IPhoto Library Manager question!

Hi,
My iPhoto recently stopped working (it opens fine but immediately stops responding and I always have to force quit). After reading advice online I downloaded iPhoto Library Manager so that I would at least have access to my photos. I'd really like to return to using iPhoto and assume that to do so I should remove the application, re-download it and then transfer the photos back over from iLM. Firstly, is this the right thing to do (if not, what is)? And secondly, will iLM save my photos even if I delete iPhoto?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • IPhoto library management question...again

First of all, I am new to the forums and new to Macs in general, hence some of my concerns/questions are probably a result of my exclusive use of Windows.
I have a relatively large number of photos (15,000) and have spent a lot of time over the years organizing them in a logical structure (Photos->Year->Month->Date->JPG files...) I have been reading a lot about iPhoto and I do understand the file structure within iPhoto, and I would be happy to begin adapting with my new photos. However, I am looking for an efficient way to transfer over all my hundreds of folders to the iPhoto library. I know it's been asked before, but thought maybe I am missing something. If I am way off then blame it on the extensive use of Windows over the last 15 years...I am mainly concerned with preserving the file structure/hierarchy. Do I need to just throw it from my OCD mind and just let iPhoto deal with it, while I practice with the export function?!?
Thanks for any input you can provide.

Each folder imported into iPhoto ends up as a single event. However, they will not be nested. You can go thru and add the year, month and date to the folder titles be for importing and you'll get an Event name that will be more indicative of the contents. I use "MM/DD/YY-Brief description".
Then, as Larry suggested you can duplicate your folder hierarchy in iPhoto by creating a virtual folder to match the container folders (those that contain other folders but no photos) and drag those Events into it to create albums for those events.

  • *problem shown with images* Iphoto deleted my pictures, unable to see them in iPhoto Library Manager either

Hello everyone! First post here. I have searched endless amount of forums and finally decided to post my problem.
Today my images from Iphoto went missing. When I tried to open the iphoto app, it gave me an error that the files were unreadable and therefore not imported.
Then I tried to rebuild iphoto by holding down option and command. I tried every option and it would still show my iphoto as 0 pictures.
I tried to view my images by going to the show packages option but it doesnt display the masters or originals files..
lastly I downloaded the Iphoto library manager and it was able to detect my pictures, but I could not see them or import/rebuild the library.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? When I tried to view the images it also shows a white triangle with a question mark in the middle. I beleiev the caption also says missing.tiff. Any help would be appreciated. I just recently got my macbook air so I have not done any backups.

I also noticed that my photo booth pictures got deleted as well. I'm trying to recover images through a recovery software and it does give me the option to look at the masters file, but there is nothing in there...
Also how could the Iphoto manager show that I have the 900 pictures? even though I am unable to actually see the image.. Could it be these pictures formats were changed somehow?

  • IPhoto Library Manager

After an internal HD crash and replacement, I was able to restore most of my programs and doc from my MacBook and bakup HD.
I like to use iPhoto Library Manager to switch between libraries, but now when I open it, 2 libraries are listed in black and can be opened, iPhoto Library and iPhoto China Library.
Libraries listed in red and cannot be opened are Photos, iPhoto China Library (listed twice), iPhoto Library_1, iPhoto Library_2, and iPhoto USA Library (listed twice).
When I open iPhoto with the option key, all the above libraries are available. I can find them on my computer and HDs.In fact, there files that that don't show in either iPhoto or iPhoto Lib Manager, which are Library.iPhoto and Library6.iPhoto.
But I don't see a way to change the list in iPhoto Lib. Manager. If I choose add library and go to where the finder says it is, it's grayed out and won't load.

For questions about iPhoto Library Manager best to contact the makers.
When I open iPhoto with the option key, all the above libraries are available. I can find them on my computer and HDs
    Do these Libraries actually open?
n fact, there files that that don't show in either iPhoto or iPhoto Lib Manager, which are Library.iPhoto and Library6.iPhoto.
Nor should they. These re not libraries, but are parts of the internals of an actual Library.
If I choose add library and go to where the finder says it is, it's grayed out and won't load.
Which suggests that these Libraries don;t appear as valid Libraries to iPhoto Library Manager - hence my query about whether they open.

