IPhoto is gone - Running under iLife 05

Went in to send some photos up to my .mac website and discovered that iPhoto was gone. Not found in Finder under applications or on the HD.
Pulled out my CDs that came with my iMac G5. No sign of iLife 05.
How do I get iPhoto back?!?
I did see a post about running the disk utility which I did. No success.

and discovered that iPhoto was gone.<<<</div>
That just doesn't happen by itself. Someone trashed it and emptied the trash.

If your Mac came with iLife-5, the loader should be there but it might not be obvious. You might wish to Google for a utility called "Pacifist." It will help you extract individual loaders from system load CDs.

  • IPhoto does not run under lion OS

I have a 27" iMac purchased in 2010.  The hard drive recently went bad but Apple support was able to save my data and replaced the hard drive.
I just upgraded the OS to Lion 10.7.  Now my iPhoto will not run.  Get the error message "Lion does not support PowerPC applications."
What should I do.  I do not want to purchase iPhoto 2011.  I have Photoshop Elements 9.  Should I just move my photos over to Elements or can I download a free version of iPhoto?  I like the simplicity of iPhoto for presentation and small changes.

I think you need an upgrade. If you have a PPC version of iPhoto it must be several years old.  You needt to upgrade to the current version. You can purchase iPhoto by itself from the App Store for $20.00.

  • Reinstall and iphoto is gone

Hi.. I'm using Version 10.5.3..I just bought this imac and after reinstalling it, my iphoto has disappeared from the application..the igarage is also gone..while the rest of the applications under ilife still remains.. wonder why this is so? How can i get my iphotos back?

The disks that came with your computer has the iLife applications on it. You can do a custom install from those disks and install only the iLife applications you need from it. Or you can use Pacifist to locate, extract and install the iLife applications from those disks that came with your computer.
You'll have to apply the various updaters to each of the iLife applications and the iLife Support 8.2 updater also.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto library Gone! (replaced in just one click w/o ever dragging 2 Trash)

iPhoto library gone / replaced in just one click (w/ o ever dragging anything to the trash)!
I currently own multiple PowerMacs all sharing the same high speed local network. All of them run the latest / Mac OS X.4.9 and have multiple HD’s (both internal and external) as well as iLife’ 06. And all of them also have iChatAV3 and are able to video chat one with the other at will while on the same local high speed network.
This is my very first iPhoto library nightmare since I’ve owned a mac. and yes I’ve always been conditioned to backup everything one wishes to keep. This particular scenario is no different. (altho my back up HD for one of the three G4 computers involved was a bit dated by at least 6 months).
This was essentially triggered via two separate iLife ‘06 apps , namely iPhoto and iChatAV3 (combined with at least an ounce of stupidity on my part). That combined with 2 people not communicating properly / being on the same page (or rather the same Folder) when working on the very same task. Hey... I do NOT claim to be an expert at this particular application even though I have used macs since apple first introduced the Apple IIe decades ago. So this does not stem from lack of experience but rather not thinking things thru entirely in terms of all the possible consequences of simple, yet catastrophic actions when it comes to replacing or authenticating one particular folder containing the entire iPhoto Library simply titled “pictures”.
Starts like this, ichatav is open on 2 of three macs and my teenage daughter asks me to send her a roll of pictures she downloaded into my computer (since it’s twice as fast as her own) from her digital still camera. Now she wants all 12 photos on her computer as well. So I drag all 12 photos to my desktop and place them in a folder titled “Jackies pics”. I drag this folder to her icon on my buddy list and ichat AV simply refuses to allow sending the entire folder and ask me to send them one at a time. That should have been my first clue. Strange I thought. Always worked well in the past. Why not now? So I tell her over ichatav that the app simply won’t allow me to send her the entire folder and that I’ll have to send them one at a time. Please make a new folder on your HD called Jackie’s pics. She agrees and creates a folder on her end called .... (you guessed it) ...... “pictures”...... to which she drags each of the 12 images I sent over our local network.
Little did she realize this newly created folder has the makings of an atomic bomb when it comes to importing the entire folder into iPhoto’s library on her own mac. A dialog box quickly materializes asking that she “authenticate” or hit cancel. So she ask me what to do. I said that’s fine, hit authenticate (assuming she titled it Jackies pics). BIG mistake! She hits authenticate and now she has the 12 images I sent her in iPhoto....BUT .... the 1600 or so originals in the entire iPhoto library quickly vanishes. Her entire iphoto library is now wiped out or rather replaced with this new folder. She asks me, what happened? And in less than 30 seconds she in complete tears. Over 2-3 years of her photos (all 1600 images) gone in the click of a mouse.
Today is father’s day .... and I remembered that I have a complete backup of her HD (even though it is a bit dated). So together, we managed to recover about 90% of the lost images. If anyone reading this knows how I can possibly recover the final 10% (most current photos) then please help us.
Bottom line: We were fortunate. This Father’s Day iPhoto Nightmare ended happily....
    TIA
    (3) G4 PM's/(3) S-Drives/Sony TRV900/Nikons/6FWHD's/PS7/iLife06/FCPHD/DVDSP/etc. Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Just another update .... Today, my daughter was multitasking on her G4 powermac working within iPhoto as well as email account and last but not least the latest iTunes. As she opened this final app (and I mean "final").... her entire hard drive bit the dust after she saw the spinning beachball and hence attempted to force quit. (I should also point out we are having a heat wave in San Diego today ...which also may have contributed to this hardware issue mainly).
This time, I had a complete updated copy of her HD and simply cloned it to a new hard drive. Took me a few hours to troubleshoot, clone and install a new drive in its place. But all is working normally again (sure hope it stays that way this time).
Friendly reminder to those who read this post .....
BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP .... ESPECIALLY IN IPHOTO & ITUNES!

