Iphoto library is gone and I can't access iphoto in time machine!

I've lost my iphoto library - and I've looked (searched for .jpgs) and the photos are no longer on my computer. It must have been when I deleted a folder I'd called iphoto library 2 which was a copy of a couple of albums - or at least I thought that's what I deleted. And then I emptied the trash. And now it seems that those 2 albums are the only ones left in iphoto.
So I felt sick to my stomach - but I thought thank goodness I do time machine back ups from time to time... BUT I can't seem to find them on my time machine backup either. I opened time machine with iphoto open but I can't access anything behind the front (current) window. And I only just learned that if iphoto is still open time machine can't back up your iphoto library properly (am I the only one this is news to?)
I hope someone can help. Thanks!
(iphoto'09 8.1.2 )

In addition to the links that Larry provided, you can restore your iPhoto Library from Time Machine as described here:
iPhoto '11: Restoring from Time Machine with iPhoto '11 (9.2 or later) and OS X Lion 10.7.2 (or later) - Apple Support
The procedure should work even with iPhoto '09 and Mac OS X (10.6.8).

  • The image of backup disk "/Volumes/Data-1/MacBook Pro di Marco .sparsebundle" is used already. And I can't access to my time machine... :(

Hi, today my time capsule has restarted a new backup, I don't know why, and also it has appeared this message: The image of backup disk “/Volumes/Data-1/MacBook Pro di Marco .sparsebundle” is used already. And I can't access to my time machine...
Does anybody know what I've to do?
    Tnx!

Yes, please check out this Pondini article for further details on how to solve this problem.

  • My IPhoto library is gone and I cannot find it. I have found an earlier version witha few photos but the big one is gone. Any ideas?

My IPhoto library is gone and cannot be found. There is an IPhoto in Applications marked "original". I can find the one I'm looking for using Time Machine but when I try to open it it says that it cannot be opened as there is a newer version installed. Any help would greatly be appreciated:-)

Download and use  Find Any File  to search for the file "Library6.iPhoto" which is in every iPhoto Library package. If you find more than one check both to see if one is your missing library.

  • I can't access my wireless time machine backup.

When I try to access my backup files wirelessly it says enter your name and password for the server "Base Station ddb9a1".  I do not know my name and password.  I had did a clean install to upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion.  I used the migration assistant, but I can't access my wireless time machine backup. Please someone help.

    Hello,
I would like an answer to this question as well. As this is a time capsule and not a Airport extreme question I think here is a better start.
I'm planning on getting a Time Capsule but have been backing up to a 500GB USB drive connected directly to my MacBook. It's probably only a month or 2 worth of back ups and not that big of a deal but if i get a Time Capsule and want to access the old back ups it would be nice to know if that is possible and if so how it can be done. I was thinking it might be possible to use something like Carbon Copy Cloner and move the back up file to the Time Capsule drive and erase the external that I have now, and have Time Machine use that file like it has been doing from the wired drive.
I will look around the posts and see if I can find anything. In the mean time if someone finds something it would be nice if you could put the link in this discussion.
    Cheers,

  • I seem to have lost albums in iphoto and i can't find them in time machine either

I have lost the last few albums created in iphoto and they don't seem yo be in time machine either

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is you library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • I can't update iPhoto, GarageBand nor iMovie, and I can't open iPhoto at all.

I can't update iPhoto, GarageBand nor iMovie, and iPhoto is the only one I can't open at all. I bought my Macbook half a year ago and when I try to update the Apps it says it's being modified and then that there was an error with Apple Store ):

There is an issue with update servers today, so you'll have to wait anyway.

  • Emails missing from Mail - can't access backups from Time Machine

To my dismay both of my gmail accounts through the mail client will only show me emails from the last 30 days. I went to check gmail through Safari and the same story, I'm locked out of emails from before the last 30 days. This is not only on my Mac, but also on my iPad and iPhone.
I attempted to go into Time Machine and do a restore, but the same thing is happening and I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be. For some reason even when Time Machine pulls up my email backups I can see stuff from every year but 2013 and the beginning of 2014. It starts populating the backup to show me my emails, but nothing appears and I know those emails have to exist somewhere.
Does anyone know if this is some kind of code error that caused this, or if there is anyway to get around it? Having an entire year's worth of emails missing is really problematic for me as you can expect. Does anyone know how to remedy this?

