IPhoto locks up while looking through photos. What do I do?

My iPhoto locks up while looking through photos.  What do I do to fix this?  iPhoto '09 8.1.2

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't  then you current library is damaged.
In that case apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How can I get the AirPlay information box to stop floating around my screen while looking at photos?

How can I get the AirPlay information box to stop floating around my screen while looking at photos?

    Thanks for answering
Well, the CS2 was my 1st full program that now my son is using in his new Laptop...
The CS4 Master Collection is my full program that I bought when I was in College course and now I use for my own works...
Both came in their own serial numbers and discs ... I install both completely to each computer but at the end on the registration asked for this "Validation code" and the message says that I can't do it on-line nor by mail; so to call to this phone 1-800-833-6687 and in there have the message to come to the "support " Adobe website and do all this going around.
Now I saw previously that page you send me... I really don't understand it ... I got CS2 installed but I just need the validation code to get rid of that 30 days message...
Why I have to uninstall it??? Could you explain me please..

  • IPhoto slow when looking through photos

    Hello!
So my issue is simple, and I hope this is something that can be easly fixed. I am reletivly new to Mac so sorry about the stupidity.
I have a Ivy Bridge based i5 at 1.8 GHz Macbook Air with 4GB 1600 MHz RAM.
My issue is when I try to look at photos, It can take almost a whole minute before it changes from one photo to the next, but going back it's fine like it was already buffered or something...
    Thanks in advance,
    Light

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Imovie 09 insists on looking through photo library at start up

When I start imovie09 it wants to look through the photo library to find all the movies. imovie08 gave you a choice about whether you wanted it to do that - before it started doing it. Looking for movies there is of no value to me because I do not want to use them in projects. More importantly, the library is large and most of it is off line - so I get lots of "Connection failed" messages that I have to "OK" through.
So, my question is: Is there a way to start imovie 09 so that it does not insist on looking through the photo library?
    Thanks

Is there a way to start imovie 09 so that it does not insist on looking through the photo library?
    AFAIK, no.

  • IPhoto 4 doesn't scroll through photos in Leopard when viewing lg thumbnail

I upgraded to Leopard, and everything seems mostly fine. Few small glitches. I repaired permissions and am keeping watch. But one thing hasn't resolved: when I open my copy of iPhoto 4, I can see all my pictures, but the scroll bar doesn't work if I have the photo enlarged to the biggest size. In other words, if I set a small thumbnail size so multiple thumbnails are displayed in the pane, I can scroll with the mouse wheel or the scroll bar. But if I enlarge the thumbnail so there is just one picture displayed it no longer scrolls. No wheel action, and clicking on the scroll bar doesn't work either. I can grab the blue lozenge and scroll, but that's very clumsy, so I've been shrinking, scrolling, enlarging. Does anyone else have this problem?

Arrow keys do not work, either. I tried that.
I don't know about what Apple intended, but scrolling used to work with fully enlarged thumbnails in Tiger, and that seemed fine. I don't expect they took out the scrolling function as a deliberate "improvement" for the Leopard support of iPhoto - I'm guessing it was just something overlooked in the scroll bar implementation in iPhoto. But it seems that other people are having the same problem and that there isn't any fix for the problem without upgrading, and I don't see enough increase of functionality in iPhoto to pay for an upgrade. There are other cheaper (free) software products that provide the same functionality.

  • IPhoto shuts down while uploading a photo

I recently brought my MacBook into the Apple Store and had someone from the Genius Bar do a massive overhaul software update on my computer.  The reason was because whenever I tried accessing my iPhoto it would shut down.  Now I can pull up my iPhoto, but if I try to email or upload a photo on my facebook, it will shuts down.  I saw the guy delete a certain file in my application folder.  Any suggestions?

perhaps the users in the iPhoto forum may be able to better assist you in a more timely manner: https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto.  good luck

  • Desk top locked up while using I photo, can't get mouse to do anything more them move. Just on off button works. Any ideas?

Anyone have any ideas on how to unlock the desk top?

Whoah boy, lots of things here and I have to make supper...
I'll choose a few at a time. "RAM drives"
RAM drives? Do you mean hard drives? Do you mean RAM chips?
If hard drives, did you put them back in the same order? Multiple hard drives in one machine often need to be jumpered correctly when you move them about.
If chips... It's too difficult at this stage to tell if it is hardware or software. If hardware it could be chips, and that error at the end had a vague chip ring to it. One way to test for chips if you have extra chips is to pull all but the minimum required to boot and see if it boots.
You mention a backup drive. This wouldn't happen to have a clone of the operating system on it would it?
    4 drives... All internal?
From all you've said it could be hardware or software. Blue screen could be software but failing hardware can corrupt a drive, messing up the software.
Boot discs. It sounds like you have no boot discs (CD. DVD) for this computer, right?
What computer are you using right now?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
btw A space between the full stop and the next sentence makes it easier to read.