  • My Macbook pro iPhoto is gone!!

My Macbook pro has been running very slow and today i found out that my iPhoto is gone! I have checked my purchased items and iPhoto is not listed there! What I meant to do?! What is the problem?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.
If it's not on the list then check your account to make sure it's not hidden.

  • I had to get a new hard drive and now iPhoto is gone.  Can I get it back?

I had to replace my hard drive and now my iPhoto is gone.  Is there a way to get it back?
    Thanks

    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

  • IPhoto 7.1.1 Under Leopard 10.5.1 Will not print photo under "save as PDF"

    iPhoto 7.1.1 Under Leopard 10.5.1.
Select a photo, choose "print" icon at bottom of iPhoto window.
    Choose "print".
    Choose "Save as PDF".
Result: Unknown error message appears with white space (no text) in message box, but with "OK" button.
    Hit "OK button".
RESULT: iPhoto prints a screen shot of the iPhoto window and renders it to a PDF file.
In other words, *the print function under iPhoto does not work*. It yields an error every time that does not have a message, then *instead of printing the selected photo, takes a PDF screen shot of the iPhoto window*.
This is an example of poor programming. And of course, there is no way to fix it, or to get help.
Is anyone else having this problem?

This is an example of poor programming.
How do you come to this conclusion. It's working fine for me. You're the first to report such an issue.
First repair disk permissions with Disk Utility and delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. A corrupted pref file can cause all sorts of unusual performance problems. If that doesn't help, log into another account and try from there. If it still doesn't work a reinstall of iPhoto seems warranted. To reinstall iPhoto you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
    It iPhoto performs correctly in the other account then your primary account is the culprit and may be a preference file other than iPhoto's that's at fault. To determine if that's the case try the following;
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I just updated photos on Yosemite and now iPhoto is gone.  How can I get it back?

I just updated photos on Yosemite and now iPhoto is gone.  How can I get it back?

What were you running before you updated? 10.10.2, or an earlier version of OS X (10.9 or earlier)?
If 10.10.2, then iPhoto should still be on your machine. If not, then go to the App Store, purchased tab, and look for iPhoto, and download it (you'll need iPhoto 9.6.1 to run on Yosemite).
If you never installed iPhoto from the Mac App Store, then you should contact AppleCare, who can probably help you out. That's the only option in this case; upgrading from 10.9 or earlier straight to 10.10.3 is a bad incidence of timing.

  • IPhoto won't open after iLife update

iPhoto won't open after iLife update.  How get iPhoto to funtion again?

What version of iPhoto? What happens when you try?
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Why oh why won't AE CS5 run under XP Pro 64 bit?

Francly, i'm getting fed up of this stupid CG world we live in where users have to juggle and zig zag in between the permanent idiotic capitalistic software development battles going on way above our heads for teh sake of profit.
I have a little pipeline  of 20 machines, couple of servers, couple of workstations and a bunch of render nodes. 80% which were set up with Vista (Pro Ultimatte and Business) had to be downgraded to XP Pro 64 for compatibity issues with some of the tools i was using, plug ins for 3ds max and AE mostly. believe it or not, downgrading from this piece of crap Vista did cost me money! ...and now that it is all finally running properly... the one tool i use for compositing in my pipeline that is AT LAST (and the last tool of its kind!!!!) 64 bit native.... WILL NOT RUN UNDER XP 64!!!! Which means that just because for reasons i absolutely ignore Adobe is forcing me to upgrade all operating systems on my network in order to finally benefit of what AE should have been able to do already for at least over a year! Wow! great marketting plan!
So i'm asking two questions here... and excuse my lack of formality....
1 -  ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME?????!!!!
2 - What are my options if i want to upgrade to AE and Premiere cs5 in order to finally make a full use of those within the 64 bit pipeline (that all my other tools are already set up for ...for years!!!!) without having to spend s#itloads extra in operating systems and other consequent upgrades? Cause as much as i'm willing to go with the flow... i'm just fed up with wasting my money over political decisions ADOBE, AUTODESK, MICROSOFT and more are making just to squeeze a little more each time.
    pe@ce,
    Adriano Zanetti

