Iphoto issues in Yosemite: saving slideshow as a quicktime movie?

I have searched online for help in exporting an iPhoto slideshow, and any results I have gotten, say to click "export" and I should get a menu that gives a choice of file formats to save as, including quicktime.  When I do this, the only choice I get is what resolution do I want : 480p to 1180p. OS X 10.10.2 and iPhoto v. 9.6 .
Any ideas?

You're not having problems with iPhoto.  Those are the only options that iPhoto 9.6 gives us and, obviously, are supported buy Quicktime.  What is the intended use of your exported slideshow file?

  • Drop Saved Slideshows to Photo or Movie Section?

I have 2 saved slideshows I created in iPhoto. What is the best way to use iDVD to get both of them onto one dvd?
I have tried using Magic iDVD and dropped both slideshows into the photo section. I named the dvd, but I cannot see a way to name the two slideshows there. They just show up as Slideshow 1 and Slideshow 2. Is there a way to create names for them?
I tried dragging them into the movie section, and the dvd worked. The only problem is that some of the photos in the slideshow (particularly ones that were cropped) had dark around them, rather than filling the screen. While those were moving across the screen (or in or out using Ken Burns), the edges were shaking quite a bit, and that is very distracting.
So, let's start at the point where I have 2 Saved Slideshows in iPhoto. What is the best way to get them to iDVD, and then the best way to get them onto one dvd with the titles I want, and best quality?

I would reccomend not to partition, there really is no need.
Format as Mac OS Extended; I don't journal but some people do.
You can certainly use the drive as your scratch disk and as storage.
I just create folders for what I need; so a folder for the scratch disk/media drive a project. I make a folder called Video and this is what I set in FCE System Settings. Captured video goes there and it creates the other folders like Render files. I also create separate folders for Music, Pics, Titles whatever else I need for the project. I keep the actual project files on the system drive where FCE lives
On the same HDD you could have other folders for things like music libraries, old project files, any other kind of media you want. Remember, you will always use all the extra space you can muster so by not partioning you are giving yourself the max amount of room possible
I work with large, multiple projects so at the is point I have drives that are strictly for storage but this just a space issue. Starting out, I had multiple folders on the same drive with no issues. Just keep track of where everything is

  • IPhoto 6 Won't Export Slideshow Audio to QuickTime

When "exporting" iPhoto 6 albums to Quicktime the audio selected in iTunes does not export with the selected Album photos. iPhoto "Help" says that iTunes' music selected for the slideshow also will export as the Album's "selected" music. But the slideshow music selection will not export to QuickTime with the iPhoto 6 photo album. Has anyone solved this problem? Thank you very much for any suggestions you may have!

My situation is a bit different. I can not seem to export a "slideshow" without getting that awful sample music.
The process is File>Export>QuickTime. No Make Slideshow and then export.
From the Help files I am supposed to create a slideshow and then select music from iTunes in the SlideShow settings menu. Of course, I've now got a slide show with a huge filesize I didn't want. Delete isn't that big of a step. So now it is back to File>Export>QuickTime and check the box to add selected music.
Of course, there is no way to know if the music has been identified and included in the export. Just trust, I guess. OK, make the export happen.
Now, open the QuickTime movie file I just created. Once again, that awful sample music has been included. I've done this so many times with the same result.
Work around is to export the images as a QuickTime movie with no music. Then open the QuickTime move and add music.
Any idea as to why Apple put that stupid music checkbox in the File>Export menu if it only grabs the awful sample music?

  • Exporting slideshow as a Quicktime movie in iPhoto6?

I just upgraded to version 6, and I'm not seeing a way to export a slideshow in QT format like there was in the other version.
I tried the help section in the drop down menu, but it says the page isn't found. I did a search, but I didn't find anything.
Did Apple remove this option and just not tell anyone?
Please help...I need to export some slideshows as QT movies for some projects I have (it has to be a stand-alone but NOT a DVD).
    Thanks.

