Iphoto missing pictures!

I think I just lost all my pictures and don't know how to find it please help I have iPhoto Library on my desktop(I clicked and dragged it there) now when I open it all my pictures are gone! How do I get them back?

Why is the Library on your desktop?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • IPhoto 6 Missing Pictures and Bigger Library

Please help me if you can, I'm feeling down ...
While I was using iPhoto 5 I discovered there were many missing pictures. Thumbnails were there, but the full-sized images had disappeared. I tracked down most of the originals, and imported them into iPhoto 5 again. Everything seemed fine.
Now, when I upgraded to iPhoto 6, I rebuild my library to ensure everything would be where it belongs. I checked all the optional boxes, to be sure I would not lose those images again. Horrors! Out of 4,500 pictures in my library, approximately 450 full-size images are missing, even thought the thumbnails are still there. Is there an easy way to straighten out this mess, or do I have to track down each image on variouos back-up CDs and re-import them? Please tell me there is an easier way! I don't have that many "extra" hours.
On a related note, with iPhoto's new filing system, I have an excess of folders in my iPhoto library. There's the old folders by year-month-code, and new folders called Original & Modified. My images appear to be in both folders. Is it safe or wise to remove the old folders? Would that save any disk space?
Burned twice, hoping to avoid a third time ...

    Dear Old Toad-
Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it, but it appears my problem were not related to permissions.
The further I investigated, the more problems I found with my iPhoto library. The most significant was missing images with intact thumbnails. Others included duplicate images in different folders, and duplicate libraries.
Finally, in desperation, I decided to go back to square one.
First, I searched for all images that were less than 1kb, and created a 10-page list of missing pictures. (That is, the metadata was there, but the images were gone.) Then I chose the library with the most intact images, and exported all to a desktop folder. Then I created a new iPhoto library, and imported 6,500+ images as one roll. Now I'm figuring out how to organize them so I can find the "special moments." Once this is done, I'll search my old back-up CDs for my missing images, and import them to my library.
I imagine there is a better way, but I could not figure it out. If you, or anyone else, does know a better way, please let me and other readers know. This problem may be more common than we think.

  • Missing pictures in iPhoto feed

I went away on vacation and posted photos on a feed. When I came home and opened my iPhoto, the pictures in the feed are not there. I posted a photo as a test today and it went through to the feed ok. I tried restarting my computer, checking my settings, and connecting my phone. Still the group of photos while I was away are missing. Can anyone help with this issue. I am stumped!
    Thanks!

  • Unusual dashed box has replaced missing pictures in Iphoto after transfer...

Hello Mac community! I recently purchased a new macbook pro OS X (Mavericks version 10.9.2) and had the mac store transfer all of my iphotos etc. from my previous macbook pro to this new one. When opening iphoto on my new mac, the majority of my pictures in my iphoto library are missing, and a strange box of dashed lines has replaced them. What does this mean? Heres whats strange..Many of my pictures did indeed transfer properly to my new iphoto library but there are random events that are completly missing pictures ( being replaced by the dashed box) Why did these pictures not transfer properly to my new laptop? How can i recover these pictures? Thanks to anyone who is willing to help me! Im lost without my pictures!

really hard to say what was done wrong since we have no idea what was done
Do you still have the old computer? If so transfer the iPhoto library again properly - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
    That probably will fix things

  • When I want to buy a book, iphoto tells me I have a missing picture

Hi, can someone tell me what is going on?
I have finished my iPhoto album and would like to buy it. However, it instantly tells me that I am missing a picture (or maybe several I can't tell) and that I should place a picture in the frame (it even tells me where and which the page number). Although there is a picture already in the frame, I replace it again and again and again, but still, it keeps telling me I have a missing picture. Thanks in advance for your help.

Look for a page with a gray background which is a layout that uses a photo for the page's background.

  • I installed PS CS 6 and now all my iPhoto 11 pictures are missing.

I installed PS CS 6 last night and now all my iPhoto 11 pictures are missing from the library. I had 45,000 plus pictures and some of them were not backed up. I have tried holding the command and alt keys down while starting iPhoto several times but no luck. Does anyone have any idea how I can recover these photos?

Don't see how installing CS 6 could do this.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • When sharing photos get missing pictures

Hi All any help greatly appreciated. We are trying to share iphoto libraries, using home wifi, one macbook pro running Snow L one imac Running Lion both selected sharing and when then connect together imac comes up with missing pictures which require clearly individually, iphoto will not connect to each other as it continues in a loop. Force quit required to stop.
I have run the database rebuikld and all the items in that menu. Wits end very annoying
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks?
    both running iphoto 09
    Regards
    Cloudbasher

hiya Sorry about that, I should have said clearing individually. basically iphoto thinks that there are some missing pictures on the imac which then brings up a q&a box saying se4arch for or cancel each time you have to cancel there are 60 missing pictures it says, all with different filenames and on completion of clearing all 60, it waits a few seconds clears the spinning beach ball then repeats the process. this means to stop this you have no choice but to Force quit iphoto and thus disconnecting the sharing. When in iphoto (no sharing) there are no missing photos on either machine!
More ideas on a postcard please!
    Thanks

  • Missing pictures after migration to Photos

    Hi,
I'm really sad to see how quality in Apple services has decreased.
To begin with, my iPhoto was getting way too slow, so I was forced to split my library into many other libraries.
After Photos was released, I updated the system so I could migrate my libraries from iPhoto to the new Photos.
    The migration lasted a week!
When it was finally finished, I went on to check the number of pics.
There was a huge difference, with almost ten events missing pictures.
I did not even enable the iCloud feature.
And guess what? It's still slow.
How can I trust a system like this?
    I'm really disappointed.

