Iphoto mountain lion iOS 6
I upgraded to Mountain Lion right when iOS6 came out. Since doing that, I have not been able to successfully import photos from my mobile devices with iOS6. I wouldn't work with my iPhone 4 nor my 5. Any thoughts? I have iPhoto 9.4.1
yep. i have my mac scheduled to shutdown everyday at 6am est.
the report for the issue is ridiculously long. I saw some references to an airport base station, which i don't have, but then again, i don't know how to read these things

I am using Mountain Lion iOS and trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my plasma TV using AppleTV and AirPlay mirroring. The video does just fine. However, there is no audio coming from the TV. After activating AirPlay I try to select Apple TV as the audio output in System Preferences and it highlights it but then immediately goes back to Internal Speakers and only has sound coming from the MacBook Pro..
What's going wrong ?????
AJAre you sure that WIFI network doesn't have an AppleTV on it? Just because you don't own it doesn't mean there isn't one on that network. The laptop or better said the OS cannot differentiate between an AppleTV that you own or not. If it sees one on the network, it will show you one as being available. The automatic reconnection is happening probably because the last time you streamed to an AppleTV, you didn't drop that connection before sleeping the computer or shutting down iTunes.

Regarding iCal on Mountain Lion (iOS 6.8.5): How can I find Holiday subscription? The O/L Help is not applicable.
Check under the File menu and there should be an option to add a subscription.

Home Sharing iTunes 11.1.5/Mountain Lion/iOS 7
Since updating to iTunes 11.1.5 I am unable to see my shared libraries from my iPhone or iPad running iOS7.
When using the previous version of iTunes, the iOS devices were able to see the shared libraries, but had great difficulty connecting consistently.
The iTunes I am trying to share from is running on 10.8.5.
I have another Mac, running Mavericks. That Mac can see and share the Mountain Lion's library. The iOS devices can see the music from the Mavericks iTunes (also 11.1.5), but can not play it - each song scrolls by as if it has zero length.
All the devices are on an AirPort Extreme network. The Mountain Lion Mac is wired and the rest are wireless. Enabling the wireless network and disabling the wired network on the Mountain Lion Mac doesn't change anything, nor does signing in/out of Apple ID, restarting Music App in iOS devices or many of the other tricks that have been described.
Disabling IPv6 doesn't help, and the AirPort Utility can't see the base station with IPv6 turned off. It's currently set to local-link only, as that solved othe IPv6 issues.This may be extremely obvious, but I missed it, despite reading http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2972:
There are two places to enable Home Sharing.
I had it enabled in Preferences > Sharing Preferences
However, I did not have it enabled in File > Home Sharing. As soon as I turned it on there, it asked for my Apple ID (which was already signed in to the iTunes Store and iMessage and numerous other locations) and then everything worked correctly.
I don't know if this is left over because I have been running iTunes since there was iTunes and have consistently carried over preferences as I upgrade machines. However, this is a ridiculously awful interface. I had presumed that I definitely had Home Sharing enabled, as I've clearly checked 'Share my library on my local network'.
Hope this helps someone else who has a similar issue. -
Why is iPhoto (Mountain Lion) importing RAW/NEF files as jpeg's?
I am manually importing via DVD's my archived iPhoto files from iPhoto '08, (7.1.5), Snow Leopard, to my new computer running Mountain Lion. iPhoto '11 (9.4.3). Most of my files are in RAW format (NEF) and was saved as such. I am noticing that as I import from the discs into the new iPhoto, it is importing some as jpeg's and I am loosing my RAW data. I am findiing very little being imported as RAW.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Is there somewhere in the settings that I am not finding, to correct this? I checked all that I know to look at and I did not find anywhere an option to change the format of the image in importing.
I, also, converted files from jpeg to.tiff and saved them as such, but I am not finding any .tiff files either.
Any info?

Old Toad, Now I know about this easy way to do this. I have, at least, 1T+20,000 more images, some of which I will import into my new 750 gig Macbook Pro, so this seems easy. (Already over 30,000 images. Can iPhoto hold so much???)

