Iphoto library/pics

Sorry not for sure how to reference the topic that I have a question on.
Here is the problem:
I have pic of my pet that I love and it shows up on my origianl Pic log, my events page, in a couple of folders that I have put it in, my mobile me gallery, my desk top pic folder.
The problem is anytime that I am in iphoto and I try to make the pic full screen or even larger inside iphoto it turns to black and will not show up. It will cover the full page when I set it to my desk top from iphoto or from my system preference iphoto selection.
Does anyone know why this is or if there is a way to restore? Because it is still in the library. My concern is if I want to email or print it out later or if I want to show my pics on a slideshow or something.
thanks for the help brandon

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Newbie - iPhoto Library Pics not imported

I always get the message below when opening i Photo:
71895 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that were not imported. I always click no and have tried the suggestions on how to solve the problem but it does not work. One of the suggestions says to look in the root directory for recovered photos and move to the desk top.
Where is the root directory and how do I move the folder? Please take note this is my first Mac.
    Best regards,

Please take note this is my first Mac.
If it's less than two or three years old, then I'm guessing your version of iPhoto is newer than iPhoto 4, and you are likely to get more appropriate responses from the discussion forum that corresponds to the iPhoto version you are using.

  • Iphoto library not available as screensaver

I want my computer to show my pictures from the iPhoto library, as the screensaver. I always had that but now in Mountain Lion the iPhoto library is not available as an option to select. I do have the possibility to select my PhotoBooth picture, but I want my iPhoto Library. Anyone have the same issue and, more importatn, does anyone know how to fix this?

you can choose to use your iphoto library pics by going into system prefs/desktop & screensaver
click on screensaver and make sure you choose a screen saver option that uses pictures (such as floating, snapshots, etc)
now next to source option hit the drop down and your iphoto library should be an option to choose
once you choose iphoto library it will further give you options to use specific event pics etc.
the following article also talks about screensavers in mt lion:

  • Problem syncing iPhoto 6 pics to my iPod touch...it adds an extra folder

Not sure which product forum to post this on, but here I go.
I'm ending up with way too many photos on my iPod. When I sync my iPod touch in iTunes it asks for the source of pictures so I select iPhoto. Then it asks which specific albums I want to sync. I select a few of them.
When I open the photo function on the touch it shows all the specific albums I selected PLUS it adds one that it calls "Photo Library" which has a variety of my iPhoto library pics...
How can I get rid of it???

  • IPhoto library gone

I tried to post this under iPhoto topic, but the web site kept giving an error message so I am posting it here. I recently purchased a Canon dig camera and loaded the software to download pics. In the Image browser (of the software) there is a topic box with a Pictures folder and Movie folder. In the pictures folder there was an icon for all my iPhoto library pics and also desktop pics etc. I thought that these were probably aliases and since I was not in any of my HD folders (just in the Canon software program) etc I deleted them from the Canon software windows. (I did not want duplicates of all iPhoto pics etc.) Now I cannot find my iPhoto library even after doing a "find" and all my pics are gone. I couldn't believe that they could be deleted from a third party software program since I was not even in any of my libraries or HD, desktop folders. So it looks like I deleted all my pics (still don't understand it). Am I just not looking in the right spot for the missing folder? Sorry for the stupidity.

"the web site kept giving an error message"
What did the message state? Which iPhoto forum. There are several? Please report error along w/the above requested info over on the Feedback about Discussions Forums so that it can be taken care of.
For the record, I had no problem getting into any of the iPhoto forums.

  • Photos do not show up in iPhoto yet still in user/pics/iPhoto Library. Why?

I opened iPhoto 6.0.3 today only to find it void of all my pictures and of any sourcer folders I created for each year pictures were taken. However, all my pics are still in user/pictures/iPhoto Library along with all the Data folder, created folders etc. I've tried to drag some of the pictures to iPhoto but it warns: "The following file could not be imported. (The file is in the iPhoto Library)". So if my pictures are correctly located in the user/pictures/iPhoto Library, why are they not showing up when I open iPhoto? Any ideas?