Obviously you did not really read my post, so i'm gonna make it more clear.
I was forced to downgrade to XP pro 64 bit in order to follow what you call "progress", in order to use new tools, new releases, new possibilities, such a Nvidia PhysX related tools which would not run under Vista 64 at that time.
Now instead of shooting in my legs and make me look like i belong to the prehistoric times, try to answer my question honestly and properly since you bother doing so. Not developping CS5 for XP 64 is either an agreement made with Microsoft, or a way to cut down costs on a development that was already a big fat money pit since it took ages to finally come up with a 64 bit version Premiere and AE, after YEARS of existence of 64 bit systems. You can try to make me look as dumb and bad as you want... but those are facts that don't make Adobe's purpose and motives look very neat.
Now to read from a "community professional" that what i thought was my legitimate request as a commercial user and active member of the industry is basically irrelevant because "it's all my own fault"... wow!
Now i don't have access to the same information you have it seems, but look at the amount of users who are still working in the caves like me running Win XP 64 for similar reasons and tell me if it is a considerate choice from Adobe to neglect them. As most professional in this business, i like to be informed and NOT FORCED! Seems fairly decent to expect from Adobe to be notified earlier... much earlier than on the release date of the upgrade that my set up will be obsolete!
And for the very same reasons i did not renew my Autodesk subscriptions... i shall not upgrade to CS5 and will look an other way to find a cheaper more "personal/people" oriented solution, one where the support will not slap in my face "it's you own fault" like ADSK and Adobe do when you tickle relevant topics.
Conclusion, i don't like it... and i don't feel i've put myself in this pinch, but thanks for your answer Mylenium, i'm one step closer to invest in The Foundry Nuke as a compositing solution and open source alternative for editing.

  • Snow Leopard only running newest iLife apps???

I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I have to ask since I have no way of testing it. My Dad was about to buy the Snow Leopard family pack upgrade for himself, my brother, sister and I. The guy at the third-party Apple retailer he usually goes to told him that he will have to upgrade all the computers to iLife '09 because Snow Leopard will not run any earlier iLife apps than the most recent.
It sounded like a load of garbage to me, that the guy was just trying to get an additional sale out of him (which is really uncool), but I wanted to see if anybody has had any issues running older iLife apps on Snow Leopard?

Don't know what you consider more concrete but I installed SL Friday and have used iPhoto 7.15 and iDVD 7.04 quite a bit since then and have experienced no problems at all. They work like they always did but with a slight speed boost.
Yes, I think that 3rd party retailer was either badly informed or, as you say, trying to get a bigger sale. Go to Amazon or get SL or from an Apple store if you live near one. Don't give that store any business.

  • Iphoto does not open after ilife '11 upgrade

had just purchased ilife '11 and after running install, iphoto not longer works. it asks to be updated but the program then after checking said it's up to date. downloaded the iphoto 9.3.1 update but said it couldn't be installed because my version is too old?? running on mbp 2010, osx 10.7.4.
then tried deleting iphoto from applications folder and reinstalling but running into the exact same issue: 'in order to run iphoto you must run the latest update' and then 'your software is up to date'
    very frustrating.

    Go to
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/
Find and download the 9.1 updater. Run it. Then Run Software update again.

  • Rebooted my Mac a week ago and now iPhoto is gone ?

Whole story as a short story... hi
I bought my Mac in June 2011 and also some iLife Products like Garage Band and iPhoto '11.
A week ago I rebooted my MacBook without any problems or mistakes.
But I don't know where to get back the Garage Band and iPhoto app without paying a second time.
I don't wanna upgrade to Mavericks because of the cloud (very secret business matters).
Besides the new iPhoto won't run without Mavericks.
Any ideas, explanations or alternative apps?
    Thanks in advance.

You should have a disk that looks like the iMac disk in this screenshot:
Use it to custom install the iApps you need. Then update thru Software Updates.

  • IPhoto is not running it seems that its damaged or incomplete is , this shows the little tab

iPhoto is not running it seems that its damaged or incomplete , this shows the little tab.

    To back up:
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
As to your main issue: Reinstall iPhoto
