Iphoto is distorting RAW images from canon on mac mini

Good Afternoon,
Please could some one help with a problem that has started to occur with my RAW images which i have been trying to import from My Canon 700d
When importing to iphoto the pictures seem to distort and either as below go multi coloured or cut half the image off.
i have the latest firmware installed on my camera and have the canon utilities installed on my mac mini and have also tried transfering the images via cable and via a card reader.
the images appear fine on my mac book pro and on the camera
my memory card is also a class 10 30mbps

You could try to revert to the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update, that came out in December.
For example, Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.07
or  to RAW support 6.01. It helped in a similar case:
Re: Digital Camera Raw Compatibility 6.02 - Nikon D800
Any of the earlier raw support versions 5.01 or later should work, since your camera has been supported since Mavericks.
Make a backup of your system and try to downgrade the RAW support to version 6.01
To downgrade the RAW Support to the last version from before the last update try this:
To reinstall the 'RAW Compatibility Update' it is necessary to uninstall the currently installed raw support. Otherwise the installer will rightfully say, that you already have the latest version installed.
If your tests are showing that the problem happens also in a different user account, try this:
The RAW support files are installed in the System Library in the folder "/System/Library/CoreServices" Folder:
To open this folder, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Click the smiling Finder icon in the Dock to bring the Finder forward.
Then type the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G  (for "Finder > Go > Go to folder")  and copy and paste "/System/Library/CoreServices" into the text field. Click the "Go" button.
In the Finder window that will open, delete both the files "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle". You will have to enter your Administrator password. (don't empty the Trash, so you can put the files back, if need be)
Download the current RAW support update from Apple's Support Site:
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1777?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
In the Downloads folder you will find the disk image with the installer. Double click it to open and run and the installer.
Then restart your Mac.

    HELP!
    Geoff

Running Aperture Trial 3.1.2  all updates completed.
May have solved one problem & got another!
I can now import RAW images by selecting 'Raw' rather than 'Raw + L' on camera menu. This leaves me with all large files - potential future storage problem.  Looking into this.
    Thanks for reply though

  • Transferring 15GB-20GB of RAW images from PC to Mac

Transferring 15GB-20GB of RAW images from PC to Mac
    Hi,
I have a 12 MP camera. I can only recover 40% approx. of the deleted RAW image files from my Sandisk memory card. I want to try mwww.cnwrecovery.com which recovers fragmented files, but only for PCs. I have a Mac.
I also want to make sure I get the original large files - or close to that, which has not been the case with 2 out of 4 recovery software I already tried (they yielded files in the 200KB-600KB range.)
I can use a friend's PC but technical questions arise, i.e.:
    a) which media is large enough to use for transferring 15GB-20GB, b) formatting of the media (PC/Mac), c) step-by-step precautions to take when transfering images from media to Mac (formatting, transfer location, etc.)
Apparently, according to Apple support, I have to proceed carefully and in a specific order.
I can use thoughtful and detailed feedback from you guys. Thanks a lot.
    Raphael

It should be easy. Just copy the files to four or five DVDs that are identified for use with Macs and PCs. Then copy the DVD contents into a folder on the Mac using the Finder. Burning DVDs is slow but it gives you physical backup of the images that is very comforting when recovering from a disaster.
Another way is to FTP the files via Internet using one of the large-files sites but that too is slow. IMO DVDs are the way to go. It is possible to have format issues but unlikely if you use quality modern media that are identified as Mac and PC. Just try it first.
When you Finder-copy to the Mac select the files you want, do not just grab the whole DVD as one chunk. You do not need any Win directory files or whatever non-image-files that may be there. Beware of malware any time you touch a PC. If anyting asks you to "install" something on the Mac side that needs your password, do not do it; copying image files requires no installation.
    Good luck!

  • Importing RAW images from Canon EOS 550D

I've used iPhoto 8 (version 7.1.5) with a Canon Powershot. Everything working fine.
I just bought a Canon EOS 550D. Importing JPEG files is OK; But iPhoto refuses to import the RAW images from the 550D.
How can I solve this problem ?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That camera is new and not supported as yet by either Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475?viewlocale=en_US
    or Snow Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825.
Evidently the camera is so new that even the Adobe Camera RAW converter doesn't support it yet - http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
You'll have to use another application that does recognize that format or shoot the highest quailty JPEG the camera provides until support is offered.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Downloading raw images from Canon Rebel XTi and problem with Border FX

Aperture no longer downloads raw images from my Canon 400D / Rebel Xti and installed Lexar Professional UDMA card. I am able to download images to my Dell laptop. This is a new phenomenon only occurring since about 10 days ago. I am currently able to download images from my Canon 5D.
Also, my computer has locked up 4 times today when I have been starting Border FX. I have seen a screen saying that I have to restart my computer by holding down the on button. I have the most recent version of the Border FX software.
    Any suggestions please?

