IPhoto knows time and timezone, but punts anyway?
I have an iPhone video of a noontime clock performance in Munich. iPhoto in Seattle displays 3AM for the clip, which is correct Zulu time, but esthetically stupid. Can I get iPhoto to use German time for display? The clip location is set to Munich, so the app has the info it needs. (I know I can brute-force a time change, but I'd hate to just fudge the data, since the underlying system knows the right answer.)
Richard
Terence,
I understand the limitations you mention (and do recall some agonies dealing with DV video clips when the camcorder clock was mis-set). However, the information you deny is manifestly there. The camera in this case was an iPhone so it knows GMT for the creation of the clip. This is verified because the clip's Info display in iPhoto displays the correct time, but just uses the wrong time-zone, PDT, (ignoring the Places info I have entered). And iPhoto correctly handles the interleaved still photos I took with the iPhone, using the correct European time zone for their Info displays. I haven't verified whether the Places info for the various files was automagically generated by the iPhone, or was imposed by iPhoto entry, since my iPhone went in and out of Airplane Mode on any given day.

Dear Apple...I know time marches on but unfortunately you have become useless to those of us who can't upgrade systems or afford Iphones. So my itunes is totally unavailalbe since ipods can't work w/Itunes 9, so all the $ I spent is out the window! I have been an apple mac user since the Blue Tower in early 2000. The fact that I recently replace a stolen Ipod Classic and it isn't compatible w/iTunes9 is really screwed up. You have failed many!
What is your question?

Calendar appointment times and timezones in new Bold
Hi All,
I'm new to the world of BB and have a question about time zones - I know this is a drama subject for a lot of smart phones, but the Bold has a couple of options I'm not familiar with.
I have a new Bold running v5.0.0.743 and I have set the date/time settings to;
Auto adjust time zone - OFF
Set time - AUTOMATIC
I set 90% of my appointments in Office 2003 with no option to account for different time zones and to keep my Outlook and BB appointments reading the same, I don't want my BB to adjust timezones, but it would be nice to automatically adjust to local time.
Could somebody please let me know what my phone will do with these settings if I travel into a new time zone?
Cheers
John KHi josefd
Yes, I can work out how to get round this problem but I very much feel that it is a problem that Nokia should resolve if they want this phone to be used by business travellers. I am not prepared to operate in the way you suggest as I think it is very much open to human error, and also very reliant on the phone networks working properly.
I think you need to experience this before you discover how annoying it is. Compare it to the old paper diaries. If you had an appointment with a colleague in France next week for 2pm, you would write 2pm in your diary. you would not check what time zone they were in and then write a different time in your diary .Why should I convert times to UK times just because this phone does something so unusual?
As I said this approach is very prone to human error, and also relies upon the local networks and the phone to update the time correctly as it is particularly annoying if the network in the coutry you visit is unrelaible (or is it the phone?). For instance in Costa Rica the time never changed which made it even more confusing.
All Nokia need to do is give us an option such as "the time has changed - do you want to change your calendar entries Yes/No". Surely that would be easy enough? -
IPod touch keeps changing the date, time, and timezone on its own
Yesterday I noticed that the iPod was showing the wrong date, so I fixed it. I also checked the computer I was syncing to, but it had the correct date, time, etc. Now when I woke up the iPod today, the time, date, and timezone had all been changed again. Has anybody else had this problem, or know what I need to do to stop it? Thanks!
When you sync the iPod, you have to sync it with a "new" iTunes window.
Before you connect the iPod, exit out of iTunes, then reload it, and finally connect your iPod to it.
I believe there was a software update that fixed this... -
More date problems: Missing time and timezones
I looked over the board for any past advice, but couldn't find anything directly relating to this. Then, it maybe my poor ability to search properly. So, I'll appologise in advance.....
I'm changing the value of a date, using a class I wrote. When I do so, the date returned seems to be timeless. On top of that, if I try to format it with a timezone 'z', I get the exception:
Unparseable date: "2/6/2003 9:59:17"
Here's the code I'm using:
//My date class snippits.
public void setValue(String inDate) throws ParseException, Throwable
TimeZone tz = TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT"+getTimeZone());
//Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(tz);
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss z");
sdf.setLenient(true);
sdf.setTimeZone(tz);
theDate.setTime(sdf.parse(inDate).getTime());
isNull = false;
public void setNull()
theDate = null;
isNull = true;
public Timestamp getValue()
return theDate;
// Code for when I retreve the value
Timestamp timestamp = ((theDateClass)theResult).getValue();
DATE theDate = new DATE(timestamp.toString());
Any ideas or help is much appreciated.
Cheers.I haven't been trying it out, but it looks to me your
problem could be due to an inconsistency between the
two...
yoou expect two digits for both day and month, but
provide only one.It parses the date without exception if there's no timezone on the end of the format. That's what's puzzling me. -
I'm in an Iphoto loop with iPhoto uploader error and Facebook. I cannot post to Facebook as it sends me back to setup again and then says there is an error with iPhoto uploader. "Try again later" This has been going on since I joined Facebook. Cannot figure out what to do
have you tried posting this question in the iPhoto forum? https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto

IPhoto change time and date does not work with Flickr
Hello everyone,
In my iPhoto librairies, I do change my photo date and time to set them we they were actually taken. Here, I'm refering especially to photos which are:
* scanned photo
* stiched photo
The issue is:
When I share these photo on Flickr, Flickr sort them with the previous date time setting, even if I have selected to change the original file in iPhoto.
So it is painful to end up seeing that all the work done on iPhoto is not reflected elsewhere.
This issue can only be in iPhoto as the old date time should be swapped with the new one.
Let me know when the fixed will be implemented so I stop loosing precious time editing photos!
Regards,
FrancoisI have an Access Database created with Access 2010 installed on a machine running Windows 8 using the Access 2010 Runtime code. For the most part the database works but all reports that require a date in the header come out with ##error. Works fine
with full access on any other machine. Just this one were we are using Runtime. Any ideas?
Make sure you don't have Date used as a Field Name, as it is a Reserved Word in Access and can cause unpredictable behavior.
Also make sure you have compiled the VBA code, before using the Runtime version.
Have error handling in place, to capture errors in your DB.
Hope these pointers help,

Server Time and Local Time (Dreamweaver) Off By 1 Hour
How can I get Dreamweaver to show me the correct time stamp on my files on the server and my local machine? When I telnet into my server, the date and time stamp on all files is correct. My server time is set properly to ET (GMT-5). My local machine's time is properly set. I asked my sysadmin if PureFTP has any timezone settings and I was told by the sysadmin that all my server times and timezones are accurate. My sysadmin said that Drwamweaver is the culprit.
I have lived with this for a long time, but it is extremely annoying and I would like to fix it.
I searched high and low in the Dreamweaver option settings for some sort of timezone setting or offset -- found nothing.
Has anyone experienced a 1-hour out-of-sync issue between a file's actual time stamp on the server and what Dreamweaver shows it as in the Remote/Local Files View?
Thanks.During Daylight Savings Time.

IPhoto says its emailing pics but doesn't
Just bought an iMac with iPhoto 9.6 and yosemite but sending photos via 'Share','Email' doesn't work.
iPhoto says pics have been sent but they haven't and I've wasted a lot of time on the text which, of course, is lost.
All this worked perfectly on my old G4 with OS X 3.9 and first version of iPhoto!!
Any help on this much appreciated.
Thanks.1 - go to iPhoto's Accounts preference pane, delete the email account and add it back. Try emailing again.
2 - go to iPhoto's General preference pane and set Mail as iPhoto's email client. Mail is more reliable, has better interfacing with Contacts and has templates similar to iPhoto's in its stationary feature. It also creates a sent copy automatically. IMO it's a better way of sending photos that using iPhoto as the client. -
I have to reset time and date after booting
My mac pro cannot hold date and time.
so far, I have replaced the pram battery and done the pram reset several times.
at first i noticed that the sys pref panes were unlocked when I went in to change the time and date but I have since cured that in sys pref/security.
the governing factor seems to be wetherr or npt is a revoot or completely cold boot (mains power switched completely off)
the expected message comes up i.e. " your system clock is set to a time and date before 1.1.2008 some progs may bave erratically blah blah "
the actual time has reset to 1.1.2001 ( dont know if that is significant but mentioned it just in case).
So, if i just shut the machine down and then boot it up again, no probs
if i restart, no probs
shut down and pull the plug ?? 1dt, Jan 2001
would appreciate some adviceClick here and ask. If they tell you to call, and they probably will, accept that.

i am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier photo please help me to recover my photos
Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
