IPhoto is driving me mad
I've been driven insane by iPhoto
I've an old imac G3 upgraded to OS 10.3.9
It's beginning to die (topic in another forum!) and I'm trying to back up the 900+ photos of my children onto an external DVD drive.
The problem is that evry time I've downloaded a load of photos from the camera, iPhoto has named the first picture 001001 or something and then 001002 etc etc. The next time i download a film, it does the same thing - so I've ended up with loads of different photos with the same name. So the software for the burner thinks these are duplicates and ignores them.
I've just spent 3-4 hours renaming half of them in sequence - and its done the same thing! I've been changing the title in the box in the bottom left hand corner just above "date" and "size" - but when you go to File>show photo info, the old name is shown. I've logged out of iPhoto and back in and it appears to have the new name, but the File>show photo info shows up as the same old one again.

Nothing is wrong with iPhoto. Blame your camera if you don't like the way pictures are named. iPhoto has no problems with duplicate names because subsequent downloads go into different folders.

Photo titles and photo file names are two different entities. You can change a photo's title as displayed in iPhoto, but there is no way for iPhoto to change the file name of an existing photo file. One of your options is to use the album name when exporting copies of photos, but you're limited to naming 99 (or fewer) photos from any album with this export option.
Having said all that, there's a good chance that none of it is material to your stated objective: to backup the 900+ photos.
Just copy your iPhoto Library folder to the external drive. If there are other photos in the library you don't want, just use iPhoto to delete them from the external copy.

Please can somebody help ....My iphone said not enough icloud space available, so I have delete all back ups and checked what apps are linked to my back up and it is only my photos. Since deleting all current back ups I have tried to back up again and it still says not enough space when I have 5GB/ 5GB available.

Go to Settings>General>Usage to see how much "Storage" you have available on the device. Farther down the list is the available storage on iCloud.
Also check:
Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage; there, tap the device you need info on and the resulting screen lists Backup Options with which apps store data on iCloud as well. Tap Show All Apps to get the complete list of apps and MB used for backup storage.
A device needs many MB of storage in order to perform a backup to iCloud.

My iphone 5 everytime i go into mail it comes up with - Cannot get Mail - the connection to the server failed- i then have to click ok - I am still receiving mail - it is driving me mad having to click this everytime - anybody else had the same problem and have found a solution - only stated happening since iPhone was updated .

When opening the version of Iphoto i have an error message appears that says; You can't open your current iphoto library using this version of Iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto. What? If I can't open the current library using the latest version of iphoto, and I am asked to make changes the the newest version!!! I'm asked to run in circles chasing my tail...I had a new hard drive installed about 6 weeks ago. I am running MAC OS 10.5.8
What version of iPhoto do you have? If you're on 10.5 then you're not running the latest iPhoto
Any chance that the library was opened with another version?
Simplest solution will be to just restore from your back up. -
when i try to download the software onto my mac, i receive a message saying that safari cannot open the specified address as OS X does not recognise the internet address starting with "aam". Please please can someone shed some light on this, its driving me MAD!!!
Try and download the Desktop Application First before trying to install any other Adobe Product. The link for AAM is Safari looking for Desktop Application in your machine.

Opening iphoto I get an error message that says "you can't open your current photo library using this version of iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto." I wouldn't have a clue as to how to change to a new version of iphoto even if I wanted to.
If you don't have a backup you can resort to give this a try:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Open the library package like this.
2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

In IPhoto 11 I have made an album and rearrange the photosin the order I require them. When export the album to allow me to burn them todisk to be viewed in Windows they do not maintain the same order. What am I doingwrong?
When you sort the Album in iphoto are you sorting manually? Or by date of the photos?
When you sort in the Finder how are are you sorting?
Here's one way to do what you're trying to do:
Create your Album and sort the pics as you want them. Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the Finder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

Orange E65 Wi-Fi and Livebox-driving me mad!

