IPhoto & iWeb

Howdy,
I have created an album in iPhoto, dragged photos (161 images) into it directly from my events (so no tweaking etc), and then have dragged that album into a web page in iWeb.
Now the problem I have is that I obviously want to optimise my website for space and performance reasons, but what I have just done has resulted in a 380mb gallery in iWeb. Is there a way of "batch optimising" all images in the iWeb page / site before uploading it ?
I want to tackle the issue of large pics in iWeb rather than an image prog.
Quick help much appreciated.

Forget the notion that you can do everything in iWeb. It's not a Swiss armyknife.
So prepare you pictures beforehand in another app.
1) In the inspector you can set the size of the published images in a photoalbum.
2) Or export the picture from iPhoto to a folder and use these exported pictures.
Most solutions are right in front of you. You only have to see them.

  • IPhoto/iWeb - am I an idiot or does this really stink this bad?

I have been using .Mac with iPhoto for a while now publishing photos to .Mac for my family to view. This use to be a wonderfully simply procedure, all integrated in iPhoto.
Now iPhoto launches iWeb for this task and I have a big issue with what happens -- iWeb uploads all the photos for all my pages every time I want to add one new page. Is this the way it's suppose to happen? Right now, I'm waiting for iWeb to finish uploading over 100 photos spread over 8 pages. It's actually uploading every page every time I add a new page. Am I an idiot and I'm missing something?
Also, iWeb should give you a clear indication that it's uploading, as in a dialog with a status.
Thanks to everyone who answers any of my questions!

    Hello Scott,
I think I know what is going on here. Usually iWeb does not upload EVERY page if only something small has changed. But in your case, I bet everytime you add a page you display a new navigation menu link for the new page, right? So now you have 8 items in the navigation menu...one for each page, right? Well, what is happening here is that when you add an item to the navigation menu, you are in effect changing EVERY page because EVERY page has that darned navigation menu. Let me konw if I am way off base for you.
Let me suggest a little bit more elegant method of doing your photo pages in iWeb. Unfortunately, this may require you to revamp your whole site, but I think the results are a lot better and allow for future expandability. And it only puts a single link up on your navigation menu...call it "The Photo Gallery" or something catchy like that...."Gallery" is even better...simpler... Here's the method...
Assuming that you keep your photos organized in albums in iPhoto, here is a lovely way to AUTOMATICALLY generate photo pages AND make a nice index page that leads to all your present and future photo galleries...
Create a living, growing photo gallery
I hope you find this helpful. I think it is a particularly elegant and automatic way of doing photo galleries via iPhoto and iWeb, especially now that there is no Homepages option in the new iPhoto. iWeb is the future.

  • Duplicate user account OR migrate iPhoto/iWeb between users

I've seen this question asked several times before, but have not seen an answer!
So, with as many details as I can muster:
I have, on my computer, 4 user accounts: my admin account, my user account, my boyfriend's user account, and our business account... All separate, keeps things nice and tidy (sort of!).
I have a new and separate project that I'm starting to work on which involves lots of images, and new websites, and new and different stuff that's necessary for the project, but just clutter in any of the other accounts.
Because this project started out as something my man wanted to play around with, all of the beginnings of this are in his iPhoto and his iWeb, and they're well organized.  I've not had luck so far moving the iPhoto and iWeb libraries to a new/blank user and maintaining the organization that I've spent time and attention making right.
He's not so great with technology, and gets very frustrated (and unproductive!) when anything on the computer doesn't work exactly like he expects it to. (When Lion came out and the scrolling went "the wrong direction" he was afraid to use the computer at all for a week, because "everything changed, I don't even know how to use it anymore" that's between us though, personal issure ). So I'd like to keep the user experience the same for him.   I'd like to duplicate his settings, preferences, etc. into a new user for him, and take over his current account to isolate this project.
    So, in summary:
I want to create a new account with the same user experience  as a current  account without having to find and reset all of his settings.
    OR
I want an exact copy of the iPhoto and iWeb from this user account to another one, on the same machine.
    I am currently running OSX 10.7.2, iPhoto '11 9.2.1 and iWeb 3.0.4
Thanks in advance for any help!