  • I want to uninstall Iphoto Library Manager without losing all my Iphotos

I recently purchased Ilife 6 and I have Iphoto Library Manager on my computer. I'd like to dump the Iphoto Library Manager becuse the idea of third party software working with my photos (unsupported by Apple) scares me. Question, if I uninstall Iphoto Library Manager, will that have any impact on the 6000+ photos in Iphoto that are also in files in Library Manager. (unfortunatley, I'm not knowledgeable enough to know how the Iphotos link into Iphoto Library). If so, how do I get rid of Library Manager and keep my Iphoto Library intact?> Thanks, Ed
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks, that did work indeed! While I'll take your word that it is good software, I was paranoid that if something went wrong Apple Support doesn't support it, and I'd be in a bit of a bind.
    Thanks again,
    Ed

  • Errors when merging libraries w/ iPhoto Library Manager

Using the most recent version of iPhoto Library Manager, I just merged two iPhoto 11 libraries. When it was done, I received this message:
460 errors occurred during the process. Click the "View Log" button for more details.
13-03-16 14:43:55.603 Search for the word "error" to find any errors that occurred during the operation
When I did, I found variations of these two messages:
        13-03-16 14:42:57.540 *** Error: iPhoto failed to successfully import the photo at /Users/Jim/Pictures/iPhoto Libraries/iPhoto Library/Masters/2008/Parrot Tulip/P1060390.JPG
13-03-16 14:43:00.822 *** Error: Missing photo: no valid path found for the photo 3173
The odd thing is, when I searched iPhoto for the photos it says it failed to successfully import (e.g., P1060390.JPG), they're there.
I also can't figure out to what the other photo numbers (e.g., 3173) refer.
Is this error message something I can just ignore, considering the photos seem to be there?

The best place to ask that question is from the developers of Library Manager, but this does sound like one of the databases is corrupted. The 3173 is likely a unique identifier used in the iPhoto Database.
I would not ignore the messages.

  • I to use iphoto library manager to save corrupted iphoto and each time it saves some and the first time it brings up iphoto, iphone goes into "not responding" mode.  Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2.

I've had issues with my iPhoto "not responding" and as a result I am attempting to save my photos to an external hard drive using iPhoto library Manager but each time I start the program it saves some, and then when it starts iPhoto, iPhoto then goes into not responding mode. Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2. I have completed all of the photo library first aid steps several times, but it makes no difference, iphoto eventually goes to "not responding."  Initial issues started with Time Machine back ups stopping because of iphoto. Thanks......

Do you have a back up?
If you're just trying to recover the photos you can do that much more simply:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Originals' or 'Masters'. (varies according to the version of iPhoto)
Your photos are inside - these are the originals as imported from your camera.

  • Need iPhoto library management help

I've been trying to organize and archive my photos and videos for the past few weeks. I have well over 250GB, spread over several iPhoto libraries on an external drive. Many of those libraries contain duplicate images, and are taking up way too much space. I am looking for an app that will scan multiple iPhoto libraries stored on an external drive for duplicates, so I can remove them and consolidate all of my libraries in the smallest amount of space possible.
I haven't had luck with: Dupe guru, Duplicate cleaner for iPhoto, Photos Duplicate Cleaner or iPhoto library manager. I know that I had found one before that scanned the libraries and showed me which duplicate images were on which library and gave me the option to delete them. That was a while ago, and at that point, I hadn't organized things to the point that I was ready to start deleting. It may be one of the apps listed above that I'm just not using correctly. If so, and if someone can walk me through getting started doing it the right way, it would be much appreciated. If not, and there is a different app available, please let me know which one it is & I'll try it.
Not sure if this matters, but I'm using OS X 10.7.5, iPhoto '09, version 8.1.2 (424)
    Thanks in advance.

Duplicate Finder apps for iPhoto all search the contents of one library for duplicates. There is none that compare across Libraries.
If you are seeking to consolidate your Libraries, then using Library Manager to merge them can be done while also eliminating duplicates.

You probably have to run one or all of the IPHOTO resets/repairs over your library.   Its in IPHOTO help which keys you have to hold down while opening IPHOTO.
    Sorry don't remember which keys.