I have recently bought a reconditioned Nokia E65 from Orange UK. The phone is nice, but there is one thing that's driving me mad! I cannot connect it to my wireless internet. I am on Orange home max package and I am trying to connect the E65 to the Livebox. The Livebox is set to accept both WEP and WPA. I have tried to setup the phone to connect with WPA but to no avail; it only seems to connect to the livebox if I use WPE and if I set the network mode to "ad-hoc". It seems to pick up an ip address (checked with IfInfo). However, where I try to access the internet I get the gateway error. I checked IfInfo again and I am not getting any subnet, gateway or DNS. I tried to manually set the IP(to the same value that the router assigned automatically before), so that I could also set the other values; I set gateway to 198.162.1.1 and subnet to 255.255.255.0 (as from Ipconfig on my pc) and I still get the gateway error. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or will I have to send the phone back.
PS I set up the LAN at work (WPA mode) straight away using the wizard in a few seconds. so I really don't get what I am doing wrong.

I already have a cheap Belkin router/modem, but I need to use the Livebox in order to use the second phone line with the Home Max package (cheap/free internet phone calls).
I think the problem here is with the Nokia E65 not the router. I have found loads of people posting on the net about this problem (on this forum too). And it does seem to happen with different routers too! Interesting thread here:

I don't have a BT phone line and never have I have another provider so why am I getting these 0800 calls they are driving me mad day in and day out for months.
PLEASE how do I stop them without having to go to my provider and changing my number??Hi.
Have you signed up for the TPS, The Telephone Preference service. If so when they ring up ask them to take your number off there calling list. If they keep calling fill in the complaints form on the TPS site.
It might help to reduce these calls.
Failing that a good mouthful down the phone when they next ring usually does the trick

Numbers comes to the value of 1. Interestingly enough, when i export to Excel, the answer magically becomes 4. Im a bit of an Excel geek so would like to think i know my stuff, but am trying to switch to Numbers for simple stuff because I like being able to view sheets on my iPhone, but this is driving me mad!

The new column is called "Extended Amount" and is the product of the number sold and the price
E2=C2×D2
this is shorthand for select cell E2, then type ( or copy and paste from here) the formula:
=C2×D2
select E2 and fill down
Now in the the summary table (the lower table):
C2=SUMIF(Sales Data::B, B2,Sales Data::E)
this sums the extended amount for all months that match what you enter in cell B2 in the month column of the table "Sales Data" -
I'm trying to delete multiple pix in iPhoto that i stupidly made duplicates of without knowing, I've tried going into the applications folder and using image capture but i think I've missed a step , can anyone send the correct info / steps pls thanks
again image capture is not involved with deleting photos from iPhoto in any way ever
the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager is very good for finding duplicates as is Duplicate Annihilator
And I have no idea who told you this - or what it means - but re-read both of my opening statements

I have a tiny problem that is driving me mad. When I am playing an album in iTunes using cover flow view (with the playlist beneath the artwork picture) the picture is exactly above the album title. All is symmetrical. When I switch to full screen display, the artwork moves a couple of inches to the left and the display is therefore asymmetrical. Why and how do I correct it? It would drive you mad to.

GrahamI was having the same problem, but tried the "Top Button + Home Button" reset and that did work for me. My unofficial guess is that perhaps RAM caches get filled through daily use of various apps leaving no memory for cover flow. Resetting the phone on the phone itself seems to reset that RAM. I can't say it's a cure-all, but it solved my issue. Hope this helps.

michael.If you have your iPad connected to the charger it could be the new "Hey Siri" feature that allows you to use Siri without pressing the home button. Do you have a radio on or are people talking ? Go to settings> general> Siri> Allow"Hey Siri"> off.

The default font remains Myriad Pro until you change it, either in the RGB/CMYK Startup files or in the preferences, options depending on versions.
Concerning missing font names, I believe this may solve it:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />
