IPhoto locks up when I try to view a photo I just took on my 4s

When I take a photo with the iPone 4s camera, a thumbnail dutifully appears at the bottom of the screen. If I select it to view the photo, iPhoto locks up...sometimes for minutes!

No once you get the selection window and select photos ==> iPhoto then it is an iPhoto issue
ust to confirm if you launch iPhoto everything is O? As a work around select the photo(s) and export (file menu ==> export) to a desktop folder and attach to your e-mail from there and then delete the folder

  • Stop iPhoto prompting Import when i try to view a Picture

Every picture on my Mac is in the iPhoto Library. I've set iPhoto to my default for opening picture files.
In Finder, the pictures are shown as belonging to iPhoto. Yet when I try to open the file from Finder, iPhoto prompts me to Duplicate the file, I tick the box saying apply to all and I say no. Then iPhoto just goes to Last Import. It doesn't even take me to the Picture.
How can I get it to stop prompting me to duplicate my pictures and just take me to the picture I clicked on!?
    Thanks in advance.

If all your photos are in iPhoto why are you trying to view them from the Finder? The point of iPhoto and such apps is that they replace the Finder for everything to do with your Photos.
Secondly: iPhoto is a database not an image viewer. If you set iPhoto as a defualt app for your phots then you're saying "Everytime I click on a pic import it to iPhoto for me"
So, if you want to open photos from the Finder then use an Image Viewer or if you want to use iPhoto, access the photos as designed: via the iPhoto Window.

  • Iphoto question. When I try to email a photo, it bounces back as being to large. My older Mac allowed me to send in a smaller format.

An iPhoto question .When I try to email several photos, an error message shows saying they are too large. My older Mac had 3 sizes to pick in sending photos. Is there a way to send my pics in a smaller size?

When iPhoto creates the email, look in the lower right for size options.

  • IChat locks up when I try to view video

I just purchased a new Logitech Pro 900 for Christmas and I plugged it in and turned on iChat. The first time I clicked on the video icon, the camera came on and worked great. Now whenever I open iChat an try to view the video, it locks up and I have to restart my computer. I have not yet even tried to video chat with anyone else. The camera turns on, but iChat just locks up. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
In Quicktime Pro for instance the Preferences > Recording allow you to set Device Native, Better and Good.
Some of this allow you to reduce the default pic size and therefore the framerate your Mac can produce them at.
Anything such as Pixels (pic size) or framerate or both.

  • My iPhoto goes black when I try to open a photo

I am running OS 10.7.5  and iPhoto 11 9.4.3  on an iMac. Yesterday I uploaded 620 photos into iPhoto. They worked perfectly and I was able to go through all of them after uploading. I did not close iPhoto last night but minimized it to the dock. Today when I tried to open a photo from the thumbnail, the screen went black. All my albums do the same thing. The first image clicked on comes up on the screen. Then it goes black and then nothing I do will bring up another image.
I restarted iPhoto but that did not help.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • When I try to view my photos it says they are offline.

When I try to open my pictures it says they are offline, how do I correct this?

You could also try the following so see if you can recover your photos.  If they are in the Masters or Original folder of your library but can't be recovered by the conventional rebuild/repair procedures perhaps this method will get them for you.
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • When I try to view my photos individually, a big grey '!' appears

My photos are all intact as thumbnails in my iPhoto library, but when I double click to view them individually, the screen fills with a grey '!'
The puzzling thing is....it only happens to photos that are in landscape (as opposed to portrait)
Hope someone has the answer to my problem..?!?
    Thank you...

    Rosalie
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
iPhoto is a database, and like any database it is designed so that any manipulation of the data is done via the app itself, not via another application such as the Finder.
What has happened here is that by renaming the rolls in the Finder, you have caused iPhoto to lose the connection between the thumbnails and the files they represent. The usual reason people do things in the iPhoto Library Folder is because they fear they will be unable to find a file should the need it.
However, there are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Your photos should be safe, still in the Originals folder. Unless you can recall - and undo - the changes you made, I'm afraid that the only thing to do is to start again, contructing a new library.

  • How do I access the data saved on my time capsule?  for example, if i try to view my photos it tells me that i have 2.4gb of photos and gives me the option to "view with iPhoto"....but when i click on "view with iPhoto" nothing happens...  thanks!

how do i access the data stored on my time capsule?  for example, if i try to view a photo, i get the option to "view with iphoto" but when i click on "view with iphoto" nothing happens.  i'm having similar trouble openning up movies, music, etc.  it appears as though the files exist / saved on the time capsule (because i can see how much storage they consume), but i can't open them.  thanks!

Unfortunately, Apple removed the feature to "browse backups" in Time Machine backups of iPhoto a few years ago.
You have to restore the entire iPhoto library to a separate location to be able to "see" it, and then choose the specific images that you want use.
For complete details, see #15 in Pondini's excellent support document Time Machine -- FAQ.  Check the information in the pink box there.

When I try to add photos from PhotoStream into my iPhoto Library a message appears asking to view the photo in the library (as if it were already imported).
How exacly are you trying to import from the Photo Stream? Dragging from the stream to the events? Ctrl-clicking or right clicking?
If "Show in Library" does not show the event, then your iPhoto Library may need repairing or rebuilding;  try to run the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools, if you have not already done so. See this post by Old Toad on how to do it:    Rebuild iPhoto Library Version 11:

1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
