IPhoto Library Manager hasn't managed to find missing photos after rebuild
I'm trying to repair what I assume is my pal's corrupted iPhoto Library. There are over 8000 images in the Originals folder, which is the number of photos expected to be in iPhoto but he suddenly discovered there were only 1200.
Having tried to rebuild the library with iPhoto Library Manager it is still only showing 1200 photos and I therefore wondered whether anyone can recommend any other solutions for trying to recover the missing photos?

Did you try to rebuild with iPhoto with "Find orphans" option selected? If that doesn't work you'll have to start over with a new library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Move the existing library folder to the desktop
2 - Open the library package like this.
3 - Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

How do I re-download my iphoto library if I can no longer find iphoto on my desktop or in my finder without loosing all of my photos?
How did you install it in the first place? If it came with your Mac, and the Mac didn't come with Lion installed, then reinstall iLife from the Applications disc that was in the box. If you no longer have that disc, you'll have to order a replacement from Apple customer service. Either that, or restore the iPhoto application from your backups.
If you got iPhoto from the App Store, you can download it again by launching the App Store application. -

About a month ago, a friend of mine called and said that his i photo library had suddenly evaporated. When I took a look at his computer screen, I saw a very small sliver of gray at the bottom of his screen.
I put the cursor on it and was able to drag up the i photo library he thought was lost. Someone had dragged the iphoto window all the way down to the bottom of the screen, where you could only see a small sliver of it.
Who knows? Maybe your problem is as simple as that. -
Hopefully someone can help me with my question. When I try to add photos from PhotoStream into my iPhoto Library a message appears asking to view the photo in the library (as if it were already imported). When I click View it brings me to my iPhoto library but the photo(s) are not there?

How exacly are you trying to import from the Photo Stream? Dragging from the stream to the events? Ctrl-clicking or right clicking?
If "Show in Library" does not show the event, then your iPhoto Library may need repairing or rebuilding; try to run the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools, if you have not already done so. See this post by Old Toad on how to do it: Rebuild iPhoto Library Version 11:

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):

You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed. Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See: Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support

If you have enough iCloud storage. But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.

All my photos in the iphoto have disappeared, not sure if this related to any iphoto upgrade or other issue, tried to find the photos through the finder (JPG or photo) but failed, can you help me to get back my photos please?

- What version of iPhoto.

- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.

I just downloaded trial version -- don't see iPhoto library in Aperture and need to import selected photos to edit, not entire i Photo library! I read manual and it says:

You use the Aperture iPhoto Browser to review iPhoto images and import specific images into the Aperture library. The iPhoto Browser gives you a handy way of looking for certain images without having to import your entire iPhoto library.
So, where do I review the iPhoto images...there is nothing in there that says "iPhoto Library" Everything I see pertains to Aperture Library which of course is empty since I haven't imported (or dragged) any photos in there yet.
Also is tech support available for Aperture? I have Apple Extended Support and I sure would love it if I had individual help. 1293 photos have been found in the iPhoto library that are not a part of this photo library.
In preparation for merging two iPhoto libraries with Aperture, I ran "repair database" as suggested above by léonie in this thread:

After chugging for a while, iPhoto puts up a modal dialog box saying:

What does this mean?
- nelloI re-ran the the repair on a backup of my library and chose "yes" on the import of of the found pictures.
Unfortunately, the saved pictures included both original and edited images and the import did not re-assemble them into just a single entry.
For example, I have a two pictures of a portico ceiling, the original (with an ID of P1010071_2) and another (P1010071) which is the same except that iPhoto's "Enhance" Quick Fix has been applied.
Is there any way rejoin the original (P1010071_2) and fixed images(P1010071) into a single entry?

