Iphoto loop

Hello,
I need some help with Iphoto 5.0.4. Apparently, iphoto is stuck in a loop trying to create a slideshow or movie with imovie. When I open iphoto it immediately stops responding (no thumbnails or anything). I opened the console to see what was happening and this is what I see (condensed version, gives the idea of what is going on):

That's great! do you know the drill on creating a new library? If not...
Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library<---This is the part where you come in<br>Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "open" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
Good luck!

  • HT5037 Indefinite loop trying to open iPhoto - need to prepare library with installer. Follow instructions and it says it is prepared but still won't open and says it needs to be prepared.

I open iPhoto and receive a message saying 'To open your library with this version of iPhoto it must first be prepared.' Then the Learn More or Quit option. I click Learn More and am taken to a site to download the installer. I follow the instructions and launch the installer. It says 'Your library can now be updated by the current version of iPhoto. • IPhoto Database Update loop

After installing iLife11 my Database is in an update loop.
If I start iPhoto it tells me that I have to update my database in order to work with iPhoto.
It takes serveral minutes to updaten. After the update iPhoto freezes with the Apple loding circle.
If I choose faces or other it shows my the resules.
While importing new pic from my HDD iPhoto freezes.
After restart iPhoto wants to update the database again.
Even if I just work with iPhoto (without import) and do a restart of iPhoto it comes again with the Update of the Database.
Does somebody know how to solve the issue?

Welcome to Apple Discussions. This appears to be a problem for many users and there is a very detailed discussion on this issue here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2620921&tstart=0
I had the same issue and after several hours of trial and error I found that several "Keepsake" items in my iPhoto library were not supported in iPhoto '11.
If you have any keepsake items in your left pane, I suggest you open the original database in iPhoto '09 (you did do a full backup before you tried to upgrade didn't you?), delete and Keepsake items, and then restart iPhoto '11. The database should convert properly at that point.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT5037 iPhoto eternal loop.

When I open iPhoto, it says my Library needs to be prepared using iPhoto Library Upgrader. When I then go into iPhoto Library Upgrader, it says my photos have been edited using a newer version of iPhoto, and that I need to quit iPhoto Library Upgrader and use iPhoto. I can't get into access any of my photos - this is so frustrating!!! When the error messages come up, the ONLY option I have is to quit.
Can someone please explain to me how to get around this eternal loop I seem to be stuck in?

Katherine, have you currently upgraded iPhoto to a newer version? Or restored an older iPhoto Library?
We need to know more, to be able to help:
What exactly happened or did you do, before you could no longer open your iPhoto library?
How has your iPhoto library been created? By what version of iPhoto?
And what is your current version of the iPhoto application?
The only thingI can tell from your post is that you have a mismatch between the versions of iPhoto and of your library. That can have several reasons - a recent update of iPhoto, or duplicate iPhoto applications, duplicate iPhoto libraries.

  • Iphoto 11 stuck in loop after upgrade

Have recently upgraded to iPhoto 11 through the app store from the version that came with my MacBook Pro (v8 or 9).  iPhoto 11 is getting stuck in a loop with the gray screen and rotating busy icon in the middle.  I have tried a number of online advice actions but all seem to not work (permissions, DIV X, deleting some of the files in the package, etc).
Surly there must be an official apple fix for this.

iPhoto 11 is an application that runs on the Mac. You posted your questioning the iPhoto for iOS forum. Perhaps if you posted your question in the life > iPhoto forum you'll get more responses.

