IPhoto Issues with .CR2

Hi there.
I shoot with a Canon 7D and I shoot in RAW. I've been shooting in RAW with this camera and importing with iPhoto for months already and had no issues. I have all the latest software and I never had any issues after updating. iPhoto imported half of the images from my dslr and skipped over the rest because they "aren't in a recognizable format".
This may sound naive but its almost like iPhoto just decided that it doesn't feel like importing.
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated as I've searched the internet for a whole day now trying to find a solution but I haven't found one.
Many thanks
@riverleask

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Post back with the result.

  • Import issue with CR2 file, Lightroom 5.3 & OS X Mavericks

    Hi there,
I really hope someone can help. I've just switched laptops and installed LR 5.3 on to OS X Mavericks. Upon import I get an error message saying that the CR2 files are unreadable. So I took the same card and tried to import them on the old cranky laptop that is running Lightroom 5.2 and on OS X Mountain Lion and it imported without a problem (12 photographs took a long time but they were all readable and in LR) This is crazy frustrating. Does anyone know of a way around it? Have I done something wrong? The camera is a Canon 6D and Ive had no issues prior to this with Lightroom 5 on the old lap top.
    Thank you!!

    Kim,
When LR tells you the file cannot be read, what it really means is that the file cannot be written to the folder that you specified for your Copy or Move operation on import. (Yeah, it's a stupid message.)
Generally, this means that the folder you're writing to is set so that your user ID doesn't have permission to write there.
Try repairing permissions and make sure you have write access.

  • IPhoto - issues with export photos

I have recently added a QNAP NAS to my home network and am playing with the TWONKY / DLNA Media Server.
Would like to put a copy of all of my photos onto the NAS so that I can share them from the server to DLNA apps
I am trying to use "File / Export" from iPhoto to send the whole library to the NAS
I have tried twice now and each time I get as far as about 3,500 photos when the following happens:
I have over 28K photos in my library
Is there an easier way to share them to the NAS than the way I am trying and why am I getting these fails ?

The "Unable to create" error message is very typical for a problem caused by incompatible file systems.  Your NAS will have a filesystem that is different from MacOS Extended (Journaled). I that case filenames and folder names, that are acceptable on your Mac may be ambiguous and cause conflicts on the NAS.
I get as far as about 3,500 photos
Try to find out, what the next file or folder would have been, that stopped the export. Look at the folders, that have been created correctly, and than look in the iPhoto library, to see the next file or folder, that should have been created. Is there something unusual about the filename or folder name? Ethnic characters? A very long file name? Ctrl characters in the name? If you can identify the problematic item, try to skip it and continue exporting with the next items.
Or use a different naming scheme for the export - use a custom name instead of "event name" and "original filename".

  • IMessage and iPhoto Issues with Upgrade

    Hi,
I've just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard and then Mountain Lion. All thats gone fine, I've put more RAM in and the upgrades have all gone smoothly. However I'm having two difficulties that I just can't seem to work out where I'm going wrong.
Firstly I want to use the contacts on my iPhone 5 for my iMac to use iMessage. It's all set up, however not all my contacts have been synced from my iPhone, only certain ones? and some just say the mobile number on my iMac and not the contacts name?
Secondly, I had iPhoto etc on my iMac when I bought it with Leopard operating system, now I've upgraded I've lost this, how do I go about getting it back? I've tried to put the original disks that my iMac came with in but I can't seem to load just the software back on. I know with newer Macs you can now download through the app store, but I have a 2007 iMac so don't have iPhoto on my account.
I'd appreciate any advice on this as I can't seem to find anything online thats helped so far. Thanks!

    Hi,
If you use an iCloud Apple ID then the Contacts list should sync across all devices.
I would check the iPhone has the Name of the contact as well as the Number.
At first thought I would have suggested a Time Machine restore of the missing app.
However many Apple Apps can get their Updates when the OS is updated.
My iPhoto version is version 9.4.1
If you only have access to an much earlier version it may not work in Mountain Lion to then get updates for it.

