IPhoto launches on startup

Ever since I've started using my iPhone, iPhoto always launces when I start my Mac. This happens whether or not the phone is connected. Any thoughts?
I recall in OS9 there was a startup items folder. Does that exist anymore. Don't see anything similar in system preferences.
Thanks

  • IPhoto launching at startup, iSight no longer works, 10.4.8 to blame?

My built-in iSight (first 17" intel iMac) is "in use by another application" when I attempt to use it from iMovie, iChat, or Photo Booth. When I tried disconnecting everything and rebooting, I discovered that iPhoto is launching at startup.
The only thing I can think of that has changed recently is a system update about a week ago, including 10.4.8 and whatever apps were updated.
iPhoto is not set to launch in either the StartupItems folder or my user's login items. It also does not show as checked when I ctrl-click on it in the dock.
So far I've tried resetting the PRAM and installing MacOSXUpd10.4.8Intel.dmg to no avail. I see a reference to a "Combo Update" in another unrelated thread (network problems). Does anyone recommend this? Or am I just hosed until 10.5 comes out.

Problem solved. It was a digital camera driver which is no longer compatible since the new update.
03: Check your system console and see if you have any malloc errors. Are you using anything you had to install drivers for? You get the starfish for being considerate enough to reply. I hope you get it worked out.

  • IPhoto launches on startup after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I am using an Intel Mini and upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now, on startup Iphoto launches and is apparently seeing my Kodak ESP 5 printer as a camera. If I turn off the printer before starting the Mac, iPhoto does not auto-launch. There are no SD Ram cards in the printer that would be confused for a camera connected by USB. Is there any way to fix this?

Stil_III, this is the reponse I reached from Kodak
Andrew Healey (13:22:24): I have a 5300 Kodak all in one printer. I have a Mac. I have just installed Mac OS 10.6 and everytime I strat up my machine iPhoto opens and thinks the Kodak printer is a camera and sets it up as a "EasyShare Ai" device. I have checked the Apple support site and a number of other Mac users are experiencing the same issue. I updated the Easy Share software and firmware.
(13:22:24)[An agent will be with you shortly.]
    (13:22:41 PM)[You are now chatting with Vishal J .]
Vishal J (13:22:47 PM): Welcome to Kodak, my name is Vishal. Please wait while I review your question.
Vishal J (13:24:30 PM): As I understand, whenever you turn on your printer, you get popup of camera detected?
Andrew Healey (13:25:55 PM): No everytime start up my computer iPhoto launches as it thinks I have a camera called EasyShare Ai attached
Vishal J (13:29:37 PM): I will take care of the issue.
Vishal J (13:29:57 PM): May I have the Kodak Service Number of the printer? It is located under the Access panel towards the left side on a white bar-coded sticker on the printer.
Andrew Healey (13:30:41 PM): Sorry but I am at work and do not have access to the printer
    Vishal J (13:30:54 PM): Not a problem.
Vishal J (13:32:16 PM): Andrew, I would like to inform you that as your Kodak printer has scanner in it. Scanner use the same drivers as the camera. Therefore whenever you turn on the printer, it detects the camera. I would like to inform you that it is normal.
Andrew Healey (13:33:04 PM): Vishal J but this did not happen with Mac OS 10.5. Is it a new issue?
Vishal J (13:34:56 PM): Andrew, probably in your Mac OS 10.5 autoplay options would be disabled, as in normal scenarios, autoplay options are enabled so that it can automatically detect the other devices, like your printer, cameras, CD etc.
Andrew Healey (13:35:46 PM): OK thanks I will check my setiings tonight. Vishal thanks for your help. Andrew
Vishal J (13:36:02 PM): You are welcome.

