IPhoto library use in elements

is elements a plug in from the inspector tab in iphoto and aperature.  do I have to export a photo to use it in elements?

You can set up the PSE12 Editor App in iPhoto prefs for external editing straight from the iPhoto Library and saving back into the iPhoto Library.

  • When I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.

So starting recently (last couple of months) when I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.  There's nothing there, it's just completely blank, when in the past my whole iPhoto library would show up with thumbnails and I could just choose the pic to attach.  Now I have to drag the photos I want from iPhoto onto the desktop and then I can find them there to attach to my e-mail.  How can I get my iPhoto library to show back up the simple way when I want to attach photos?  I've been having this problem attaching photos in hotmail or yahoo.

It should be an attachment.  Your Mac just displays a preview of certain attachments (such as .pdfs) in the body of the message.  A PC, for example, will see it as an attached file rather than a preview.
You can save the attachment on your Mac by Control-clicking on it and selecting Save Attachment.

  • When opening the latest version of Iphoto an error message appears that says; You can't open your current iphoto library using this version of Iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the lat

When opening the version of Iphoto i have an error message appears that says; You can't open your current iphoto library using this version of Iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto. What? If I can't open the current library using the latest version of iphoto, and I am asked to make changes the the newest version!!! I'm asked to run in circles chasing my tail...I had a new hard drive installed about 6 weeks ago. I am running MAC OS 10.5.8

What version of iPhoto do you have? If you're on 10.5 then you're not running the latest iPhoto
Any chance that the library was opened with another version?
Simplest solution will be to just restore from your back up.

  • All of a sudden, I'm getting an error that says I can't open my current iPhoto library using this version of iPhoto. Then it tells me to use the latest version. But I don't know how and I don't know when it changed....

I cannot open iPhoto. The error reads: "You can't open your current iPhoto library using this version of iPhoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version."
But, I don't ever recall doing that, and I need to access my iPhoto. Anyone help?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How can I access the iphoto library using windows pc? Upgrading to aperture solves my problem?

How can I access the iphoto library using windows pc? Upgrading to aperture solves my problem?
My home network is used both by my macbook and my wife's windows pc. Considering that, I would like to know if we can share our pictures with each other (specially because I intend to store all of them into a NAS storage - WD My Cloud, probably).

No you can not - neither iPhoto nor Aperture has any cross platform capability
You can share photos with the PC using MyPhotoStream or Shared PhotoStreames
You can not share the iPhoto library
And you can not put the iPHoto library on a NAS - it MUST always be on a volume formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and mube on a fast wired local connection - it can not be on a Network
There are Digital Asset Managers that can do what you want - iPhoto and Aperture can not

  • Can someone please tell me how to import a photo from my iPhoto library into Photoshop Elements 11.             o library

Can someone tell me how to import a photo from my iPhoto library into Photo Shop Elements 11.  When I am in Photo Shop Elements and I go to import the only option is to import from a camera.  I want to import a photo from iPhoto.  If I can't figure this out Photo Shop Elements is totally useless to me.

Not sure what you are trying to do
If you want to use PSE as an editor for iPhoto then set it in the iPhoto preferences (you need to search the forums for the exact settings - they are not obvious)
The general answer to yoru question is to import a photo form iPhoto to  any other program is to select the photo in iPhoto and export to the desktop and import from there
Please explain what it is taht you want to do

  • I cant open my current iPhoto library using this version (8.1.2) of iPhoto

I recently (August 2014) bought a new macbook pro with OS X Maverick 10.9.4 and I have an old white macbook with OS X 10.7.5. I went to the apple store to transfer all of my data from my old mac to my new mac. Everything synced except for my photos in iPhoto, which I had alot of. The people at apple sent me home with cable cords to try syncing my iPhoto again but when I got home to open my iPhoto on my old mac, the app gave me a message that had the title "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto" and with the subtext "You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto." The message gives me a 'quit' button and that's it. My time-machine also doesn't work (which is a whole different story) so I can't use that to get to my iPhoto. I'm not sure if purchasing the new version of iPhoto on my old computer will work because I'm not sure if it will have all of my old photos in it that I need to access. I just really want my old iPhoto back with all my wonderful pictures

Connect the two systems together and drag the iPhoto library over from the old system to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto on the new system

  • Why is restoring my iphoto library using backup app not working?

