't open, "damaged or incomplete".

I was unable to use iDVD after having Mountain Lion installed.  I had an iLife '11 disk and I installed it.  I didn't see any changes in the application folder so I used the iLife '11 disk again, found the iDVD application and selectively installed it.  Now I have and iPhoto icon with a white circle crossed out and when I try to open iPhoto, I get the message,  "You can’t open the application “iPhoto.app” because it may be damaged or incomplete."
I don't know what version of iPhoto I have because there are just two dashes after the "version" when I Right Click and select "Get info" on the iPhoto.app line in Finder.
I have been reading support blogs for hours last night and this morning.  I am afraid to try any of the fixes because I have already caused problems for myself and my problem doesn't seem to exactly match anyone elses problem, but seems to be a mixture of more than one problem.
I have a backup harddisk that was set to the time machine before I had my computer repaired.  It only backs up to Dec 2, 2013.  I have not hooked it up again yet out of fear that it will start backing up and mixing old with new.  I had Lion before the repair (new video disk) and when I received the computer, Mountain Lion was installed.  This was last week.  I specifically asked that Mavericks not be installed because I was reading so much unhappiness with it.
So - any help extremely appreciated.  I am frozen.

You need to reinstall. There is no choice.
Note the instructions below for reinstalling from Disk:

I specifically asked that Mavericks not be installed because I was reading so much unhappiness with it.
There is much unhappiness with every version of every Os and App everr released - roll back to the release of Mountain Lion and you'll see exactly the same type of commentary. In the main, much of this commentary is useless.
The problems are manifold: for a start, happy people are less likely to review, unhappy people are much more inclined to. That's why we don't have thousands and thousands of posts on this forum from all the people who have no problems saying "look I have no problems". Unhappy people get cross and are more likely to express that anger in negative reviews.
Then what about the reviewer? What is his or her knowledge, experience and skill level? No doubt they are having problems, and real ones, but how do you know if their issues are problems with the app, their own inexperience, third party conflicts and so on. I've seen people on here claim the fact that iPhoto won't edit video is a bug. I've seen hundreds and hundreds of posts from folks on here who are certain they've found a bug, only for their glitch to be resolved. No review is worth anything unless you know something of the reviewer, his or her knowledge and experience.
So frankly, I never bother with those reviews on any such stores, not just iPhoto on the Mac App Store.

  • I just installed iLife on my new Imac version 10.8.2 and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says that I Photo is damaged or incomplete.  What do I do to restore my iPhoto and pictures!

I just installed iLife on my new iMac 10.8.2 version and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says it is damaged or incomplete.  What can I do to get it back along with all of my picutures?  I was told by an Apple employee at my one to one training that it was OK to install iLife to get the iDVD that I wanted. Help!

I have installed iLife a few times and because of photostream, the version on the disc must be updated.  Software update usually takes care of it.  It sounds like you installed an old version over a new version.  I've not tried that.
You have a late 2012 machine, if you open the Mac app store from the dock, you should be able to go to the purchased tab and download/install the right version of iphoto.  Honestly, you should not have used that disc on this new of mac or at least only installed iDVD & iWeb but not garageband, iphoto, and iMovie.
If the Mac App Store shows iphoto as installed already, drag the app from your applications folder to the trash and reinstall it again from the Mac App Store.  That is the version you need.  You may find garageband and imovie have similar problems.
    good luck.
PS.  your photos are in your photo folder in your home folder.  don't touch those, I'm talking about the app "iphoto" in the applications folder.

My new MacBokk Pro has iPhoto which does not work because it is either damaged or incomplete.
I've tried to download the latest update 9.3.2. for it but it then says that I need 9.0. before the upgrade works. I've done that but it now says I need an earlier version to make 9.0. work.
How far back do I have to go and where do I get it from?
I've tried to to migrate the old version of Iphoto '08  7.1.5. across from my old MacBook but I'm told that it is no longer supported.
I'm now stuck with an old machine with a fractured screen and a bent body and a new machine that won't (as yet) take new installations.
Anyone out there able to help?

  • IPhoto may be damaged or incomplete

    Hi all,
I'm trying to finish a project for school (a video) that is due in two days (on Thursday), so I need help really soon. We had video taped everything we needed, I had all of the videos in iPhoto, so I deleted them off of my camera. After installing the new iLife '11, I started editing our video in iMovie, but I had only finished 30 seconds of it when Ihad to go to bed. Then today, when I turned my computer back on, I tried to finish the video but "New Project 2" in iMovie was completely gone. However, "New Project 2" and all of my iPhoto videos and pictures were found when I went to Finder->Search for->Yesterday and Past Week, but I couldn't open any of them. When I tried to start over on the school project, none of my iPhoto videos would show up in iMovie. So, I tried opening iPhoto. When I did this, a message appeared saying "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.
Any advice? And thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
P.S. I have a backup of my iPhoto library on my desktop, if that info is any help. Also, I just got my MacBook in December, so I'm still a bit confused with Apple technology.

I'm having the same exact problem with my iPhoto! I live, breath and speak apple, from my mac to my ipad, to my itouch, iphone and ipod! I never had 1 complaint until now. I bought my iLife '11 before the mac app store so, just like you, I installed the cd and the first couple of hours after I installed it I was on iPhoto, then i shut down for the night. the next morning Iphoto kept freezing when it opened and had to force quite itself and now the app cant even be clicked on!
I think your best bet is 1 of 4 options:
1.) Go to finder and look up iPhoto library recovered photos. Its a folder that should contain any recovered documents that werent damaged. You should be able to import those to iMovie.
2.) You can go back to finder and search all documents. It seems like a lot of work, but you'll find the videos. The glorious thing about mac is that NOTHING gets deleted unless you press empty trash. I still have all my iPhoto pictures and movies even when iPhoto broke on me. So, if you have patients.. GO FOR IT!!
3.) Now there's an app store for mac. This means 3 major things
a.)We waisted $50 on iLife-The app store sells iPhoto for 15 bucks!
b.)No long wait for the software in the mail!
c.)No Screwing up with disks and manuals and cds
-this brings us to your best probable solution-RESINTALL IPHOTO!
put your old iPhoto in the trash. Only the app should be deleted when you drag it to the trash, not the documents. So if you spend and extra $15 It'll install right into your computer and the videos should come up just fine. I've seen it happen in many cases.
4.) If you dont trust me, are skeptical about reinstallation or your just plain confused and helpless, theres a plan B... or in this case plan #4! CALL APPLE CARE! Their super sweet and awesome.....and their professionals! They are your fastest, most reliable source. And I'v seen many people in the same situation as you so i bet apple has already gotten a ton of calls from people like you, dealing with the same thing. they should be pro at this by now! (but if you do call, you have to talk to a machine for like 2 min.,but then an apple person comes on.
Well, good luck with your project! (I also have 1 due thursday so your not alone We'r in this together! haha.) Just don't stress yourself. These things are fixed easy.

  • My iPhoto isn't working. Error message says "you can't open the app "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete.

Just purchased a new mac with Mountain Lion installed. My iPhoto isn't working. Error message says "you can't open the app "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete.

First try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it does then make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
