IPhoto is messed up since installed iLife '08
Ever since I installed iLife '08, I have had issues with iPhoto. I can no longer export and save pictures, slideshows, etc to a disk (CD/DVD) and be able to play it anywhere but on my computer. At this point I would like to uninstall iLife '08 and go back to using my old software. How do I do that?
Good4You
I attempted to put my photos into a slideshow as I have done before.
Did you manage to?
Then I attempted to burn them to a disk and play it in my DVD player.
Oh so you did manage to then?
Then I attempted to burn them to a disk and play it in my DVD player.
Did you use iDVD to burn the disk? That's what you need to do to make a disk that will play in your DVD player.

Problems with iPhoto libraries since installing iLife
I have got very confused as to what has happened since I installed iLife and upgraded my photo library. I have read a few posts here and theer so apologies if this is answered elsewhere. I seem to be stuck in a loop with accessing my photos, it tellms me to upgrade the library - which I did - but it still isn't working. I can see all my pics and folders via Adobe Bridge, so they are there... but even when I try to look at the library (actually I have two for some reason) via Time Machine, it says the same thing. Can anyone help? Thank you.
Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create and run a new library then the problem lies with your existing library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

CANNOT OPEN OR EDIT PHOTOS SINCE INSTALLING iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5
I have recently installed iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5.1 and I cannot open or edit or use any of the photos in iPhoto. I get a white circle with an exclamation point in the center each time I try open open a photo.
I did back up iPhoto before installing the new software. Should I reinstall from the back up or is there another fix for this problem. Thank you in advance for the help.Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I believe that's an indication of a permissions issue. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the option to repair permissions.
If that doesn't fix it download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner section and the current group in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
IPhoto won't work after installing iLife '11
I installed iLife on both my work computer which is a '11 iMac and my personal computer is a '12 MacBook Pro. After installing I can't run iPhoto on either computer? When I try to open it on my computer it gives me a window that says "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." I've tried running updates and looking on forums that suggest 9.1 update but it will not allow me to upload it, it says I need a previous version? I'm not sure what is going on but it is very frustrating
Open Finder, go to Applications folder, delete iPhoto and reinstall it again. Finally, open > Software Update and update iPhoto until you have iPhoto 9.4.1

Cannot play music since installing iLife 08 and OS 10.5
I have just installed iLife 08 and OS 10.5.1 and I now cannot list to my music on iTunes or update my iPod.I get a message indicating that the song could not be used as the original file could not be found.
I backed up iTunes before installing new software. Should I re-install from the backup or is there another fix for this problem? Thanks for the help.Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Since installing iLife 09, unable to use iPhoto
Unable to open iPhoto v. 802 or v. 902. Error message reads in part;
"your Photo Library is either in use by another application or has
become unreadable". Any suggestion appreciated.I have tried everything and still, iPhoto does not open.
Then there is no hope
But on the outside chance that you have not tried everything have you rebuilt from all of the available options (except compacting the database)?
Have you used iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild?
Have you created a new user and tested from that new user?
Have you reinstalled iPhoto?
What is 'everything"

IPhoto doesn't load after installing iLife '11
I needed to install iDVD off the iLife '11 disk I had, and it seemingly installed a previous version of iPhoto. How can I restore the iPhoto app that came with the MacBookPro?
Thanks - while refreshing the Updates tab I toggled between it and the Purchased tab. Under the Purchased tab it was listed and I could Install again.

Itunes 8 "unexpectedly quits" since installing ilife upgrade
Hi all-
I upgrade to ilife '08, and now iTunes won't even launch, I immediately get an "unexpectedly quit" error. Very sad, especially now with the new iPhoto working so well. Any suggestions?
- lisaI previously had itunes 8 & 10.4.11 with no problems. Now I installed ilife08 and itunes quits before it really ever opens. I did try the ilife 08 update version 8.3, but now I see that is actually what I had purchased. It made no difference. Then I downloaded and reinstalled itunes 8 again from the itunes website. Itunes now opens again without a problem.
Not sure what the glitch is, but it is very frustrating when you are made to believe these products would be compatible. -
Recently installed iLife '08 appears to have dumped some of my photos
Since installing iLife '08 very recently a number of photos have disappeared. If I go to the iPhoto Library all I have is AlbumData.xml - Dir.data - Library.data and an Album file. All the contents of the album file are alias jpegs and that's it. No originals. There isn't even a file holding originals of the photos I can see in the iPhoto application.
If anyone can help I'd be extremely grateful!
Thanks.... in anticipation.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You are looking in the Pictures folder for the library pacakge, right? Your contents of your library package should look like this? How did you go about updating to iLife 08 and the updating the library?
Do you Twango?

