IPhoto library on TimeCapsule01, trying to backup from TimeCapsule02

Hi.
I had a 1TB TC connected as disk only to my MacMini to hold my 350GB iTunes library and 20GB iPhoto library. After a while i decided to buy a second TC and use that to backup my iPhoto and iTunes library automatically....
This doesn´t seem to work in my current setup as it only backs up stuff on my physical MacMini. Am i doing something wrong or is there no way to get this to work?
anyone?

i won't work using time machine. peruse this user tip: http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/2.html.
for your setup, you will have to find another means of backing up. perhaps ChronoSync or [Tri-Backup|http://www.tri-edre.com/english/tribackup.html] can do what you want.

  • The iPhoto library I am trying to import from is greyed out

This library opens and works fine in iPhoto 9.5.1.  I created a new library and want to import photos to it from my old library but can't.  I just bought a new iMac with OSX 10.9.1.  The existing old library was created on a Mac Pro, probably under Snow Leopard or Lion.

One should never try to import one library into another. Older versions of iPhoto were able to do so but would result in an messed up library that had the thumbnail, preview and original files of the imported library ending up as original files in the importing library. Beginning with iPhoto 7 that capability was removed.
To get photos from LIbrary A into LIbrary B there are two ways to do that:
1 - use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to copy the Events or albums from A into B. That will copy the photos, any edited versions, keywords, faces, places as well as the original photo.
2 - export the photos you want from A via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu with Kind = Original to a folder(s) on the Desktop.  Then import the folder(s) into B.  That will give you only the orignal file and no edited version of any metaedata added in A.

  • The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library.

I recently tried to look up my pictures on my time machine back up on an external hard drive. As soon as I try to open it I get the following message.
"The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library."
I have tried holding down the option key but still couldn't few the photos.
I want to know if there is anyway I can actually view these photos. I have over 85gbs of photos on the hard drive.  I have tried googling and looking at pervious forums with the same problem but nothing is working.
    Please help!

Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu. Search for "Restore items backed up with Time Machine."

  • IPhoto Library is a Time Machine backup

As of yesterday I am unable to open iPhoto and get the message ‘The iPhoto Library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Relaunch iPhoto with <option> key held down to choose another library.’
This may have come about because I recently loaded some irreplaceable pictures on iPhoto and was trying to check that they had been backed up on my external (OneTouch 4) hard drive. I opened the hard drive and double-clicked on various files from the latest back-up. I wasn’t able to identify the photos for certain but assumed that they had been backed up OK. Anyway, I guess this procedure has given me the problem with iPhoto! I should also mention that, several months ago, I put a copy of the iPhoto application on my external hard drive thinking (no doubt wrongly) that it would enable me to view backed up photos. I have never used it but it is still there.
Doing a search for the latest photos shows that my photo library in general appears to be intact on my iMac (the path is -home folder-pictures-iPhoto library-originals-2010-event-individual photo) and each photo can be opened in Preview. But how do I get them back on iPhoto, please?

I have no idea -you tell us nothing except for the error
certainly selecting the correct library is critical - it is possible that that is your problem - it also is possible that something else is the problem - pointing to the correct library can not create any problems so do it
As to keeping all of your photos together - do nothing and iPhoto will do that - the only way anything else can happen is if you mess with the iPhoto library or create multiple libraries - iPhoto always uses the same library until you direct it to change

  • IPhoto library missing.  Tried "other library", found iPhoto, clicked open, nothing happened library

iPhoto library missing.  Tried "other library", found iPhoto library, clicked open, nothing happened.

Restore your backup - obviously no one here has any idea where anything on your computer is located - by default the iPhoto library is int he pictures folder
You can see all available iPhoto libnraries by depressing and holding the option key and launching iPhoto - the select library window will show all available libraries

  • IPhoto 09 freezes when trying to update from 08 library

Working on my parents' iMac G4. Running Leopard, updated to iLife 09 (which is compatible, except for iMovie per Apple page). I started iPhoto 09 and it indicates the library needs to be updated.
the first few times I ran this, it froze with 38 minutes remaining. After a couple tries, I went into Users/Preferences and removed the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file. It then got farther along and now freezes at 8 minutes remaining.
I am not sure what the problem is or if there is a fix. Not too worried about the photos themselves--have time machine running, etc. This should be working. Any help?

