IPhoto jumped to trash, reinstalled, new message...

For some reason, iPhoto jumped into the trash can. I routinely empty the trash. I noticed it, and dragged it out.
When I clicked on it, the message, "You can't open the application "iPhoto" because it is not supported on this architecture.
I downloaded iPhoto and reinstalled. Same message.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
For some reason, iPhoto jumped into the trash can.
Wow, all by itself?
I downloaded iPhoto and reinstalled. Same message.
Where did you download from? There is no way to install iPhoto from a download, you need the original install disk.
Did you remove the receipts before re-installing?
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only...’

  • I keep getting the message "the photo library was created with an unreleased version of iphoto.  I have reinstalled but still get the message. What do I need to do?

I have had my iBook for years with iPhoto on and then suddenly today I get the message "The photo library was created with an unreleased version of iPhoto.  Please quit and upgrade this photo library by opening it in iPhoto 2 or iPhoto 4.  I reinstalled iPhoto but nothing has changed.  What do I need to do to get it working again?  Help!!

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Why is that when I am composing a new message do I end up with multiple versions of my message I am composing up in my Google Trash mailbox?  How can I stop this from happening?

It was very hard to see what the box says because the message displays for less than one second. However, I was able to record it with my iphone and pause it until I got a shot of the message. The box says the following:
"Do you want the application “java” to accept incoming network connections?
Clicking deny may limit the application’s behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences."
I did make some changes. I will see if it works.
    Thank you!!!

  • Can't attach an iPhoto pic to a new message

I know there is going to be an easy answer to this, but whenever I try to attach a photo to a new outgoing message the system locks up and I have to force quit mail and/or restart the machine. I click "attachment" and select Pictures. From that point on I think it is trying to attach ALL the pictures to the message. How do I get to the point of selecting specific pics to attach? I tried selecting iPhoto, but that's the application. Pictures seems to be where the actual photos are, but I haven't been able to see the individual pics. The only success I've had is to move the desired pic to the desktop and then attach it from there, which results in a huge picture embedded in the text message. Any help would be appreciated.

John, Thanks for the tip. Your suggestion did work, but I'm still wondering why pics can't be added as attachments. I was able to insert pics into a new message using the method you described, but the size options are very limiited i.e., small, medium and large. Seems like pics should be selected from the iPhoto library (somehow) and attached to the message. I may have to email .mac support to get a final answer.
    Thanks

  • Emailing from iPhoto doesn't create new message

I'm trying to email some photos from iPhoto using Apple Mail. I select my photos tell it what size to send, photo count is correct. Click on Compose and I see a progress bar...preparing photos for email. it says it processed the correct # of photos but I don't get the new message dialog box.
Could this be because I'm using gmail imap?

Could this be because I'm using gmail imap?
Unlikely, as the service you use has no impact on creating the message, only on sending it.
    try the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • HT201320 When I access my email from the iPhone, hit "inbox", the new messages appear briefly, but then just evaporate.  I can't find them anywhere - not in inbox, not in junk, trash, saved - nowhere.  Can anyone tell me what is happening?

When I access my email from the iPhone, new messages appear only briefly and then immediately disappear, before I do anything.  Only old messages that were already in my inbox are visible.  I can't find the new messages anywhere -- they have not moved to Saved, Junk, Trash, anything.  IT is like the iPhone just ate them.  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

If you have a POP3 account this means that another "client" email program has retrieved the messages and deleted the messages from the server. You need to change the server settings on that device to leave the messages on the server.
If you have an IMAP or MS Exchange account this means that someone read the messages on another device and either deleted them or moved them to another folder. Or there is an automated script that moved them to another folder.