  • IPhoto slideshow 1. random and 2. loop

    Hello,
I am organizing a slideshow with iPhoto 6 for my father-in-law's funeral tomorrow and have two questions:
    1. Can you play the photos in random order (and how)?
    2. Can you make the slideshow play as a continuous loop (and how), rather than repeatedly restarting the slideshow?
    Thanks,
    Julius

    Julius:
You can play a slideshow with the slides in random order but you have to do it from an album and not a slideshow. Select the albums with your photos in it and click on the Play button. In the Setting box that comes up will be the options to shuffle the slides and one to loop. You can select the music to use and then save the settings. When you next select the album and Option-Click on the play button the slideshow will start without the setting window and play with the settings you saved. This is only for playing on your Mac. If you create a slideshow for a DVD the order is what you have when you create it.
I've created a couple for memorial services and built the slideshow entirely in iDVD. There's no Ken Burns effect but the resulting image quality is better and titles/subtitles can be added to selected slides is desired.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I am using Iphoto 6 to create a slide show but my music stops when it supposed to loop?

    As a Test:

Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto Library Upgrader loop of frustration!!!

So I want to start by saying I've read numerous threads on here & followed any sort of directions I've found in other discussions that seemed relevant to my problem. So far nobody seems to be having the exact same issue I am. All of this started happening after upgrading to Yosemite.
When I click the icon to open iPhoto (version 9.6) I get a message saying "To open you library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." with the buttons "Learn more" and "Quit". When I click "Learn more" it takes me to the support page for 'iPhoto '11 or later: About the Library Upgrader' where I can download the upgrader (version 1.1).
Following the instructions on the page mentioned above I downloaded the upgrader & installed it. I went into my Utilities folder to locate the installer & run it. This brings up a window saying "This tool prepares libraries from iphoto7 and earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto. Click continue to upgrade the library in the following location: /Users/**my username, censored for privacy**/Pictures/iPhoto." So I click continue and get a window saying "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto." and a button to "Quit". Being the only option available I hit "Quit" and a window pops up saying "Your library can now be upgraded by the current version of iPhoto. Do you want to launch iPhoto?" and buttons for "Quit" and "Launch iPhoto". I click "Launch iPhoto" and get a window saying the original message "To open you library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple."
It's a loop, I'm stuck and have exhausted all the options I've found online trying to fix similar issues.
Please help! This is super frustrating & driving me crazy! Makes me regret upgrading to Yosemite :/

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Looping an iphoto slideshow on ipad 1

I have created a slideshow on iphoto and have it on loop so we don't have to keep pressing play, but when it is synched with my ipad 1, it stops and we have to continue to press play.  Is there any way to get this iphoto slideshow, which was creating on my imac to loop on the ipad?

PS. I can now get both slide-show and music on the DVD but can't play them simulteneously.
Thanks to anyone who can advise..

  • When I start iPhoto it goes into a loop ?

iPhoto disappeared suddenly !  I then re-installed it.  When I click on iPhoto it goes into an eternal loop.  I also founf out that iPhoto Library suddenly conatins 32000 photos with a size of 26.9 Gb ?

First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Iphoto 9.3 update installation loop on step5 99%.

Do you have a solution please?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    If that fails:
Restore from your back up, repair the Library and try again

  • Why does the iPhoto upgrade tool go into an endless loop

Iphot on the imac requests the installation of an upgrade tool to use Iphoto on this Imac. downloaded the tool did the install and I keep getting sent to the web site to download the tool again. on the site it asks was this helpful, well Nah ah !! its damned frustrating. what are we supposed to do when the "upgrades" don't work. How do I get into Iphoto ???? thanks.

I agree with you.  Also the install location isn't that intuitive since we normally look in the Applications folder for installed applications.

  • IPhoto reinstall loop..

Day before yesterday, I got caught up in the Thunderbolt Update 1.2 problem. It seems we're not quite through that yet... I restored by reinstalling OS X 10.7.4 Combo Updater. Now iPhoto won't come up. I've tried deep-sixing the application and re-installing from the iLife 2011 CD/DVD. It seems to go out and grab 9.3 which I'm sure wasn't on the original media. When I try to launch iPhoto it says, "In order to open iPhoto.app, you need to update to the latest version. Please run Software Update to install it now." When I click on Software Update and run it, it seems the computer thinks everything is current. So it doesn't appear that there's a ready-solution to this. I have backed up my iPhoto library...now, how to get the application working again...?

Sounds like a damage/corrupted library.  So make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
