IPhoto migration.  version issue

Have migrated my data from another iMac to new iMac..  When I open iPhoto on the new Mac I get a message that my photos are in a newer version of iPhoto and I need to open a new library or quit.  Quit is only option.  Upgraded s'ware and no change?  IPhoto version on old mac is 5.3.2

Then you need to download this
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1523
and run it before opening the Library.

  • Issues with new install of iPhoto 11 - Version 9.3 (650.39)

    I installed the latest upgrade of iPhoto 11 - Version 9.3 (650.39).
The install took an incredibly long period of time, where it was hung up when it reached 99% of the install.
About 20 minutes later, it finally finnished.
Since then every time I open an image and I try to edit the image in full screen view, it crashes.
Also when I just try to view an image in full screen mode it crashes.
There are also many other strange things which are happening.  During the startup of iPhoto, there is a screen which pops up for a short period of time indicating that it is processing something, then it quits.  The thumbnails display and the menu section of the screen remains blank for a long period of time before it start to populate it with the proper information.
Does anyone know how to get these fixed?
Is the only solution to try to go back to an earlier version, which is working?
    I need help!

Backup your lbrary and depress the option and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild the library

  • IPhoto '11 (version 9.4) Is Not Working With "My Photo Stream"

    OS X 10.8.2
    iPhoto '11 version 9.4 (701.64)
iOS 6 on iPhone 4 and third generation 64 GB WiFi iPad
All iCloud services I require are enabled on all three devices - most important for this issue being Photo Stream on my MBP (and, of course, my iPhone and iPad).
So, I am out of ideas and things to try here. I just want the photos in "My Photo Stream" to show up in the latest and greatest version of iPhoto. So far I have:
Disabled and re-enabled Photo Stream via iCloud preferences panel and in iPhoto itself using every possible combination of disable and enable between the two and ordering those disables and enables in every possible way with many MBP restarts.
Reset Photo Stream via iCloud.com followed by the futility of repeating Step 1.
Logged out of iCloud on my MBP, restarted, signed back into iCloud, restarted, launched iPhoto. Repeated Steps 1 and 2.
Performed every repair and rebuild option for my iPhoto library's permissions, thumbnails and database. Repeated Steps 1 and 2.
Went so far as to download and apply the 9.4 update manually hoping that maybe a reinstall of the update would correct something that might have gone wrong during some Software Update process when 9.4 was first made available. Repeated Steps 1, 2 and 4.
In the end, when I launch iPhoto and go to Photo Stream and open "My Photo Stream", sometimes I see it downloading a given number of photos and then it ends up saying "No photos". So what was downloaded? Where did those photos go? Sometimes when I launch iPhoto and go to "My Photo Stream" nothing happens at all and it just says "No Photos". And another strange thing is that "My Photo Stream" in iPhoto on my MBP indicates that it was updated March 5, 2012 and I can think of nothing special that happened on that date. I don't get it.
Why does my Photo Stream work perfrectly between my iPhone and iPad? What is the problem with iPhoto on my MBP? Am I the only one dealing with this specific issue?
I did not buy iPhoto from the App Store. I bought it outside of the App Store and have kept it updated. Is that a problem? If so, why? I do not see what reason Apple would have to make me pay for the same product twice.
I have not tried creating a shared stream yet. I see no reason to try that if I cannot get my own photo stream to work in iPhoto on my MBP.
Is there anything I am missing here. I have read the Photo Stream FAQ and myriad other support documents and community threads. I am a pretty savvy Apple guy with years of experience behind me and pretty much know what I am doing. But, I am human and maybe I'm missing somehting here. So, any help would most certainly be appreciated.

I guess I will wrap this up. I have abandoned iPhoto and viewing my Photo Streams using it and moved to Adobe products (Bridge + PS). So that's that.

  • Q:-  Migrating version 6 Web Analysis reports directly to version 11  ??

Trying to migrate version 6 Web Analysis reports directly to version 11.1.1.2 without first migrating to version 9, because of some time constraints.
Overall it works fine, except for some issue with PV (Personal Variables) in those reports.
The PVs are present in the version 6 xml export file, but somehow not being picked up in version 11.1.1.2 Web Analysis import.
Has anyone tried to migrate version 6 Web Analysis reports to version 11.1.1.2 and faced this kind of issue?
I am wondering if there is any change in the xml tags because of which the migration from 6 to 11 is not working.
Anyone has any thoughts or ideas to quickly migrate web Analysis reports from 6 to 11. There are hundreds of reports that need to be migrated.