    Hi Ken,
Wow, I've logged into adobe and never seen your response until now.
I need to make the forums more of a daily stop I guess.
Thank you for your response, When I go to the Archives, it states I have none. In addition, previously when I'd tried to move items to the archive, they just disappeared
Currently my desktop is not connecting at all, Everytime I connect, it's states "We have now logged you out" and requests I login again.
    I have of course rebooted,
Gone into taskmanager, killed all the relevant threads,  tried again to login through the desktop, no luck, I'll have to uninstall it, make sure the threads are killed, then reboot it and then reinstall it, but I've not had the time to do that.
On another note, and just as a point of reference, myself, personally, I hate these "cloud" file repositories (not to be confused with adobe cloud services which I love) but the file repositories themselves imho, are a blackhole of resource usage when one doesn't/isn't using them,
Is there a way we can use it more of a "ftp" sort of thing, when I want to I can  put files there?  There is no way to "Download" the repository, no way to download the folders.. only individual files and then it takes I think three different steps before the download starts.. I find this very inhibiting.  Just an fyi. for what it's worth.
Please, feel free to contact me,
I'm on g+ chat [email protected]

  • New forum feature: A button or option to jump to the first unread message in a thread.

It would be handy if we had a way to open a thread and jump to the first unread message in the thread. This is especially usual when reading very active threads and it would save us some time getting back to the point in the discussion where we left off.

  • "New Message" Window Fails To Open

When I click on "New Message", no window opens up for me to compose an email. Does anyone know of anything that would cause this? How can I resolve this situation? Do I need to reinstall the program? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

    HI,
Sounds like your Mail preferences are corrupted.
Launch Mail. From the Mac Mail Menu Bar click Mail/Preferences. Make not of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Mac Mail
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Trash.
The ~ (Tilde) character represents your Home Folder.
Now relaunch Mac Mail and click: New Message.

  • I am using iphoto 6.06 for my intel imac.  I have been trying to print pictures from iphoto and i keep getting a message that states " the picture you are trying to print is in the iphoto library"  what can i do to be able to print a photo from iphoto

I am using iphoto 6.06 for my intel imac.  I have been trying to print pictures from iphoto and i keep getting a message that states " unreadable file: the following file could not be imported.  the file is in the iphoto library folder"  also when i try to print a picture from iphoto i get a message that says "no page was selected"
not sure what happened but i can pnly print when i drop the photo onto my desktop as an 8.5 x 11 size picture and i am trying to print 4x6's

Since the new library gives you the same message log into another user account on your Mac and see if you can run iPhoto without getting that message.  If you get that message there also a reinstall of iPhoto seems indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all available updates to it.

  • What do I do to resolve an ongoing problem with the MAIL "new messages sound".?  If I reboot the iMAC and keep the mail app open after a number of messages come in the NEW MESSAGE Sound quits. I have to reboot the machine to get it back.

New Messages sound quits after several messages have arrived. I've tried several passes at resolving but nothing I have done seems to work. Sometimes I have to reboot the imac several times to get the New Messages Sounds back. Everything else works. The only thing I haven't done is reinstall the OS and that seems foolhardy.

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

  • Can't open new message window or reply window in mail

I just started having issues where I cannot open a new message window or a reply window. I also cannot open a new Note or To Do. I restarted, zapped the pram (8 times), and was going to trash the plist but couldn't find it. Does anyone know if there is a plist for mail. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Hi ulua & welcome to discussions...
Try this - find the /Library/Preferences folder in your user/Home folder and then locate and delete this file:
    com.apple.mail.plist
*Caution* - doing this may clear your account settings so be sure to note those first in the event you are required to reconfigure, etc.

Sounds like an issue with the iPhoto Library
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:

  • Mail won't show new message windows

    This is weird.
I needed to email a photo to a friend. I drug the photo from iPhoto to the Mail icon in the dock and nothing happened (a new message window didn't pop up with the photo attached) I tried this 3 times and still got nothing. I swiped to another desktop (in Lion) and i could see the new message windows, all three of them, with the picture. When I landed on a space they disappeaered again. When I swipe to a new space they appear and then disappear when I land on that space.
I've shut mail down but haven't done a full restart. Any other ideas why this didn't work and then now how do I fix my problem?
    Thanks…
    Here's a picture of what I'm talking about…I don't know why it's upside down?!

I've never seen anything like this reported before. Verify/repair your disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
If the problem persists, proceed as follows:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that the Console application displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. Try to reproduce the problem, and look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that could have been written there as a result. Do you see anything that could provide a clue as to what's going on?
    Now, try this:
    1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts, and create a new user account for testing purposes.
    2. Either log out of your main user account or just quit Mail so that it does not interfere with the other user account.
    3. Log in as the newly created user and set up Mail anew there. Does the problem happen there as well?
