IPhoto - Music Fade

I created a slideshow in iPhoto that included still photos and a few short video clips.  I removed the sound on these videos so the music track could be heard constantly.  However, when the slideshow plays, the music fades each time the videos start.  Any help would be appreciated.

You're welcome.
Looks like another reason to pay the price for a more professional slideshow program.  I'm looking at Fotomagico.
Or upgrade to Aperture - just a thought. In Aperture you can layer several soundtracks and effects  in a slideshow and control the volume of your video clips. You can open your iPhoto libraries in Aperture, since both apps are sharing the same library.

in iphoto, can you create a custom playlist for a slideshow where you make the music fade vs end and start?

No.  You would have to create a special audio file containing all of tracks you want with the fade in and out at the beginning and end.  There are audio editors that can do that.  Go to MacUpDate.com and search for "audio edit" to get a list of potential applications.  I use Amadeus Pro which works well for me.

  • Exporting slideshow results in unwanted music fade

Hi all, I sure hope someone can help. When I create a slideshow in iPhoto '09 and set music to it, it plays back great. But when I export the slideshow, using any method (specifically to .m4v or .mov), the music fades by the end of the slideshow. It's disconcerting, because that's not how it plays back in iPhoto. It's also troublesome because it's not what I want! It's not even a normal fade over the last few seconds - it starts early and goes very slowly, lasting the final 30-60 seconds. Bizarre. Anyway, I need to get rid of it. I've searched every option to no avail, in both iPhoto and iTunes (where I'm pulling my music from). Please help - I have a project due on Thursday that I've got to fix this for!
I am aware I can export the slideshow with no sound, import to iMovie and add my music there. I'm prepared for that contingency, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Does anyone have an answer for me? Is there an option I'm missing somewhere, or any other way of getting rid of this unwanted fade? Thanks in advance for any help.

Stewy and others, after much experimenting, I figured out the problem: when you have your slideshow set to "Fit Slideshow to Music", it fades the music slowly and early. If you have your slideshow set to play a certain amount of seconds per slide, the music plays fine. Note that the music plays fine both ways in iPhoto itself, which is why it was so tricky to track this down, but when you export your slideshow, "Fit Slideshow to Music" = bad. I don't consider adding a black slide to the end to be a satisfactory solution; it still throws all the timing off. The only real solution (that I could find) is to consider the "Fit Slideshow" feature to be broken (which it is - I hope Apple is reading this), and not use it. Instead, just manually fit the slideshow yourself. It's a pain and it takes a few minutes, but the resulting export is worth it.
Apple - this is definitely a bug. It's also worth noting that it only happened AFTER I updated a freshly installed iPhoto '09 to the latest update, so it was a bug introduced in an update. Straight out of the box, this doesn't happen (though there are other worse bugs that are fixed by the update, so it's still worth updating and handling this particular bug manually). I sure hope this bug is fixed soon, though, because the "Fit Slideshow" feature is very useful, and having to do it manually *****.
Hope this helps others out there - I searched Google quite a bit before giving up and posting here.

  • Since I have iTunes match, why does my iTunes library not appear in iPhoto music options for slideshow?; only songs purchased or placed on iTunes over a year ago appear in the iPhoto library under the iTunes or purchased option.

Yes, I am signed in to iTunes match on the macbook pro, iPhone , & iPad (all updated & correct music libraries) where I bought all the tunes but still no updated tunes on the iPhoto music library after 3 days of being on iTunes match.

  • Music fades and turns off after a few seconds of playback.

I've noticed an odd problem with the ipod/music function of my iphone 4. When start an album, the first song will play for about 15 seconds. After that, the music fades and stops all together. I have to physically go back and push play again. It will play fine for some time, but this will happen again randomly.
It's particularly annoying when using the phone in the car. I know the iphone automatically does this if you unplug the headphone jack while the music is playing. I wonder if something could be wrong with that mechanism, maybe the jack.
I also only noticed this after updating to 4.3. If it's a 4.3 issue hopefully the next update (4.3.1?) will fix it.
Has anyone else had this issue/figured out what its all about?