    Hi AmyBell,
    It is now under File>export

  • Kens Burns effects not saved in "original" saved slideshows in iphoto 11

i upgraded from iphoto 9 to iphoto 11. I have several saved slideshows. When I opened the saved slideshows in iphoto11 some of the Ken Burns effects were lost (some turned out to be Ken Burns effects on a landscape photos). I tried to add the Ken Burns effects to the landscape photo in the "original theme" and could not do so. The effect would operate until I closed iphoto11 and then would fail to operate when I reopened iphoto and ran the saved slideshow. This also occurred when I made a new saved slideshow. This issue only occurred in landscape photos and did not occur in portrait photos. The Ken Burns effects on a portait photo was updated when going from 9 to 11 and new Ken Burns effects could be added to a new and old saved slideshow.
Of the 12 Themes in saved slideshows only Ken Burns and Original have Ken Burns effects available. The Ken Burns effects are saved when Iphoto 11 is closed for both portrait and landscape photos in the Ken Burns theme and for portrait photos in the Original Theme. Landscape photos did not save in the "original theme"
I wondered if some how my library was corrupted so I went to a MAC store and made saved slideshows using their machine and their iphoto 11. I reproduced these results on an Apple store IMAC. Apple is aware

    SixPack:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As TD pointed out, making a QT movie file of a slideshow involves rendering which is then encoded once again in iDVD. IMO, the best image quality for a slideshow is obtained when you create the slideshow entirely within iDVD. Of course there's no KB effect.
If you create the show in iMovie you can get around the double encoding by closing iMovie once the slideshow is finished. Then open the iMovie project file/package (Option-click on the project file and select Show Package Contents option), find the iDVD folder and drag the .mov file in it into the open iDVD window. This will let iDVD do the rendering of the various transitions and special effects and provide a better final product.
You must remember that iDVD's final resolution is only 640 x 480.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Saved Slideshow won't open in iDVD 6

In iPhoto 6 I made a saved slideshow of 83 of my photos. I then also made another saved slideshow of the exact same photos but clicking that I wanted to repeat the slideshow. I then clicked on each slideshow individually and clicked "send to iDVD". After both slideshows were sent to iDVD and completely "digested" I clicked on the second and sent to Advanced and clicked "loop". I burned the DVD. When viewing on the television it opens the first slideshow, plays it once and goes back to the main theme window like it should. When I click on the second slideshow it won't open at all. It clicks on it like it is going to open but never does. What am I doing wrong? I've burned it several times and the looped slideshow will never open.

    Hi Deborah,
I would go back to iphoto and then export your slideshow as a quicktime file.
Put that file into iDVD by dragging it in and then try burning again.
Alternately you can go to the Advanced menu in iDVD and choose "Delete Encoded Assets" and try again - but I don't think that would apply in this case.
The fact that it does not play at all on the resulting DVD makes me think something is wrong with the original slideshow, or with the copy that made it into iDVD.
    Hope that helps!

  • I have made a slideshow in iphoto can i email the slideshow?

I have made a slideshow in iPhoto can I email the slideshow? Or do half to do something else to e-mail after I made a slideshow in IPhoto?

You can't email a slideshow in an editable format. You will  need to export it from iPhoto (file -> Export) and that will create a QuickTime Movie from it. You may - depending on the size of the file - be able to mail that.
    Regards

  • Cannot export quicktime movie from iPhoto

    latest imac (brand new)
    iphoto slideshow...
when i try to export a slideshow as a quicktime movie...it renders the quicktime movie...then when it goes into the "saving" phase...it just keeps saving and never ends...
but it will let me save a high quality mp4 movie...
it seems to be something with the quicktime format
(i posted to the iphoto forum...no replies...it seems to relate the quicktime format...so thought maybe someone here could help)

I had the same problem and figured it out. I had a FLA from the office and took it home to work on. At the office I was exporting to a folder on the staging server and had my SWF and HTML Publish settings set up that way. At home I tried to export the same FLA to quicktime (along came the aforementioned error). I made a folder on my local drive, set my publish settings for my SWF and HTML to export there, published, and low and behold, I was able to export to Quicktime. Problem solved.

  • Creating Apple TV photo slideshow in Windows/Converting .mov to Apple TV

I have a newly purchased 160 GB Apple TV and am having some difficulty creating a slideshow. Ideally, Apple would offer iPhoto for Windows or I would own a Mac, but neither is currently true.
So, what is the best/easiest/cheapest way to create an iPhoto-esque slideshow in Windows XP? (transitions and audio track)
In my initial attempts to accomplish this task, I have created a slideshow using QuickTime. I opened a music file in QuickTime, then opened an Image Sequence in QuickTime, then copied the image sequence and Added and Scaled to the audio track. Finally, I saved this "slideshow" as a QuickTime movie (.mov). This isn't ideal, because there are no transitions and if the photos aren't all landscape it's troublesome. Nonetheless, I tried to open this QuickTime Movie then use the Export to Apple TV conversion process. Unfortunately, QuickTime basically just freezes when I try this. The progress bar never moves from 0%. Any advice here?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The simplest way to make a slideshow without adobe photo elements is simply to put collections of photos into folders and sync them to the tv. tv will allow you to add transitions and add a soundtrack from any music you also have synced. In the current version of tv the ending of the slideshow is a little abrupt but I'm sure it will improve in future versions.
I can't think why QT won't convert your QT (slideshow) movies, perhaps you can tell us a little about the movie. Open in QT, open the movie info window and post back the info you find there.

