IPhoto just decides to quit seeing camera

So, I got my parents to switch to Mac, sight unseen and so far, they are loving its simplicity. But I'm getting a little worried. At Christmas, I showed them how to attach their ditigal camera and how easy it was to import their photos into iphoto and then make new folders etc. Then I get a call from them and they tell me that iphoto won't see their camera anymore. I had them check all their connections and make sure the camera was on/in the right position etc. and nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

maybe it is in conflict with other camera drivers. Do you have you computer updated?
Some tips
- Try restarting the computer (or simply quiting iPhoto) and try conecting it again... Wait a few seconds, because, sometimes it takes time.
- Make sure the usb entry is working (try changing to another usb port)- sometimes the usb board port isn't enough, try another usb port directly on the computer.
- If your camera is showned on the desktop, try "importing" on the iPhoto menu.
Hope that was helpful

  • IMovie quits seeing camera while iDVD8 processing

Everytime lately while iDVD is processing a DVD to disc image, for example, my iMovie 6 stops "seeing" the camera.
Once iDVD is done iMovie can see the camera again.
I dont think this was a problem before?
    Help?
    d

Why are you trying to import/export while iDVD is processing?
Saving an iDVD project as a disk image should be done by itself without using the computer for anything else. You risk having it not work properly if you are trying to do other things. If you want to work in iMovie, do that first, and then when you are not needing to use the computer, go ahead and have your disk image created.....maybe during the night while you are sleeping!

  • Logicboard Just Decided to Quit ... /cry

Soooo frustrated. Got up this morning, checked email, was reading in discussion group, got called away for a few minutes, came back and that was the last I saw of my files. The MBP had gone to sleep and never woke up. A hard restart also failed.
Reset SMC, zapped PRAM, tried target disk mode ... nothing, nada, zilch. /sigh!
Since 1995 I always had the extended service plans and never needed them. Funny how Murphy's Law works.
What's my point?? Well, what to do. Shell out $1300 for a new logicboard? Part out the CP on eBay? Throw it in the river?
As an Apple/Mac user living in a small Oregon Coastal Community I have always been left to my own devices, no local help. A couple months ago we got an authorized sales and service place - woot!! Ran the CP up to him and he also diagnosed the logicboard with the caveat that it 'could' be the display ... small chance, but maybe. He was able to get the CP booted to Target Disc mode but it must have been the dying breath because it no longer will. I figured if it booted for him it would for me - so much for figuring (thanks Murphy)!!!
IDK, thinking I just need to vent ... I'm just p!$$@d!! Thinking I'd like to go a couple rounds with Murphy.
Can't imagine there's much to reply to here, but if so, I'm all ears (and eyes).
    Thanks for listening.

Yes there is life, the light near the thumb latch comes on, the 'Key Caps' light came on once, the light in the power button does not come on. The ram was removed and reset and SMC reset yet again.
A small ray of gratitude .... the MBP would not mount in target disc mode on my MDD (same OS), but it did mount on my Sawtooth running Tiger (10.4.11) so my most current data is cloning. Whew!! Thank God he has one up on Murphy.
My decision is whether or not to replace the logic board. At $1300 it's less than half the cost of same current model. BUT, the tech that looked at it wasn't 'positive' the logic board would 'cure' the ills.
Wondering how I get a definitive diagnosis? So then I have info I can rely on to base a decision.

  • IPhoto 8.1.2(424) just will not quit.  Even after rebuilding library

I am using iPhoto on a shared folder between two users. Somehow my iPhoto just will not quit. I tried Command option to start iPhoto to rebuild the library but it still did not work.
the only way I can quit is to force quit it. Any help will be great. Thanks.

Make sure the other user is not using the library at the same time. Create a test library, add a couple of photos in it, put in the same shared folder and try it.

  • I just downloaded 950 photos on iPhoto and deleted them off my camera and now under last import there is only 4 photos and i can't find the others?? There is a whole bunch of blank events in the library with no photos in them all with todays date? Help!!

Yes - you need a min of 10 GB just to operate - with just 1 you certainly can lose photos and other critical things - you need to make space immediately - probably by moving your iPhoto library to a volume formatted Mac OS extended -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • IPhoto not seeing camera, only in my account