  • IPhoto issue with slow response or hanging on startup

When I attempt to start iPhoto the little gear in the middle of the screen starts spinning and never stops!  I cannot get it to actually start up.  Tried rebooting, fixing permissions on the disc and forcing it to quit...  Not sure what to do!  Please help.  My wife and I are very very frustrated with this app!
    -Mike

What version of iPhoto are you running and what system? As a test  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?  Have you rebooted recently?

  • IPhoto issue with ML 10.8.4

After updating to OS10.8.4 I can no longer view an individual photos within "info and edit".
I know the image is there because Face ID is showing as "is this So and So?"
So, for some strange reason, the image itself is invisible.

I tend to think it is iPhoto since my iPhoto works.
You might want to try posting in the iPhoto community.
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto
    Quit the application.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Issues with NAS, iPhoto, RAW file format, AEBSn, Leopard

I think I've isolated it down to a networking stack issue with Leopard, but I was hoping I could get some more thoughts/advice. I don't want to downgrade to Tiger, but I may need to! Either that or host my iPhoto library locally.
    Scenario:
My iPhoto library was messed up. Some albums were missing and it couldn't seem to find them. Rebuilding my library was giving me errors. So, I decided to start fresh. I created a new library and began importing files. I noticed that my RAW (.CR2) files were showing glitches in them! These were major glitches, like big squares of blue or yellow and distorted pictures. I checked the original pictures, those were fine. I checked the pictures in my new iPhoto library, those files are corrupted! Not the thumbnails, but the files themselves. I opened the file in Photoshop to verify. Yup, busted.
    Attempted Solution:
I tried downgrading to iPhoto 7.0 from 7.1.1, thinking that that might be the problem. Still having issues with the RAW files. Do I need to downgrade to iPhoto 6? I can't believe that's the answer. Even in iPhoto 7.0, the problem persists.
Now here's the interesting thing: not all files are broken. Some files work, others don't. Some files are imported without glitches some of the time; reimporting them results in a glitch. That suggests to me that it's a networking problem.
I'm using 802.11n to an AEBSn2 (gigabit), which has a ReadyNAS NV connected to it by gigabit ethernet. I don't think it's a hardware network thing since everything seemed to work in Tiger.. I think it's a way that Leopard handles the networking stack. Didn't they revise the underlying network stuff for Leopard?
    Help!

Are you able to switch to 11g? I heard that helps for some people. I haven't tried it yet. Right now, I have about 7500 photos, so I want to copy everything and back it up. Once I get it backed up, I'm going to try other solutions, but it may be a few days before I get anything tested.

  • Issue with Photostream in iPhoto 11

Dear forum members, I'm having a strange issue with iCloud's Photostream in iPhoto 11. The new photos added from my iPhone and iMac appear in my MacBook's Photostream (MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012, running OSX 10.8.2), but everytime I try to edit or view a photo in my library, iPhoto simply cannot find the file (autoimport is activated). Do you have a clue about what's happening? Thank you very much for the attention.

What version of iPhoto? there are multiple versions of iPhoto '11 and olders ones do not support PS or shared PS
If you have teh correct version on your MB you can try resetting PS - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4890?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Any suggestions on how to fix installation issues with iPhoto & iMovie on used Mac mini?

I bought a used, mid 2011, mac min.  The selller deauthorized all his applications and resotred it to factory settings for me.  When I received it, I added myself as an administrator and deleted the dummy user the seller had created after restoring the OS.  The first thing I wanted to do was install applications I already have on my iMac (also running OSX Lion).  It would not install iPhoto or iMovie.  It said these applications were assigned to a different apple id, the previous owner.  I decided to erase the hard drive and reinstall Lion myself.  I ran into some snags (due to my internet connection) and had to use recovery thumb drive, but it worked.
I successfully re-installed Lion on the newly formatted hard drive.
I still cannot install iPhoto and iMovie.  It just give me an error now.  Couriously, it installed Garage Band just fine.  I haven't had any other issues with other applications I purchased on my other iMac.
Anyone have any suggestions, besides purchasing iPhoto and iMovie on the mac mini?