Unfortunatelly, I could not import directly the old Library to the new Library because of the below reason. (even tho there seems to be some difference of opinion on this between Terence and Larry)
I did the unthinkable. I worked out of the iPhoto Library.
What I did was this: my older Macbook Pro, had a 200 gig HDD, and could NOT handle all the photos I was putting into it (which I needed to do the work I want to do), so I first downloaded the images from my camera to iPhoto, then, I downloaded,as I went along, by year, to external HDD, and then I cut DVD's, by year, in pieces, via Toast, as my backup. (both, directly from the iPhoto Library), Then, I deleted many of the photos in each event, in each year, leaving only enough to remind me what is in that event.
(Then, when I needed images from that event, I could go back to the HDD to see and get the rest of the pix I needed to use).
I KNOW this is totally SACRELIGIOUS of Mac and the whole iPhoto Library set-up, but it didn't hurt the library functioning, (in the old mac), at all, and was the only way I knew to do it, as going thru iPhoto itself, didn't work out so well.
(That is why I didn't import directly my old library to the new Mac, not all the photos were there, and I thought it would be more confusing trying to add the missing photos to each event in the new iPhoto).
However, re-importing from the HDD to the new iPhoto, was a bit of a mess, as I got, (as 2 of you, above, said), mixed up info, as both "originals" as well as "events" downloaded, which gave me duplicates of some, and the dates are NOT necessarily in order, as was in the old iPhoto before. (but that I can reconcile, later, can't I?
Can I move events to other places in iPhoto?
However, going directly via the DVD's into the new iPhoto, gave me exact input and I got all the files as well as all the data. But, in some, very slow downloading, and very few, some date order mixup, but very few.
SO, this new iPhoto Library is a bit messed up with the duplicate images in about the first 3,000 or so images, but I assume I can fix this up.

In any event, it is now showing RAW and jpeg's as info in the metadata pane.

I upgraded to mountain lion and wiped my computer, I am pretty sure when I got my mac iphoto etc was already just on it! now I have had to pay to upgrade and dont have iphoto and have to buy it? Is there any way round this, I do not have an ilife disk!
Did your Mac come with DVDs? If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Applications Install DVD that came with your Mac, and install the iLife applications. Then, open > Software Update and install the latest version.
If your Mac didn't come with DVDs, you have to get the apps from the App Store, but as you say that the App Store wants that you pay for iPhoto, I understand that your Mac came with DVDs. All Macs purchased before July 2011 came with DVDs -
IPhoto/Mountain Lion Desktop Settings

This is kind of a simple but convoluted question: I'm running the latest Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro (I'd give more info but I don't think it's relevant in this case):
I'm running the latest iPhoto and I have several databases/libraries. IE: Portfolio, Random Desktops, Textures (for 3D work), etc....
I have several desktops and my "default" library is my photo backgrounds library.
When I'm working in another library, is it going to mess up using the "default" library desktops for the background? Basically, do I have to always revert/switch to "default" library before quitting iPhoto for it to keep pulling up random desktop images every few minutes, the way that I have it set? I haven't been able to tell if it works completely as it often has problems even setting the desktop via iPhoto on some of the desktops I have up for some reason. I'm not sure why, but it seems a little buggy.
Any tips/info would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.When I'm working in another library, is it going to mess up using the "default" library desktops for the background?
iPhoto - or whatever - will draw from the most recently opened Library for those desktop images.

Airplay problems continue under Mountain Lion, iOS 6, Pioneer VSX 1021 K
There's several threads about getting previously working VSX 1021 models to play Airplay music here, and elsewhere on the internet. For some, turning of IPv6 worked. For some updated iOS or iTunes worked. For some, turning off Multicast or the IGMP Proxy in the router worked. For me, nothing has worked.
When initially got the receiver and was using iOS 5.x on my iPhone, the receiver could be off, and selecting it as an Airplay source would boot it, pause for a few seconds while it did so, then play music. It also worked fine from my computer. Now months later, many iOS updates later, it rarely works. Sometimes I can get it to work if I turn on the receiver, set it to HMG mode, then turn on my iPhone or iTunes, then select it as a source, then click play. Often this does not work, or I need a TV on connected to the receiver, or turning the receiver off then on again will work. However there's obviously something wrong, and something that I'm not noticing.
If I turn the VSX on and put it in HMG mode, then play Airplay to it from any device, it will switch to the Now Playing screen and say connected to the network. The track title does not come up, the album artwork does not come up, the progress bar does not advance (although it does on the iPhone or in iTunes). If you deselect the VSX as the Airplay source, play a new song, then select the VSX as the source again, the TV screen updates, but with the _previous_ info, ie the first song title, and the album artwork for the last song I tried to play. It still never plays. It's almost comical how confused it is: my iphone is playing Smashing Pumpkins set to the VSX as Airplay source, the TV shows Aesop Rock is the song title playing, and the album art is a Tool cover.
I'm at a loss. I think with Lion, iOS 5 and iTunes 10.x this would work again. As it stands, I have a new phone that has to run iOS 6, and my computer is updated to Mountain Lion and iTunes 11. My receiver, which used to be so boss (walk in the door with headphones, unplug them and select the VSX and after a brief pause the music would keep playing, nice!), is now just such a disappointment. Any thoughts?