Just one little addition to add to Kirby's spot-on answer: Are you worried, if you will still have access to your photos after the trial licence expired? Without a valid Aperture licence you will still be able to access the original master image files, but not to the edited versions. From what Kirby Krieger told you, it is clear that you will have access to referenced master image files, located outside the library. If your library is managed you can access the master files inside the Aperture Library Package by ctrl-clicking the Aperture Library and selecting: "Show Package contents". The original master image files are located inside the folder "Masters". Here is what my Aperture Library Package looks like:

Here to help shed some additional light on this case, jdondr. I also own a Maxx. With your phone, if you access the Gallery, there should be a folder named: Messaging. If you look at the upper left hand corner, you should see a drop down box. Is it currently set to Albums?

Synchronize Folder problem - LR finds missing photos that aren't missing
A bit of background:
I decided to dive in and clean up a big 40K catalog I have. This involved:
Moving images around
Creating new folders
Renaming existing folders
Renaming all photos
All of this was done within LR to avoid problems. But now, everything is working fine, LR does not complain that there are missing photos EXCEPT when I try to synchronize a folder.
The strange this is there is no question mark on the images and when I use the Find Missing Photos, LR tells me that there are no missing photos.
But when I try to synchronize a folder (any), it finds all the images as new images and suggests to remove the missing photos (both matching the exact number of images). Obviously I don't want to do that and loose my edits...
I found some information here, it seems to be an old bug but no solutions work for me... I really don't want to go back and redo all this work. Is there a magic trick?
Thanks!Thanks but this a completely different problem. You are referring to the "Treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separated photos" setting that I have unchecked purposely and I do not shoot RAW + Jpeg anyways.
Your issue is a normal behavior. LR assumes that Jpeg+RAW shooters will only required the RAW to be imported in LR unless you change that setting.
My problem was a very specific instance where the volume name did not match case with the folder names in LR. As soon as I fixed that, it went back to normal. -
Opening the iphoto library to view and manage it's content
I know there is a way, by pressing some keys together, either in the finder or on iphoto itself at launching, in order to be able to open the application and, as in the older version, be able to see the folders and the rolls inside them.
Do you mean see the rolls and event folders in the Finder?
There isn't.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

IPHOTO LIBRARY ICON TURNED INTO MANAGED FOLDER
I recently moved my iPhoto library from Time Capsule to an exthd and now I see 'folders' for my iPhoto libraries instead of that main icon (which I used to simply click on and it launched the program).
Originally this exthd was on my PC. I took this exthd and reformatted for my Mac. I then connected the exthd to the Time Capsule which is hooked up to the main house PC (diff from mine) - and this is where it gets strange..... I was unable to see the TC (nor the exthd) from this main PC so I went back on MY PC and there I was able to manipulate the data between the exthd and TC. I transferred all necessary data from TC to this exthd.
All seemed fine until I hooked up the exthd to my Mac and tried to launch iPhoto. I see folders instead of that icon for the libraries. How do I launch the program to open up my library? I'm not sure what I did to make that change or if I did something wrong. Anyone know?

But what it boils down to is the fact that my libraries, which are now stored on an exthd, which is hardwired to my mac, are showing up as folders. We have 3 computers. 2 windows os(pc#1 and pc#2) and 1 mac. The main pc (pc#1) has the TC hardwired and pc#2 and mac are wireless to this network. I was having lots of problems with iPhoto and was informed that my troubles were due to the fact that I have my libraries stored on the TC and am accessing them wirelessly. I wanted to avoid any major issues in the future so I converted my exthd from pc#2 for use with the mac. After completing that, I hardwired the exthd to the TC and copied the libraries. Once copied to the exthd, I hardwired this unit to the mac. Both libraries show up as folders. I don't understand what happened. -
My IPhoto library is gone and cannot be found. There is an IPhoto in Applications marked "original". I can find the one I'm looking for using Time Machine but when I try to open it it says that it cannot be opened as there is a newer version installed. Any help would greatly be appreciated:-)
Download and use Find Any File to search for the file "Library6.iPhoto" which is in every iPhoto Library package. If you find more than one check both to see if one is your missing library.