Ethernet cord connected to the router solved it.  This is exactly what I had to do when I reinstalled the operating system.  For some reason my wireless internet is highly inreliable.  It drops out constantly.  I've always had my iMac hard wired to the router, but I'll have to figure out a fix for this Mac mini.  I can't have a 30ft ethernet cord running through the middle of my basement.  Thanks.

  • OS X LION Issues with Full-Screen; iPhoto, Image Capture & Mail

    Hello,
I'm experiencing un-Apple-like issues (bugs) with Lion in Full-Screen mode.
For example - iPhoto doesn't seem to like Full-Screen mode. If iPhoto is open and I connect a camera, for which I prefer Image Capture to retrieve my pics... Image Capture opens 'behind' the full-screen iPhoto, but I can't get to it. Image Capture shows as open on the menu bar in iPhoto's full-screen mode. If I go to the desktop (where it should be opening) Image Capture isn't 'on top' and clicking it takes me back to iPhoto full-screen
Similarly, if I get mail and return to the desktop (the only way to see the dock) and I click on the 'Mail' app icon - I am catapulted into Image Capture... or iPhoto. Returning to the Desktop to click the Mail icon from the dock... takes me to Image Capture... or iPhoto. The 3rd try takes me to the Mail.app which is usually always open and in full-screen mode.
While I'm complaining about bugs, I'd like to mention that I am fully dismayed by the loss of control in full-screen mode when using apps such as Mail or iPhoto. The Mail app opens an email to edit (such as a reply) but you can't access any other mail docs to 'cut and paste' info from. I can only click SEND or CANCEL.
What if I don't want to CANCEL? I just want to go to another email and cut a piece to paste.. I have to exit full-screen mode which allows me to open two email documents at once, then cut and paste. Essentially Mail in Full-Screen is only a reader... not a work area. I can only access the document I have open, since it greys out the Message Viewer. You can't click on the message viewer nor access any of the features of Mail.app. You can only write your email and either Cancel or Send. Where is the 'hold on a second while I go cut and paste'? I don't want to cancel.
Can't seem to use Safari since I'm constantly three-finger swiping it away. My cursor hovers over a text field and suddenly it's zooming in and locks text input. I have to iPhone-like swipe to expand to exit this inadvertent partial (very slight) zoom. Sometimes the zoom is so partial that I can't figure out what's going on until I just exit full-screen mode, close the window and start over.
Seems like I'm starting over and over and over... just to do simple things. Inadvertent zooming, inadvertent 3-finger returning to Desktop, inadvertent changing apps... ugh.
I'm willing to let go of the old and embrace the new future but so far it's been pretty uncomfortable for me to constantly monitor my overly sensitive trackpad gesturing combined with constant bugs and glitches. I'll save complaining about iPhoto's over-simplification (apparently for dummies) like the new Edit menu, Export menu, etc.. since it's more iLife than Lion related. Rate Lion: 2 out of 5 stars for ease of use & features complicated by unrefined software issues.

I've tried follwoing these instructions but I have an issue with
    # Create snort user. The intention is to let user snort have access only to the snort database.
    $ sudo createuser -U _postgres -P snort
    Password:
    Enter password for new role:
    Enter it again:
Shall the new role be a superuser? (y/n) n
Shall the new role be allowed to create databases? (y/n) n
Shall the new role be allowed to create more new roles? (y/n) n
It keeps telling me "could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server: No such file or directory"
I'm running OSX Mountain Lion, and have verified using serveradmin status postgres that it is up and running.