  • I can't access my own Time Machine backups in ML

A couple days ago I did an "erase and install" ML in my MacBook Pro. I had tested Time Machine backups and a bootable clone of my Lion system, so I was truly confident I had everything safe.
But no. When registering my Mac as "new", I chose a subtle different name for my main account. Maybe that was the problem? When I tried to recover my old files using TM, nothing was available. The dreaded "read only" batch was on every folder. I don't have permission to access any. I tried to use my Admin password to unlock and change permissions, to no avail, even using "apply to enclosing folders". In the Info window I can see myself now as the "owner", and my privileges as "read and write", but it's not working.
Is there a bug or anything fixable about this issue?
    JJ

There doesn't seem to be an exact solution for this, but here are some suggestions:
Have you tried gaining access by connecting your Mac to the LAN port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)?
Have you tried disabling the Firewall on the Mac?

  • Can't access files though time machine

In Time Machine I can see that folders are there but when I try to restore them I get nothing. I might get an empty folder that says "xxx(original)" but nothing's in it. Or I get a message about lacking permission. Is there a practical way to get at files without going through the TM interface? I presume they're on the backup drive somewhere.

Hmm, after digging into TM's files through the Finder I finally managed to recover everything. TM itself, at least in terms of restoration, remains a bit of a mystery though.

  • Unable to restore from Time Machine after an erase and reinstall - MacbookPro cannot access my old Time Machine backup volume. Desperate for help please?

My MacbookPro would not move past the Apple logo and spinning wheel for a number of hours.  After trying the numerous suggestions to solve the issue I eventually opted to erase and reinstall feeling confident my Time Machine backups would come to the rescue.  After a successful erase and reinstall I tried to restore all my data from my TIme Capsule using Command-R during start up and by using the Migration Assistant.  Neither worked and I have received messages to the effect that the backup volumes on my Time Capsule cannot be access because I have entered a wrong password or because the backup volume is damaged.
When I open my Time Capsule in Finder and click on my sparsebundle I get an eror message saying that the disk image could not be opened and that the resource is temporarily unavailable.
Desperate for some help and comfort that many years of personal data have not been lost.
    Thank you.

  • Recently moved iTunes library to external and now can't access files

I recently moved my entire library of songs (15.3G) from internal HD on eMac to external Seagate HD. Problem is that I can see all the songs listed in iTunes, but the column next to song name has an ! against every song.
If I go back to the external and follow the path, I'm able to select a song and it will play in iTunes, but none of the songs are accessible. The error message is "'Song Name' could not be used because the original file could not be found".
I'm hoping someone can help me.
Incidentally, I did the same with my iPhoto collection and have had no probs accessing.
    Thanks!

And you changed the directory of the songs to the external as well?

If so, you may need to rebuild your library:

  • I needed to update the software on my iPhone4 so I could get icloud to save all my stuff so I can upgrade to iPhone 5, but when I did it did a restore and now all my stuff is in my library on itunes and I can't access it

I had to update the software on my iphone 4 so I could get icloud and backup everything on my phone, so I can go this morning and get an iphone 5, but when I did it did a restore and took everything off my phone, like aps, pictures and music.  They are in the itunes library, but I dont know how to get them back on my phone.  It only allows me to sync with my phone, which is empty???
    Can anyone help me?

If the information is in iTunes on the computer you have synced with in the past another sync, being sure you select the items you want on the iphone, should copy those things back to the iPhone.

  • Installed Mavericks and now can't access iPhoto

    Hello,
I recently updated my imac to the new mavericks system. Once the download was complete I noticed that iphoto had a white circle over it, indicating that it is not compatible with this system and an update is needed. I then went to the app store which has the relevat updates for both iphoto and imovie. However, when I use my apple ID it does not accept it due to these programmes being on the system as a bought the mac, so im guessing these apps are registered with the factory setting apple id. Is there anyway I can get thhis update so I can retrieve all my photos?
    Help much appreciated.
    James

Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They're the only ones who can sort out account issues.

  • My iPhoto library has disappeared and there is no past library for me to import. Where did my pictures go?

I was cleaning up my laptop last night to free up some space. I deleted some unessecary pictures from iphoto and re-organised my events. I then deleted some pictures from 'images' which shows up in 'all my files' - I didn't delete any of the pictures that I kept in my iphoto, but not all my pictures showed up in 'images' anyway. I also then deleted the pictures that were loose in the 'pictures' folder but these were all edits I had done in photoshop not the originals. I emptied my trash before I went to sleep and this morning when I turned on my laptop my iphoto library was gone and there was no past library to import so I had to create a new one. Although I have the pictures from my 'images' folder not all of my pictures are there. Have I lost my pictures for good?

No previous backup?  When you opened iPhoto did you get any error messages?  iPhoto normally stores the images inside /Machintosh HD/Users/YOURNAME/Pictures/iPhoto Library you won't be able to simply look at the images if you go there directly you have to open it with iPhoto.  You can hold the option key > then open iPhoto to make sure you didn't somehow create a different library.
