Iphoto library is gone!

Hi!  I can't find my iphoto library anywhere on my computer or ED. I turned on Time Machine a few weeks ago in an attempt to back up files and things but it never actually backed anything up because there wasn't enough space available.  So, I googled safe files to delete to be able to make room and once I did that I trashed them and emptied it.  Now my iphoto library can't be found.  iphoto is on the dock but when I click on it it says iphoto can't be found.  I have looked everywhere on my computer and ED and found nothing!  I hope and pray I haven't permanently lost all my pictures.
Is there a FREE file recovery that I can download that will get deleted trash files back?  Or any other way to get deleted trash files?

see if this link helps iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support  base off that if you didn't back them up it may be gone.

  • My IPhoto library is gone and I cannot find it. I have found an earlier version witha few photos but the big one is gone. Any ideas?

My IPhoto library is gone and cannot be found. There is an IPhoto in Applications marked "original". I can find the one I'm looking for using Time Machine but when I try to open it it says that it cannot be opened as there is a newer version installed. Any help would greatly be appreciated:-)

Download and use  Find Any File  to search for the file "Library6.iPhoto" which is in every iPhoto Library package. If you find more than one check both to see if one is your missing library.

  • My iPhoto library is gone

My iPhoto library is gone, and I don't know where.
My system was slow, so I ran the Disc Utility and it told me the disc needed repair. I took it to an Apple Store genius bar.
The "genius" told me the disc was dying, slowly. He got me to buy a portable hard drive. Then he sent me to sit in a theatre seat and told me to copy my important data files onto it.
I copied my documents, seemingly without difficulty. I tried to copy my iPhoto library. But for some reason the most recent 10 rolls of digital "film" did not copy.
Moreover, for some reason the entire iPhoto library is now missing from my original hard drive.
The "genius" wasn't too concerned. He spent 5-10 minutes looking for my iPhoto library, and shrugged. It's a consequence of an aging disc, he said, sending me on my way.
Now I'm at home trying to find my iPhoto library on my still-functioning computer. When I try to open iPhoto, it says, "Your photo library was not found. Do you want to find your iPhoto library folder?"
Yes I do. But where could it be? The "genius" looked in the obvious places. I keep searching under User, Photos, Libraries, things like that.
Any ideas? I could really use some help here.

    Search for
    library6.iphoto
that's the main database file. Wherever that is, your Library is. Use an app like EasyFind to search the disk. It's slower than Spotlight but will search locations that Spotlight won't.

  • All of my pictures from my iPhoto library are gone after upgrading to Mavericks

I just upgraded to Os X Mavericks and now all of my pictures are gone from my iPhoto library, and of course I am unable to access this version of iPhoto on OS X Mavericks.
I tried to find them using a different application or in Finder, and in both cases "iPhoto Library" is in Gray and no contents are available. My system memory doesn't seem to be reflecting the number of photos I have either.
If I go back to my old operating system will it work? If not, I have lost all my pictures since February of 2011. I have been crying nonstop for an hour trying to figure out what to do.

Open the App Store and upgrade iPhoto to the Mavericks version. Installing OS X does not do anything to your iPhoto Library.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.

  • Help! Whole Iphoto library is gone.

So I have been having a few problems with the computer shutting down lately but I haven't noticed any major problems when rebooting. But then I went to open iPhoto and my entire library is gone. When I go into finder they are all still in folders under the iPhoto library but when I try to resync the folders to the iPhoto library while the application is open but it won't let me. I tried syncing a new set of pictures and it worked and saved to iPhoto but those are the only pictures that show when I open the application please help!!!

    Your database has been corrupted.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Freaking OUT!! I have a desktop (IMac) and my IPhoto library is gone! Events gone, albums gone, faces gone!!! I can't even find the folder for IPhoto Library under Pictures under my hardrive. I have no idea how long it's been this way!

Ok so here's what has happened. I got on the Mac to open IPhoto. It opened, but no files PERIOD! No albums, events, photos, faces. They were all empty. I had TONS of albums and photos. I have no clue how long it's been this way, probably a couple of weeks since I've been on it. Ac couple of things come to mind that might have caused or had something to do with...IPhone 4 had to be restored and a back-up and upgrade occurred. Also, I deleted files off my camera while connected. Not sure the culprit, but VERY UPSET! I have never set up Time Machine and have no other back up. I downloaded and purchased File Salvage but I have to get an external hard drive before it will do it. I put the application install CD in last night thinking that if I reinstalled it would help but then I got scared and shut Mac down half way through. I couldn't even find the file IPhoto Library. When I open IPhoto it say IPhoto 9 but when I "get more info" it says IPhoto 8.1.2 or something like that. Please HELP!!

