IPhoto Last 12 Months folder

Running iPhoto 9.5.1. Mavericks 10.9.4.  Wondering: what happens to photos in the Last 12 Months folder, which have not been sorted into other albums, after 12 months..? - particularly as I've been adding more photos, so the 12 month date keeps advancing. Do they simply remain, even though they were added more than 12 months ago?
For example: my current Last 12 months folder contains images from Sept 2013 to Sep 2014. Many of these pics haven't been organized into other folders. When I begin to add photos from Oct 2014, what happens to the images from Sept 2013...which will be more than 12 months ago?

Nothing happens to them. The last twelve months album is just a window, showing you a current selection of your photos.  You can access all photos in your library either from the Photos view or from the "events" view. Each photo is a member of one of the events.
You can define your own "last xxx month" albums with a different date range by defining a smart album from the File menu.
Format the date according to the date format in your region settings.

  • Iphoto not storing photos in Last 2 month folder

Since I upgraded to Os X 10.8 when I download photos from camera,  iphoto is putting the picture in the Last import folder but if you
download again from the camera a new  pictures the previous one do not appear anymore in the Last 2 months folder.( but  they are indeed in the Photo folder.)
Why? Basically my  Last 2 Months folder has only pictures before the upgrade to OS X.
    Any thoughts?

    iPhoto 09?
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto "Last 12 months" only shows 1 month from March-April

On August 24th I imported some film into my iPhoto. Well I finally have a chance to go edit it and it is not there. After searching for it on iPhoto and my computer and an external hard drive- all just in case- I discovered that my iPhoto will only open up photos/video from 3/20/13-4/27/13. It says that that is what I uploaded in the last 12 months...I have uploaded a lot more than that and used it to create videos and export photos from my iPhone.
I can't find my videos anywhere and it is for a project due on Monday.
    Can anyone help?

  • Last twelve Months Folder not updating

When I import photos into iPhoto, not all the photos will go into the Last Twelve Months folder. Some do some don't. They're all from the same camera. Seems like if I import a photo it should go directly into the folder, after all it's a Smart Folder.
I did a search on the Forum because I thought I read at some point there's an issue with Last twelve Months if Photo Stream is enabled. Nothing came up in the search though.

    Joe:
If the problem comes back you may have to try deleting the iPhoto preference file and see if that fixes it permanently.

  • After iPhoto quit unexpectedly, the last 5 months of photos disappeared from my library. Please help!

After iPhoto quit unexpectedly, the last 5 months of photos disappeared from my library. Please help! I can't find them anywhere.

    You're using iPhoto 6?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Is it possible to sync all the email in a folder, not just the last few months worth?

Is it possible to sync all the email in a folder, not just the last few months worth?

    Hi Mengelkemier,
I think you're posting in the wrong forum.  This forum is intended to be used to discuss virtualizing Exchange Server on the the vSphere platform.  The question you're asking seems to be a mobile device specific question.
You would probably get better visibility posting on a forum dedicated to your particular device.  And for what it's worth, some devices will let you sync all of your email and others will only let you sync a certain amount.  It's dependent on the device you're using.
Good luck in finding your answer.

  • I updated to OS X Mavericks and iPhoto 11 and my photos for the last 2 month disappeared.  I have a Mac Mini.

On 10/25/2013 OS X on my Mac mini was updated to Mavericks and iPhoto was updated to iPhoto 11.  Since then the photos in iPhoto from the last 2 months have disappeared.  Has anyone had a similar complaint?  Thank you.  harck.

Since then the photos in iPhoto from the last 2 months have disappeared.
Just a hunch - the "last two month" sounds like an photo stream sync problem.
How did you import the photos from the last two month? Were they in the Photo Stream? Then enable your Photo Stream again in the Sytem Preferences iCloud pane  and iPhoto Preferences iCloud tab. This option might have been disabled. If you did not download your recent photos automatically from from the stream, the photo stram must be disabled to show them.
Also, your "last import" event might be empty after the upgrade of the library. Try to sort your events differently, to bring the last event to the top of the list in "Events" view.

