IPhoto - Loading takes 5-10 minutes
Hi,
When I start iPhoto, it takes about 5-10 minutes to load, before i get can do anything with iPhoto. The same thing happen from FrontRow, it takes forever to display photos
from my two album (with 77 & 50 photos only - no videoclips).
I've posted this problem earlier, and Terence asked me to
rebuild the iPhoto database, which i did, but this does not
appear to solve the problem.
Please advice.
Thanks
Sajid
Also do you have all your rolls open when iPhoto is launched? How much free space do you have on your boot drive?
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

IPhoto 08 takes fully 1 minute to load
have rebuilt library, have repaired permissions, program opens quickly and shows thumbnails but disc symbol will begin to rotate and it takes full minute before usable. is this normal? 2300 photos total 1.82gb size library.
I found that iPhoto would suddenly take upwards of FIVE full minutes to load. I hadn't noticed this previously, but clearing the "Look for shared photos" in Preferences made a VAST difference to the loading time.
I wonder if the recent update(s) to iPhoto have activated this by default? I'm sure I didn't turn it on...
Still, thanks to this thread, I'm back to normal. -
IPhoto '08 takes 1 1/2 minutes to load.
When I open iPhoto it takes one and a half minutes to load. Then a box pops up asking me if I want more information about iLife '09. I clicked on the box " to not ask me again". iphoto still is taking over a minute to open. Any suggestions?
Marie
Welcome to the Apple user to user discussion forums
in the iPhoto preferences turn off sharing and set look for new photos on the web to manually - quit in event view so iPhoto will open in event view each time
Those should help

After Firefox loads the home page (google), the first web site I click in my bookmarks takes 4-6 minutes to come in. Clicking on screen makes it go half-tone until it loads. From then on, all other bookmarks come in fast. It doesn't matter what bookmark I load first, it always takes major minutes. I am using Norton 360 and have even disabled the security and web checking and it made no difference.
Okay, here's what I found out. Followed the above instructions...no joy. I think this maybe needs to be posted in a general OS forum, as I'm thinking this is more about that vs just being about iPhoto/iTunes. Here's what I tried and learned.
A new account allowed iPhoto to open up immediately. However, iTunes seemed a touch slow...not sure if that is just due to it being a new account. So, I deleted that account and moved on to the preferences instructions above.
I removed all preferences and placed them in a "preferences A" folder on the desktop. Launched iPhoto and got the exact same results. Super slow...took forever to open. Took forever to close. Same with iTunes.
So I placed all of the removed preferences back into the folder and decided to start launching and closing apps to see what's affected, what's not. Here are the findings.
iPhoto - The worst of all. Takes 4 minutes to open.
Mail - Opens fine, closes very slowly...apprx 1 minute
Calculator - This now opens incredibly slowly. Also noticed that the blue light below a launching app in the dock that seems to radiate was not radiating immediately....just sort of sat there. About a minutes passes, then it radiates for a second and calculator opens. Quitting is instant
Garageband - Launching is slooooow, quitting is instant.
Lightroom 3 - quitting is slow....quit results in upper-left menu items flashing once, then beach ball for about 30 seconds.
These apps check out perfectly fine with no problems launching or quitting: iCal, Safari, Firefox, Aperture, Photoshop (CS3), Illustrator (CS3), InDesign (CS3), Acrobat, Suitcase, Image Capture, Disk Utility, Text Edit, Photo booth, Final Cut Pro.
So I'm at a loss. This may be more of an OS issue, but figured I'd post here to follow up on the suggestions given. I think I'll pose a question in the OS forums. I'm thinking this might mean boxing up the iMac and making a trip to the genius bar. It's incredibly frustrating. -
IWeb takes over 10 minutes to load
When I try to load iWeb it take over 10 minutes to load. Anyone else have this problem? Can I stop it from loading iPhoto along side >?
Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
Launch iWeb and see if you can add photos from iPhoto now. What iWeb uses to see the photos in iPhoto is the AlbumData.xml file that is created in the iPhoto Library package. If the above doesn't work try the following:
1 - close iPhoto.
2 - go to your Pictures folder, select your library package and open it as shown in this screenshot:
3 - locate the AlbumData.xml and AlbumData2.xml file and move them to the desktop.
4 - launch iPhoto which will recreate those files.
5 - launch iWeb and try again.
A last suggestion is to reapply the iLife Media Browser Update and the iLife Support 9.0.3 update. -
IPhoto 8 takes too long to load
I am using iPhoto 8.1.2, sometimes it takes over 2 minutes to load iPhoto, the other time a few seconds, why is that? I have been using 7 for a while, upgraded to a new MBP and using version 8 now. Thanks! Alex
Could be many things
a few things to check - in the iPhoto preferences be sure that item counts are not checked, that all sharing options are not checked and that all web sync options are set to manual
Also leave the display in events not place or photo view

Since mid-February 2014, having problems with both Photoshop Elements 10 and Photoshop CS4 extended (v 11.0.2) - both take around 4 minutes to load, when previously they loaded very quickly.
In Photoshop CS4 there is no activity on-screen for 2 minutes, then it hangs on the start up screen for another two minutes on "Scanning for plug-ins." Similar issue with Elements 10.
I am running on Windows 8.1, 64-bit. I also have Lightroom 5.4 installed.
Any help gratefully received, as this is driving me mad!UPDATE: After having had my iPod plugged in for TWO HOURS, it has finally been detected by iTunes.