In case you all didn't find the resolution to the wired/wireless issue here it is. I too have Verizon FIOS and experienced the same exact symptoms as described above (except that I have a Pioneer VSX-1122 and not a Denon). Simply disabling IGMP Proxy immediately fixed all of my problems. Not sure why everything worked fine to begin with and then stopped but in any event, it's resolved.
If using a Verizon Actiontec router .... on the router, go to Advanced (accept the warning) and go to the IGMP Proxy menu and disable IGMP Proxy which should resolve the issue. The issue here generally only presents when the AVR is wired directly to the Actiontec router and the iDevice is connected wirelessly. Note however, that if streaming IPTV, disabling this proxy will also disable the IPTV connection, so in that case you'll need to leave IGMP enabled and place an ethernet switch between the Actiontec and the rest of the network. -
Unable to export photos attached to emails to iPhoto (Mountain Lion op.sys)
I am able to right click on photos in Mail and see the drop down menu thta includes "Export to iPhoto", but when I left click on that, nothing happens. the only siolution is to save the photo as a separate file and then import to iPhoto. I never had to do this before I upgraded to Mountian Lion (and the latest update to that whcih was released last week).

Remove CCleaner from your Mac. Third party so called cleaning utilities are not necessary on a Mac and often cause more harm than good. Your Mac runs maintenance for you in the background.
Use this free utility to remove CCleaner > Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
Then download and install the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo)
That reinstalls the App Store for you which may help.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed. It's ok to do this even though your Mac is already running v10.7.4.
Then try downloading Mountain Lion. If you still have problems, disble anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy then try again. -

After upgrading to Moutain Lion a few days ago, I am noticing that I have many duplicate photos in my library now. Sometimes up to 5 copies of the same photo. They are mostly titled "untitled" instead of their correct IMG_5654 for example.
I have my duplicate backup of my library that I booted up on my older Snow Leopard-equipped macbook pro and the files are all good.
According the to the count of "Photos" there are something like 10,000 duplicates now!
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? My iphoto library dates back a few years and has about 60,000 photos in it, organized with keywords.
Major bummer. I hate upgrading iphoto. Ugh.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

HT1338 macbook pro 2010 Mountain lion iOS 10.8.2
Hi there. Ive been trying to sort out a problem for some time - say- 2 to 3 months. When I boot up in normal mode and open an application, my screen blinks for a nano-second regularly about every 12 seconds, and any drop down menus close, and entering text in email etc. stops and sounds a bell for every key letter typed, showing I am no longer entering text. What a pain in the neck!
Apple advised me to hold down cmd, alt, r and p - all together immediatley after start up, before the grey screen appears, and hold until the start-up sound is heard again, then release.
This doesn't work, in fact it makes no difference at all. I am advised by them that this will cure a hard drive problem, but it doesn't.
Sarting in Safe Mode, however, does cure the problem whilst I stay in safe mode, but it returns when I start up normally. Working in safe mode is a real slow process! It too locks up after a while, then resumes normal service.
Any ideas guys? Can I scan the Hard Drive for faults? what else can I do?

Martin.Safe mode disables many third-party extensions, add-ons, plug-ins, etc. Read Safe Mode to see what specifically is disabled. Most likely one or more of those items could be causing the problem.
You can also try creating a new user account with admin status. Log out of your account and into the new one. Does this stop the problem? -
