IPhoto library location setting

I moved my iPhotos library, but iWeb seems to still be looking at the old location. Does anyone have an idea how to reassign the location of that directory?
(I'm pretty sure this is the issue. The symptom is the Media area of iWeb has not changed since I moved the location, but I left the old iPhotos location intact, and so I think that is what it is looking at.)

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair Library permissions.

  • My iphoto library, located on time capsule ( +/- 50G) does not load at all after upgrade to OSX to Yosemite ?

    Dear all,
I am guessing, this is not the end for accessing to my iphoto (last update) library, my life memories, but after upgrade to OSX Yosemite, my iphoto library, located on time capsule (+/- 50G) does not load at all. I have sent the report to Apple.
I am, worried to save or see my pictures back.
    Thanks fo your help.

    Hi Larry,
Sorry, for the delay, in the meantime I have restored my previous OS.
But to answer you, basically , I use the time capsule as both a backup volume and an external drive.
    It's a 1 To Capacity.

    That is a bad idea
1 - since you have files on the same disk as your backup you have no backup for those files which apparently includes you photos - having no b means it is just a matter of time until you lose them
2 - The TimeMachine backup grows until it fills the volume it is on - when the TC is full iphoto (and maybe other programs) will stop workig due to lack of space
You need at least two external hard drives - one for the iPhoto library (this one needs to be directly connected with a fast wired connection like Thungrbolt, Firewire or USB and be formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) ) and a separate EHD for  you TM backup

  • Using Time Machine to back up an iphoto library located on an external hard drive.

I'd like to back up my primary iphoto library that currently exists on an external Simpletech hard-drive.  I have a separate WD Passport external hard drive also attached to my iMAC.  When I turn on Time Machine, it only seems to allow me to choose one of the two hard-drives to receive the back-up, and automatically excludes the Simpletech where my iphoto library is located from the back-up.  Am I missing something?

This is normal. If you wish to back up your Hard Drive with the iPhoto library follow these steps:
Open the time maching preferences in system prferences,
    Click options,
Choose the hard drive with your iPhoto library,
Click the - button to remove it frok the list. T
Time machine will now back up all the information on this disk as well as that on your hard drive in the computer to your Time Maching Hard Drive.
    Hope this helps!!!

  • Backing up iPhoto library located on external hard drive

I recently moved my iPhoto 09 library to a 500gb WD portable hard drive in order to free up space on my MacBook Pro hard drive.  What I would like to know is can I back up this external library to another external hard drive so that I have two copies of all my photos.  Would it work if I had an external hard drive connected to my airport extreme?
    Thanks

    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

  • Iphoto library located on ext hd will not open

iphoto library is located on ext hd and accessed by old imac. attempted to make it accessible to both computers, but it would not open. now when i point the new mac to ext library it asked to rebuild thumbnails and shows no pictures. please help

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto library Location Question

Hello Apple Discussion wizards, though this is my first post, i've used this forum extensively and you have all helped me with many problems.
Anyway, old macbook was killed by humidity, currently on new imac.
old iphoto library was recovered and loaded to an external. my new iphoto library had around 300 pics, old one had around 12000, all organized by albums and such, so naturally i wanted to move the new iphoto library photos into my old one, and make my old library the default on my new computer.
essentially, i dragged the files from my old iphoto onto the desktop, held option while i opened iphoto, seleected the old library, then dragged the 300 pics into it.
now, currently iphoto opens with all my pics. the library location is
    /Users/claycohen/Pictures/iPhotoLibrary1
everything seems cool, but im worried about the location/permissions of the library
for example, if i go to change my desktop photo in system prefs, when i browse finder, my iPhotoLibrary1 is greyed out and cant be selected.
    MAIN QUESTION:
Is there a way to reset my current library to factory location and settings but keep all my albums/photos etc?
thanks for your help everyone, if that didn't make sense i can try to re explain. to quote thom yorke - i just want "everything in its right place"

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair Library permissions.

  • Cannot use iPhoto library to set background in System Preferences

I'm unable to set any photos from my iPhoto library as a desktop background using System Preferences. When I select a photo, it appears in the little preview window, but the desktop itself just turns blue.
The Choose Folder option works fine, and I can also set a new background picture from within iPhoto. Any idea why System Preferences can't properly access the iPhoto library?
    Thanks!

  • Use Dropbox as iPhoto library location?

I need access to my image files from several computers, and am wondering whether I could simply locate my iPhoto library on Dropbox, and access it as needed. I am, and would continue, backing up to a remote hard drive, so the Dropbox would not be the only location of my iPhoto library.

You can use Dropbox to run iPhoto from multiple computers but, unless you want to purchase additional dropbox space, the library's size must be less than 2 GB in size. See Old Toad's Tutorial #20 - "Syncing" a Small iPhoto Library between Multiple Macs with Dropbox for more info. Be sure to read the warning in the tutorial.
You must allow sufficient time for changes made on computer A to be synced to computers B and C (they must be up and online to do so).

