IPhoto isn't importing my iPhone photos?

When I try and import my photos off my iPhone into iPhoto, it says there was an error downloading one photo and doesn't import any of the photos? PLEASE HELP, I realllllllllly need to get these photos off my phone.
If you don't know how to fix it, is there any where else or way I can download them on to my laptop?

Close itunes and try.
Sometimes iTunes tried to access the iPhone at the same time and that it what causes issues.
There is a great app built into OSX that is rarely used but great to get photos off cameras or iPhones.
Look for Image Capture in your apps folder.
This can grab the photos and video off easily and much faster then iPhoto.
You could also use a wifi transfer app, wifi photo transfer is a great app that I use all the time.
Look at which photo or video is giving you the problem, and you could download just that one via Wifi Photo Transfer, and then delete it off the iPhone.
Then try with iPhoto again.

  • IPhoto won't import my iPhone photo library.  Help!

I just bought a new Macbook Pro, and am having difficulty importing photos from my iphone4.  When I open iPhoto, it allows me to import photos from my camera roll, but it will not allow me to import photos from my iphone albums or iphone photo library.  It doesn't even acknowledge that my iphone has any photos on it other than those in my camera roll.  Is there any way to import those?

@sig Your reply misunderstands the issue. While it is straightforward to sync photo albums FROM iPhoto to the iPhone, there is no apparent way to import photo ALBUMS CREATED on the iPhone into iPhoto. I'm having the same issue and seeking an answer, which I'll republish here when I find it.

  • IPhoto Won't Import my iPhone Photos!

I have searched and ready the other threads with the same name, as listed below. Those threads are closed and archived, even though they did not create a solution for me. Please help. This is a frustrating problem that I can't seem to fix.
I'm using iPhoto '09. This may or may not be the issue as far as compatibility with the iPhone.
I had the issue before and still could not find a solution. Then once an update came out it fixed the problem. I currently have over 100 photos on my phone and don't want to lose any of them. I have tried deleting some but it doesn't change anything.
I've tried the suggestions in these threads to no avail:

I had a similar problem with importing impages from my USB SD card reader. I tried importing images using my iMac, Macbook Pro, and a new Macbook Pro unibody and got the same error, "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image." I finally realized that the problem was either the memory card or the card reader itself. I switched to an older usb card reader and had no issues after that.
I am not sure if this is the same problem that you are facing with your iphone but if you cannot import images using a fresh iphoto db and or os test account, then I would seriously look into the possibility that the iphone itself could be the source of your issues.

  • Iphoto isn't importing iphone photos

When I try to close IPhoto it says : Photos are being imported to the photo library. Please wait for import to complete.  This happens when I am not trying to import any photos.  Then when I have my IPhone connected it will not allow me to select either import selected, or import all (buttons are greyed out).  Help please

If your iPhone is plugged into the computer - unplug it. Press and hold the power button. After the computer turns off release the button. Then press and release the power button (as normal) to turn the computer on.

  • Add To iPhoto in Mail fails for iPhone photos sent in multiple emails

Someone takes six photos with an iPhone and emails them to you.
You get 6 emails. Each one has a photo.jpg image attached.
You click the SAVE pop-down menu in the Mail message and choose Save To iPhoto. The photo is imported into iPhoto. You delete that email and do the same thing with the second email with the second photo...
BUT, somewhere the Mail-iPhoto smartness turns dumb, as the rest of the photos will not show up in iPhoto. (This may have something to do with the fact that the iPhone sends each photo with the attachment name of photo.jpg and somehow Mail or iPhoto think that photo has already been added to iPhoto).
I was having this problem with photos emailed to me by iPhone users and tested it myself.
Sure enough, after the first photo.jpg attachment is imported all subsequent Add To iPhoto operations of iPhone sent images fail... even if the photos have been sent from separate iPhones from separate email addresses.
All the attachments are kept by Mail in uniquely numbered folders in the attachments folder of my receiving email account in Library/Mail but since each attachments is named photo.jpg that seems to throw off iPhoto OR Mail (because even the quick progress update of "Adding photo to iPhoto" does not show up on these attempts).
I checked if quitting and restarting Mail fixed allowed the second photo to be added to iPhoto but it did not. Quitting iPhoto after EACH import/Add To iPhoto operation allowed each photo to be added into iPhoto.
This may have to do with the iPhoto bugs handling large libraries (I have 19000 images in it) like the spinning wheel of Names window after imports, etc.
Just sharing if others have the same experience sending 3 iPhone photos by email to themselves and seeing if all can be added to iPhoto from Mail. Thanks.