The most likely cause is the app is meeting a damaged or corrupt file in the updating process. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I downloaded Yosemite and now I can't access my iPhoto library. I tried to download the latest version from the app store but i can't. Any advice?

I am unable to access or update my iPhoto library now that I have Yosemite. Can someone help me resolve this issue? I don't want to loose all of my pics & videos.
    Thanks!!!

I will request that your query be relocated to the iPhoto forum where knowledgeable iPhoto users will be able to assist you.
    Ciao.

  • My IPhoto Library is unreadable Tried everything recommended even deleted IPhoto and I still get the error message

    Hi
I keep getting the error message  (photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable ) I've tried everything that has been suggested, I've even deleted Iphoto and reinstalled it ,but this doesn't work, I even reinstalled Lion, without success. I've checked for virus s and that is ok. Any ideas as to what the problem is and how can I solve it.
    Regards
    Richard

    Try this solution:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects. Your original libraruy will not be affected. It will still exist in case you want to try other fixes on it.

  • IPhoto won't open.  Says CAUTIONThe iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library.

I tries to verify that my photos were being backed up on Time Machine to an external harddrive, because I would like to delete my Camera Roll on my iPhone.  I was not able to view any photos in my backed up photo library, after entering Time machine.  Now, I can't even open iPhoto on my iMac with the pop up box warning me that the library is a Time machine backup....which it shouldn't be, because I'm openning iPhoto on my Mac...NOT the external HD.
What happened, and how do I access my photos?

It sounds like you went into the Time Machine hard drive, found a library and "dragged" it to your Pictures folder or wherever on your hard drive.  That's not the way to do it.
Go to your Pictures folder and enter Time Machine via the TM menu in the menu bar:
Then follow the instructions in this screenshot:

  • I had a iphone 3gs on contract then upgraded to 4s then i allowed the sync between the 2 phones then deleted contacts off both phones tried a backup from iclud and now the phones are exactly the same and my main 4s wont work

i had a iphone 3gs on contract which ended so i upgraded to 4s. had the 3gs cleaned as a second phone for my partner. i then allowed the sync between the 2 so whatever was on mine would be on the other and vise versa. this meant the contacts was aswell so i deleted them not knowing they would be removed from both, i then tried a backup to icloud to restore the lost canotacts instead it seemed to clone my new 4s from my old 3gs and now the features on the 4s wont work. music and tunes have been lost along with all my messages
    please help me

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

  • Ipad won't turn on after trying to backup from ICloud

I need help getting my Ipad to turn on after trying to restore from an ICloud backup. My Ipad is up to date on software. I went back to factory setting and that worked. Then when I tried to restore from an ICloud backup, it started the process and somehow got frozen in the process. After a few hours, I pressed the button athe the top and the home button simultaneously and turned it off. When I turned it back on all that comes on is a black screen with an apple in the middle of the screen with a bar below it that is only about a quarter complete. Please help me.

It sounds like you need to restore your iPad and you will probably need recovery mode now.
Recovery mode - Support - Apple
You could try resetting the iPad one more time, but I don't think it is going to work.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • My iPhoto library does not play the sound from videos by my digital camera

Hello, although the videos from my digital camera used to play sound from the iPhoto library, now they don't. only videos playing sound are the ones from the iPhone.  The digital camera videos, do play sound on media player.  Please help.  Thank you

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If the problem persists log into another user account on your Mac, create another test library and test to see if the problem persists there.  Does it?
Can you export a video from the digital camera to the Desktop as Kind = Original and play it with Quicktime Player?  Does the sound play then?

  • I lost my iPhoto library..how do I restore from time machine?

Yesterday, I upgraded my late 2008 MacBook Pro to OS X Maverick 10.9.1.  Everything was functioning fine.  Then, I decided to purchase the iphoto upgrade so I can take advantage of the icloud feature.  After I did this, my entire iphoto library was replaced by a folder called Recoverd iPhoto Library.  The vast majority of my many photos were missing.  I have been backing up onto a hard drive regularly.  When I went to restore my iPhoto library, it told me that it couldn't be restored because there is not enough space on my laptop.  In fact, my entire hard drive is smaller than the size of the iPhoto library on my G-slim drive.  When I try to restore, it tells me that there is not enough space.  But yesterday it was all on my mac.  How is this possible and how do I get these pictures back onto my laptop?  Is there a way to restore my entire system to a previous date?  Thanks!

OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