So I did call Apple. That was pointless since they had no idea what was wrong. I made an appointment with a Genius at the Apple store nearest to me. The associate who checked me in said his wife had the same problem (and discovered it while on an 8 hour flight, which stinks).
The genius who helped me was great. He had no idea what the issue was and hadn't heard of the issue before, so he took my phone into the back room and ran some diagnostics.
He found that there was nothing wrong with the hardware at all, but he noticed an error with my firmware.
He restored my phone (while my phone was plugged into itunes he held down the home and wake/sleep buttons. Then when the apple logo appeared he let go of the sleep/wake button but kept the home button pressed). This erased everything. I wasn't worried about that since all my contacts, apps, and music were backed up on my computer.
I guess he reinstalled the latest firmware and os update. He put a couple of albums worth of music on there too for me to test it. Problem solved.
It took an hour or two for me to get everything back onto my phone and in its proper place.
That was a pain, but worth it since I can now listen to music freely with no interruption.
The only thing I'm really ****** about is that my game data is all erased. Apparently when you back up your apps in itunes, it doesn't back up your progress/saves/scores in your games. I have about 30 games on my phone so this really, really *****. I guess I will just have to replay all the levels in Angry Birds, Peggle, Cut the Rope, etc. Lost a lot of progress in Infinity Blade which is pretty especially awful.
I just listened to about a half hour of music with no interruptions though, so I guess its a fair trade.
    Good luck.

  • Noise after music fades out (headphones)

    Hi there!
I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this...
When I receive a call and I'm listening to music through headphones, it will fade out, ring, then fade in again and resume the song when the call ends. However, the "fade out" process has a glitch, where some static noise is heard just as the music fades out completely and before the ringtone begins. I found out that this only happens if the iPhone's display was off (ie, sleeping). If it happens to be on when you receive the call, the fading process is 100% clear. This makes me suspect it has to do with the turning on of the screen.
Can anyone confirm that this is an issue and not some problem with my equipment?
    Thanks!

I found that it happens whether you're using headphones or not, so it's definitely an internal (software) issue.
    Has anyone else noticed this?

  • Longer than 2 sec music fade tip

I have been frustrated at the maximum 2 seconds for fading music, but have found a work-around that others may find helpful. It's a bit clumsy, but pretty easy and works well.
Let's say you want a 4 second music fade:
Set the fade on your track to the 2 seconds max. Then insert a 2 second sound clip (say from the sound effects menu) onto the track so it begins 4 seconds from the end of the music track. Set the audio on this sound effect clip to 0%, and check the "ducking" box and set other audio to duck to 50%. This will make your music drop to 50% for 2 seconds and then fade completely in the last 2 seconds for a 4 second fade.
As I said, not ideal as technically the first 2 seconds is a sudden drop to 50% audio level, and you also have the issue of any sound from the movie dropping 50%, but it's the best I've come up with. Of course you could go nuts and import two 1 second audio clips and duck the first to 75% and the second to 50%...
You can of course also use the audio on your movie clip to begin ducking the audio to 50%, and if it's a longer movie clip then you can split it to duck the music as you need to. But if it's a title clip then you don't have that option on the audio (with iMovie09) and so you have to import an extra sound effect clip.
If someone knows a better way to get a longer music fade, I would love to hear it...

I have also been frustrated by this limitation. 08 had the ability to transition the fade between two points.

  • How can I play only part of a song (stop the song short) during a slideshow in iphoto and fade into the next song?

I am making a slideshow and I only want to play half of one song and fade into the next. How can I do this?

You need an slideshow app that gives you more control over the Soundtrack.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
    iMovie, on every Mac sold.
Others, in order of price:  PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express  $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.  However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • IPhoto music

When tying to use iPhoto in Front Row the screen goes black on my MacBook and a few seconds later a message appears stating that it cannot find the music I've selected as background. Can I turn this option off in Front Row. I've gone into iPhoto itself and played a slide show and the music works fine and I can also have it on or off, however, Front Row doesn't seem to give me this option. But why can't it find my music selection.

  • I am having trouble with the handle bars for music fade in and fade out.  It doesn't work.  I also cannot see wave forms for music.   Cannot select - it is grey.  On a deadline and really having problems.