    Try an All Images Search:
    In the Finder:
    Command - f
    Kind: Images
Size: Greater than 300kb (This is to avoid all the thumbnails, icons and so on.)
Set it to search the Mac.
As to why? The most likely answer is user error, I'm afriad. It does point up the importantce of always having a back up.

  • Iphoto library is gone and I can't access iphoto in time machine!

I've lost my iphoto library - and I've looked (searched for .jpgs) and the photos are no longer on my computer. It must have been when I deleted a folder I'd called iphoto library 2 which was a copy of a couple of albums - or at least I thought that's what I deleted. And then I emptied the trash. And now it seems that those 2 albums are the only ones left in iphoto.
So I felt sick to my stomach - but I thought thank goodness I do time machine back ups from time to time... BUT I can't seem to find them on my time machine backup either. I opened time machine with iphoto open but I can't access anything behind the front (current) window. And I only just learned that if iphoto is still open time machine can't back up your iphoto library properly (am I the only one this is news to?)
I hope someone can help. Thanks!
    (iphoto'09 8.1.2 )

In addition to the links that Larry provided, you can restore your iPhoto Library from Time Machine as described here:
iPhoto '11: Restoring from Time Machine with iPhoto '11 (9.2 or later) and OS X Lion 10.7.2 (or later) - Apple Support
The procedure should work even with iPhoto '09 and Mac OS X (10.6.8).

  • Yosemite update: my Iphoto library is GONE.

After updating my MacBook Air to OS X Yosemite, iPhoto wouldn't open so I had to update it to a later version of it. However, I had over 3000 pictures in my library and now it seems I can't find them anywhere. I tried rebuilding the database, I ran the iPhoto Library Manager using the rebuild function and I checked inside the folders in the Library and Images, but they aren't there. What can I do to recover these photos?
Although the Time Machine was already installed before updating the operational system, it wasn't running, so I can't access the old database. And I haven't done any backups - I tried once but it didn't work.
Is there any possibilities of recovering my iPhoto and Photo Booth images?
    Thank you,
    Isabela Sued

  • HELP! All photos in iPhoto library are gone

This is weird.... I have all of my photos in a folder in my Pictures folder under "iPhoto Library," but none of them are in my actually iPhoto library. I have tried to drag the photos back in, no luck. I have tried to open my iPhoto application while holding down option, then again by holding down option + command. Nothing.
My files are in .jpg form, isn't that compatible with iPhoto? I don't want to lose these!

Try these in order - from best option on down...

  • After running "Applejack" most of my iphoto library is gone!

Let me qualify that statement by saying that when i open iphoto, only a few of my photos are shown to be left in iphoto.. BUT.. when i go to users> me> pictures> iphoto library> originals: all of my photos are there! Why are they not being shown when i open iphoto? And what would applejack have to do with changing what shows up in opening iphoto?

    mrhoggle
Try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose the top three options. See if that helps.
Applejack may have inadvertently caused the problem by deleting the cache files.

  • IPhoto Library is gone, gone, gone ... but ...

Here's a chronology of what happened...
I've kept my photos on an external hard drive for the past two years because there were so many of them. Everything was fine.
Three things happened sort of simultaneously, so I don't know which might have been the original culprit: I bought the new iPod (w/ video), which is my first with any kind of image capabilities, I had to do an erase and install of my OS (Tiger), and I imported photos from my friend's Yahoo photo account. I was able to import all of my photos to the iPod, but not the ones from my friend.
After downloading my friend's photos and reinstalling the OS (in that order), I copied all of my photos to the new iPod. A few days later, I opened iPhoto to find all of the keywords there, but the albums and the photos were missing (although all 2900 photos showed up by shape and keyword, but no images). I tried to import a few manually, and I got a message that the files types were unrecognizable.
I upgraded to iLife '05 and tried again. Same exact thing happened.
I went to the discussion boards, which usually helps me, but this time, I did myself in, I fear. I found a couple of discussions that mapped out moving the library to the hard drive and then restarting iPhoto with the command + option buttons and rebuilding, etc.
I moved the library to the hard drive and (here's where I'm stupid, I know) erased the library from the external hard drive. I then opened iPhoto with the option key held down and chose the library on my hard drive. 0 photos. 0 albums. Default keywords. I then tried the command + option restart to rebuild and rebuilt from the library on my hard drive.
Now, when I look in the folders on my hard drive, all of my photos are gone.
After collecting myself, I looked on my iPod and the photos are still on it. I don't know if the quality was altered when they were copied to the iPod, but I'm hoping I can get them off of there. I've used third party software to get my music libraries back and I'm wondering if there's anything like that for photos.
Any advice from anyone? Please help.