Join the crowd! I just started to experience exactly the same thing on both of my systems. Apparently the latest raw camera drivers broke something related to Canon Rebel cameras. I'm using the Rebel XT.
I tried a quick experiment the other day. I shot a bunch of test photos forcing the camera to store them as JPEGs. I was able to download those without a problem. I then forced the camera back to raw mode and shot a few more pictures on the same memory card. The JPEGs that I was able to download previously no longer will download and neither will the raw files.
I tried reverting to the older camera raw driver on my notebook but for some reason it won't let me do that. I haven't tried reverting on the desktop yet.
Hopefully this problem is fixed quickly. I've got a ton of pictures from a recent vacation I'd like to off load.
By the way, this affects the iPhoto, Aperture and Image Capture apps.

  • Importing RAW images from Canon 450D SLR

I run iPhoto 6 and I have recently updated my digital SLR from a Canon 300D to a 450D. I was able to import CRW Raw files from the 300D but iPhoto will not import Raw images from the 450D (jpegs are ok), which are now coded CR2 instead of CRW. I note that there is a Raw image software update, available but this is only for iPhoto 8. Short of updating to iPhoto 8 is there another solution?

I was afraid that might be the answer, but many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
    Regards

  • Problem with the RAW images from Canon 5d Mark III

hope you are doing good. i need your opinion regarding a phenomena i am observing in the RAW images from Mark iii.
The following images appear to be absolutely correct in the camera and when viewed through a picture viewer.
I have tried and tested the following scenarios:
    1. Used a medium speed kingston CF Card (new) and transferred the images through the USB cable supplied with the camera.
    2. Thought the card might be slow OR faulty.. used Sandisk Extreme and Extreme Pro SD Cards but same result.
    3. Transferred SD Card data through the builit in laptop card reader.
    4. Have directly imported the images from SD Card into Lightroom 4.3, copied the data firstly to laptop HDD and then imported, copied the SD card data to an external HDD and then copied. .... same result!!
    5. Have tried the same with both Win7 and Mac OS.
    6. The DPP sw that came with the camera gives the error of 'Decoding Failed' with these images.
Usually 10-15 images out of 100 give this kinda pattern. so i was hoping if you can guide me what is going wrong here !!!

The camera and PictureViewer are likely showing you the embedded JPG, while DPP and LR are decoding the raw data which appears to be corrupted.  Assuming you have formatted your SD cards in the camera and the issues are always in the same positions in the same images when you transfer them multiple times from the card to different computers via different methods, then the data is on the card that way.
If the embedded JPG is ok then the sensor is ok, so something between the sensor-readout and the storage on the card appears to be failing intermittently, and it’s time to talk to Canon, I think.

  • Opening RAW images from CANON D7 in photoshop? bridge?

    Hi everyone,
First of all, i have no idea were to post my question so im very sorry if its in the wrong place....
I have just bought a new camera which im very stoked with! A Canon D7. Guess if i was surprised when i couldn't open my raw images in photoshop! I work in CS3 and i really need to be able to open the images in Brigde and then Photoshop. And not having to open them in Canons software first.....
So, is this possible or has this expensive camera made me disappointed?
    Very grateful for answers,
    Cheers Anna

I have a 7D too. Here's the thing. The 7D has been supported for weeks now, unofficially, in the Camera Raw 5.5 release. It was unofficial because they hadn't finished profiling it yet. Adobe has released an update, Camera Raw 5.6 beta, that you can download. But since it's still in beta, it is not available from the normal public site. You have to get it from Adobe Labs, here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/CameraRaw5.6
Unfortunately, I see that you're talking about Photoshop CS3. Adobe only puts out Camera Raw updates for the current version, CS4, so you won't be able to use Camera Raw 5.6 in CS3. What you want to do is go to the same link and instead, download the DNG Converter. Once you run your 7D images through the DNG Converter, they will be in DNG raw format, which Photoshop CS3 can read, and so can Aperture and OS X.
At least Adobe is telling us where they are going and how ready they are and letting us download something that can read the 7D raw files. Apple has had no update available of any kind, and no advance word at all.
Since you asked where you should have posted, there are a number of Photoshop forums out there and the are all aware of the situation. For example you could go to Adobe's forums, or many photography-related forums like dpreview.com. These Apple forums are more likely to know about Aperture and iPhoto.