    Hey,
I did not have enough space on my hard drive for all of my photos in iphoto. So I did a complete backup of my entire iphoto library onto an external hard drive. I have since upgraded to a new, larger internal hard drive. So I wanted to restore my complete iphoto library.
I used the Backup application to restore the files to iphoto, and Backup says the process was successful. When the application backed up my photos it created 10 different back up files, but only one of them has photo files in it. I restored them all, but only one actually restored my photos. So now my photos have been restored to iphoto, and I am able to see all the photos in each event when viewing them all at once, but if I double click to view a single image, the icon of a ! with a circle around it appears. So I don't really have any of my photos...I don't understand why this is or how to fix it.

What backup application did you use to make the backup and to try to recover the library?
The iPhoto 08 library is a unix style package and will have up to 16 items in it:
    Are you getting something similar?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Unable to attach photo in iPhoto library using gmail in Safari

I am unable to attach a photo that is in the iphoto library when I am sending an email from my gmail account in Safari. The way it should work is to go to Compose new emai, then click on attach file which opens a window to navigate to the photos folder. Inside that folder is a iphoto library which has the photo I want to send. It is not possible to open the library and choose the photo! Instead it tries to attach the entire library! I have no problem attaching photos that are in folders in the photos folder.
I know Ican open the photos folder and find the picture and drag it to the message. What I want to do is be able to use the attach file dialogue window. Thanks!!!

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then remove all Google related data.
    Same for Jimdo.
Then press Command + Option + E to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari then try Gmail or Jimdo.
    If that didn't help ..
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try Gmail to test.

  • Will migrating my iPhoto library use up iCloud storage?

Hi! If I migrate my 50GB iPhoto library to Photos will it upload it all to iCloud? this would take up far to much storage on my iOS devices
Also...... how do I actually migrate it ?? I can't work it out.
    Thanks for your help!

It will only use your iCloud storage allocation if you enable iCloud photo library, if you use photo stream and iCloud photo sharing it will use the cloud but this use won't count towards your allocation of iCloud space.
When you open your old library with Photos for the first time the Photos app will automatically update your library for you.

  • Lost my iPhoto library using iboostup.

somehow i managed to put my whole iphoto library in the trash then did a quick clean using iboostup now have lost all photos, work and family. Is there any way i can undo the quick clean and recover my photos. any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Normal" use of the trash (provided you don't use "securely empty trash") may allow data recovery software such as DataRescue to locate and recover your files. I'm not familiar with how iBoostup works; if it simply empties the trash, this may still work.
However, if you have Time Machine set up, backing up automatically to an external hard drive, your better approach is to look at the TM data. In your menubar (at the top right of the screen) you'll see a series of icons; one is the Time Machine icon (it's a small "clock" symbol with a curved arrow pointing anti-clockwise). Click that and click "Enter Time Machine". If the backups are running, you should then see a "starscape" screen with dates along the right side. You can go back to before you did the cleanup, navigate into the Pictures folder, choose the iPhoto Library and click Recover.
More information on Time Machine recovery (click Restoring Data from Time Machine Backups):

  • Wish to rebuild iPhoto library using iphoto library manager

I have an iPhoto library with name 'iPhoto Library LS'. I wish to rebuild it using iPhoto Library Manager. I was just wondering if I can rebuild it and give it new name of 'iPhoto Library' instead?
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

    Hello Terance/BG,
I wanted to piggyback on this thread. I recently re-built my primary library in iPhoto with the help of iPhoto Library Manager. I noticed that the rebuild created a new library called "Default". I opened with the new re-built library and everything seems to be running fine. Can I now delete the old "iPhoto Library" in order to maintain hard drive space?

  • Sharing iPhoto Library using ACLs

I've set things up as per the instructions listed in the thread "How can 2 admin's share a library without duplicating" and all of the permissions look correct, but I have one question. Why can my wife only see the images in a slideshow that have been modified? In other words, when I set up a slideshow, and only modify certain images, those image files are then duplicated in the 'Modified' subdirectory of the iPhoto Library folder, correct? Well, when my wife goes to view the same slideshow on her user account, she can only see those 'modified' images. All the 'unmodified' images appear as those gray boxes with the '?' inside. Why might this be and what might I be able to do to remedy the situation?

If you're not able to resolve your issue you might want to look at Tutorial #4 - Sharing an Alias Based iPhoto 6 Library Between Multiple Users on the Same Mac or on Multiple Macs. It may fit your situation and be easier to implement.