FCP takes 15-20 minutes to start, once it's loaded plug-ins
Once plug-ins are loaded and RT bits are done, FCP 7 takes 15-20 minutes to start. I've closed projects, I've deleted preferences, repaired disk permissions but still no joy.
Activity Utility suggests that FCP is looking for a previous files assets.
Had anyone else experienced this?
Many thanksBy default, FCP will try to load the last project that was active.
While 15-20 minutes is a long time to try loading even a missing project and it's media, you might try turning this option off. Click in the menu bar where you see *Final Cut Pro* in bold typeface.
Go to User Preferences.
De-select the option "Open last project on application launch" in the General tab.
Post back with your results.

IPhoto takes 4-5 minutes to launch...new problem as of today
Hi all, I'm on my phone typing as my Internet is down...all kinds of problems today so bear with me.
Suddenly today my iPhoto started acting weird. Well, it as well as the other iLife programs. At first I was noticing that, when quitting, the apps would hang, including iPhoto. I'd either have to force quit or give it a good 3 minutes.
I started by repairing pemissions. That didn't help at all.
So next I trashed the iPhoto .plist. That really screwed things up as iPhoto would launch, but would only give me the iPhoto window....there was no content.
I then rebuil the library. When I launched it, it again sat there for a while. However, I did finally pull up my photos, everything intact. So I quit it and launched again...and that brings me to where I'm at. It launches, but it takes approximately 4-5 minutes for it to finally do so. The spinnig wheel is up that whole time. Thus has never happened. All of my iLife apps have always been super snappy, opening in mere seconds. That includes iPhoto...it was one of the fastest, but now takes about 5 minutes to launch.
The only change tithe machine is that I installed adobe lightroom 3 the other day, but that also seemed fine...meaning the problem just cropped up today.
This seems to be affecting iTunes as well.
Any idea what in the world is going on and more importantly, know a remedy? I've done all I know to do per above. Any suggestions? Thanks!Okay, here's what I found out. ITunes 7.5 Takes 5-6 minutes to Load!
If ever. I get the spinning beach ball for a good five minutes. What is wrong with this update?
Roy, it is happening each time iTunes starts.
This is a synopsis of what I have found so far:
It started happening immediately after updating iTunes 7.5
The problem is repeatable.
For my iTunes collection (4,000 + songs, 163 GB), it takes abut 9 minutes before I get iTunes back from the spinning ball.
I have two iTunes Libraries. It only happens for one of the libraries, but it happens consistently for that Library.
I have renewed the iTunes Library database based on an import of the .xml file.
I have regenerated the .xml file from just the database.
I have replaced the .plist preference file.
None of this has had any effect.
While watching iTunes in the Activity Monitor, I can see it opening each and every music file while the HD thrashes. This is what is taking all the time. -
My Imac takes about 8 minutes to be fully functional after a restart or awakened from the sleep mode. I can hear the hard drive making a number of gyrations before it's ready to let me do stuff. This is a 5 year old machine and was much faster in the beginning. Any suggestions?
Impossible to say however it may need more RAM, or if you have been turning it off every day it isn't given the opportunity to run it's daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. This is all done in the background in the middle of the night. I would recommend following the steps in 25 Ways to Speed Up Your Mac until you find the cause of your slowdown.

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.
The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB RAM installed. The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.

Webdynpro application loading takes long after deployment
Hi Experts,
We are facing this strange kind of a problem. Whenever we deploy a webdynpro DC and then runs an application for the first time, it takes long long time to load - more than 20 minutes some times. But, the next run after it doesn't take any time at all.
This also happens when a dependent DC is deployed.
I can also see that this time to load gradually increases day by day. Once a restart happens, the time to load after deployment is much reduced, but as we work and deploy each day, this delay increases and climbs up to even half-an-hour sometimes.
Can anyone give any way to track and solve this issue.
Thanks
Vijay.KHi Vijay,
See [WebDynpro Java Resource Consumption|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/b5/7e1141e109ef6fe10000000a1550b0/content.htm] documentation. You may use the parameter sap.session.ssr.showInfo=true in the application URL for analysis. [For 2004s only!]
or you can also see that if any other parameters are included in the application URL in browser. BTW, could you please share info like server version, browser using, backend services etc ?

Strange: suddenly logic takes about ten minutes to start!
hi!
some hours ago I worked on a logic film underscore project. so i had a quicktime movie loaded in my project.
then I opened the final cut project from which the movie was from. I don't remember if I closed the logic project before, but the actual movie file was just a bounce, not used by both of the apps.
when I tried to open the logic project later it seemed to stop doing anything just after closing the startup screen, so I thought there was a problem with final cut causing logic to crash.
As final cut always takes "hours" to check the waves plugins on every booting, I always swich between special logic- and fcp- sets in "AudioUnit Manager", a tool to have different configs of AUs for different apps or so. Never had any problem for years with that.
So I tried everything with the AU plugins. nothing.
Then I renewed logic's prefs and all that stuff. nothing. then I installed the new pro application support. HEEY! it worked again. but just for a while.
opening other (even small) projects still takes about ten minutes now. nice coffee pause..:-) but I can't drink that much coffee at night.
what can it be? a problem with the project manager?
any suggestion?
cheers
david
PPC Dual G5, 2,5 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.8) 2,5 GB RAM FW410are you using sample base instruments in those projects a lot using exs or kontakt? when paths to samples get messed up for some reason it can result in along waiting times each time a project is loaded.
lately my kontakt samples get loaded without any sign of activity. if it is a large orchestral score i see a dead screen for quite a while before suddenly everything pops up and is ready to work with. i recall seeing progress bars or similar things in the past though...
repair permissions and defragging (idefrag) may help as well.
btw. i can drink as much coffee as i want late at night, even five minutes later i can sleep well. seems i am immune. but right now i am also having plenty of hardware issues to deal with so that's a good thing i guess...! -