  • Can Aperture not be set up to show a "Last Import" smart folder?

I'm trying to make the transfer from using iPhoto to using Aperture.
One thing I found really great in iPhoto was the smart folder that was simply set to show the last import, no matter when that import was done - whether it was today, yesterday or 6 months ago.
The reason I found this so handy was because I set my iPad up in iTunes to only sync the photos from that Last Import smart folder, rather than all my photos.
That way, every time I synced my iPad, I always had my most recent photos on my iPad, no matter when the pictures were taken.
Now with Aperture, I cannot see a way to create anything similar. The best I can do is to create a smart folder with photos imported within the last month, let's say.
But the problem with that is that if I haven't imported any new photos for over a month, then the next time I sync my iPad, then all my photos will no longer be on the iPad.
If I create a longer timeframe, to let's say 3 months, then I might end up with way too many photos trying to sync across, and that's something I don't want. I could end up with hundreds and hundreds of photos, and I don't have the free space to be able to do this!
When I used "Last Import" with iPhoto, then I always only had around 50 or 60 photos, because that's just generally how many I usually imported at any one time. Sometimes it was more, sometimes less, but the average worked for me.
So to sum up: Can Aperture not be set up to show a "Last Import" smart folder, regardless of date?
Or alternatively, is there any way I could "hack" or "trick" Aperture into doing something like this so that I always have a managable amount of the most recent photos on my iPad?

    Hello Brett,
that does not seem to be an easy probem as you discovered.
    Some Workarounds:
You might to use a smart album rule "Import session is" instead of a date range, but that will not be automatic.
Create a folder "recently added" and keep your recent projects inside that folder; create a smart album at the top level of that folder; move older projects somewhere else.
Or enable the Photo Stream - that is the current replacement for the "most recently added" album; it will (is supposed to) always show the most recent 1000 images.
If you are familiar with AppleScript, you can make Aperture run an AppleScript on import (Import Settings) to add your imported image to an album of new images. From time to time remove the older images.
Sorry, but no really convenient way to do it..

  • I just purchased an external disk drive to store my pictures.  I want to keep the last 12 months of pictures on my iMac and move the rest to the new external drive.  As new pictures are added I want them to be put on the iMac internal drive.  How?

I just purchased an external disk drive to store my growing number of pictures.  I want to keep the last 12 months of pictures on my iMac and move the remaining pictures to the new external drive.  As I take more pictures I want them to be put on the iMac internal drive.  Every 3 to 6 months I would then move some additional pictures to the external drive.  I am nuervous about losing any of the pictures and want to make sure I follow the proper procedure.  What is the right way to handle this?
    Thanks.

Here's one way to do what you want:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using  iPhoto Library Manager

  • Filter 'Last 12 months' error

    Hello,
I have udated my iPhoto but the filter 'Last 12 months' on the left seems to be corrupted. It displays some photos taken at the year of 2002,2003...
I am using the french version of iPhoto and I have rebuild the database.
    Any idea ?

    masterfab:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. If that doesn't fix the issue rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Missing last two months of photos

A friend of mine who takes lots of photos and processes them in iPhoto just bought a new iMac and transferred all his files to the new computer. When he opened iPhoto, he discovered that all the photos he had imported into iPhoto for the last two months are missing. These photos are also missing when he opens iPhoto on his old Mac. When we checked his Time Machine backups, the photos were missing there as well. All of which suggests that my friend has inadvertently been using iPhoto to edit photos that live somewhere other than the iPhoto Library database. Is this possible? Can one accidentally import a card full of photos to another location and edit them in iPhoto without importing them into the iPhoto Library? Is it possible to accidentally create a new iPhoto Library that lives somewhere other than the ~/Pictures folder? I have been unable to get Spotlight to find even my friend's primary iPhoto Library, much less another one stored in an unexptected location.
Can anyone suggest an efficient way of sifting through all the files on his hard drive to find the hidden storehouse of photos that aren't showing up in iPhoto? Any useful suggestions greatly appreciated. My friend is quite distraught over the apparent loss of so many pictures, and I have absolutely no idea what might have happened to them.
    Thanks!

