IPhoto keeps "finding" memory card

iPhoto '09 problem.
iPhoto keeps "finding" the memory card from my camera as a device (even when the card is not connected), not just once but again and again and again .... at least 10 times .... sometimes it doesn't stop and have to force iPhoto to stop.  have to re-start if I want to have a chance to work with iPhoto.  Very frustrating.
Any ideas on what is going wrong?  how can i fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Try trash the following file
com.apple.ImageCaptureNotifications.DeviceDiscoveryDatabase.501
from HD/Library/ Caches
and restart your mac.

  • IPhoto ejected my memory card mid import but is saying that there is still an import in progress.  I can't close the program or shutdown my computer.

I was trying to import some photos (probably close to 300) and iphoto ejected my memory card in the middle of that process.  The photos have not been imported, and now I can't close iPhoto, or even shut down my computer (macbook pro) because it keeps saying that Iphoto is cancelling restarts.  I've tried to close the program but it doesn't seem to be working.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get iphoto to shut down mid import?

How do I export photos from iphoto to a memory card?

Not using the correct structure. Camera's use a very exact structure and the only way the camera will see photos on the card is for them to be in that exact structure

  • How do I download /export my iPhotos to a memory card on my camera?

I am trying to "organize" my camera memory cards, which I want use as a back up rather than just using external or USB drives. I can not find how to Export photos to a new memory card in my camera.
The reason I want to do this is because when I've saved on a USB or External Drive, the photos are zipped, & then when I uploaded back to my mac (when I needed to get a new one), the dpi & KB is really low (270 x 360 & 54 KB compared to over 2000 x 1500 & 255 KB for recent photos!)
The iPhoto help manuals & Apple site helps don't address this exporting, only how to export to Email & the web.
I was told by someone USB & ED's "don't change the size" (it does zip them) & to increase the dpi & KB on those, just "double click" on each photo in the iPhoto app - didn't work! So any other better / real ideas how to increase the dpi/KB would be more than welcome, as I can't print any of my older photos, the size is too small!

Still the answer since Canon Camera's will not mount to the desktop
I am trying to "organize" my camera memory cards, which I want use as a back up rather than just using external or USB drives.
Why? memory cards are not very reliable - using Time Machine and an external hard drive is a MUCH better way to backup - I run TM so I have hourly backups - do a daily bootable clone - ane I never have iPhoto delete my photos when I import them so I have the originals too - and if you really want a backup on your memory card this is the way to have one - do not delete when importing
This is user error - not in any way a function of backing up to an external Drive - a properly done backup and restore gives you exactly what you had whe you did the backup - that is the whole purpose of a backup - and it works perfectly if done correctly
I was told by someone USB & ED's "don't change the size" (it does zip them) & to increase the dpi & KB on those, just "double click" on each photo in the iPhoto app - didn't work! this is a very cofussed set of statements
1 - no backup "changes the size" of the photos - the entire purpose of a backup is to have an exact copy available in case of problems
2 - Most backups do not zip photos - some do - zipping does not change the content when you unzip
3 - DPI is not an atribute of a photo - it is a mathmatical caculation - dots (pixels) divided by inches - you do not have DPI until you have inches (either a display or a print)
4 - the only way to "change" DPI is ot change inches - for a given photo the only way DPI can be increased is by printing a smaller photo - decreasing inches
5 - the KB of a photo is not material - the only things that is interesting is the pixel dimensions - and you can not make them larger
Basically you are chasing the wrong things - buy an external drive formatted Mac OS extended that is 2 1/2 times the size of your main drive and run Time Mahcine all the time with its default settings

  • Iphoto wont recognize memory card to load pictures

all of a sudden iphoto wont recognize the memory card to import pictures. when you put card in reader iphoto launches but you dont see the card on the left hand side and it doesnt ask you to import the pictures. If you remove the card you get device removal error - then card appears on left and import button shows up but nothing happens when you push the button??
If you go to Finder the card is there and i can "select all" and drag them to iphoto. This is really strange - please help?

If your card shows up in the Finder then you can still import from inside iPhoto. Do File > Import to Library, then navigate to the camera card. You can preview the photos, select the ones you want to import, and import them to iPhoto. This is actually my preferred method, since it allows me to choose exactly which photos I want to upload from my camera.
Don't remove the card reader from the USB port until you have ejected it properly. You can do that from in the Finder. Click on the little triangle eject symbol next to the name of the card (below your HD icon). When the card disappears from the list it is properly ejected and you may safely disconnect the card reader.
I don't know why the card suddenly stopped appearing in the iPhoto Source List. One thing you can try is to use your camera to do a low-level format of the card. This has been known to improve a card's performance. The second thing you can try is to delete iPhoto's preference file. Close iPhoto. Use the Finder to navigate to Macintosh HD/ Users/ (your user name)/ Library/ Preferences/ com.apple.iPhoto.plist, then move that file to the trash. You'll have to reset iPhoto's preferences back to your liking after you launch it.