  • IPhoto '11 Saved Slideshow not saving settings for individual slides

Please, need help in iPhoto '11 with Saved Slideshows. I will try rephrasing my question as I received no answers when I posted yesterday. I create my Saved Slideshow by choosing File>New>Slideshow. It then shows up at the bottom of my Source List under Slideshows. I am trying to have individual settings for each slide: timing, transition, and Ken Burns effect. I check each box in the "This Slide" menu and type in what I want. When I exit the Saved Slideshow the first two settings are saved and as I left them, but the KB box is no longer checked. It works fine when I click "Preview." I have carefully read all the forum discussions dating back to last fall and see that I am not the only one with the problem. Like others I noticed that the KB effect won't "stick" only on certain slides, mostly Landscape images. KB settings for Portrait images seem to "hold." I'm not a novice in creating Saved Slideshows. I've done this in iPhoto '08 with no problem at all. I reported this to Apple as a possible bug. I feel like there is now no way I can make the slideshow I want to burn to a DVD to share with family and view on a TV. As far as I can tell you can't do KB effects for individual slides in the latest version of iDVD without having made a Saved Slideshow in iPhoto first. Can anyone help me? I am so frustrated.

I am 99% sure that this has something to do with how NEF files work. If I understand them correctly, the original raw data is stored in one portion of the file and then versions of the file are stored within it (these are the 'versions' that you can make in NX2).  The versions are just whatever mathematical transformations are applied to the raw data to get the version of the image that you want to see.  It is a brilliant way to store information and many versions of photos (different sizes of crops, b/w, colour, sepia, etc...) in their highest possible resolution without taking up an inordinate amount of disk space.  The raw data are huge, but each version only adds a tiny bit to the size.
The problem with iPhoto is that it can only see the raw data - not the metadata containing all of the transformations to get the edited version of the photo. This means that if you load the photos  into the iphoto library as nef files and then edit them with an external editor (i.e. NX2), the files will be edited, and when you open them again in NX2 from iPhoto, then you'll see the edits, but the edited version will not be visible in iPhoto. If you work with NX2 and iPhoto (as I do), you basically need to save your edited versions of files as .jpg or .tiff and then re-import them into iPhoto.  It is a bit of a pain, but I am sure that it could be fixed in a future version of iPhoto.
    Cheers.

  • PH2423 How do you get text pages in a project to a saved slideshow?

Hi Peeps,  My project is a book which has photos AND text pages. I can get the photos to the saved slide show but not the text pages.  Can someone advise?

This is a book created in iPhoto, right?  If so then do the following:
1 - while in the book mode type Command +P to start the print process.
2  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
Note:  If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. Then you can use the entire book as the slideshow or just those pages that are text.
This process was used to create this iWeb slideshow: iPhoto Book as an iWeb Slideshow

This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled... this comes up when I go to update Iphoto after installing Yosemite... how do I fix this?

I have resolved this issue with the apple chat support by going to the "purchases" tab in the app store - where there was a message that I had to accept updates for the apps that wouldn't update.  Once I did this, signing in for each of them, they all updated just fine.

  • Since the Maverick update, iPhoto 11 export of a slideshow has stopped working.  Any suggestions?

Since the Maverick update, iPhoto 11 exporting of a slideshow no longer works. It did prior to the update.  The more flexible drop down menu when selecting Export has been replaced by 3 choices;  480p, 720, and 1080p.  Any suggestions?

Here are some screenshots showing the export process in the slideshow.
This shows the beginning screen to export the slideshow.
Shows the screen for the file location to be stored.
    Shows the export has begun.
    Shows the export has started....
Show the export still being saved.  About half way there....
This image shows the slideshows being saved to the iTunes library before the Maverick update.  I had 3 decent size videos from the slideshows that played on Apple TV.  None of the exports after Maverick made it to iTunes.  They show up in the iPhoto slideshow folder as a file, but with nothing in them.
Hope this helps explain what I have done and the comparitves.  Any suggestions?