That's easy, if you have Time Machine or "bootable clone" backups. (If you don't, you should anyway.  Post back if you need info on them.)
Use Migration Assistant to transfer just that user account from the backups; it will put up a screen saying it can't transfer it under the same name as the existing account, and allowing you to rename it.
Other than having a different name, the transferred account will be identical to the existing one.  Then you can modifiy them separately as necessary.
EDIT:  see Using Migration Assistant on Lion for detailed instructions.  Be sure to un-check the boxes for eveything except that one user account.

  • Slide Shows in iLife, iPhoto, iWeb  '08 and Web Gallery

I have iLife '08 abd thus iWeb '08 and developed my website in 2006 using iWeb '06. I also belong to .Mac and therefore have access to that Web Gallery or .Mac Gallery (unsure which name it has). I like the newer slide shows/carousels that are newly available and would like to know whether I can make such slide shows and place such slide shows in my iWeb website.
I realize that another alternative is to make a slide show and put it in the Web Gallery and access it in my website via a URL pointing to the slidehow.
Is it true that ALL OF THE VARIATIONS OF SLIDE SHOWS are created in iPhoto '08? If so, then I guess if I make the slideshows there, I can decide where I want to place them (in my website or in Web Gallery).

I have found an answer thanks to jaxjason in this post:

Go to web gallery, find out the album ID that you need to delete.
    iDisk -> Web -> Sites -> _gallery
Delete the album ID of the albums that arn't in iphoto.
    Then resync the albums missing.

  • Photos in iPhoto / iWeb

If I've used a photo in iWeb from iPhoto and then delete the photo from iPhoto, does the photo remain in iWeb or does it become a blank space?

iWeb will "remember" it. The info is stored in the domain.sites2 file.

  • Photoshop edited images move to iPhoto & iWeb

I plan to redesign my web site and publish in iWeb. Previously, my web site was developed with FrontPage and hosted on an Earthlink server. My photo images were edited in Photoshop. I assume I will need to import my photos into iPhoto before designing my web site in iWeb. Any advice on photo size, resolution, and file type before I import my photos into iPhoto?

I suspect you will get other responses, but if you haven't seen this it's from the Iweb Help and may be of interest.
    good luck
Resampling (or downsampling) is a method of reducing a photo’s file size. Downsampling helps your website publish faster and helps photos display and download faster for your visitors.
Photos you add to a Photos template are imported full size and downsampled automatically when you publish.
For very large, high-quality RAW and JPG images, you can choose iWeb > Preferences and select “Optimize images on import.” This setting reduces the size of imported images by up to 60 percent so they don’t take up as much space in your Domain file.

  • Best workflow for Photo Album site - Aperture-iPhoto-iWeb??

*_I posted this on iWeb board, but perhaps this is a more appropriate audience*._
I am trying to find the best way to get Pics online. I shoot RAW and post-process in Aperture. Have used:
Aperture web gallery - easy workflow, very poor user interface, good image resolution
iphoto - extra work to get from Aperture library, nice design but very very slow loading of pics!!, not happy with image resolution
iweb - nice interface, fast, but not happy with image resolution.
My goal is a nice user interface for viewing pics in albums, fast, but with GOOD image quality. Is there a way to adjust image resolution in iWEB? Seems like the default is Preview image quality, despite using full resolution JPEG exported from Aperture. It is somewhat disappointing to work so hard in Aperture on adjustments, but then view low res images on website.
    Any Suggestions?

When you say "low res images on website" do you mean those created by Aperture? It is possible to duplicate one of the default web gallery formats in Aperture, and then modify it so that the photos output are larger e.g. 950pixels wide instead of 800. I've done that with the Stock Black format - I now have a Stock Black Large which is similar on the thumbnails screen, but much larger when people click through to the larger image.
I think to do it you have to find the folder containing the web presets and make a copy of one of them.
Its fiddly but possible to do. Hopefully they'll improve this in a future release

  • IPhoto & iWeb 08 on G3

Although iLife 06 said I couldn't load iPhoto 06 and iWeb 06 on my G3 iBook, I was able to do it. I had no need for iMovie or Garage Band, both of which are RAM eaters. Could not, however, load these apps in 08 versions. Is there a workaround to pull this off?