I tryed with 2 other memory card but it don't find them too...
    I don't know what happened?!!!

What card are you using as some dont really integrate well with some handsets.
Sandisk are in my experiance the best to use.
You always could try re formatting your card although this operation will wipe the card of its contents.
have you tried your card in another handset ?

  • Iphoto doesn't read my memory card

Hi! I just switched to a mac so i don't really know my ways yet.
anyway, i was importing pictures to iphoto from a memory card using a USB memory card reader, then all of the sudden when i closed Iphoto and opened it again, my memory card can no longer be read.I tried my other CF and Memory sticks but with no luck.
I did eject the memory card properly. there was this one time though that i forgot to eject it and removed the memory card.
what do i do now? help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First lets get those photo off the card by dragging them to a folder on the desktop and import from there. Next delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, reformat the card with the camera, take a couple of test shots and try again. See if that helps.
If the time you forgot to eject the card correctly was that last time you used the card then reformatting it with the camera should fix it.
For what its' worth I recommend uploading from a card reader to a folder on the desktop first. This assures that the files get safely on the hard drive before any other action is started. Then reformat the card for the next shoot using the camera. If you name that folder to describe what the photos are about the Event will also have that name. I also sequentially batch rename the files with the date of the shoot and a brief description.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Uploading from iPhoto to the camera memory card

Wondering if I can upload pictures in iPhoto back to my camera's memory card. Or if my card is in a reader, is there software that will "write" photos in iPhoto onto the memory card? Maybe a dumb question but giving a relative a photo frame that reads all kinds of memory cards then displays the photos. I want to create a custom group of photos in my computer then upload those to the memory card for playback on the photo frame.
    Thanks!

    HI BDF,
If your camera card mounts on the desktop like a volume, double click the volume to open it and find the folder where the photos should be. If you do not know or if your card does not mount on the desktop, then you can use a card reader and this application.

  • Nokia C2-03 Set Password for Memory Card

    Hi All,
I m using C2-03, I found an option to set password on memory card.
Apps and Games > Memory Card > Mem. card opt. > Set password
for my privacy I set a password but the Memory card still opens without asking. Can anyone plz inform me how do I secure my private data using password?
    Thanks,
    Khaild.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It will continue to open up without the password. The password will only be asked if you insert the memory card in a different phone and it is only required once. It will keep opening up normally from the next time.
That password isn't there to keep your memory card protected inside your phone but instead to keep others from using your memory card. As long as the password is there, the phone can't be used on any other phone or even on a PC through card reader.

  • Memory Card Transfer

How do I transfer a photo already downloaded on Iphoto onto a memory card which will be inserted into a photo frame?

How many photos do you have on your card?  Those PC formatted memory cards only allow a limited of files to be in the root directory of the card.  It's best to put the photos in a folder, name it Pictures, and add the folder to the memory card.  That worked best for me in my frame.

  • Uploading photos from camera memory card are being duplicated

    Hi,
When loading phoots into iphoto from a memory card we are getting two images of the same photo (same identifier as well) into the iphoto event. I've looked over many previous threads and have unticked the duplicate options in preferences/advanced, but this isn't making any difference. Any further tips?
    Thanks.

provide details if you want help
The general answser is that iPhoto does not in any case duplicate photos during import - one wild guess given that you provide absoluely no information at all would be that you have a new DLSR and have set it to shoot RAW plus JPEG so you are creating two copies of each photo which iPhoto will most certainly import - if that is it the solution is to set the camera correctly to either RAW or JPEG

  • I cannot find my pictures in iphoto after downloading and delating from memory card....

I downloaded my pictures from memory card, and once it was done, iphoto asked me if I wanted to keep the pictures into the memory cart, I pressed no, and now I cannot find my pictures anywhere... Is there a way to find them back ?

    Hard to say
    Are they in last import?
do not use your memory card until you resolve this - you may want to use software like Media Recover to recover the images on the card
You can try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
For the future a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

Did it...  When I clicked on "No name", a file folder came up and, I forgot to put MacBook Pro in the name bar... That was it!  Maybe someone else can use this post Hopefully...
