Iphoto isn't reading my clicks
I use iphoto 08 to edit and organize my pictures. What I usually do is zoom in on a single picture (not full screen, just zoomed into the max) and arrow threw the pictures and drag the ones I want into albums I've made. One day it stopped letting me click and drag pictures when they were zoomed in to the max. I had to zoom out to multiple pictures on the page to be able to select and drag. I noticed that when I zoomed in initially the photo was selected and I can arrow through at least. If i click on the picture in attempt to drag it, the picture becomes de-selected and I can no longer use the arrow keys to go through the pictures or edit it. Its as if my click does nothing but to de-select the picture I had zoomed in on. When i initially zoom all the buttons on the bottom are colored and I can click on them. when i click on the picture the buttons, rotate, hide, flag, wed gallery and email go gray. If i click the edit button that is still active it takes me to the editing page for the following picture.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
iPhoto '08 does not and has never let you "select" a photo at maximum zoom - you can add your comments to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
No action that requires a photo be selected (including dragging) can be done at maximum zoom
Since the early (I believe the first) release of iPhoto '08 this has been a feature (bug) and the only solution until Apple changes it is to have two or more photos showing when you need to select one
I was able to do it before.

when you see all your photos and you can scroll up and down and if you want to see more of them on the screen you pull the zoom bar out and if you want to see less but in bigger size you pull that bar (at the bottom right of the window) towards the zoomed in picture. If you go all the way it shows just one picture in the biggest size without making it full screen. At that point you can still see your albums on the left of the screen.

I would go through my pictures at that size and drag the ones I wanted into specific albums. I can't drag anymore.
That is how it works now - you can not select it

report your wish for a change to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback - and have at least two photos in the right hand window when yo need to select one - do not go to maximum zoom

When what is clicked?
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?

Garage Band isn't reading my entire iTunes Library, am I missing something in the settings? how do I make entire library available?
In general, whatever you see in your iTunes app (playlists, songs, etc) should also be displayed in GarageBand when you select the Audio tab in the Media Browser.
One hidden feature is that you can have multiple iTunes Libraries (as you can have multiple iPhoto Libraries).
When you click on the iTunes icon in the Dock and immediately after the click hold down the option key, the following window will pop up.
It lets you create a new empty Library or choose to open a different existing Library (that you have created before). Whatever Library you chose the last time you opened iTunes will be the "current" iTunes Library and that is the one that is displayed in GarageBand. (it is a system wide preference). You even can have GarageBand open while switching to a different iTunes Libraries and GarageBand will update the displayed Media Browser content.

So in case you used that feature, you might see a different iTunes content than you expected.
(BTW, this "multiple Libraries" feature comes in also very handy with iPhoto, where you can have separate Libraries for you family, your band, your business, or whatever you want to separate photos. Also good for individual backups)

What is your MacOS X version and your current version of iPhoto?
if you just updated to a newer MacOS X version, for example MacOS X 10.9.x, your version of the iPhoto.app may be no longer compatible and you need to update or upgrade iPhoto to a newer version. Check at the App Store if there is an update for iPhoto. If not, post back with the versions you are having installed. You may need to buy an upgrade.

The photos in your iPhoto library are save, even if you have to upgrade to a newer version, but it is always wise to make a backup before updating or upgrading, just in case. -

TaniaiPhoto is a consumer level photo storage and manipulation program,
It stores it's files in the iPhoto Library, which appears to be a file, but if right clicked on and "show package contents" is actually a folder with it's sensitive guts inside, including a folder called Modified and Originals which you can Finder > File > Duplicate and transfer out.
If you use iPhoto to delete a photo, it IS removed off your hard drive as well but only from the iPhoto Library folder/package, not anywhere else on your drive as iPhoto is supposed to import a copy if say you have some on your desktop already and import them into iPhoto.
So it shouldn't touch anything outside your iPhoto Library. So how you organize photo's outside your iPhoto Library is your business, however don't expect iPhoto to respect your wishes inside the iPhoto Library package, that's really reserved for iPhoto use only. -
I have thumbnails in my iPhoto library but when I click on them the screen is black
I have thumbnails on my iPhoto library but when I click on them the screen is black. I have had my computer in 2-3 times for this issue and the library is corrupt, or so I was told. This doesn't make sense since the photos are obviously in my library some where. Any thoughts what is going on?
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired. -