  • My iphoto library (located on an external hard drive) was open when the hard drive was accidentally disconnected.  We plugged it back in, but the library is frozen.  Any suggestions on what I can do without corrupting/losing my iphoto library?

The cable to the external hard drive that houses my iphoto library was accidentally disconnected while the library was open and up on the screen.  We plugged it back in, but now the screen is frozen. Has anyone experienced this before?  If I force quit, will I corrupt and lose access to the library on the external hard drive?

Shutdown the Mac. Disconnect and power off the external drive (if it has its own power supply). Reconnect the external drive and power on (if applicable). Boot Mac. If the external drive is not reading properly, open Disk Utility, select external drive, run Repair Disk.

  • How to manage iphoto library location?

I can have iphoto library either in Mac's SSD (128GB) or external hard-disk. If the whole library is in SSD, it can't grow beyond 128GB or at max 512 GB). If I move the whole library to external hard-disk, I will have to mount it every time I need to look at the photos. Is it possible to split the library between mac's internal SSD and external hard-disk such that favorite and recent photos stay on both SSD and hard-disk and all the photos in external hard-disk? Whenever hard-disk is plugged in, it can sync and show all the photos in iphoto. Is it possible to do this in mac?

    Yes. By having two Libraries.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • Iphoto library location

After upgrading to OS Lion, I do not see anymore photos,  where should i look for them?

By default, the iPhoto library is in the Picture folder at the top level of your home folder. If you don't see it there, check the All My Files smart folder in the sidebar of a Finder window. Does it show the images?

  • Imported iPhoto library -- Aperture set time stamp for each picture 5 hours

Very annoying and bizarre -- I imported thousands of pictures, from 3 or 4 different cameras, and all of them have the time stamp 5 hours too early. I'm not worried about time zones, etc. -- even where the camera, computer and file resides in Chicago, and are set to Chicago time, a photo that was taken at 3 PM CST, and says so in iPhoto, says that it was taken at 10 AM CST in Aperture. Is there any easy way to fix this for all of the pictures?

    Hi Sharon,
There is a way to make a change to the date of all pictures. Select all the pictures that need adjustment, then go to the "Metadata | Adjust Date and Time" function. Aperture will show the time of the first picture, and you can set that time to something else. Aperture determines the delta from current to new timestamp, and applies that same delta to all of the other pictures.
You are also probably wondering how that happened in the first place. I don't know for sure, but try to import some more pictures, and in the upper right "Import Settings", select "Time Zone" See if the time zones match CST.

  • Is it possible to set screen saver to iphoto library on another computer?

I have all my photos on an iMac; I have a mac mini connected to my flat screen tv which we use to watch movies (netflix, amazon video, itunes, etc).  I would like to set my mac mini screen saver to the iPhoto library located on my iMac.  Is this possible?

Do I need to have iPhoto installed on both computers?  On the mac mini, when I select the screen saver source choicelist I only get the pre-installed options and a "choose folder".  I can navigate my iMac from this option however, the iPhoto library icon is greyed out...
What am I doing wrong?  I do have iPhoto shared on my iMac from the iPhoto sharing preferences.

  • IPhoto library import issue - answer can't be found anywhere else

Hi, just downloaded the trial of Aperture. I am attempting to import my iPhoto library and regardless of whether the location is maintained as references to the iPhoto library or set to the Aperture library when I click import nothing actually imports.
I have checked the iPhoto settings and all seems to be set correctly and also the online seminars and discussions but still no answer. Would it be because I am using the trial version?
    Your thoughts please!
    Thanks,
    Ben

Do a little test to make sure you've got your iPhoto library correct. In Aperture go to File>Import>Images. With the {X} set pm Local Files, navigate to the iPhoto library you are using. Then you should see a list of all of your Albums, and if you click on Library, you will see your Events. You can import a few (I would suggest just setting "Store Files" to "In their current location" to avoid duplication) Folders or Events and then see if they appear in Aperture. This is in fact how I store my 40K image library. I keep it all in iPhoto and reference just the albums I need to work on from Aperture.
    Good Luck!

  • Share iphoto library with 2 users

Just updated to Lion v10.7 and I'm also running the latest version of iPhoto v9.1.5.
I have 2 user accounts on the same mac min, with the iPhoto library located under users/shared folder.
Assuming you only open one instance of iPhoto, all seems fine. However you import your images and then close the application, then move over to the other user account, open iPhoto and again all seems fine.... but no
Portrait photos can be view and opened. Good...
Landscape photos can be seen as thumb nails, but you get ! when trying to view the image.
Why does this happen and can this be fixed?
Sorry if this has been posted in the past, but its been bugging me for some time!

Honestly, I don't know. Some folks need to do it once. Others occassionally. Some everytime and I've never figured out why.
Ultimate solution, move the library to a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and set to ignore permissions