  • RAW Images from Canon Digital Rebel XT

Does (or will) iPhoto 5 support the RAW files from the Canon Digital Rebel XT?

    Hi David,
I have a Canon 20D which is supported in RAW mode.
The following dpreview report outlines the CD software download Canon Zoombrowser EX:
    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/page16.asp
It has a RAW image task which comes as a plug-in with the supplied software.
If the RAW can only be manipulated in the Canon software, a JPEG copy could be saved to iphoto.
I do agree a specific standard would be very helpful.
    Best wishes,
    Scott

  • Has anyone had issues with poor image quality when using lightroom to process raw images from Canon 7dmk2

    Hi everyone..
..I have been having image quality issues when using Lightroom to process raw files from a 7d mk2... They are all soft with poor clarity.....tonight in despair I tried processing them  using  canon's software and they are totally different..."much better"
    anyone else had similar problems....Andy

I have a 7D2 and have not had what I interpret as poor image quality that has anything to do with the camera.
Can you post a screenshot of what you’re seeing and what specifically you don’t like?  Maybe there is something you can do differently or at least there may be an explanation for what you’re seeing.
And if you have a raw image that you wouldn’t mind sharing in a public forum, upload to http://www.dropbox.com/ then post a public share link to it in a reply, here.
In other words post a screenshot of what you see in LR, another of what you see using DPP, and a link to the raw file you’re processing.

  • 1.1: stacking RAW images from Canon EOS 350D at import

I'm noticing a strange problem with Aperture 1.1 and my Canon EOS 350D. If I shoot only RAW images and try to import, Aperture thinks that the timestamp of every image is the time at which the camera was connected. Obviously, this breaks the possibility of stacking before import. If I shoot JPEG, there's no problem, and using the Auto-Stack HUD after importing RAW images works correctly too.
    Anyone else seen this?
    Thanks,
    Fraser

I wasn't using Aperture before 1.1, but I reinstalled from my DVD on a supported machine and the bug does occur.
Strangely, if you open Image Capture before opening Aperture, everything works as advertised. It's only if you have Aperture set as the automatic application to open when a camera's connected.
For any Apple people that might be reading, I've reported this as Radar bug #4515776

  • Aperture 3.4.3 cannot read/process RAW images from Canon EOS M.

According to the information provided by Apple, Aperture 3.4.3 is capable of reading/processing RAW files from the Canon EOS M. I do not find that to be the case. I can see them in the preview when they download but as soon as I click on them I am met with the message that the files are in a format that Aperture does not recognize. ***** because I usually ONLY shoot RAW. Am I alone here?
    Thoughts?

It sould work in Lion also according to this page from Apple. Are you sure you have the latest version of Aperture?
I would double check just to make sure you have the latest OS and Aperture.
What happens if you open the RAW file in Preview?
If you go to /System/Library/CoreServices you'll see the RawCamera.bundle file. Select it, right click on it and choose Get Info from the menu.  The Info window will look like
    You should have version 4.01

  • Lightroom not seeing RAW images from Canon 20D

I am running Lightroom and if I take RAW images on the Canon 20D and I click Import, select the 20D as the source, it says "No images to import" now if I open the EOS transfer utility and download it there, save it as a CR2 and then Open it in Lightroom it all works fine. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm having horrible problems uploading my RAW files, captured with my 20D, using a cardreader. More often than not, Lightroom hangs after a dozen or two files, though more are imported than are actually displayed. Even when a "successful" import occurs, at least ten or fifteen files are ignored or rejected for reasons that are utterly unclear. I never have similar problems with Photoshop Bridge.
I'm running Windows XP with 2GB of RAM, an AMD Athlon 64 3400 Processor (2.2 GHz), NVidia GForce FX5500 graphics card, and an absurd amount of free space in my RAID array twin internal 250GB HD's and 320GB external drive. Courtesy of absurd problems with Roxio in the past, I've updated DirectX and all my drivers and UNinstalled and roll-back my OS to Windows MediaPlayer 10 (ver. 11 really screwed up my system, a problem lots of people, apparently, have encountered).
PLEASE HELP! I've read and heard so much positive feedback on Lightroom - but for me, the darn thing, thus far, has been a bit of a waste of money. Workflow tools aren't worth anything if the beginning of the proces - uploading images - is a huge problem.
    Regards,
    Bill