  • .Issue with creating a photo book in Iphoto error message states some frames are missing images, but I've checked each one and from I can see they are all filled in. It won't let my buy the book though

Having an Issue with Creating a photo Book in Iphoto. I continue to get an error message when clicking on "Buy Book" The error indicates that I'm missing a frame or frames from the book. I've checked this many times and cannot locate the issue. The book appears to be complete from my perspective. What can I do now? I worked very hard on this and would hate to lose it all.

How did you check the book? Did you preview it?
    See:
iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture
    Is that the message?
"your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can buy this book."
The most common reason for this error is, that you have used a page layout that needs a background photo and you have not yet added the backdrop. Then the book is still showing some default grayscale image.
Check, if one of your page layouts is using this background:
Then you need to add a photo to the background of the page.

  • Duplication Issues with Photo Sync via iTunes/iPhoto and Photo Stream/iCloud (Detailed Scenario Given)

    Hi Everyone,
I'd like to share an issue I am having with photo syncing between my iDevices.
Here is how I USED to sync my Photos between my iDevices (no issues with photo duplication)
Note: In this scenario, I use iTunes and iPhoto on my Mac. iCloud and Photo stream have NOT been activated in this case.
    1. Take photos via iPhone that saves in Camera Roll
    2. After a month or so, I will connect my iPhone to my Mac.
    3. Import my Photos in iPhoto and arrange  Events and Photos in monthly sections and add some of them in a separate Albums (ex. Written Notes Photos) for easy access.
    4. Once the import is done, iPhoto prompts an option to delete photos in my Camera Roll which I do as I like to start a fresh month with empty Camera Roll in my iPhone.
    5. In order to access the Photos I have imported in iPhoto in my iPhone, I go to iTunes and sync all my photos to my iPhone. This syncs my events, photos, faces, albums as they have been arranged in iPhoto in my Mac. (I cant delete them in my iPhone once they are synced. I have to delete in my iPhoto and sync again to have similar setup in my iPhone which isn't a problem).
NOW I decided I don't want to manually go through all this process and went on to enable the Photo Stream ON in my iPhone and iPhoto with iCloud.
THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM ENSUES.
    1. I  Take photos with my iPhone that saves in Camera Roll
    2. This automatically syncs with my Mac due to Photo Stream which a really convenient.
    3. It syncs automatically to Photo Stream, Events, Photos, Faces section in the iPhoto and I put put some of them (notes) in a separate album.
    THE PROBLEM:
The Photos does not show up in the Album, Events and Photos Folder in my iPhone. They are only shown in Camera Roll. So I thought to sync using iTunes so the new Photos will be arranged in their appropriate folder like it used to with my prior process of syncing. This worked, HOWEVER the photos in my iPhone started showing DUPLICATES! Apparently, one comes from Photo Stream (which, if I delete on my phone also deletes in all my iDevices) and the other duplicate is from the iTunes sync (this sets up my photos as arranged in iPhoto which is what i WANT to happen as Photo Stream does not sync them accordingly).
SOLUTION I AM IN SEARCH FOR:
I want to be able to take photos with my iPhone that automatically syncs in iCloud AND iPHOTO AS ARRANGED IN MY MAC (Albums, Events etc) WITHOUT PROBLEM OF PHOTO DUPLICATES.

Other folks have resolved similar issues by trashing  the iPod Photo Cache.

    TD

  • Strange Issues with Apple TV & Apple iPhone when using iPhoto?

