IPhoto missing events

I am using OS X Lion and the latest version of iPhoto.  Last night I imported about 100 images and created an event.  I then synched my iPhone and all the images were on the phone. All was well. Today I again importeed a couple of images and I noticed that after closed iPhoto and then opened to import some more images the two I recently imported were gone. I also noticed that all the images I imported last night were missing as well.
Appreciate it if someone can tell me what the heck is going on.  I did a library rebuild, but it did not bring my images back.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Has anyone found the solution to the missing iPhoto library event on iMovie'11?

Hi, I'm having problem of finding my iPhoto movies/events in iMovie'11.  I recall seeing others had the same problem.  Wondered if this matter is solved yet, perhaps I can use the solution

  • IPhoto missing photos - do I rebuild or restore or ?

I have read & utilized many of the threads here but haven't found one that's exactly like my situation.  Before I do anything that could be irreversible, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I opened iPhoto & the majority of my photos are missing.  I had been working on iPhoto just a short time earlier & everything was fine.  I had not received any error messages but had just restarted my computer.
I have an iMac (2 GHz Intel core 2 duo), use OSx Leopard 10.5.8 and iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.5).
Due to lack of space, in March I relocated my iPhoto library to a second EHD (Seagate) -- my first EHD (MyBook) backs up via Time Machine both my internal HD and the new EHD with iPhoto on it.
When I open iPhoto, it shows all the slideshows/albums but most (not all) are empty.  Of the now only 30 events showing, all are populated.  It seems all the photos from mid 2008 to now are missing.  I checked the trash - it was empty.  When I open iPhoto, the 2000 photos are only 6.5GB but my iPhoto Library on the EHD shows 155GB.
I've tried restarting the computer.  I've tried ejecting the EHD, deleting the iPhoto plist, reconnecting the EHD, opening iPhoto while holding option (chose "open library").  Still only 2K photos.
I've created enough space so I can try rebuilding or restoring the library.  Is that the right step now?  Obviously, I'd love to retain the meta-data (is that the correct term for albums, slideshows, etc?) and am confused at which approach is best.
I've used this forum to help me in the past & am hopeful you guys can help me now.

Start with Rebuilding. If that doesn't fix it then restore.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Birds eye view of photos - like iPhoto's 'Events' view

I switched from iPhoto to Lightroom. I love Lightroom. That said, I really miss iPhoto's 'Events' view. I'd love to see a feature in Lightroom that matched it's ability to quickly survey all of your photos.
'Events' view shows one image for each event (e.g. day or shoot; you can choose which image this is). When you mouse over an event photo it acts like a little flipbook - moving your cursor from left to right flips through all the images in the event in order. When you grab the scroll bar the date will show while your scrolling to make it easy to know when to stop.
I'm not suggesting that Lightroom copy this exactly (though that wouldn't be bad) but that there be some sort of way of looking at my whole collection of photographs at once without having to see every photo.
The closest thing in Lightroom is accomplished by treating stacks like iPhoto events. Doing this I can open the Photos folder to show my entire library and choose to collapse all stacks. Mind you, that's only a workaround. I'd love to see a new way of viewing the Library.

Cloning the JPanel seems the wrong approach to me. If I were you I would separate the model (the data you represent in your UI) from the view (the UI components you use to display the data). So, if you want to duplicate your JPanel (view) you would just create a new one from your existing data model. With that approach, your problem becomes more or less trivial.
Google for MVC, to get you started on different ways of structuring your UI application.Good advice, better stated than in my feeble attempts in these cross-posts:

  • Missing events

I apparently deleted something by accident when I was trying to clean up my internal HD before installing an new external HD. Many of my events are now mising (everything after 2007). However, all the photos seem to be present in the Photos folder.
However, I discovered that the Photos folder in the Pictures folder contains no photos. All my photos are in a Photos folder in another folder that I keep on my descktop where I put stuff I'm working on and want to get at easily.
I don't remember moving the Photos folder there, but it was there before the events went away. And iPhoto worked fine like that.
I do have a Time Machine back up, and a copy of iPhoto Manager.
What I want to do is 1) restore my events, 2) move my iPhoto photo files to the new external HD, 3) fix the Photo folder location problem ( 2 folder with this name) on the internal drive (if it is a problem) and then remove duplicate photos.

If the photos are in the Photos sections they will be in an event.  First select one of the photos in the Photos section, Control (right) cliick on it and select Show Event from the Contextual menu.
That will take you to the Event that the photo is in.
While in the Events mode go to the View menu and set the options as shown in the screenshot below:
Then check for the missing events according to date.

  • ICloud on the web is missing events on iCal, iPhone and iPad

I am using iCloud to sync 3 calendars between my Mac, iPhone and iPad. Bizarrely, all of the events are perfect in iCal on my Mac as well as on the iPad and iPhone. However, when using iCloud's Calendar app on the web it is a patchwork of random events missing. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.
Also, with iCal running on the Mac, my Calendar app of choice, Fantastical, displays all of the events perfectly. Once I quit iCal, I get the same random missing events as the web app. Yet, Calendar, Fantastical and any other calendar apps on both my iPhone and iPad always display all the events properly.
This has been driving me crazy. I tried exporting all of my calendars locally, deleting everything on iCloud, creating new calendars and merging in the old data. I got the same end result. I also tried importing the old calendars as completely new ones (not merged) and got the same missing events.
If anyone has any suggestions of something I may have missed, I would be eternally grateful. I can't afford to lose any of my calendar data.

  • IPhoto 11 Event Date Question

I have a question about iPhoto 11 events.  My camera was set to the wrong date for part of an event.  I went in and did a batch change of the time and date of the affected photos.  However, the date range beneath the title of the event still has the old erroneous date, and the event gets sorted by this date range.  Is there a way to go in and change that date range under the title of the event?  I go to the event and click on info, and the event shows the correct date range for the pics, but it is not changing the date range under the title.  Thanks for any help in advance.

Thank you - I had the same problem and found your helpful answer.  However, this is actually a work around to a bug in iPhoto - it's not how the Apple Support pages say it works and common sense says that if you change all the dates in an event it should sort to the right place without being re-created.  Can you help me with one more thing - how do I bring this to Apple's attention so that they fix it in a future release?
    Thanks again for the help.

  • How does iphoto order events?

How does iphoto arrange events for display purposes? It isn't alphabetically by title, it isn't chronologically by event creation date. I am baffled. If I know how they are ordered, I can move photos among events easier by renaming the events so they show up next to each other, then I can drag and drop photos in adjacent events without scrolling. Once I am finished, I can simply rename the events back to the original names. That would be the easiest way I have found to move photos around among events. I just can't figure out the riddle of how the events are ordered.

By default events are sorted by the date of the oldest photo in the event
Probably the easiest way to move photos is to flag the photos you want together and create an event from flagged photos
But generally it is best to just leave events in date/time order and use albums for detailed organization - and/or keywords and smart albums

  • Compound clips showing as missing events

I started a project on Macpro tower, then copied that project with all it's events and media to a portable hard drive to work on it with my Macbook Pro.  I did not import anything into the event for this project while working on the Macbook, but I did create some compound clips.  After working on the Macbook, plugged the portable drive into my Macpro tower and copied the project back to the hard drive in the Mac Pro.  I performed the copy via drag and drop withinn Final Cut Pro X. I then began to work on the project.  I did not re-copy the events and clips back to the Mac Pro tower, because they are all there already.
Now, I find that when I eject the portable drive from the Mac Pro tower, the compound clips show up as a missing event, even though the clips within those compound clips are in the current project.  I've tried to re-link the media, but there doesn't seem to be a way to re-link the compound clip.  I could just trash the new project, but I've done some work on it that I don't want to lose.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Scott Odgers wrote:
now I know to re-import everything back even if nothing has really changed.
I am glad you got it working. But something did change. You created compound clips in the Event Library when you added them to your project on the MBPro. When you opened the project on your tower there were no compound clips in the event library without the portable drive connected. Once you copied the new events onto the tower event library FCP was happy and all you need to do is replace the old compounds in the timeline with the new ones.

  • How do I get video from my iPhone to iMovie? The videos download to iPhoto, but are not "available" in iMovie when I select iPhoto in event library.

How do I get video from my iPhone to iMovie? The videos download to iPhoto, but are not "available" in iMovie when I select iPhoto in event library.

I haven't launched iMovie in a while, and I've used iPhoto to import many videos from my iPhone's Camera Roll since the last time I launched and used iMovie.
iMovie prompted me to create/update the thumbnails for my iPhoto videos, along with indicating no iPhoto videos will be available with iMovie until this is completed.
Not sure how to do this manually, but this may be your problem.

    It does not work.
Faces will not show up correctly either, but that is  not so important.

How are you "sorting photos in events"?
Typically you use albums for organization - like sorting

  • IPhoto 11 events' dates are all messed up

Hi, my iPhoto 11 events' dates are all messed up.
I tried a solution that I found in the forum in which one should delete file com.apple.iPhoto but I don't have the said file.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Yes you do. In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
You can then find and delete the necessary preference file.
