IPHOTO LIBRARY ICON TURNED INTO MANAGED FOLDER

I recently moved my iPhoto library from Time Capsule to an exthd and now I see 'folders' for my iPhoto libraries instead of that main icon (which I used to simply click on and it launched the program).
Originally this exthd was on my PC. I took this exthd and reformatted for my Mac. I then connected the exthd to the Time Capsule which is hooked up to the main house PC (diff from mine) - and this is where it gets strange..... I was unable to see the TC (nor the exthd) from this main PC so I went back on MY PC and there I was able to manipulate the data between the exthd and TC. I transferred all necessary data from TC to this exthd.
All seemed fine until I hooked up the exthd to my Mac and tried to launch iPhoto. I see folders instead of that icon for the libraries. How do I launch the program to open up my library? I'm not sure what I did to make that change or if I did something wrong. Anyone know?
I would appreciate the help! Thx!

Maybe I made this more confusing than necessary, eh? Sorry! I don't even know if all this background explanation matters. In case it does, I've tried to do a better job explaining below. But what it boils down to is the fact that my libraries, which are now stored on an exthd, which is hardwired to my mac, are showing up as folders. Is there any way to convert them back to the package bundle?
---> I still have the libraries on the TC showing in the common package bundle and I'm able to open them with no problems.
background babble:
We have 3 computers. 2 windows os(pc#1 and pc#2) and 1 mac. The main pc (pc#1) has the TC hardwired and pc#2 and mac are wireless to this network. I was having lots of problems with iPhoto and was informed that my troubles were due to the fact that I have my libraries stored on the TC and am accessing them wirelessly. I wanted to avoid any major issues in the future so I converted my exthd from pc#2 for use with the mac. After completing that, I hardwired the exthd to the TC and copied the libraries. Once copied to the exthd, I hardwired this unit to the mac. Both libraries show up as folders. I don't understand what happened.

  • "iPhoto Library" icon/folder deleted by mistake, how do i recover it?

Fist off i am not a iMac genius, so bear with me as you read .  I Just bought an Imac (21.5 monitor and 1TB with OS X Lion 2012 version).  After transferring all my photos in the "Picture" folder (click, drag and drop into the "finder" then into the "picture" folder (not iPhoto yet) I then selected all the photos (dozens of folders and over 8,000 photos) click and drag then into iPhoto and they all successfully transferred (which took several minutes).  I noticed when transferring most of the photos over it gave me the option to either transfer or discard duplicates, i chose to not import the duplicates.  Since i had ALL my photos in iPhoto i decided to delete the old file that i copied earlier and empty the trash.  In the deleting frenzy i accidentally deleted the "iPhoto Library" icon/folder )or whatever that picture is) and every time I open up iPhoto now it asked to either locate "iPhoto Album 1" (which can not be found) or start another album (which would be "iphoto Library 2" which opens up with none of my pictures.)  Sooooo, after freaking out i downloaded 2 file recovery software program which seems to have found most if not all the pics (still need to pay to get a key code to get them back), however since i delted the photos that transferred into the finder>picture folder and did not delete any photos form iPhoto itself is there a way to get back the "iPhoto Library" that housed all my pictures?  In theory all my pics are still in the hard drive but i do not know where to look for that little "iPhoto Library" icon/folder.  What is the best Apple/Mac recovery software to purchase to get them back?  Or are they all the same?  Or is there a file buried deep in the hard drive that are hiding all my photos that tech support can guide me to?  And if there is, how to i search for that?  Any help would be great!

however since i delted the photos that transferred into the finder>picture folder and did not delete any photos form iPhoto itself is there a way to get back the "iPhoto Library" that housed all my pictures?
    No.
Inside that package are thouands of files - your photos, thumbnails, face thumbnails, database, metadata, cache and other files. To reconstruct the Library you would need to get all of these in exactly all the correct locations. That's not going to happen.
Best you can hope for is to recover the actual photos and then start over from scratch.
Unless you have a back up of course...
    Do you?

  • IMovie 09, project keeps getting turned into a folder

My girlfriend has been trying to make a movie in iMovie 09, and each time the project turns into a folder. When I go to look at it in the Project Library, it has a folder icon and the name of the project. When I open up the folder, it just has folders that say Proxies and Quicklook. She's worked on several different projects, but this is the only one that this keeps happening to. It's very frustrating because she loses all of her work and has to start over again from scratch each time! Any ideas?

    I found the cure!
    1. Move the folder that is your project to ~/Movies
    2. Add the .rcproject extension to the folder. This will make it a proper iMovie project bundle.
    It should look like ~/Movies/MyProject.rcproject
This worked for me like a charm!