    Hi,
    Welcome to Forums...!
I think we need to change the database connection details in the Web analysis.
goto file --> Edit --> browse the database connection then change the server name in the connection details.
may be this will help to resolve your issue.
    Thanks,

  • IPhoto '11 version 9.0.1 didn't fix"iphoto is unable to open this library"

I upgraded iPhoto to version 9.0.1 but I still have the same issue : iPhoto '11 is unable to open and update my photos library. After launching iPhoto, it tried to update the library but I got the message "iphoto is unable to open this library". I tried all the workaround mentioned by the members of this forum without success. I even rebuild my library with the maintenance mode of iPhoto '09 before trying again to update it with iPhoto '11.
What should I do? Am I the only one in this case with version 9.0.1 ?
I need to access back to my photos and I'm surprised Apple is yet unable to propose a workaround for bypassing this library updating issue. By the way, it is strange that for being able to update a defective library you need to run the rebuilding options, but for being able to rebuild the library with iPhoto '11, you need first to update it. We are in a dead end!

You are not alone! I have the exact same problem, and 9.0.1 didn't help me either.
iPhoto 9.0 originally gave me this error. I removed it and re-installed iPhoto 8, which opens gives errors about the library needing repair. After running some of the rebuilding options I got the library open but all items from 2010 are missing.
I then reinstalled iPhoto 9.0.1 and tried to open an older backup of my iPhoto library that works fine with iPhoto 8. That won't open either, with the same error message- "iPhoto is unable to open this library." So basically I can't use iPhoto 9.0.1 at all, and with my most current library trashed I will have to go back to my nearly year-old backup library (I know, my bad) and import all newer photos, which I fortunately have stored elsewhere, again.
Or more likely, I will keep using my "backup" library on my PC with Picasa until I can try another iPhoto update that will hopefully restore my damaged library (wishful thinking, I suspect!)

My iPhoto Library (version 8.1.2) is 280GB (greater than 50% of my 500GB total storage memory on my iMac.  It was too large for me to drag it to a new hard drive so the Apple geniuses did it for me.  However they did not delete the Library from my iMac (that's my responsibility).  I dragged it to Trash and when it started to move I clicked over to the new hard drive to confirm it had indeed been copied.  I became nervous when I didn't see among the few files on this otherwise empty new hard drive anything that resembled a 280GB Library so I cancelled the migration to trash.
How can I be sure that my iphoto has been copied and that all my "metadata" survived in tact?

    the new backup drive
I thought the new drive would be your data drive to host the iPhoto library. Do you also use it for TimeMachine backups?
I am unable to search either in email as well as Finder.  I AM able to search within iPhoto though, thankfully
Spotlight may still be busy rebuildig its index.
You could try to rebuild the Spotlight Index, if you do see no progress:

I hope, other frequent posters will drop in. I have not used iPhoto 8.x in long time.

What format are they? Tiif? Jpeg? You can compress them with a lot of apps - including Preivew and just about any graphics editor out there. I'm not sure that 45mb would crash iPhoto thogh, are yo sure that's the cause? I know that some folks have mentioned pixel dimensions causing issues, as can color profiles.

No you won't necessarily lose your photos when upgrading but it's very very unwise not to back up first. Backing up is like using a seat belt in a car. You can drive without one for years and have no issues, but if you do have a problem the outcome will be a lot worse. So, too, with back ups. And upgrading is one of those times when the risks of a problem are higher.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • IPhoto'9 loading issues

    Hello all
I'm quite exhausted searching net but not able to resolve my issue.
I had my iPhoto'9 - version 8.1.1 lib on external drive:
I bought a ReadyNAS duo and used "AFP" exported partition to copy all of iPhoto library onto it. Then I selected iPhoto to point my library to this AFP network share. I've about 15K photos in library.
    Issues:
    1) iPhoto takes huge amount of time to load. About 5-10 minutes. When it comes up "small photo images in right window" (I think called thumb-nails) are still not shown. clicking on this thumbnail to display full screen, doesn't display photo either.
    2) Reading suggestions in forum, I opened iPhoto with option, command and selected to rebuild all caches. It took 20 hours but even after that no luck.
    3) Now I opened iPhoto with option, command and selected other options, including "verify/rebuild library permissions". It reports back that issue in file permission.. I click "ok" to fix it. iPhoto comes back saying can't fix it. I don't know which file and why it can't fix it.
    4) When I use frontrow to open iPhoto, still takes time to load & transition but I can see the photos. Unfortunately this is not enough since I can't add more photos to library or create a slide show since iPhoto as standalone app doesn't work.
I will really appreciate your help. I've been using mac-mini as my media server since past 6 years. Now I'm completely stuck.
Please note that I'm using AFP not SMB since I read SMB could be an issue. Also my ReadyNAS is not slow as Video streaming, iTunes etc are all working fine.
    Thanks a lot

Most of the photos did disapear from iphoto and i can not open any jpeg file even from an extern SD card ...Wwith jpeg files..What hapens? The message is like file can not be found. Is there any bug in the apple iphoto migration software that i had to use ? Even the original hiden iphoto file bugs when i want to open it...helpppp

What version of iPhoto are you running with Mavericks on the new MBP.  It should be 9.5.1.  The Migration assistant sometimes has problems with iPhoto Libraries.  Connect the two Macs together and manually copy the library the then old MBP to the Pictures folder of the new MPB.  First, move any existing libraries out of the Pictures folder to the Desktop before copying.
Lauch iPhoto and check the library to see if it's working correctly and you can see your photos.  If not shut down iPhoto and Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • IPhoto '09 version 8.1.2. can two macs have the same library?

I am running iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 and have an iMac and a MacAir. How do I have one photo library, say on the iMac, that is then replicated onto the MacAir?

There are two ways to "sync" the two libraries.
#1 - with the two Macs connected download and use  SyncPhotos
    Here's how it works:
it compares the databases and/or album.xml files of Libraries A and B.
the files in A that are not in B are imported into B by copying the original files from A into B's Import folder.
it then does the same for B.
    metadata is not copied.
It can be used to just copy from A to B and not sync both ways if desired. It will work with 2 libraries that are different versions, i.e. between an iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09 library.  This method does not require you to make the decision of which photos to sync.
NOTE:  this method does not sync keywords, titles, ranking or descriptions.
#2 -  download and use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to copy the Events in Library A that are not in LIbrary B to Library B.  Then select those Events in Library B that are not in A and copy to A.
This method requires you to make the determination which photos (Events) to copy between libraries.  It does copy all metadata, keywords, titles, etc. as well as Faces and Places.

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.
    “Welcome to Aperture 3.2
Your library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of Aperture. Once upgraded, you will not be able to use this library with previous versions of Aperture.
Upgrading a library from previous versions of Aperture 3 generally takes a few minutes or less, though larger libraries will take longer. After that, Aperture 3.2 will upgrade your library's thumbnails, but you can use the application during that time.
Tip: To open a different library, quit Aperture and hold the Option key down while starting Aperture
    Current Library Location:
    Jadzia (home)   -----Pictures------Aperture Library
                                                      QUIT             UPGRADE”
I have heard horror stories  about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma.  I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?

Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop.  Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file.  For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

If you have a mid/late 2007 MBP you can install the latest OSX that is available, on your MBP.  Mavericks (10.9) has been replaced by Yosemite (10.10) and is no longer available in the App store.

I have Iphoto '09, version 8.1.2 (424). I am having an identical problem.  All my pictures are imported into Iphoto when I downloaded them from my camera.  Until recently, I thought that the pictures were actually saved in the library.  Since I need to crop my pictures for the web, and Iphoto doesn't do that, I purchased Photoshop Elements to do that.  To my surprise, when I try to get a picture from Iphoto to Photoshop, it can't be done. That was when I realized, after wasting a lot of time, that the photos are not in the Iphoto library.
I started naming the pictures on Iphoto so I had a recognizable file name to open on Photoshop. Couldn't find it.  I looked in the Backup folder and the Transfer software folder (I have a Nikon camera), and the names I entered in the Iphoto display, could not be found.
When I am trying to upload a photo to the web, I get the Finder folder showing  with an active folder called "Photos" under "Media", which only displays Iphoto and PhotoBooth.  This is a folder name that I cannot find in my HD anywhere when I look for it.  If I edit a picture with Photoshop, I am not going to save it back to Iphoto (not sure whether it will work properly).  How do I get my folder of edited photos to show when I want to upload a picture to the web?
Where (the name of the folder) do I find the pictures I see displayed on the Iphoto library, including any name changes, keywords added, and so on?
