IPhoto movie wont open

I recently synced my Sony Cyber-Shot digital camera to my iPhoto library. The 231 photos included one video that I wanted to send to iMovie to edit. When I try exporting the movie I leave the original format and iMovie can't recognize it when I try to import it. The end of the file name says MPG I don't know if that if the wrong format for iMovie. If so how do I change it to a mp4 file? I have tried using Handbrake but it doesn't recognize the file as a valid source.

MPEG Streamclip (free) can convert your MPEG-1 files to DV Stream for use in iMovie.

  • Iphoto movie wont open with quicktime

Movies in Iphoto used to play with quicktime but have stopped playing

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run  Option #4 to rebuild the database
2 - try playing the videos again in iPhoto.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
    or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • There's a glitch somewhere. iphoto just wont open. upgraded to yosemite and downloaded iPhoto upgrader and it doesn't work, just keeps telling me to upgrade when I did already or quit, so no way to do photos on this brand new mac. that's a pity!!

You need to have iPhoto 11 v9.6 (which you can get from the App Store) to use iPhoto on Yosemite. If you already have iPhoto 11 then the update is free. Otherwise it's a purchase.

  • Iphoto library wont open.

After selecting iphoto library from external drive it iphoto still cannot open the library?

My hard drive recently crashed so I got a new one and had everything moved over to it. I can still see all the pictures so I think they are there it just wont photos to a single bigger view of the them.
How did you move your iPhoto Library to the new drive?
What you are seeing in iPhoto are the thumbnails or previews of the edited versions, but to edit or export or copy your photos does iPhoto need to find the original image files.
If you moved your iPhoto library to a new disk, it may be a permissions problem.
Before you try to rebuild the library, try to repair the permissions first:
Press and hold down the alt/option key ⌥ and the command keys at the same time and launch iPhoto. Keep holding down both keys until you see the First Aid panel.  From the panel select to "Repair permissions".
If that does not already fix it, try all First Aid options in turn, but don't try the "Rebuild" without a backup.

  • My iphoto app wont open

    my iphoto app wont open

Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.
Next thing to try is a reboot of your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the devise restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Also some folks have found that a corrupt photo file causes iPhoto for iOS to crash. Removing all photos and recopying them to the iPad one or two albums at a time allowed some to find which photo was causing the problem and delete it.

  • IPhoto, iChat, wont open "due to a problem"

iPhoto and iChat do not open, they close "due to a problem". I have repaired disk permissions a plethora of times, I used Disk Warrior to rebuild the partition. And Ive done everything, including deleting preferences (plists, etc). I appreciate any help.

You may have older version of iPhoto and iChat that were written with Power PC code. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info and then System Report . When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.

  • IPhoto '08 wont open

    Hi everyone
    I have iPhoto '08 and iMac OS X 10.5.8
Yesterday I  imported a lot of photos from Photobucket to iPhoto.  They were imported OK.  A little later I attempted to open iPhoto by clicking on the dock but nothing happened. I have tried every way I know of opening the app  but to no avail. The following is a copy of what shows when I right click on the icon on the dock.
This is not the first time I have lost photos on iPhoto.  Luckily the Apple genius bar has recovered them in the past.  In the meantime prior to my appointment with them can anyone help with any suggestions
    Many thanks

    Nothing unusual there.
But it odes suggest that iPhoto is actually running - otherwise you wouldn't have the Quit option.
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • My time machine backup of address book and iphoto etc wont open

So I'm about to do a bunch of stuff on my computer and want to make sure that my time machine backups are going to be able to be restored and that I can unpartition my bootcamp drive safely. I will be downloading SnowLeopard, Parrallels, and some other software. I really want to make sure that certain apps, such as address book, iphoto, and itunes have been backed up correctly and that they will be able to be restored. When I opened my time machine backup folder and clicked on those three apps, it gave me an error code. I don't want to start doing all of the things listed above without being confident that I will be able to recover any stuff that may get lost. How do I accomplish this?
Also, how do I unpartition my drive to get rid of Bootcamp?
    Thanks

If I understand what you are saying ... the movie is trying to finish downloading???? Tap on it to try to get it to resume downloading.
Make sure that you do not have another stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to finish the download

  • Original iPhoto library wont open

    iPhoto.app version: 9.5.1
    OSX Version: 10.9.4
In my Pictures folder I have:
    - iPhoto Library
    - iPhoto Library 2
    * iPhoto Library (original) is huge, 461.19 GB
    * iPhoto Library 2 is empty, which is okay as I created it trying to fix the issue of iPhoto Library (original) not opening.
    What the problem is:
    - iPhoto Library (original) doesn't open
    Here is what I've tried:
    - Creating a new iPhoto Library 2
    Here is an additional issue
    - Since I've created the iPhoto Library 2, iPhoto Library (original) does not display as an option to select if I open iPhoto.app and hold down the option button.
So I can't select the iPhoto Library to while holding down the option and command buttons, this only brings up the repair menu for iPhoto Library 2.
Iv'e tried to select the iPhoto Library (original) by opening iPhoto.app and holding down the option button, then selecting the Other Library button, finding the iPhoto Library (original) and then selecting it (BTW that's how I know what size it is). I can select it, but clicking the Open button does nothing.
NOTE: I'm a software engineer and have no problem using the command line, I'm thinking this is a permission issue or a database issue it just needs to be reindexed.
Question: I know from the command line I can reindex application data such as the mail.app, can I also do this with the iPhoto.app?
    Any other suggestions?

to get the first aid option Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • Iphoto 11 wont open up

i updated my iphoto 11 and it opens up but all it does is stay there and just keeps loading and none of my pictures come or anything i need help please help me .

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Movie wont open

I had been working on a movie in imovie and I stopped in June. Went I went to work on it today, it would not open. The movie is there in the movie file, but when I click on it imovie opens but with nothing. I have tried opening other movies and they work. How do I open this one?
    Thank You

Hi neddy - welcome to the forum!
Control+Click on the project icon - it's really a package. Then click on Show Package Contents.
Open the Media folder - is anything there? All of your movie's clips should be in there.
You could also open the .mov file in the Cache folder and see if it plays.
    Tell us what you find.