  • Why do I have 2 iPhoto Library icons?

    Hello
    I have 2 unrelated issues. (I believe)
First, In my home folder...picutures folder, I have 2 iPhoto Library icons. one with a date modified 20/6/2010 size 45.98GB. the other date modified Today 44.65 GB. In the last few days I have been deleting some photos that were not so good, so I gather the smaller icon shows the iphoto I have been using. What should I do? I gather I do not need both.
Should I delete the older one by dragging to trash or move to a back up disc first
    Please advise
    Secondly
While in the process of cutting photos, I have come across sections of my photos where there are 2 of each photo. the original named xxx.jpg and the copy xxx2. I have been manually delting xxx2 ones but I am not really sure if this is the right way to go. There was a section where there were over a hundred duplicates. I am certain these were not here before and I have not connected my camera in weeks. Whenever I do connect my camera I choose the option 'do not import duplicates'. Any idea what is happening here?
    Thanks
    Jeff

You seem to have duplicated your iPhoto Library on or around June 20 last.
Open then both to compare the contents: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
Yes, you can trash the duplicate once you're sure it's a duplicate.
Should I delete the older one by dragging to trash or move to a back up disc first
You need a back up no matter what.
For dealing with duplicates in iPhoto check out Duplicate Annihilator

  • HT1338 why has my download navigator icon turned into a ?

why has the download navigator icon turned into a ?.

    What is "navigator"?
Where exactly is this ? appearing? In the Dock?
If a question mark appears in the Dock it normally means the actual file/folder/app has been moved and the Dock doesn't know where it is.  You will have to find this "navigator" and drop it into the Dock.

  • IPhoto Library icon has changed

Yesteday, I updated my iMac (Late 2009) to Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and installed the newest version of iPhoto (9.4.1).
All seemed to be working well until a few hours ago. Things I have noticed:
    1)  The iPhoto Library icon has changed to a pink flower (although the iPhoto application icon and the iPhoto dock icon have stayed at the usual (sun/camera/palm tree).
    2)  iPhoto is taking about 12 seconds to quit (I have about 8,000 photos)
    3)  Keywords is behaving strangely - some photos have keywords attached to them which I haven't put there (some of the time) and sometimes the keyword list (command K) shows up with none of my keywords.
    4) This one might be my imagination but the font used for the folders/albums looks a bit different than it used to.....!
    Hope someone can help!
    Regards

1 and 4: Nothing unusual there, Apple change these things around from time to time.
    2 and 3:
    Back up.
    Option 1
Try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I accidentally ran iPhoto Library Upgrader on my Picture folder and now I have to right click on it to "show contents" instead of looking at it in Finder.  Help!

Help!  I have 2 problems related to iPhoto:
1:  I accidentally ran iPhoto Library Upgrader on my Picture folder and now I have to right click on it to "show contents" instead of double clicking on it and looking at it in Finder.  I cannot figure out how to fix my Pictures Folder so that I can click on it and view it in Finder, when I double click on it Terminal opens up with this message  "Pictures - Bash 80x24"  and
Last login: Mon Nov  3 14:00:05 on ttys000
    Christinas-MacBook-Pro:Pictures christinagrierson$
It will not let me replace or delete the folder...  I got to my files and backed them up, but trying to avoid reinstalling my OS.
2:  When I try to Upgrade my Library.iPhoto file so I can open it in iPhoto it says I need to finish by opening in iPhoto, but then when I do, it tells me it first needs to be upgraded in the iPhoto Library Upgrader... Vicious circle.  Please, help!  Just trying to recover about 3 years worth of photos...

    Hi!  Thanks for responding!
I have iPhoto 9.5.1, I am on OS X Version 10.9.5 on a MacBook Pro with 2.66 GHz
My current "iPhoto Library" file is OK (I can open it with iPhoto), however I cannot access the old one from iPhoto 6 titled Library.iPhoto
I tried right clicking and choosing the application, it did not work.
"exactly how did you "I got to my files and backed them up"" - I showed the contents of my Pictures folder, and it opened up the folders in Finder and I copied them to an external hard drive.  In my Picture folder I have several folders of Photos plus the iPhoto Library files (old & current)
I do have old back ups, but they are from April, and I recently imported 5 months of photos from my iPhone, so the iPhoto Library I copied after showing contents is the one I need.

  • I accidentally moved my iPhoto library.  Now it says "folder empty" and I can't find any of my photos anywhere.  HELP!

I was trying to clean up my startup disk and get some space freed up.  I moved a bunch of stuff to my dropbox (temporary measure until I get a backup drive).  I didn't realize my iphoto library is actually in my documents folder.  I copy the whole folder to dropbox, and then delete the contents on my hard drive.  When I go to dropbox and look at my iphoto library, it's empty.  Are my photos just gone?  Can they be recovered?  HELLLLPPP!!!!

By default your iPhoto library is in the pictures folder not the documents folder - you should have it in the pictures folder to avoid errors like this
You probably lost your iPhoto library as generally the iphoto library is corrupted often beyond repair by putting it on DropBox - as a future note NEVER delete any important files until you have verified that you have a good copy  --  and also for the future purchase an external drive formatted Mac OS extended (jourmnaled)  roughly 2 to 2 1/2 times the size of your main drive and start running TimeMachine all the time so you have hourly local backups
If you do not have a backup then all you can do it drag the iPhoto library back form DropBox to the pictures folder and hold down the option key while launching iPhoto and select the library n the pictures folder - if that does not work then you will have to start over - hopefully your Masters folder is intact and has all of you original photos - to start over drag it to the desktop, trash the messed up library and launch iPhoto to create a new library and drag the folders of photos from the Masters folder to iPhoto to import them

  • Please help needed os x lion I wish to transfer photos from the iPhoto library to a album or folder then delete them from the Library but when I do this it also deletes them from the album ? how do I do this please.

Please help needed os x lion I wish to transfer photos from the iPhoto library to a album or folder then delete them from the Library but when I do this it also deletes them from the album ? how do I do this please.

Albums are not places to store photos, they're more like "labels" you can apply to photos to better organize them. A single image file can be in multiple albums... they are not copies, it's simply been labelled as being in all those albums. So what you're trying to do doesn't make sense, because it's based on incorrect assumptions.
The iPhoto library will always show all photos that you have added to iPhoto.

  • Does Adobe have a 'fix' for the problem of desktop icons turning into Adobe icons after a previous Adobe update?

After a previous Adobe update, all of my desktop icons turned into Adobe icons. I'm not sure how it happened - I just looked away from my computer for a second and when I looked back, there they were!
Does Adobe have a 'fix' for this problem?  I have had to uninstall Adobe in order to use my other programs, but I teach and I use Adobe documents quite often, so now I can't open those.

Try some of the solutions here ---> Application, file icons change to Acrobat/Reader icon

  • Can't attach photos -- "Preview" only shows iPhoto library Icon

I can't attach (or upload) photos anymore. When I try to attach a photo using Mail (not directly from iPhoto), I only get the iPhoto Library icon and Preview doesn't show any of my various pictures. If I click on the Library icon, Mail tries to attach my entire photo library and then my iMac locks up. I have the same problem if I try to upload pictures to say an ebay auction. I'm using the new iLife '08.
Basically, I cannot get a listing of all my individual pictures -- only the iPhoto Library icon. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic. You can also drag and drop directly from the iPhoto Window to the Mail window. This works with many other apps.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy. This is the best solution for uploading pics to ebay or where ever. After the upload is finished you can trash the file on the desktop, it's only a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.

  • What happened to my iPhoto Library icon

How do I return my iPhoto Library Icon to what it is supposed to be.
This is what it is in Finder>Pictures
I don't know how this change occurred and would like to be corrected.

Add the following suffix to it
    .photolibrary
so that it reads iPhoto Library.photolibrary

  • Iphoto library icon in finder now shows as iphoto.app so cannot use finder

I used to be able to use finder to go to my iphoto library and then view each sub-folder for various rolls. Finder showed these by year and also originals versus modified versions. Somehow this iphoto folder is now linked to the iphoto.app so I cannot see the rolls in finder, it automatically takes me into iphoto. Did something change in iphoto or perhaps Leopard to cause this change to the folder properties or is it possible I somehow changed this accidentally? My library seems okay when viewed from Iphoto, but I cannot view the folder structure in finder so it is driving me nuts. Thanks!

I should be able to be on my MySpace page, click on the upload photo thing, and have my photos available.
    They are.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • IPhoto copying unedited pictures into modified folder!

    Hi everybody!
recently I've noticed the size of my iPhoto library growing without me adding any photos, so I checked the folders and discovered that whole events had been copied into the modified folder without me even having edited them!
I marked all those pictures and clicked on "back to original", but when I checked the modified folder again, I could watch while the same pictured were being copied in there again!!
Does anyone else have this problem and if yes, how can it be stopped?
    Thanks in advance,
    Phil

First try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and try importing again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Next, if necessary, log into another user account on your Mac, launch iPhoto and import some test images to see if the situation is repeated. If so then a reinstall of iPhoto is warranted. To do so you'll have to first delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder, reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came on and reapply the latest updaters.