    Not that I'm aware off.
There's one to get the package installed on G4's- Google some appropriate words - but I've no idea if it work for G3's.
Even if there are hacks out there, it'd be quite possible that any software updates would cripple the install on older machines.
I've not been a Mac user that long, but am pretty unimpressed that Apple cripple software from installing on older machines - it may work very poorly but it's for the user to decide if that's good enough or to take a gamble if their machine is below recommended specs.

  • IPhoto, iWeb & shared library

    Hi,
Is it possible to have a (home) network with a multi & full accessed read/write iPhoto library?
I've an old PowerPC MacMini primarily used (like a NAS) as a central storage device. It contains my music, photo libraries etc which are further stored on a connected Iomega 300G Hard Disk. My photo library runs under iPhoto 5.0.4.
My other (and primary) machine is my laptop, MacBook Pro, where I want to do all my work - such as publishing photos, maintaining web-site. I don't want to store my music/photos on any of my laptops, I want them centralised.
The first problem I have is that I cannot export to iWeb on my MBP when I use my shared library (with iPhoto 6.0.6). The option is greyed out - presumably standard for shared libraries.
The second problem is that I will get another laptop soon (MacBook) and would like to be able to add photos to my library from any of my Macs. I don't want to have to unplug my Iomega hard disk and attach it to whatever Mac I am using.
Is it possible to overcome these limitations?
I tried sharing my MacMini and changing my MBP iPhoto library to the mount point - but using afp the external 'Volumes' are not shown. So I tried using Samba - but it doesn't always show up, doesn't auto-mount, and iPhoto on the MBP complained that it didn't have write-access.
In the Mac world, there must be an easier way?
    TIA

If I understand correctly, you have two computers. One of them has an external hard drive connected to it and you want to know how to make that available to another computer, correct?
If this is the scenario, for ease of reference, let's name the computers. We'll call the computer with the external hard drive Scrooge. The one that wants access to the hard drive we'll call Cratchet. One way to give Cratchet access to Scrooge's hard drive is through firewire. Assuming that both have an available firewire port, you can do the following:
(This process may not be perfect, since I am not set up to test it at the moment, but...)
    1. Plug them in through firewire (both hot)--do NOT put one in transfer mode.
    2. On Scrooge, go to the sharing portion of the system preferences and activate:
    a. personal filesharing
    b. remote login
    3. On Cratchet, go to the network portion of the system preferences and:
    a. Select "Built-in FileWire" from the "Show" pull-down menu.
    b. Under the TCP/IP setting, select "Using DHCP"
    c. Push the button "Configure IPv6.."
Unless I am mistaken, this should prepare Cratchet to see Scrooge.
    4. Now Cratchet should be able to connect to Scrooge using the "Connect to server" command in the Finder menus as normal. When you do connect, you will have to log on. When it prompts you for what disk to mount, simply select the hard drive that you want to work on.
    5. Once you have mounted the desired hard drive, you can save yourself time in the future by ctrl-clicking the hard drive's icon on the desktop and making an alias of it. Then in the future, you can (after plugging-in the firewire) double click on this alias and enter your password to access it.
PS: If desired, you can also tell Scrooge to share his internet connection with the firewire connected computer (if relevant) in his network preferences--kind of cool, huh?
    I hope this helps.

  • Iphoto/iweb sharing

In iphoto where are the pictures, the actual images? All i see is giant library file thats 13GB. Are all my picts in that single folder? Would i just copy that library file to a new computer if i wanted to import my library. I'm about to do a clean install (time machine isn't working) and I want to make sure that my website keeps all its links.
    Thanks!

So thats it? Its just one file?
the iPhoto library is a collection of many files
But it is an entity and there are no user serviceable parts in it
No - I no nothing about iWeb - the appropriate iWeb forum would be a better place for such info - http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=188

  • Iphoto, iweb migration

I just bought an iMac and went through the migration assistant in copying all files and applications from my MacBook. However, none of my iweb sites or iphoto pics copied over to the new mac. Any suggestions on how I can merge this information?

