Iphoto loads when i connect my camera, then sits there looking at me :)

Hi everyone - I have a Fuji finepix S5500 and on my old Ibook or mac mini (iphoto5) when i connected the camera iphoto loaded and prompted me to import.. now with this new mac and Iphoto6 wehn i connect the camera it loads Iphoto, shows a new drive on the decktop but Iphoto does nothing, I have to manuallt tell it to import and from where..
when first ran it asked if i wanted to auto import and i said yes..
any ideas??
the only thing i can think of is that being an Intel system I cannot run flip4mac, the program that allowed me to access the movies from the camera, and as such Iphoto freaks out at the site of movies it doesnt know..
now another member on these forums told me how to get flip4mac working on an intel system but it made finder crash when trying to browse a directory with these movies so i removed it..
so might there be another solution?

Solution - Cleared the AVI files from the camera and left only pictures, now everything happy..

Here is the full story. It may be long so please bear with me. I take a lot of pictures and movies. Since I have over 30,000 pictures I decided to place the Iphoto library on an external drive to save space on my internal drive since ot was getting very full. After I did that it worked fine for a while. Then one day I could not open the Iphoto library. Since I was overseas at the time I brought it to the IStudio ( not an Istore) overseas. They said to rebuild the library and they would do that for me. It took all day since I had so many pictures. When they called me and told me it was ready, I went to pick it up. They started to show me the new library. It crashed again. Not knowing how to fix this at the ISudio, they installed Aperture and imported the Iphoto library. This worked fine for a short time.When back in the states, it crashed again just like Iphoto. I took it to the IStore. They did not know why the overseas Istudio did what they did what they did and rebuilt my aperture library. Again it worked fine. Now that I am overseas again. It crashed again. However, I concluded that the reason for these crashes is becuase I have the file on an external drive that derives its power from the Mac and not by itself. When I use it and stop for a while the MAC will go to sleep and this cuases the external drive to shut down. This then causes the library to have inconsistancies. Therefore, when it happened this time I tried to repair the library and after 36 hours it would close down Aperture. Therefore I decided to rebuild the library. That did not work either. So I tried opening the Aperture library with Iphoto. That seemed like it was going to work but after importing half of the 30,000 plus pictures. I photo shut down. I then made a new aperture libary and erged the old library with it. This worked. I now have an aperture library that works. However, when I plug my camera into the MAC nothing happens. The camera does not show up in devices in either Aperture, I photo nor in Finder. The USB port and cord I use works fine becuase I can read my external hard drives fine. I checked as SIG suggested in this thread and everything is set to open aperture when the camera is connected.
I have the newest OS version 10. 7. 2 and the computer frequently updates all my programs. I have not installed any ne software lately. The problem happens both if I am on battery or plugged in. Just before I came overseas the IStore replaced the Battery. I can go back to the IStudio here overseas but the last time I was there and told them about the problem ( I did not have my computer with me) they did not impress me with their wisdom. I will be back in that city in a month and can go there if need be. Thanks for all the help so far. God bless.

Welcome to the Sony Community!
I would recommend running the PMH Initialization tool to restore the PlayMemories Home to its initial settings. Also, check the USB Connect Setting of the camcorder itself. Set the USB setting to MTP/PTP modebefore connecting the camera to the computer.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, I suggest uninstalling and reinstalling PMH then restarting your computer before connecting the camera.

Camera Window pops the message "Cannot detect Camera, Check connection to camera, then retry"

I have installed Camera Window in my Windows 8.1 laptop. The moment I invoke Camera window, there is a popup which shows . "Cannot detect Camera, Check connection to camera, then retry. I do not have this issue in my iPAD though. Has anyone come across this issue..?Thanks

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

Then you will need to update to iOS 5.1.1 as outlined above. A word of caution before updating: be sure to import all your photos to your computer and back up your contacts (by syncing with a supported program such as Outlook, to an online service such as Google, or using an app like My Contacts Backup). Failure to do so risks losing your data.

How to disable iPhoto from starting up when I connect a camera?

I don't use iPhoto, but annoyingly, it starts itself every time I connect my camera to my iMac. How do I disable this? There seems to be nothing in "Preferences".
I have iPhoto 4. One of the gripes that I have, and a reason I don't use or update iPhoto, is that it seems to be impossible to upload just SOME of the photos in my camera. It's all or nothing. Does anyone know if later versions of iPhoto have fixed this?

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

I keep getting a "usb device requires too much power" error when I connect my external camera to my iPad.

Doing a search on here it looks like other people have the same problem with Sony cybershot cameras. If you have a card reader which doesn't draw too much power then you could try using that with the USB part of the kit.

I've downloaded the Canon software, connected to my mac via the cable and followed the instructions in the manual. Sadly I just get a message saying it's not compatible with the operating system. Camera RAW ≠ Camera driver, the RAW update is for the .CR2 canon raw image file (in your case) compatibility.
What happens when you try to import photos using Image Capture or iPhoto?
Can you take a screenshot of the error message?
I always prefer and recommend using memory card import over using the camera.

When i connected my camera my i photo library had disappeared

I connected my camera to my mac yesterday and it said my iphoto library had not been set up. I have been using it for years and has about 1000 pictures in it. My 4 yr old uses the computer but he cant put it in the recycle bin. any ideas?

You may have better luck posting in the iPhoto forum. You can locate it by clicking on Apple Support Communities then using the search by typing iPhoto.

HT4101 My ipad says the device uses too much power when I connect my camera

I brought my ipad 2 on holidays and have purchased the camera connection kit. I tried to download my photos and an error message came up saying that the device uses too much power! My ipad is powered up to 100% and I have closed any open files and it still says the same thing? Does this actually work or do I have to return it?

What have you connected to the kit ? The amount of power that is supplied to the kit is limited, and can't be changed - and a lot of card readers and cameras need more power than is supplied to it. If you have connected the kit directly to your camera then does your camera have a setting to enable 'mass storage device' and/or PTP (picture trasnfer protocol or pictbridge) ?

Where do photos go when you connect your camera to your iMac?

If there had been an EDIT button, I would have deleted this question. I was using a BRAND NEW hub when I posted it, but when I plugged my camera directly into the computers USB port, the process went as smoothly as it's supposed to. It went to IMAGE CAPTURE, which is where I suppose it belongs. However, this experience reminds me of my difficulties with hubs. Aren't there any reliable ones? The iMac's four USB ports aren't enough, but I haven't yet had a hub that lasted for any length of time. Do you have to buy the most expensive models in the market/