  • HT2638 I tried absolutely every trick, from reinstalling Mountain lion and iPhoto to buying iPhoto library Manager. NOTHING worked

Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup.
I went through all the repair/rebuild options when pressing cmd/optn and pressing the iphoto icon
I reinstralled Mountain Lion, ran software update, reinsalled Iphoto and ran software update,
I restored old copies of the iphoto library from Time Machine.
I bought Iphoto Library Manager and tried to retrieved and/or rebuild the library
ABSOLUTELY nothing worked and I still get this error message.
I went to the Apple store in Geneva and they told me that deleting Iphoto, reinstalling it and running software update will fix it. It didn't
Can anyone please help or shed some light on what could be wrong ?
OSX 10.8.2 and Iphoto 9.4.2 on Mac Pro 15 in

Library Manager opens the Iphoto Library and I can see all of the photos, about 12,500 of them. But when I open Iphoto afterwards, I get the error message again "Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup."
I tried to create a new Iphoto Library using Library Manager, but LM was unable to create one as it needed to access Iphoto back and forth and Iphoto would not allow it access because of the error, therefore LM was unable to create a new clean library.
After opening the iphoto LIbrary within the Library Manager, I opened Iphoto and tried to repair/rebuild etc.. without success.
The problem first occured after I upgraded my Iphone to IO6.02 then I transferred my Iphone photos to Iphotos. I alo synced the Iphone with itunes.
Thank you for looking into this on Christmas day !!!!

  • I am not able to open iPhoto, when I have used the iPhoto Library Manager, I get the message that "the iPhoto Library folder could not be found" Help!

Help!  I can't open the iPhoto!  I have os x 10.5.8 and I have tried using the iPhoto Library Manager only to find out that the folder for the iPhoto Library could not be found.
I have also tried the Fix #1 from the user Old Toad who said to delete the preference file :com.appleiPhoto.plist - I could do that, but I couldn't figure out how to delete iPhoto's cache fie, Cache.db because I couldn't find it?  I'm not sure how to find the file by it's directory path name of HD/User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto .
    Help is very much appreciated!
    vernawithav

Download and use  Find Any File  to search for "Library6.iPhoto".  It's a file that is present in every iPhoto library.  If you don't find one on your hard drive then your library has gone missing entirely.
Another thing you can try is to use the Search For - All Images feature in the Finder window to see if you can see any of your photos.
That will tell you if they are on your hard drive but somewhere other than the library.
What do you see when you insert the DVD into the optical drive?  Can you open it and any folders on the disk?  If the disk is titled iPhoto Library  then open the disk, the the iPhoto Library folder and finally the Originals folder.  Check the subfolders to see if your photos are there.
Your original photo files will be in the Originals subfolders.

  • IPhoto Library Manager for organizing iPhoto Librabies

Hi! For those who use iPhoto Library Manager and have multiple libraries, what have you found to be the best way to set up/organize a library? By subject? By year(s)? And where do you store your libraries? On your HD or on an external HD? Thanks!

by subject then by date if necessary. i store everything on an external hard disk and i try to make the name as specific as possible.
but you do know now that iPhoto can do the same thing by option clicking on iphoto? Iphoto then asks what do you want to open? if you just click on iphoto it will open the file you were using when you last quit iphoto.

  • Iphoto library management in Leopard

In the previous incarnations of iphoto I had several libraries in a libraries folder on the desktop. Using an iphoto library manager I could access any one of these. Now that I have Leopard all of the libraries come up at the same time when I try to access any one of them. This is a terrible problem for me. How can I get back to accessing each library individually?
    Thanks

    tomdigital
You're going to have to explain that one again:
all of the libraries come up at the same time when I try to access any one of them.
iPhoto can only open a single library at a time.
To choose between libraries hold down the option (or alt) key on launch

  • IPhoto 6 crashes when opening with iPhoto Library Manager with external sto

I've had stored many iPhoto libraries on my Freecom Mobile Drive 160gb, accessing them via iPhoto Library Manager, for years. Suddenly, when I try to open a library, iPhoto crashes. I'm still able to go into the storage disk so I don't think this is damaged. I've also reinstalled IPLManager (using original 3.2.3), without any luck.
I get this crash report (greatly abbreviated)
    PID: 809
    Thread: 0
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
Does this make sense to anyone? I can't understand why one minute everything is fine, and then the next a procedure which has worked for a long time, doesn't. BTW, I've taken off lots of junk from the Freecom external drive (have 44gb available) and 3gb available on my iBook.
Many thanks in advance for any help or advice.

    That
    Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE
is always a Data Related issue.
So use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the Library. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