  • Finder won't launch at startup

What's the best way out of a problem which stops the Finder launching at startup? I have no idea why my recently clean-installed system seems to spontaneously start corrupting in the middle of innocuous tasks but here's my own grisly log of this issue:
    1. Erase Boot Camp partition
    2. Create new Boot Camp partition
    3. Install Windows XPsp2 and Apple Boot Camp drivers
    4. Boot into Windows, install 2 apps, all ok
    5. Boot into Mac Os
    6. Disk Utility Verify Disk reports all ok
    7. Repair permissions
    8. TextEdit freezes while saving to desktop
    9. Finder is inaccessible although cursor moves
    10. Force power down
    11. Reboot but icons don't load and menubar is incomplete and transparent
    12. Message: Finder quit unexpectedly on startup
    13. Message: SystemUI Server quit unexpectedly on startup
    14. Finder Report:
    Identifier: Finder
    Verdsion: ??? (???)
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Crashed Thread: 3
(unable to scroll to remainder of report)
    15. Repeat 10-14 above with same result
    16. Boot into external FW drive (10.5.1)
    17. Very slow
    18. Click on Disk Utility in Dock and it disappears in puff of smoke.
    19. Open DU from Applications folder and Verify Disk reports internal Mac partition is ok
    20. However DU unable to verify new Boot Camp volume as it "could not be unmounted".
    21. Open Boot Camp volume but no files or folders visible.
    22. Repair permissions on internal Mac disk.
23 Reboot into internal Mac partition
    24 Repeat 11-14 above
    25. Force power down and reboot into Safe Mode
    26. Repeat 11-14 above
Does anyone have a clue what might be going on? Meanwhile, is there anything short of (yet another) system reinstall which might fix it? I have a Time Machine backup - not as current as I would like but that may be A Good Thing. But I keep having issues with this iMac after 5 weeks of perfect running... ever since the 10.5.2/Graphics/Quicktime 7.4.1 updates to be precise.
Is it conceivable that my symptoms are hardware related? Even after a zero erase and full reinstallation a week ago, I can't seem to keep the machine running properly.
I have a very similarly configured Intel MacBookPro which has behaved impeccably - but it is still running 10.5.1.
    Thanks for any help.

Well, there has been a resounding silence so I guess y'all are out enjoying your weekend instead of poring over the forums.
Just to follow on with the next chapter: I booted one more time into my external drive and ran DU Verify Disk on my startup volume again. It passed it as OK. I then ran DiskWarrior 4.1 over the disk. It also passed it as OK. Finally, I ran all the TechTool Deluxe 3.12 hardware tests and the big one failed. It reported problems with the volume structure and attempted (but failed) to repair the Leaf Record Count in the Catalog B-Tree.
I guess it's possible that TT was wrong and the others were right but in view of the problems I'm having, I figure TT has to be right. So I'm now writing zeros to the Mac partition and will restore from Time Machine to a week-old backup which was carefully checked before backing up.
I just wish I knew what caused these problems. This is the second time in a fortnight that I have had to erase and reinstall - and it's becoming a full time job! Anyway, this is definitely the last time. If the disk goes kaput again, Apple can have my iMac back.

  • TS1717 I cannot get iTunes to automatically launch at startup in Windows 7. I need it to do this so my Apple TV 'finds' my Music Library, which is stored on an external hard-drive, connected to my Windows 7 PC.

I cannot get iTunes to automatically launch at startup in Windows 7. I need it to do this so my Apple TV 'finds' my Music Library, which is stored on an external hard-drive, connected to my Windows 7 PC. Anyone know how I do this? I cannot seem to find anything on Google, which is surprising.
iTunes helper launches OK, but not iTunes itself. Am I being dim?
    Thanks

The iTunes application should be installed on the system drive. You may need to repair iTunes to fix that error regarding a missing .exe.

  • Transferred pics from iPhoto, now every time connect iPod iPhoto launches

And i don't want it to. I got the photos I wanted from iPhoto onto my iPod, but now every time I connect my iPod Touch to my MBPro iPhoto launches. Please help me make this stop. Went through everything in Prefs for both programs, to no avail.
    Thanks in advance!

    1. It will only happen when there are photos in the "Saved Photos" folder in Photos on the iPod. You can empty that folder and it will stop launching iPhoto.
    2. You can turn this off from Image Capture or iPhoto Prefs. But turning this off will also prevent iPhoto from launching when you connect a camera or SD card.
Preferences (in iPhoto) -> General (at the top) -> Conecting Camera opens -> and click on no application
    OR
Preferences (in Image Capture) -> When a camera is connected: select no application

  • Why does iPhoto launch Chrome

why does iPhoto launch Google Chrome when I Check For Updates?

    Hello Tara,
iPhoto is launching because you have saved photos on your iPod Touch. If you remove them and try to reconnect your iPod, iPhoto will no longer launch. Saved photos could include saved email attachments as well as screen shots you have taken on your iPod Touch.
Go to the "Saved Photos" album under Photos and delete all the photos from that album and that should do the trick for you.

  • ITunes auto launches on startup (no iPod/Phone connected)

For the last couple of weeks (perhaps longer) I've noticed iTunes launches itself whenever I restart my MacBook Pro.
There is no iPhone connected at the time.
Everything is up to date in software.
I've removed iTunes helper from my login items.
    I'm at a loss.
Your assistance in resolving this matter would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers!
    Darcy

I just tried restarting again, this time with iTunes last closed on my music tab rather than the store tab, where I realized it had been parked for some time.
iTunes still auto launched on startup, though after a longer delay than usual.
AND after I quit iTunes, it auto launched itself again. That was a first.
    For what it's worth.

  • When I plug in my new iPad, iPhoto launches instead of iTunes.  How can I get iTunes to launch rather that iPhoto?

I have recently purchased an iPad.  When I plug it in, iPhoto launches rather than iTunes.  I would like iTunes to open when I plug in.  Thoughts?

    Coyote-
With the iPad connected, open iTunes.  Click on the iPad under DEVICES on the left side.  Under the Options window, check "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected".
In iPhoto Preferences-General, Connecting camera opens: may be what controls whether or not iPhoto launches.  I have mine set to "No application".

  • Stop auto launching at startup??

How do I get Spotify to stop auto launching at startup of my desktop?  I have looked all over and cannot find the option.
    Thanks.

Here's another "me too" followed by what I've done so far. In Windows 7, about three weeks ago my Spotify started loading at startup.I checked preferences, for some reason the option had changed on its own to load at startup. I reset to "do NOT load" at startupThe next time I rebooted, it started up on its own again. I checked settings, they had changed back again. Again I fixed my preferencesThe NEXT time I rebooted, it happened again! This time I not only changed the setting back to NOT load at startup, I also opened MSCONFIG and checked the TWO, count-em, TWO entries of Spotify to prevent loading at startup. Pop up box suggested restartiing the computer. I did, no Spotify loaded. Yay...for now...however,Two hours later I took my laptop with me on a business visit. When I turned on the computer, Spotify loaded AGAIN.I again opened MSCONFIG and found FOUR, count-em, FOUR entries of Spotify I had to check to prevent loading at startup. This is getting very frustrating. It's my belief that some recent upgrade to Spotify is causing this, as it only started a few weeks ago. Someone with Spotify needs to check into this! Help me Obi Wan!!

  • IPhoto launches when I switch my iPhone on. Why?

I have a Macbook Pro and I charge my iPhone 3GS from it. When I switch the phone on (from being fully off), iPhoto launches. How can I make this stop? As far as I can see there are no photos on the phone needing to be imported into iPhoto.
    Thanks!

It's a Preference setting which I believe you find in iPhoto.
Pretty much every photo app has a preference to open automtically if it sees a camera attached to the USB port and it is seeing your iPhone as a camera (which it is)
If it's nt in the iPhoto preferences, it will be in the iTunes preferences

  • How to stop iPhoto launch when saving pictures in Safari?

How do I stop iPhoto from automatically launching or coming to the front of the screen every time I want to save a picture I find using Safari?  It's incredibly annoying that each time I click to save one, iPhoto just jumps right into my face.
    Thanks!

    Hi Neil -
Thanks for getting back so quickly.  Unfortunately this didn't do the trick.
Perhaps I should have been more specific: I'm "adding the photos" to my library.  Each time I do this iPhoto launches.
    Thanks!

  • Anyone know how to get iTunes to launch on startup and minimize itself?

Anyone know how to get iTunes to launch on startup and minimize itself?

have you tried adding iTunes to your login items via system preferences > accounts > login items and checking the little box next to it

  • Dock won't launch at startup for all users

Any thoughts on why the Dock app won't launch at startup. This happens for both my admin account and the guest account. I am running OSX 10.8.2 on a 2008 MacBook Pro. Previous to this issue I had been messing/deleting the plists associated with the Dock (as per other discussions) because of the Dock process taking up 100% of the CPU and getting the box hot. This issue has of course resulted in the Dock not appearing, as well as Alt-Tab not working, reminders not working menu bar, and other Dock functions. I can launch the Dock app via the terminal but it's still wonky, like the iTunes (newest) GUI doesn't function and the DVD player won't work (seems to be a similar GUI issue). For now I've stuck the Dock app in the users login preferences but that's a bad work around since there are the other symptoms that are still going on.
    Thoughts?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application (Dock) or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • What is the "iTunesHelper" App that is set to launch at startup?

What is the "iTunesHelper" App that is set to launch at startup?
What does it do? Do I need it, or is it something I don't need or want?
It is not only set to start at startup, but it is also set to be "invisible".

    It's inside the iTunes package.
Control-click on iTunes and choose 'Show Package Contents'
Then navigate to Contents>Resources. iTunesHelper itself is also a package.
The preferences and .plist files don't give me a clue about exactly what it is doing.
The link provided by William is a possible (and plausible) explanation.
Afaik there is no official document from Apple, explaining what it does.
If you disable it, your iPod (if you have one) will not launch iTunes if necessary.
