IPhoto library manager can't open iPhoto for rebuilt. i need trouble shooter!

is it possible to eliminate iphoto program and replace it with a new one????????
Fortunately i have saved previously all my photos on external HD.

Terence, first I had problems with iphoto and your recommended to use iphoto library manager for re-built, which worked perfect. The problem (blocking- forcing exit) reaapered in iphoto so we wanted to re´built the re´built the library and now the manager could not open iphoto....iphoto must have a problem in my mac, therefore i thought to reinstall iphoto. Is it now understandable??

  • Iphoto library failed to finish opening (iphoto library manager)

My iphoto library is on an external harddrive and opens (however, without showing the actual picture thumbnails but only the frames where the pictures should be; as long as i am scrolling, i can see the actual pictures). The Iphoto library manager gives an error message that iphoto "failed to finish opening" the library.
    What can I do?
    Thanks for you help.

What format is the EHD?  (Note - it must be Mac OS extended (journaled) to have the iPhoto library on it)
and how is it connected to your Mac? it must be on a fast hard wired connection like ThunderBolt, ISB or FireWire

  • I to use iphoto library manager to save corrupted iphoto and each time it saves some and the first time it brings up iphoto, iphone goes into "not responding" mode.  Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2.

I've had issues with my iPhoto "not responding" and as a result I am attempting to save my photos to an external hard drive using iPhoto library Manager but each time I start the program it saves some, and then when it starts iPhoto, iPhoto then goes into not responding mode. Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2. I have completed all of the photo library first aid steps several times, but it makes no difference, iphoto eventually goes to "not responding."  Initial issues started with Time Machine back ups stopping because of iphoto. Thanks......

Do you have a back up?
If you're just trying to recover the photos you can do that much more simply:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Originals' or 'Masters'. (varies according to the version of iPhoto)
Your photos are inside - these are the originals as imported from your camera.

  • IPhoto Library Manager won't open, what to do? .

    Pls HELP.
I downloaded iPhoto 9.2.3, and when i tried to open it the app completely froze.  I was instructed to hold down command and option keys when clicking on iPhoto and use the resulting dialogue box to rebuild the library database.  I tried that, but half of my photos are not there.  I was told to use the Library Manager, which i downloaded but it will not open.  I get, "Can not open the application because it is not supported on this type of Mac".  I have the Mac OS X, 10.6.8.
WHAT CAN I DO NOW???  I DON'T WANT TO LOSE ALL THOSE PHOTOS BECAUSE I DOWNLOADED iPhoto 9.2.3!!!
Can I download an older version of iPhoto?  the older one worked fine.

  • Moved iPhoto Library but can't open it

I copied my iPhoto Library from my main hard drive to an external Lacie 250 GB hard drive. Then I renamed the original iPhoto library so iPhoto couldnt find it when it opened.
When I opened iPhoto, I got the following message, as expected:
"Your iPhoto Library was not found. Do you want to find your iPhoto Library?
iPhoto can’t continue without a Photo Library. Make sure the disk containing your Photo Library is connected."
I then clicked on the 'Find Library' button. I then found the new iPhoto Library folder on the external hard drive and hit the 'Open' button, but nothing happens. The 'Open' button actually just sort of throbs (turns dark and pale in turn).
Is there something else I need to do to point iPhoto at this new library?
    Thanks.

FYI: Next time copy over the entire iPhoto Library folder as an entity. Don't open it or copy it in pieces. That will ensure that you don't corrupt your database in the move.
I'm glad you were able to fix it.
    Regards.

  • Can't open iPhoto. warning says can't open iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete

cant open iphoto. says it is damaged or incomplete

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Can't open iPhoto Library after 7.1.5 update

    Hello.
I accidently updated my system while my iPhoto library was in a different folder. Now iphoto doesnt recognize it as my library, even though it still has the standard iPhoto library icon. I have iPhoto choose my library file, which is 900 mb, but it says it has zero photos!
I tried d/l'ing 7.1.4, but when I run the .pkg, it says a newer version of the software is installed, then quits. No duh!
    HELP Please :/
    Ron

    Ron:
First, to make sure you're opening the correct library launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, select Choose Library, navigate to your library, select and open it and then close.
Make a temporary backup copy of the library and run the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Getting message:"Can't open iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete"

getting message: You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.
How do I reload the software when the update software" doesn't fix it

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First make sure there's only one iPhoto library on your HD by launching iPhoto with the Option key depressed. In the next window there will be listed every library on your HD and any external HDs. If only one then close iPhoto and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
    Fix #2
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Iphoto is still not relaunching despite using iphoto Library Manager

Hi, I have used iphoto Library Manager to relaunch lost photos for my iphoto. When i recovered it, it simply loaded with the grey icon and does nothing. I downloaded iphoto Library Manager and i can see that it has all my back-up files. when I clicked on all the options to rebuild, it simply loads again without great effect. am I being impatient? I left it for 5 hours today and still no result?!

Hi Old Toad, Its the '11 9.2.3 version.
I'm unable to tell you if I can import photos as apparently I'm not registered and have to purchase a code.
However, I have tried to rebuild using iphoto library manager - it shows me the last photos I did have, but loads the iphotos as if it were a brand new program - which means i CAN import photos from scratch.
I've clicked on 'default' and 'relaunch iphotos', but it just opens as if its a new program and giving me the intro.
Have you ever encountered this? how can the photos be recovered?
    Thanks alot for your response.

  • Can't open Iphoto, update won't work

I've tried to open the Iphoto program and immediately it tells me I need an update. I try to update and halfway through it fails. It gives me the option to try again or quit. I've tried both. If I try and update again, it repeats the process and fails again. I've tried updating from the app store and that doesn't work either. I am unable to even open the program because of this problem. Help!

The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I can not open iphoto window says it is incomplete or damaged

There is a "do not enter" (cirlce with a diagonal line) sign over my iphoto.  when i try to open it says iphoto can open, damaged or incomplete. Help!

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then the problem lies with your current library. In that case if you have the space available on your hard drive and don't aready have a backup copy of the library make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

  • Can't Open iPhoto Projects

Running iPhoto 9.5.1 -- Suddenly cannot open any of my projects, even one worked on earlier today. When I double-clicked on a project, got a message saying it was being "updated". But then it wouldn't open. In contrast can open photos, events and albums.

When you're done with the project try the following on your main library:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
As noted you will lose any current projects but check to see if you can create new projects in the rebuild library.  If so you may want to continue with the new library and recreate any projects you had previously.