First, if the photos are in the Originals folder they they are already in the library even if the don't show (unless you placed them in that folder via the Finder).
Try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Now launch iPhoto and see if that helped.

  • I can't open my backed-up Iphoto Library on my new Mac with upgraded iLife. How can I retrieve all my pics??

Having backed-up my old iMac using time machine, thinking to open up my iPhoto Library to retrieve all pics from Time Machine, but iPhoto doesn't let me open it. First a pop-up appears: "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete." When I click Upgrade another pop-up appears "You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto." But I am using the latest version iLife 11. Is there a way to open up the library in a different way, so I can get my pics back???

It sounds like the restored database is damaged.

  • HT2488 I imported pictures into iPhoto from my iPhone, when trying to find my pictures by clicking on iPhoto Library it is always empty. I had to create a new folder and copy the same exact pics in the new folder just to be able to access them.. help plea

I imported photos into iPhoto from my iPhone, however i cannot access them. When clicking on iPhoto Library where they should be stored the folder is blank but if i open up iphoto from the dock menu they appear. I had to create a new folder just to access them. help please, because making a new folder takes up unnecessary space.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to get pics from iphone to iphoto library on hard drive

Hi there. I saved my photo library to an EHD. I pointed iphoto to open the library from EHD. Normally when I connect my iphone to my macbook pro, iphoto just pops up asking to import the pics from my phone. But now it doesn't do that and it doesn't show my phone on the left pane of i photo. How do I get my pics and videos from my iphone into the iphoto library i saved on my ehd? Thanks!

    Greetings,
Make sure your external hard drive is Mac formated and has a reasonable amount of space available.
--- Side note:  If you haven't already, you should tell TimeMachine to backup that external hard drive as Time Machine only backs up your internal hard drive by default.
    Try:
    1. Install all software updates for both your computer and your iPhone and turn both on and off and re-plug the cable between them.
    2. Try importing your pictures and movies using Image Capture found in Macintosh HD > Applications.
-- If Image Capture sees your iPhone when iPhoto does not, try creating a new iPhoto library on your internal drive to see if that library can see your iPhone.  This is done by launching iPhoto while holding down the option key.
If those steps do not help, follow this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3195
    Cheers.

  • I want to create for the first time ever an iPhoto library on my Mac Mini from all of my seperate external hard drives over the years. Instead of filling my Mac Mini hard drive space with all of the pics can I import it to a seperate Apple hard drive.

I want to creat for the first time on my Mac Mini an iPhoto library. I have many seperate hard drives with pics I want to import but are concerned I will fill the hard drive with pics alone. Can I install the pics on one larg (1TB) external apple hard drive and use iPhoto functions still with the pics being installed on a seperate drive from the iPhoto OS?

This is our resident iPhoto guru, Terence Devlin's, advice:
You can move your iPhoto Library to an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Once that is done you can import directly into the iPhoto library on the external HD.

  • TD or Old Toad pls help: Renamed iPhoto Library File....no pics in iPhoto6

I am working on my parents computer... they have iPhoto 6 and I renamed the iPhoto Library folder in Finder. Obviously this is not a good idea since now there is no content (pics) in iPhoto.
This action made a new folder (with the new name) in Finder's 'pictures' file. So, I tried to copy and paste (or maybe I highlighted & moved it, can't recall) the contents of the newly named folder back under the 'iphoto library' folder however, that did not make the photos reappear in iPhoto.
After moving (I think I highlighted & dragged) the file contents of the newly named folder back in the 'iPhoto Library' folder, I deleted the newly named/created file.
The individual pics seem to be in the modified & originalsfolder but I do not know how to get them back into iPhoto..
I attempted to rebuild the iPhoto library but it seemed like an empty request since the computer didnt do anything when this option was selected.
I know there is a solution but I dont know the smartest nextstep. I have read related discussions that almost provide a solution.
Currently, I need to figure out a way to:
    1) get what seems to still exist in the modified & original folders back into iPhoto even if it means loosing album names, keywords. I am hoping this route doesn’t wipe out dates from when the images were taken. If there is a way to get them back into iPhoto this route, I need instructions.
    or,
    2) I have a back up of the entire HD on an external HD. Would itbe best to somehow use that to replace what I have on the computer HD? I do not know how to do this so for sure need guidance.
    or,
    3) Find another solution, quickly…
Thank you so very much as I need to fix this ASAP.