Thanks for your reply but I'm still confused as to how I lost over 10Gigs of HD space after the migration. I understand the conversion is supposed to create more space, not less.  When I look in the pictures folder in Finder, I see 2 LIbrarys, iPhoto and Photos, each of them approx 15 Gbs. according to the Get Info menu.  I guess what I don't understand is if the iPhotos Library is not needed and is moved to an external drive why that wouldn't free that amount of space.
Also, if "optimization" is supposed to move "some" high res images to the cloud to make room on the HD, how is it that I find myself with only 1gb left on my HD? What is the criteria that triggers "optimization" and how much room can we expect it to shoot for? There seems to be a variety of answers on this subject, many of them sound like guesses. Apple's explanation is vague about how it works, so hopefully someone has the accurate, in depth scoop on this.

  • Move photos from iPhoto to Pictures.

I want to move photos from iPhoto to Pictures. I exported about 16000 yesterday and trashed the iPhoto ones (still in Trash) but when I looked at the contents of the iPhoto library, they still appeared there.  Why is this?
If I've modified a pic, then export to Pictures, does the edited version get exported too?  If not, then is it deleted when I trash the iPhoto version?
Also, it seems that the date when the photo was taken is lost when I export ( it takes on the date of export).  Is there a way to retain it?

Original is just that: a byte by bye copy of the file you imported.
Current: Is the current version of the shot - this is as it exists in the Library. Exporting this will miss metadata.
The quality of the photo you export will depend on the export setting you choose.
You know, if you take a couple of seconds, iPhoto is much more flexible and easier to use than the Finder. The orgaisation, searching and sorting options are much richer. The problem with the Finder is simple: it organise files. But it makes no distinctions at all between kinds of files, and so offers exactly the same opportunities for organising your Photos, your Music, your Word files. It takes no account of standard metadata - like Exif date and so on.
iPhoto supports Raw on most cameras, and can be used as a "front end" to Photshop.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
One small conceptual leap and it might make things easier: That Jpeg is not your Photo. Easiest way to elaborate on this: In my iTunes Library I have an mp3 called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles'. But that mp3 is not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. The wrote a song, recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in a container. That container is adapted to the special opportunities of music, and it's an mp3 file.
Similarly, that Jpeg is just a container for your Photo.
Iphoto is about Photos. Import them, forget about the jpegs. Tiffs whatever, because they're just containers. Organise your photos - leveraging the special opportunities offered by the fact that they are photos -  and then anything you need to do with or to them can be done either with or via iPhoto.
When you export, the export dialogue simply asks you a: what you want to export (that's the kind) and everything else is about the container you want to put the Photo in.
Because, unless you export Originals, you're not exporting the file you imported, you're exporting the Photo you imported, and putting it in a new box.

  • I need to minimize the space photos take on my MacBook Pro OSx 10.7.  They are in iPhoto, Aperture, Pictures/Photo Library, etc.  Are they taking space in all of these locations?

I need to minimize the space photos take on my MacBook Pro OSx 10.7.  They are in iPhoto, Aperture, Pictures/Photo Library, etc.  Are they taking space in all of these locations?

Are they taking space in all of these locations?
It depends on how you are using iPhoto and Aperture.
iPhoto and Aperture each create their own library files, and the default location for them is in /users/youruseraccount/Pictures
You can configure iPhoto and Aperture to use the same Library file, in which case your photos are only stored once.  But if you are using iPhoto & Aperture with independent library files, you may in fact be duplicating your storage.
The second consideration is whether or not you have configured iPhoto and/or Aperture as reference libraries, in which case their library files only reference photos you have stored in other places on your hard drive.  Setting them up as reference libraries does not duplicate the photos inside the library files.

  • Macbook Pro iPhoto or Pictures?

Just bought a MacBook Pro, could someone please explain to me the difference between the iphoto and pictures? Should I upload my pics to both? Or should I use one rather than the other? Thanks in advance!!

iPhoto is an app that supports importing photos from a digital camera and is also a photo storage and management app. The iPhoto Library is stored in the OS X Pictures folder. If you mamage photos the good old Windows way - by manually creating folders, etc, you can store all your manually created folders of photos in the Pictures folder. Pictures is basically just a folder.

  • Lost iPhoto and pictures

Tonight opened iPhoto and was prompted to select a library. I chose the library I thought was the correct one (I only have two choices iPhoto or Pictures) and now when iPhoto opens I have all the thumbnails but when I click to open them all I get is a black screen with an "!" mark.
I have tried all the usual procedures such as opening with "Option & Cmd" buttons held and rebuilt
all #1,2, & 6, or only "option" held to choose new library all to no avail.
Furthermore, when I went back to my Pictures folder all I have is a folder which went clicked on opens iPhoto. If I right-click on this folder then I can see all my other contents. I have tried to select-all in the this folder to drag onto the Pictures folder but all I get is a pop-up saying it can't be opened because "Pictures" may be damaged or incomplete
Using a cmd line from a previous problem I was able to get my "Pictures" folder back to what it should be (after several goes during which it kept reverting back).
Can anyone offer some advice on how I can open up my photos please?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