Hello all, I had recently started having a problem with our old Sony camera where when I plugged it in it would launch iPhoto, and that was it. It did show up as a mass storage device, but iPhoto wouldn't import unless I did it manually. I figured it was the camera, as it had other issues from being dropped.
So today I bought a new Canon PowerShot A590. So I plug that in and... same thing. So I try Image capture, and that doesn't see it either. So I install the Canon software, and that works.
Then I tried my wife's iBook running Tiger, and both iPhoto and Image Capture saw the camera. So then I went back to my G4 and logged in as root, which I only use for trouble shooting. iPhoto launched and saw thew camera and asked to import the photos. I tried repairing permission, deleting pref files, etc, to no avail. Also, since the Canon doesn't mount, I can't do a manual import.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Hi David. This is a post I made in early Dec. Hope it helps. Best regards.
Hi discussions. This is just an answer to a problem I was having and might be helpful to anyone having iPhoto camera connection problems. First off, I have four apple computers; three running 10.4.11 and one, a new 2.8ghz MacBook Pro, running 10.5.5. The Canon 750 Elph is two months old. From the beginning it has connected to my desktop DP 2.5ghz G5 PPc, my 12" 1.5ghz G4 Powerbook (both running 10.4.11) and now the MacBook Pro. It would not connect to my wife's 17" 1.33ghz G4 Powerbook running 10.4.11. System Prefs identified the Elph connected to the usb high speed bus so I knew that the usb ports were operational. Image Capture stated; No camera connected. As always, all updates had been performed and permissions run. I trashed iPhoto '08 along with its prefs and all iPhoto receipts. I then reinstalled iPhoto '08 and ran permissions. Still no connection. It was time for Apple Discussions. I followed a thread from some weeks ago to try rebuilding the iPhoto library. I saved and rebuilt. No connection. My apologies for not remembering the user in the thread who stated that a reinstall of the last OSX combo update might do the trick. He was speaking of the 10.5.5 combo update so I figured it should be the same for the 10.4.11 combo. I did not know that you could install an update over the existing OS which has already been updated. I am always learning. BINGO! The Elph connected immediately. Thanks to APPLE DISCUSSIONS, I still have a bit of hair left and a wife who loves me. I hope maybe this post will save the hair of someone else.

I was quite surprised by that. And I've been off for a little because I've been giving final exams at the college where I work. Now with break I will be spending a little more time on here until I have to start getting ready for the Spring semester. I have experienced a couple of interesting posters in the past week though. I wa afraid one was going to reach through the CAT 5 and grab me around the neck.

    Thanks for your reply
    I solved my problem,
Definitely a bug in syncing through itunes.
    - Connect Iphone with MacBook Pro through USB
    - Go to iphone on itunes, photos, deselect photo synchronization.
    - Sync (all pics will be removed from iphone)
    - Close itunes, iphoto, disconnect iphone
    - Select in finder: (home)-pictures-iphoto library.
    - Sec click on iphoto library and choose "show package contents"
    - Delete iPod Photo Cache
    - Close finder
    - Empty trash
    - Reconnect iphone
    - Allow photo synchronization again and everything works smooth.
After this, changes made in iphoto are instantaneously reflected in iphone photos.
Once every hundred photos, one gets detached from iphoto and then changes are no longer reflected (buggy) :-(
In this case I erase the photo in iphoto, sync, go back to iphoto trash, reestablish the photo from the trash and sync again.
Hope this improves. Still have to try cloud though.
    Thanks

You need to have iPhoto 11 v9.6 (which you can get from the App Store) to use iPhoto on Yosemite. If you already have iPhoto 11 then the update is free. Otherwise it's a purchase.

  • Iphoto doesn't see camera under different logins

iphoto recognizes my new Nikon camera when I am logged in (administrator) but does not see the camera when one of my kids is logged in. They can access and use iphoto and the usb sees the camera with system profiler when they are logged in, but i photo does not. Image Capture is also set to open iphoto when a camera is connected. Any ideas on what to try to get iphoto to see the camera when they are logged in? I even tried putting iphoto in the shared folder with no luck. It's driving me crazy. Thanks.

  • I just installed elements 11 with camera raw 7.1. My  photos from iPhoto will not open in camera raw

I just installed elements 11 with camera raw 7.1 in my iMac. My raw photo files from iPhoto will not open in camera raw. The elements screen opens without a photo, but camera raw willnot open. Help.

You need to tell iphoto to send raw files out of iphoto or it will make its own conversion and send a pre-converted file. Go to the iphoto preferences>advanced and turn on this checkbox:

iPhoto just froze so I Force Quit the iPhoto app and now I have lost half my (hundreds) of photos. How do I restore them?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

iPhoto just stopped working. It loads pictures, but then goes into rainbow wheel forever. Then I try to force quit it, and then the whole Mac hangs up (had to power cycle it to get it back). I am using OS 10.5.8, and when I run software update, it assures me I have up to date software. I have not added any photos since the last time I used it, probably less than a month ago. What gives?

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

just installed elements 9 , plugged camera memory card into computer, I see it on my computer but adobe says can't find device ?

Perhaps the type of file on the camera card is not supported by elements 9 (I have elements 12 and all of my pictures are jpegs so I wouldn't know).  You might have to save the pictures you want to your computer as jpegs.