    Yes it is a bug
Report to apple. iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
You can work around BR saving to the desktop and importing or opening in quick view, expanding to full screen and saving to iPhoto

  • IPhoto crashed during import and deleted photos from import

I tried to use iPhoto today to import 400+ photos from a recent holiday from my iPhone. When prompted I chose to delete the photos from my phone. When iPhoto was in the 'finishing import' stage it crashed and I was forced to force quit it. I assumed that because it said the import was complete and then asked if I wanted the photos deleted it had stopped working during the deleting and the photos would be safe in my iPhoto library. However, when I went into my library, none of the photos had been imported and all but 40 had been deleted from my phone. At the moment I stand to lose 400+ family photos.
Is there anyway to recover them?
My last backup of my iPhone included them on our family computer (I'm currently at university) - would this help? I wouldn't want to restore my phone from this backup becasue I've now got new information on the phone (incl. more photos) which I don't want to lose.
Also, I tried to import these photos in order to make sure I had them saved before upgrading to iOS6. Would doing this affect the temporary files which (I assume) the photos still are on my phone, albeit hidden? Would using my phone in other capacities (i.e. taking photos, texting, using internet, calls etc.) effect the data? Or am I wrong and the photos are in temporary files on my laptop?
    Thanks

First try the following to make sure they are not in the library but just not getting recognized by iPhoto:  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I have PR cs6 and my mac has recently upgraded itself from iPhoto where i imported all my photos and film from to "photos" now all of my current project is showing 'media offline' AAAAARGGGH!! now i can't see anything. the audio is fine but everything els

can anyone help me get all of my edited holiday video visible again? my mac upgraded itself from iPhoto where i keep my imported video and photos, to "photo" now all of my current project (and probably old ones as well! ) are showing media offline. how can i get this back seeing the clips on 'photo'?

When you open a project you need to point PPro to the new media location and relink

  • IPhoto does not import from iPhone

I can not import my iPhone pics anymore. Even when the phone is not attached to the iMAC iPhoto shows "Arthur's iPhone" on the left of the screen. On the right side I see 213 empty pictures although I have deleted everything from my iPhone. With empty I mean thesquare of the picture is there but no image in it.
On my wife's powerbook no problems with the same iPhone.
Can i reset iPhoto or re-install it ?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Can I trash iPhoto library after "importing" them into Photos ?

    Hi everybody.
I have a 157 GB iPhoto library file, with all my photos and videos.
With the last OS X update, Photos was installed.
I told Photos, that the iPhoto library, should be  "Use as System Photo library".
I now have 2 libraries...one for iPhoto and one for Photos. They seem about the same size.
My question now is: Can I now trash the iPhoto library?
Did it import everything from that library, to the Photos library now?
I need the space...Hope somebody can help with this!
    Thank you!

    HI Bobby.
    Thanks's for the answer
I'm going to wait until I have everything uploaded to iCloud then. Takes a while.
Funny thing is, that before the "big import" to Photos, I had about 70GB left on the HD. And the reason why I get suspicious is, that now I have those 2 libraries, each around 157GB. Doesn't make sense to me. Seems like my HD just magically got an extra 100GB , if they in fact are separate libraries.

  • Iphoto isn't importing video's from my iphone 3GS

I've taken pictures and recorded videos on my iphone. When I connect it to my imac G5 running Leopard, iphoto opens up as expected and I'm able to import the contents of my phone. However, only the pictures get imported, not the videos. I'm thinking maybe I have an older version of iphoto (version 4.0.3) that doesn't recognise videos, or I read somewhere that it might be something to do with the fact I'd previously been using an ipod touch and my computer is confusing the two and not looking for videos.
    Over to you.