    Michael,
There is data-recovery software, but it can get very expensive depending on the number of files you need to recover. This is one others have had success with.
    Virtual Lab
Do a search in Google for data or Image recovery and you will see many more.
here is the first one that came up in Google
    http://www.mediarecover.com/
I suggest you make a new post asking about data recovery. some here might have good suggestion on what to use from personal experience.
    Good luck!

  • After upgrading to Yosemite my iPhoto library is gone.  It is on my hard drive but how do I get iPhoto to recognize it?

I have a MacBook Pro vintage 2009.  I upgraded to Yosemite and although my hard drive still has all my pictures, iPhoto will not recognize and allow them to be displayed.  Thus the library is empty..........HELP

You can't upgrade to the most recent version of iPhoto prior to updating to Yosemite, because the most recent version of iPhoto _requires_ Yosemite.
Try going to the Mac App Store and check the "updates" pane and check for updates. Get the latest iPhoto version, and then try again.

  • Iphoto library gone - no back up

Somehow my iphoto library is gone. No back up.
what happened to it? why did it just disappear? its not in trash. there is no file or folder in its place. just gone.
can i retrieve without bring my mac to a memory recovery place?
I"m trying virtual lab but it seems to only show 540mbs worht of iphoto files when i know i had a lot more photos.
i just did a security update. could that have erased? i believe after i did this update - my shortcut icons in my finder window were all gone also.
i also installed flip4mac wmv recently.
btw - i've done a search for iphoto everything and have not found it on any drives. it doesn't exist anywhere on my system.

    Jonathan
Have you looked in your Pictures folder? This is where the iPhoto Library Folder - which contains your photos and the library files - is meant to be. Look manually, many people have problems with Spotlight.
Assuming that the iPhoto Library Folder is actually gone:
    1. Download a file recovery app like FileSalvage: http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1
    2. Don't Save things on your mac, it increases the chance of overwriting the files.
    3. I"m trying virtual lab but it seems to only show 540mbs worht of iphoto files when i know i had a lot more photos.
I don't understand this reference - but why is it showing 540 MB;s of "iPhoto Files" when you say they are missing?

  • My iPhoto library has disappeared and there is no past library for me to import. Where did my pictures go?

I was cleaning up my laptop last night to free up some space. I deleted some unessecary pictures from iphoto and re-organised my events. I then deleted some pictures from 'images' which shows up in 'all my files' - I didn't delete any of the pictures that I kept in my iphoto, but not all my pictures showed up in 'images' anyway. I also then deleted the pictures that were loose in the 'pictures' folder but these were all edits I had done in photoshop not the originals. I emptied my trash before I went to sleep and this morning when I turned on my laptop my iphoto library was gone and there was no past library to import so I had to create a new one. Although I have the pictures from my 'images' folder not all of my pictures are there. Have I lost my pictures for good?

No previous backup?  When you opened iPhoto did you get any error messages?  iPhoto normally stores the images inside /Machintosh HD/Users/YOURNAME/Pictures/iPhoto Library you won't be able to simply look at the images if you go there directly you have to open it with iPhoto.  You can hold the option key > then open iPhoto to make sure you didn't somehow create a different library.

  • My iPhoto Library was deleted from my computer, not enough space for a time machine back up?

My entire iPhoto Library is gone, inaccessible, doesn't show up in finder. I tried to restore my last Time Machine back up but it says that I don't have enough space on my startup disk. In order to create space I deleted everything nonessential and moved all of my essential folders such as documents, photos, videos, everything, etc. to my external drive, then deleted them from my hard drive. I emptied the trash to make sure that everything was wiped. I tried to do the Time Machine back up of my iPhoto Library again and is still says I don't have enough space. I looked at my storage under About this Mac, and it says that 120.35 GB of my current computer storage are photos, however, I don't have ANY photos on my hard drive at all. I don't know what to do because I can't delete applications and there is literally nothing else I can delete from my computer, so I don't understand how 135 GBs of storage is being used up.
Any ideas? Could there be somewhere my photos are hiding? I just don't understand how this makes any sense, or why my library got deleted in the first place for that matter.

Search for your photos in Spotlight.