See my reply in your other thread.

  • My iWeb pics are not in my iPhoto library - and have not been for a long time.  I want to get my photos back off iWeb - any suggestions on how to do this?

I want to get copies of the pics on my iWeb but they are not in my iphoto library anymore.  Does anyone know how I can get them - easier and faster than downloading my own pics one at a time?

    A visual:

  • IPhoto library won't load thumbnails or pics

A couple of months back, I noticed that some thumbnails in my iPhoto library were not being loaded (maybe 10% of folders), and a number of photo's inside the folder were blank, and would also not load.  The folder thumbnails would flicker on and off when scrolling down the folders, and the folders themselves show the 'reflection' of the folder pic in front of it, but not on the actual, folder.
I then noticed that some folders had totally disappeared, so I restored from my Time Machine from a couple of months previous.  Missing folders re-appeared, but I still had blank thumbnails, and pics unable to open.  I tried the 4 iPhoto repair options, but it made no difference.
I then restored from an even older Time Machine backup, but now, most of my thumbnail pics are missing (about 90%), and I can't open most of my photos.  I don't understand how this is happening, as when the backup was made, the iPhoto library was fine.
I'm now beginning to think that my hard drive on my Mac may be corrupt, and I'm restoring to a faulty drive.  Can anyone help?
I'm on OSX 10.6 (I think), and it may be worth noting that I tried updating the OS 2 months ago, but it crashed my Mac, and I had to restore.
    Thanks
    Lee

    Apologies for the delayed response.
    I'm running iPhoto V9.5.1 (902.17) on OSX 10.9.3.
    Thanks

It's says that file does not exist. How come? And why does it still show the image info.?
Where can i find those files (i have a daily backup)
The original image files are missing form your iPhoto library or iPhoto cannot find them, because the link to the originals has been broken. The image info is stored in the internal libraries, independent of the original files. That is, why you are still seeing them.
I restored the whole library from my backup.
Try restoring from an older backup, from before you first noticed the problem.
How large is the library, that you restored? Is the file size large enough to hold all your photos, or has the size been reduced?  If the library is still large, the photos may still be inside, even if iPhoto cannot find them.
It's says that file does not exist. How come?
What happened, before your iPhoto library got deleted? Which applications have you been running, or which new software have installed or upgraded?  Have you moved the library to a different disk or tried to use it from different user account or access it over the network?

  • Pics in iPhoto Disappeared after renaming iPhoto Library File in Finder

    Friends,
I was working on my parents computer in an effort to help them organize their files, etc.
They have iPhoto 6 and I renamed the iPhoto Library folder in Finder. Obviously this is not a good idea since now there is no content (pictures) in iPhoto.
This action made a new folder (with the new name) in Finder's 'pictures' section. So, I tried to copy and paste (or maybe I dragged it, cant recall) the contents of the newly named folder back under the 'iphoto library' folder however, that did not make the photos reappear in iPhoto.
After moving (I think I highlighted & dragged) the file contents of the newly named folder back in the 'iPhoto Library' folder, I deleted the newly named/created file.
It appears as though the images are still in the original & modified folders however, no pics in iPhoto.
And, the irony of the entire action is that I was renaming the 'iPhoto Library' folder to 'iPhoto Library - Do Not Touch' so my parents would not mess with the content as they have done in the past. Apparently, I am the one who needs to stay away.
    Thanks a bunch!

Thanks Badunit, and yes, you are correct about not having the newly named library to choose when holding down the Option key while opening iPhoto.....b/c I drug the contents back under the original iPhoto library folder and then deleted the newly name folder.
The individual pics seem to be in the modified & originals folder but I do not know how to get them back into iPhoto. Importing one by one doesnt seem like the correct option.
I attempted to rebuild the iPhoto library but that resulted in nothing happening when I choose that option.