I found a way to get video's in my Camera Roll on the iPhone 3GS. my phone is NOT jailbreaked !
First i installed the app on my mac called, Disk Aid
(make sure you have latest version so it works with OS 3.0.1 or later)
this app makes it possible to enter your iPhone trough USB.
(you can browse only Media Folder or Disk Aid Folder)
when it does, go to Media Folder>DCIM , the place all your Camera photo's and video's are stored.
now you only have to drag your photo's or video's to that place. Make sure you have them named the same as the other photo's in that map. example: IMG_0009.JPG for video: IMG_0034.MOV
for a video make sure you have them converted right!
(QuickTime Pro or other 3rd party software)
    codecs: H.264, AAC
    colorprofile: SD (6-1-6)
    That's all, have fun!

  • IPhoto won't import my iPhone 4 photos

Hi everyone! I've been looking around, and none of the other related discussions have helped so far.
I'm using a lovely new MacBook Pro retina, and I have an iPhone 4.
When I connect my iPhone to the mac, it will only import my Camera Roll and not all the other photos I have in the photo app, such as Photo Library, Last 12 Months etc.
So I have 400 pictures that are being imported, and atleast 900 which aren't.
    Any ideas?

That is how it works - your camera roll photos are imorted
    Additional Information
You can import only photo and video content taken with the built-in camera or captured on the device. You cannot import photo or video content synced from iTunes.

  • IPhoto won't import my iPhone pictures.

I updated my iPhone to the new iOS 7.0.3 software and now iPhoto '09 won't import my photos from my iPhone.  It keeps saying The file is in an unrecognized format.  How do I fix this?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

I have been trying to sync my photo's from my phone to my macbook.  All of sudden I am unable to import my photos to my macbook.  My macbook discovers the phone and i can see it under devices on the left side of iPhoto, but it will not let me import the photos.  I have tried unplugging and re plugging it to the macbook no help.  I have connect my iphone to a hp notebook and was able to import the photos no problem.  Which makes me feel 100% this issue is in the computer not the phone.  Any chance for a quick fix?

Might find it easier to import photos from your iPhone to your Mac using the Image Capture app located in your Applications folder.
Launch Image Capture then connect the iPhone to a USB port.
The iPhone should show up under Devices top left side of the Image Capture window.
Now look at the bottom left side of the window. Click the: Connecting this (device) opens: pop up menu and select an application to import your photos to.
You can also select a folder to import photos from the Import To: pop up menu.
Select the photos you want to import then click Import or Import All on the right.

  • How do you get OS X to use iPhoto on camera import instead of Photos?

Okay, have iPhoto 9.6.1 and can open iPhoto and all... but whenever I connect my camera to the computer to import photos, it always defaults to Photos.  I want it to default to iPhoto.  Is there a way to get it to stop using Photos by default?  Can't rename or delete the Photos app.  Have no Photos Library so I don't want to have to exit out of Photos and launch iPhoto every time I want to import new photos.  I just want Photos to stay out of the picture entirely.  Let iPhoto do what it used to do and stop trying to hijack everything.

    PMiles:
Hard links are used in Photos to prevent duplication of media. You can verify that yourself by exporting some of your library to a small USB drive, enough to more than half fill the drive, then using Option Open to create a Photos library from the exported one. You'll note everything fits on the small drive. The use of hard links (multiple names for the same file) is what allows Time Machine to keep many many dates worth of backups without duplicating files that have not changed between dates.
    Also, here's a quote from David Pogues's review: https://www.yahoo.com/tech/everything-worth-knowing-about-switching-to-os-x-1101 29491789.html
"What’s wild is that Photos accesses your existing photo library. It doesn’t convert the original photos into some new format. You’ll be able to switch back and forth among the three programs — iPhoto, Aperture, Photos — without having to duplicate any files or use up any more disk space.
There is one big catch, however: Your library splits at the moment you install Photos.
After you first run Photos, when you edit, add, or delete any pictures, those changes show up only in the one program you’re using at the time. New pictures you add to Photos appear only in Photos; new pictures you add to iPhoto appear only in iPhoto, and so on. (You can easily export/import them if necessary.) Same thing with edits you make: They’re saved only in the program where you make those changes."
