Iphoto is frozen

I'm new to the mac world...I just got my mac before Christmas. Everything has been going fine until this morning. I was working on making a calendar in iphoto when iphoto just suddenly froze. It won't let me quit the program or anything. Hopefully there's just a simple solution that I haven't learned yet. Can anyone help?

  • My iPhoto has frozen - what do I do about it?

My iPhoto seems to have frozen on Events, any suggestions please?
I am using 9.4.2 on OS 10.8.2. It has never happened to me before and I simply opened up iPhoto and tried to move to an album, with no effect.
I closed down the computer and opened up again but problem still there !

It has suddenly sorted itself and is fine again!! Mind of its own.

  • IPhoto is frozen only when I click on "print?"

Please forgive me, I am really not great at this.
But I printed a picture earlier via iPhoto, and everything was fine. Later on, I went back to iPhoto because I uninstalled my printer as I have a new one coming tomorrow. Only when I click on print, my iPhoto freezes. I have uninstalled iPhoto and re-downloaded it twice, did the command and option thing, and still absolutely nothing. It just freezes when I click on the print section/bar. I am so frustrated. Any help?
Edit: And boom. As soon as I posted this, it started working. AHHH.

What happens when you try? And do you mean "uploading" (per your title) or "loading" (per your query)
    What version of iPhoto?

  • IPhoto is frozen says "unable to connect"

I've been trying to access iPhoto to sync photos off of my iPhone and every time it opens it freezes with the spinning rainbow wheel and I have to force quit. In the top right corner of the program it says "Unable to connect". It opens automatically to Photo Stream and I can't click on anything else before it freezes. I have no clue what's wrong- I haven't done any software updates recently, only thing I can think of is a problem with Time Machine maybe but I can't access the iPhoto Preferences within the program to check anything. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Assuming you are running iPhoto 9 or latger apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • My iphoto has frozen! what do i do?

      HELP!!
IT'S BEEN LIKE THIS FOR 2 DAYS !!  AND THE IPHOTO WILL NOT EXIT OR DO ANYTHING!!
IT WILL NOT SHUT DOWN BECAUSE OF IT SO I HAVE TO LET THE BATTERY RUN OUT AND IT STILL CAME BACK UP ONCE                  CHARGED!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
What happened to your power adapter?   You say you have to let the power run out.
If you just plug in, any power related issue should resolve itself, as long as the power adapter is functioning.
Have you tried command-option-escape?  Only unsaved changes will be lost, if you force quit the individual offending application.
Is your data backed up from before you last opened iPhoto?  If not, chances are you will be able to save things after you force quit iPhoto, and/or reboot the machine.  If not, my backup FAQ* has a recovery section that might help with recommended recovery software:  http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
P.S. No need to shout. Using all uppercase on the internet is considered shouting.  I don't think your intent was to be rude.  This is a user to user forum.

  • Iphoto will not close or let me shut down computer.  Now it's frozen and can't even view photos.  Thanks.

I don't know how this started, but I'm unable to shut down my computer because I get message saying my photos are being synced with online... which they aren't.  Now iphoto is frozen.  Can't shut down computer or view photos.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
I have a MacBook Pro bought about 18 mos ago.

Force restart your computer, back up your iPhoto library, depress the option an command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild the library

  • How do I find my old iPhoto Library?  It disappeared.

    Hello,
iPhoto was frozen for a few days (it wouldn't move past the grey, loading screen).  I forced it to a quit a couple times to no avail.  I finally updated my software from the Apple drop down box and the computer restarted.  After it restarted, it said that it needed an iPhoto Library and therefore I needed to make/name a new one.  I assumed it would still keep my photos and I was just renaming it b/c of the software update.  Not at all.  It is a brand new library, neither my old one OR my 1600 pictures are nowhere to be found.
I used spotlight, finder, searched for named photos/events, searched our users, hard drive, just about everything.  I have also tried to rebuild the libaray, it only rebuilds the few new photos I recently imported onto the new library from an iphone.  It does not rebuild or bring back any of 1600 photos from my old library.  I have also tried pressing command and option to choose a different libaray for default, but my old one is nowhere to be found.
Honestly I'm pretty lost.  I don't know how anyone could've "accidently" deleted 1600 photos that quickly.  Is there a virus that just targets iPhoto?  My MacBookPro and all of my other programs (Skype, Word, iTunes, etc.) work completely fine.
Obviously, I think this all happened during the software update.  Could iPhoto have saved my 1600 photos in some type of locked format that I can't access?
PLEASE HELP.  I have NO backup and am just about at my wits end.  I do not want to lose 1600, irreplaceable photos.