Im not sure if this is the right forum but since iPhoto seems to be the only missing link to my problem - I hope someone can help me out.
First let me explain my situation in great detail so I dont steer anyone in the wrong direction.
Of course everything works perfect if you only use the internal Hard Drive in my iMac. In other words, using iPhoto to create albums and slideshows worked flawless. Apple TV & Apple iPhone synced what I needed perfectly.
I then decided to get a 500G External Hard Drive to hold all my pictures and music. Everything changed!!
I followed the instructions on Apple's Support Web Documents. It appears that everything has moved over nice and smooth. I say that because when I open the Macintosh HD (OEM Internal) there are no movies or photos to be found on that drive any more.
It also appears that iPhoto has no issues itself. In other words, it finds all my photos (on the external 500G drive) displays them perfectly. I can create albums and slide shows as well.
The problem comes from Apple TV and Apple iPhone NOT seeing any more photos or slide shows. I figured that I must have to "point" Apple TV & iPhone (which in reality is iTunes) to a "new" location since its all been moved from the OEM Internal HD.
Now in iTunes, in the "photos" tab, I choose a new folder (instead of iPhoto) and browse the the External 500G HD, select the "iPhoto Library" folder and then iTunes now can see all 2,281 photos!!
Problem is that I dont want to sync ALL my photos just some of the Albums I created. iTunes doesn't see ANY albums or slideshows.
Since I created those albums before I moved the library - I figured I might have to delete all the albums/slide shows and make new ones while the data is all on the External 500G HD.
No such luck. Its like any albums I now create work fine INSIDE iPhoto but Apple TV and iPhone just see ALL my photos and NOT any albums I create inside iPhoto.
Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?
The file structure in the iPhoto Library folder is very confusing. I have a total of 2,281 photos. 1,028 of them are in a folder called "Data" & the other 1,028 photos are in a folder called "Original". Both folders have a bunch of years inside them with my photos scattered all over the place.
I dont see my "Albums" anywhere inside these folders.
Now if I create my own folder inside the "iPhoto Library" folder - iTunes and iPhone will pick up on that folder I created!!
In essence, I have to open up iPhoto - then drag photos to my "new folder" I created in order for iTunes to see them.
Im I on the right track here? I didnt have to do any of this when I just used my Internal OEM HD.
    Any suggestions or comments?
    Thanks for your help.
    John

Do you have ignore ownership selected for the external drive like this.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Wanting to go "back in time" due to issue with iphoto 8.03

Everything was great on Sat. before I downloaded iphoto 8.03. Instead of jumping through hoops to try to fix my issues, can't I simply go back using Time Machine to iphoto 8.02? I've made minor changes otherwise to my mac since Sat. that I can duplicate no prob.
Can I revert back to my machine the way it was Friday or the time of my last back up?
    Thanks!

tamara, actually, the following would be even better than trying to restore the application from a Time Machine backup. Reinstall, iPhoto 8.0 from your original iLife `09 DVD, then update the application to the update just prior to the one you began having issues with.
First, open the Applications folder and drag iPhoto to the Trash.
Now insert the iLife `09 DVD and launch the installer.
    Accept the license agreement.
When you get to "Installation Type" click the "Customize" button on the left.
If you removed iPhoto as described earlier then there should be a check mark beside iPhoto.
    Click "Install".
When the installation is complete go to the Apple Support website and download the iPhoto 8.0.2 Update (I believe it was 8.0.3 that you had trouble with?):
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/iPhoto8_0_2Update
    Install the update.
Now your iPhoto application is back to the version it was before the 8.0.3 update. However, your photo library was likely converted when you applied the 8.0.3 update. As a result iPhoto 8.0.2 will alert you that the photo library is not compatible with this version of iPhoto.
To fix this, hold down the Option & CMD keys and launch iPhoto.
A window will appear giving you various rebuilding options.
Place a check mark beside "Rebuild the iPhoto Library from automatic backup".
    Click "Rebuild".
This will convert the library back to a version compatible with 8.0.2.
Let us know if this resolved your issue. Cheers!

  • Screen/Display Issues with Aperture 3.6 & iPhoto 9.6 on Yosemite

When I open Aperture or iPhoto, my screen goes all wonky. I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro with 8 GB Ram with the Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB. What is it doing this? How can I fix it?

    Hello there, tehat17.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great recommendations for troubleshooting issues with the display on your MacBook Pro:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    Start with these:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
If you tried all of these steps for your display and the video issues persist, contact Apple technical supportor take your Apple computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