Iphoto isn't working on my macbook pro
Iphoto isn't working on my macbook pro, it is coming up with the following message:-
Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable.
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iphoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit ipoto, and then reopen it while keeping the optino and command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
Please help. I don't want to delete this app and then have to pay for it again.Restore from your back up is a good place to start.
Failing that:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. -
Able to open cd drive properly (for a change), however iBook isn't reading disks. Doesn't even make the spinning sound like it's trying to read. I just close the drive and nothing happens. Any suggestions??? Thank you.
when you open a Finder window does the CD show up there? If so, can you click on the cd and see a list of track names? Try right clicking on a track and scrolling down to "Open With" and choose "iTunes".
Another thing you might try.. open a finder window. click on View and scroll down to View Options. Make sure "Show Preview Column" is checked.
If the CD does show up in preview and you can see track names when you click on it, you should get a mini player in the preview column. try playing it there.
Try this too. In Finder, on the menu bar click on Finder. Scroll down to Preferences. Click on General. Where it says "Show These Items On Desktop", make sure CD's, etc. is checked. Does your cd show up on your desktop?
Then there's always the old standby.. create another user and then log in as that user. can you play the cd there?
You wrote that you were able to open the cd drive properly "for a change". I take it you've had problems with that. I'm not a mac guru but it sounds like you might be having cd drive problems. I'm not real sure how to fix that.
If none of these suggestions pan out then you might try posting this message in the Mac OSX 10.3 area. The ibook dual usb area doesn't seem to get as much traffic. Or, even though you don't have a Mini, you might try posting it there. Lots of basic OSX discussions there. -
IPhoto isn't deleting "deleted files" from my Mac
Ok, this is a strange one! I have the latest iPhoto version. 9.4.1. In short, iPhoto isn't physically deleting photos from my hard drive when I delete them from iPhoto.
When I take photos, I like to take a bunch of the same photo. I then import it into iPhoto, select the best ones to keep and then delete the ones I don't want. I then empty the trash, of course. For some strange reason, I felt like digging into the iPhoto Library package file tonight. Don't know why. I guess I was just bored and curious as to what was in there. To my surprise, I found a whole heap of photos, even from months ago, in the Masters folder that I had supposedly deleted. At first I thought it was from my Photo Stream. To make sure, I completely turned Photo Stream off from iPhoto. Turns out it wasn't from Photo Stream. So now I have a whole bunch of photos sitting in my iPhoto Library that A) I don't need and B) iPhoto doesn't even look at. Very strange.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going on? Even in my last import, iPhoto didn't delete any of the deleted photos from my hard drive, and my last import was 3 days ago from 9.4.1. Would love to know what's going on. Thanks for reading and hope to get some information on the matter soon.

Is it normal for iPhoto to place a duplicate file in the "Previews" folder if it hasn't been edited?
Usual reason: Your camera has an Auto-Rotate feature. However, the camera does not actually rotate any pixels in the file, but instead flags it with an instruction: "Display me this way". This is a tag in the Exif metadata.
When you import a file with this tag iPhoto creates a modified version. It does this because most of the apps that integrate with it - email clients, word processors etc - simply don't understand this Exif tag. So if you used the shot in a word processing doc, uploaded it to many Web sites etc, the shot would come out sideways.
If you then try to Revert to Original, iPhoto will remove the edited version. However, when it then looks at the Original file again, it sees the flag, and creates a new rotated version. This loop will run as long as you Revert to the Original.
The solution is to either a: turn off the Auto-Rotate feature on your camera or b: rotate the photos prior to importing them to iPhoto.
But really, if you'e concerned about disk space, get a bigger disk. Use an external. Photography uses lots and lots of space.

After I upgraded to Yosemite,iPhoto can't recognize my backup CDs created in iLife 09. The applications install disk won't install iphoto because iphoto 9.5 is already installed..I updated to a SSD and have the original Hard Drive with an updated iphoto which recognized the older CDs(thanks to iphoto expander). I thought that the iphoto that transferred with the new hard drive was the same as what was on the old one. I guess it wasn't. I really need to access my backups. HELP
Later version of iPhoto write to the library on opening, and so cannot open libraries on optical media, as that cannot be written to. Further, optical media is going e way of the floppy disk. Therefore, you need to use a different form of archiving and back up going forward.
To allow iPhoto to open these libraries you need to copy them to your Mac or an attached external disk.
To merge them into an existing Library will require that you use either Aperture (if you have it) or iPhoto Library Manager. -
As i said in my topic My iPhoto isn't working, I open it and a second later its saying hoto quit unexpectedly while using the Flip4Mac WMV Import Plug in. i press ok and try to open it again but than says to repair so i do so, but it doesnt seem to repair its problem. I have tried opening a new photo library through it with the alt/option key but that doesnt seem to work either. i thought it did for a min because it didnt log out but once i pressed open photo stream it seemed to have the same problem. this is what i see

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

i currently use a iMac OS X 10.6.8 and I cannot open iPhoto. Every time I click on iPhoto the coloured wheel comes up and lets me go no further, leaving me with no other option but to force quit the application.
it is showing all my existing photos but will not let me click on any of them, nor will it allow me to import any new photos into iPhoto.
I am really worried that I cannot access all of my photos and even more worried as I need to back them up!!
HELP!!Try repair the Library:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