I'm afraid the most likely explanation is that some inadvertently overwrote or deleted the iPhoto Library.
As you have no backup you're only hope now is file recovery software like File Salvage

  • The question "Are you sure you want to delete appeared (I don't) and no place to cancel or say no.  Everything else frozen.

The inquiry "are you sure you want to delete the album..." appeared.  I don't want to delete, but there is no place to cancel or say no.  The rest of the system is frozen.  How do I get out of this?

What version of iPhoto and system are you ruinning?  Is this occurring within iPhoto?  If iPhoto is frozen then use the  ➙ Force Quit (Command+Option+Escape key combination) menu option to force quit out of iPhoto.

  • Sent email using iPhoto 11 - v 9.1.1.

Probably a very silly question - nevertheless...
Where can I find a copy of the email I sent from within iPhoto? I use Mail..
    Thanks!

Am I mising something? My iPhoto 11 doesn't have "Mail" in the general preferences. (Mail shows up in accounts because I made it the default in Mail references.) The childish templates are annoying because  iPhoto is frozen after you click Share/e-mail. Can't send multiple pictures unless they're contiguous. Plus it's very slow, doesn't provide the low resoultion options its predecessor  did and won't let you drag photos over to another reply message. I had to send four emals to respond to a request for some pictures. If I just drag a photo to a message, it's full size and I can't find anyway to reduce the file size other than Optimize which puts you right back in iPhoto/Mail purgatory.
Sorry for venting, but my Snow Leopard upgrade is a step backward. Any tricks to make iPhoto vercome the above difficulties? Thanks.

  • Frozen download of Yosemite onto an iMac running 10.6.8

I have a 2009 manufactured iMac running 10.6.8.  I have tried to download Yosemite a couple of times but all I get is the icon in the dock and a progress bar that freezes at about 20% and goes no further.  Has anyone experienced the same and does anyone know the cause? Technically my Mac fits the spec requirements for an upgrade.

hi alan i run a business on ebay selling photos and negs. i recently installed yosemite and it locked my entire library on iphoto. when i try to download the app to free it from ishop it tells me there is a fault with the app and my  iphoto is frozen. i am basically out of work and finding it very hard to find someone who can help me unlock it.. look at the things being said about this yosemite  locking this.....freezing that... be very careful if you need your business for your livelyhood. the actual performance is really good.....better display ...much faster and well presented but is it worth having parts of your compy put out of action i possibly think not. i am new to this community so hopefully someone reading this may be able to advise us both.....paul

  • How can I shut down iPhoto when unresponsive?

I have received a pop up window that "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work  with this version of iPhoto" as I attempted to download a photo from Facebook. I attempted to opt to "Quit" this option seeing as I did not plan to available as this update was being performed. I clicked onto the "Quit" button and now iPhoto is frozen, pinwheel reeling, cannot Quit iPhoto, no force quit option available. Afraid to turn off the computer (running Lion OSX) in case my photo library will become corrupted. Help! How do i shut down this app safely????

Thank you, i will try this option. Only thing is i did read another person having this problem and he did shut down his computer and now his photo library in unaccessible!!! Ugh. I do have an external back up hard drive. I sure hope that my photos are on there to reload into iPhoto!!!!
I did try to place my mouse over the iPhoto icon @ the dock and held down the control key with no results in shutting down the application.

  • Big library, frozen puter, split library?

    Hi,
iPhoto has frozen several times this week. Twice it resulted in the blue screen. The size of the library is 47 GB/ 17K pics. Has anyone else with a large library had this problem?
I have been thinking for a while about starting a new library for future pictures. But, of course I would rather not do this just for convenience. How big is too big? Do any of you have libraries much larger than mine that run smoothly on a similar machine?
Rather than have a split library could I expect that a upgrading from 2gb to 4gb of RAM would solve my problem? At the same time I would upgrade to iphoto 11. Maybe iphoto 11 will not freeze up?
Remember when 2GB of RAM use to be a LOT !? here we go again.
    -Eli

There was nothing in the Console that stuck out as useful info.
    I repaired Disk Permissions.
I tried booting in Safe Mode. It took a while to boot up but when it did iPhoto worked fine. I don't really understand what happens when you boot in Safe mode, but it seems to have worked. Since then I have used iPhoto twice and no crashes. So far so good.
Thanks for the help. I am going to wait a few more days to make sure everything is okay before I upgrade RAM and upgrade to iLife 11.