  • My Macbook Pro 2014 ran out of battery while mid-slideshow. Now the slideshow won't skip through photos and I can't figure out why? Macbook Pro 2014 13-inch Intel i5 8GB RAM 128GB flash, iPhoto library is on external HDD

    Macbook Pro 2014
    13-inch
    Intel i5
    8GB RAM
    128GB flash SSD,
    Integrated Graphics
iPhoto library is on external HDD
I was in a slideshow, with around 1,911 photos in it. About halfway through, my Macbook ran out of battery. Now when I restarted and charged the Macbook and reopened iPhoto, the slideshow won't advance through photos, and I can't figure out any reason why it would do this.
I thought it may be corrupted, so I deleted and reinstalled iPhoto library, iPhoto itself, and disconnected and reconnected my external HDD.
This didn't work, the photos still won't advance.
I don't know any reason why this would be happening, and there is ample space on my internal drive.
I'm happy to provide more information if needed!
    Many Thanks,
    James

Make a few tests, James, to narrow down the problem and find out, if the slideshow is corrupted, your iPhoto Library, or settings in your account.
To test, if only your slideshow has a problem, create a new slideshow, just for testing. Just use "File > New Slideshow" and add a few photos. Does this slideshow play correctly?
If the test slideshow does not play either, create a new iPhoto Library. Use the File menu in iPhoto: File > Switch to library > Create New. Import a few photos and create a slideshow.  Does it play?
If even a new library does not solve the problem, test in a different user account (see this document:  Isolating an issue by using another user account - Apple Support):
This process involves creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.
Create a new standard or admin user account in Users & Groups preferences.
Use these instructions for OS X Mavericks.
See these instructions for OS X Mountain Lion.
See this video, or these instructions for OS X Lion.
Optional: If you have any specific files you wish to test with, copy (don't move) those items to the /Users/Shared folder in the Finder.
Log out of your current user account by choosing Log Out from the Apple () menu.
Log in with the new account you created.
Attempt to reproduce the issue you were seeing in your regular user account.
After you have completed testing, log out of the test account by choosing Log Out from the Apple () menu.
Log in as your regular account.
After you have completed all testing with the test user account, you may want to delete it. You can delete an account in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences.
Note: Prior to deleting a test account, make sure you are completely done with it. If you have files in the Guest User you wish to keep, you should copy them to the /Users/Shared folder .
If you should find, that slideshows only play in a new user account, post back.

  • Cant import iPhoto library. Locks up while "upgrading Library"

I have a new macbook air running OS X Mavericks. I tried to just copy the iphoto library from old mac to the pics library of new mac. I photo locks up while "upgrading library"
Tried to use migration assistant and it says I must first upgrade the OS of the old mac. My old mac cannot upgrade to mavericks, it is too old.
    Suggestions?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • HT3159 When I double click on IPhoto to open and look at my photos the APP store trys to open it. I never had this issue before. Why now?

The App Store trys to open it but it times out and won't connect.

Try dragging a photo to the desk top, highlight it and press COMMAND I this will open the info window, in the drop down menu "open with" select either preview, or other, then select iPhoto. Preview is the default.
    Then click "Change All"

  • Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported.  Would you like to import it.  no matter what I do, iphoto puts the pic in recovered files.  How do I fix this?

Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me,  A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported.  Would you like to import it.  If I import it, a message comes up Unreadable file, the following file could not be imported. them it tells me where the file is and it cannot be opened.  If I do not import, then it says,The photo has been placed in the folder /Users/patrick*******/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_4.  It will just keep adding to recvovered photos.  This drives me crazy!!!!!!!  How do I fix this?

I had this problem some months ago and the following solution from Terrence Delvin put things right:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
However, since connecting a memory stick to my computer, I now have the same problem again.  This time there is no folder called 'Import' or 'Importing' so what should I do?

  • Iphoto locks up and refuses to finish photo import from iphone 4 when there is a video present.

Iphoto locks up when attempting to import photos from iPhone 4 if there is a video file in the phone.  Previously, iPhoto would import videos from a camera.  What's the problem here?

I have the same problem as the upload from the Iphone takes a long time and the 'importing 30 photos' seems to be stuck.  Anyone have any idea what to do?

  • I am trying to transfer my photos from old mac to new mac.  I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!  What happened?

And how do I turn off FACES?

I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!
According to you youo did not do what I instructed - you said you imported the old library into th enew library which can easily take a 2000 photo library and turn it into 12,000 including two ro three versions of each photo pus all the face thumbnails
The correct procedure has NO importing involved
drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac
    That is it