If the Library has been on anothe volume then, yes it is possible:
    In the Finder:
Use the Go Menu and select 'Go To Folder'
    In the resulting window type
    /Volumes
And hit return. A Finder window will open at that location. Can you see another iPhoto Library there? If so, drag it to the desktop

  • Removing "last 12 months" album

So, I've noticed that my iPhone and iPad have a folder in the Photos app labled "Last 12 Months" with one picture in it that is apparently from my mac desktop.  I deleted this photo from my mac MONTHS ago yet its still apearing on both my iPad and iPhone within that folder.  I checked iPhoto to make sure it wasn't still in that program and sure enough, it WASN'T.  How do I either remove this folder or delete the photo (neither my iPhone or iPad give me that option for photos in this album)??

You can remove the album from the left hand pane by setting the number of months to 0 in iPhoto's General preferences pane.
Have you tried changing the dates with the option to change the original files? Then export the original files out of iPhoto and reimport them. See if that will get the correct dates.

  • Trying to restore photos from external drive and realized TimeMachine had been turned off.  Found in Imac backup folder in iPhoto library a modified folder with many of the missing pics.  Can I restore these?

I recently had a hard drive crash on my iMac.  After replacing the drive, I discovered that TimeMachine had apparently been turned off for six months, and all my photos from that period were missing after the restore.  In looking on the external drive used by TimeMachine, I discovered a folder called Imac backup, and under iPhoto Library was a folder called Originals and subfolders for each year.  To my surprise, there were photos covering the missing time period!  Somehow I imported the 2011 folder from the external drive into iPhoto, and then I discovered they were small files of less than 100 KB each, not the 1-2 MB original photos.  So now all of 2011 is screwed up, not just from May on.  These photos also include faces pulled from many larger group photos.
I can get Jan - April restored using TimeMachine.  But in continuing to explore the Imac backup folder, I found a similar folder in iPhoto Library called Modified.  This folder has many of the missing photos in their original MB size in folders indexed by date for the missing period after April.  Is there a way that I can get these modified photos back onto my new hard drive and into the iPhoto library without causing more damage?  If TimeMachine was turned off after April, how did those modified photos and all those small images from the missing period find their way to the external drive?
    Any wisdom greatly appreciated.

What you want to do is merge the two Libraries? The only way to do this is to use the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
I created a new iPhoto Library on the iMac and dragged the entire iPhoto Library from the MacBook into that new Library. It worked, however it all came over into one big album and my previous album structure was gone
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.

  • Photos and movies don't appear in Events/Photos but do appear in Last 12 months

Hello. I'm using the latest version of iPhoto 11 (9.1.1). When I browse through my photos via the Events or Photos section of the iPhoto sidebar (under Library), certain photos and movies are missing. They simply don't appear there at all. However, when I click the "Last 12 Months" section of the iPhoto sidebar (under Recent), the photos and movies are there. If I try re-importing the missing photos and movies I'm told they are duplicates, so they must be in my iPhoto Library - they just refuse to show up under Events or Photos! I've tried ticking all the rebuild options by holding down command and option when I start iPhoto, but to no avail. Perhaps there's a setting I've inadvertently ticked that hides certain photos and movies? Hidden Photos is ticked under the View menu. I have View > Sort Photos set to "By date" / "Ascending".
    Thanks for all your help!
    Cheers,
    Greg

since both last 12 months and events or photos are simply different views of the same photos in your library they are there - the most common issue is incorrect dates so you are looking in the wrong event - you can find the event by selecting the photo in the last 12 months view and and right clicking and using the show event command - you can correct the dates by selecting the photo and using the photos menu ==> adjust time/date command