Connect the computers with a FireWire cable, start up the old machine with the T key held down, and then move the items Pictures/iPhoto Library/ and Library/Application Support/iWeb/ from the home folder on the old machine, which is in /Users/ by default, to that on the new one.

  • Mavericks installation gave me an error message, I had to erase my HHD and now I don't have my iPhoto, iWeb, and other programs from iLife

I used to have iPhoto and iWeb, which I used constantly and now that I've installed the new software they are nowhere to be found. I looked for the programs in the App Store but they are charging for them.
Please, it's enough that I had to erase all my data from the HD and lost many of my files while doing it because the Mavericks update gave me a error message while installing.
    I upgrated from Mountain Lion.
    I have an iMac.
    Thanks.

I didn't have the applications backed-up... I was not expecting to lose them over an OS upgrade either... yeah, I know, it felt like a once-in-a-life-time experience when I encountered the message (or FATAL ERROR in windows terms).
I don't know where my original installation disc is, I have kids... I no longer have control over where stuff is anymore, especially a disc thingy LOL
Anyway... I lost my iMovie, iWeb, iPhoto... BTW iWeb is not even for sale on the app store anymore.
    Apple... really?

  • Iphoto, imovie, iweb missing after mountain lion upgrade...

I have a mid 2010 iMac that I have kept up to date and recently upgraded to Mountian Lion.  Everything has been fine except that I noticed that iLife was missing right after the update...  And I didn't purchase it in the app store because it came with my iMac.  In fact, the iMac came with Snow Leopard on it I think. But I haven't the slightest idea where that disk is because we lost a few things that I haven't located yet in our move last year.  I have another copy of Snow Leopard that I goes to my 2009 MacBook that I already had.  It seems quite frustrating that the programs just disappeared and they've never done that before on any other upgrade!  I have no need to purchase and upgrade to iLife 11 as I only use iPhoto and iMovie for iPhone photos/video because I have everything else in LightRoom already.  But I would like iPhoto/iMovie back!  How do I go about doing this?  Can i use my backup to get it back somehow?  Just confused on how to tget it back and my searches yielded very little...  Thanks!

sorry...  i meant '09 version...  I just knew it wasn't '11 (assumed '09) because I haven't upgraded to the '11 versions.  I said iLife because I lost all 3-iphoto, iweb and imovie.  Well, I see that iweb isn't a part of '11 and is going away and i am just now seeing that.  And noticing that I lost GarageBand in addition (i just don't use it to notice it was also missing after the upgrade).
And again, they all came installed on my computer, not from me purchasing it via app store.  Technically I guess it wasn't a part of the OS, I just meant that it came with the imac and was part of my imac purchase.  I only remember having an install disk (not a seperate ilife disk) that came with my imac but i am unable to find any of it because of a move (and haven't located the disks that came with the 2010 iMac).  Again, I have the snow leopard os upgrade disk that I purchased (prior to buying my imac in 2010) that I bought to upgrade my 2009 MacBook Pro.  But again, it isn't the SL install disk that came with the 2010 iMac (which is the computer we are discussing here)  However, my 2009 MacBookPro was upgraded to ML right after I upgraded the iMac on the same exact dayand I DID NOT lose iphoto, iweb, imovie and garageband on that MacBook Pro.  And it was the 09' also because I had not upgraded either computer to '11 version.  So, the programs went missing on the imac upgrade only, and not the macbook-so there has to be a reason why...  I did not mean that iLife came with an OS Upgrade -only that it came with all purchased apple computers. sorry!
Sberman-I will try to load the iphoto link that you gave above and see if it restores the iphoto and my catalog, etc. Someone I know suggested that it's all still there - but i am just missing the iphoto programs (and other programs) for some reason and all should be restored once it's reloaded.

  • How can I open a different Iphoto Library in Iweb

I have 3 different IPhoto libraries on my Imac. Iweb opens one which I don't want to use. Does anybody know how I can change the library that Iweb uses? I allready tried opening Iweb from Iphoto. Deleting my Iweb-Plist and rebooting, but it did not solve my problem...

Open the Library with iPhoto. iWeb (and other apps) access the current Default Library - i.e the one that's open or the most recently opened one