I needed iDvd, but since my iMac is newer, I didn't have iDvd on it. I installed iLife 11. I shouldn't have installed the iPhoto part because now my iPhoto wouldn't work since iLife 11 was 9.1 and my iMac had 9.2. So I used iPhoto Library Manager to create a new library. That was working, but my computer ran out of hard drive room since my original iPhoto had 137 GB of photos. My new iPhoto library had the majority of my pics and the iPhoto now worked with those pics. But now I still had all of those original pics in my hard drive. I thought that by getting rid of the original iPhoto on the iPhoto Library Manager I would get rid of all of those original pics. I now have no access to them but they are in my hard drive and I can't do much with my iMac because it is all clogged up with those original pics - I think. How do I get rid of my original iPhoto pics out of my hard drive?
What system are you running? If it's Mt. Lion go to the App Store and sign in with the Apple ID you used to purchase the Mac. Go to Purchases and download iPhoto again. The current version is 9.4.3.
If you're unable to download iPhoto from the App Store you can reomstall iPhoto from the iLife 11 disk and update it from the Apple Downloads website to the highest version you can get to (I was able to update all the way to 9.4.3 via the updaters). Then if iPhoto can't open the library use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild it and it will rebuild it compatible with your version of iPhoto via this iPLM tutorial: Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I just installed iLife on my new iMac 10.8.2 version and now I can't open my iPhoto app. It says it is damaged or incomplete. What can I do to get it back along with all of my picutures? I was told by an Apple employee at my one to one training that it was OK to install iLife to get the iDVD that I wanted. Help!
I have installed iLife a few times and because of photostream, the version on the disc must be updated. Software update usually takes care of it. It sounds like you installed an old version over a new version. I've not tried that.
You have a late 2012 machine, if you open the Mac app store from the dock, you should be able to go to the purchased tab and download/install the right version of iphoto. Honestly, you should not have used that disc on this new of mac or at least only installed iDVD & iWeb but not garageband, iphoto, and iMovie.
If the Mac App Store shows iphoto as installed already, drag the app from your applications folder to the trash and reinstall it again from the Mac App Store. That is the version you need. You may find garageband and imovie have similar problems.
good luck.
PS. your photos are in your photo folder in your home folder. don't touch those, I'm talking about the app "iphoto" in the applications folder. -
IPhoto library DVD won't open after installing iLife '06
Apple Care recently prompted me to erase and reinstall. After doing so, I installed iLife '06. My iPhoto library was backed up to a DVD. How do I now import those photos into my new iPhoto? When I insert the DVD, I get the message "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto - You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto." Now what?
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9) iLife '06Hey. Thanks for all your help. Got 6.0.4 and was able to import my photos. Had to KEEP the existing library AND create a new library using my backup, then import. Crazy. Yeah!

I am unable to open iPhoto on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.3) after installing ilife 11 from a disc. The message I get is "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete. What can I do?! Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Reinstall it.This time delete the receipts first.
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update. -
Unable to access iPhoto after installing iLife 06
I installed iLife 06. After doing so, my iPhoto folder cannot be accessed. I get a message saying "There is a problem accessing 1 or more files in iPhoto library folder. In the Finder, select iPhoto library folder. Choose File >Get Info. Make sure you have read and write permissions for the folder and then apply this setting to all enclosed items." I have done this, but I still can't get it to open. Any ideas?
iMac Mac OS X (10.4.6)susieslp:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That has happened to a number of users for some unknown reason. Try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Good luck.