I am trying to finish a video and I want to fade the music in and out.  I have read every tutorial I can get and the help info in iMovie.  Nothing helsp.   I cannot get it to fade by just sliding the handle bars.   Other times, the music mutes completely when I try to add a fade.   I try to view wave forms for music and it does not allow me to select .   it remains grey.   I am getting frustrated.  I had no problem with 11 version.   I now have 10.0.2 version.   Can anyone help?   my computer is latest Mac Book Pro 2013

    This is described in:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov3b5ded23e
A tip though - if you have a transition at the start or end of a clip it often obscures the fade handle.  Trick is to temporarly move the transition (or delete it), move the fade handle then replace the transition.

  • Archiving emails in Entourage, photos in iPhotos, music in iTunes

Getting message "start up disk almost full". Need to make space by taking files off the PowerBook G4.
Have a 500GB external hard drive. What is the best and safest way of archiving emails, photos and music to make room?
    Thanks

For iPhoto you can move your iPhoto library to the external drive and run with it there - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library as a single entity to the EHD - launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and point iPhoto to the new library location - once you test it there you can quit iPhoto and trash the iPhoto library on the internal drive (I suggest launching iPhoto and testing one last time before you empty the trash)
Note that you should always have 10GB or more of free space on your boot drive

  • Trouble with music fade out

I just finished a photo slide show in iMovie and have used iTunes music from a CD. The problem is that my slide show is shorter than the music and I want to do a "fade out" with the music. I've done this before with music within the iMovie program where I select "show clip volume levels" from "View"; however, I can't get this to work with this piece of music. Those levels just don't show for me to do the fade out!
Any ideas on what I can do or am doing wrong?
    Thank you!

    Hi Scottis!
In the timeline, click on the audio clip and use the usual volume adjustment, i.e. pull down the end of the 'volume line' until it slopes downwards.

  • IPhoto music problem

    Hello,
I've searched for the answer to this problem in the threads but can't find it.
I have an odd problem with an iPhoto slideshow. I can set it all up correctly, but when I transfer it to iMovies to then burn a CD in Toast Titanium, only the first tune in the playlist plays. The music then stops. How do I get all the music to play continuously?
Bizzarrely, this works OK on the slideshow before transfer

    Hi nodger13,
    Only one song exporting with
    Slideshows
Right now, this seems to be a know
problem/bug with iPhoto 5. There have been some
work-arounds. Don't know if the problem is with
iPhoto, Quicktime or a combo of both.
    -From Bob
Worthington: re-ripping the cuts I wanted as
background music for the DVD as a single cut in
iTunes. I then made a playlist containing the one
    extended cut of music.
    -Old Toad: share to
Quicktime from iPhoto and then import the resulting
movie into iMovie you can extract and delete the
audio from the video and add the two songs to the
    video and save.
Quicktime Pro-open the movie and bring up the Movie
Properties menu window. In the top window select the
    audio track and delete it.
    If you want more than
one song you'll have to join them together with
iMovie or some other application. Then open that
joined file with QT Player. Then do a select all and
copy. Now go to the QT window of the movie and select
the Edit->Add to Movie menu option. You don't want to
scale it because it will change the play speed of the
audio unless it's time is exactly the same as the
    movie.
You could go the other way, open the movie,
select all and copy, and then past with scaling to
the audio. That will change the speed of the movie
and transitions to fit the audio track. In this case
the resulting video file will have the name of the
audio track file that you started with.
    You may
have to play with it a bit to get exactly what you
want. Be sure to work with copies of all the media
    files for the project.
    -Peter Burtwistle: I
opened the Qt movie that iPhoto makes when you export
to iDVD and removed the sound track.
    Then made a
new soundtrack by opening all three songs in QT, then
    cutting and pasting them together.
    Finally use QT
Pro's 'Add to Movie" option to add the soundtrack to
    the original movie.
This worked well and was fast
    to do too.
-Joe Lombardo: I ended up having
to extend the songs by 20 seconds so I brought them
all into GarageBand and made some edits. Then I
exported them all to iTunes as a single track and
    used that for the slideshow
From scotty321 at MacOSXHints.com: If you have Roxio Toast Titanium
installed on your machine, you can join unprotected
tracks yourself by simulating a disc burn. Simply
    take these steps:
Go to the Audio tab in Toast.
Drag your audio files from iTunes into Toast.
Reshuffle them in the proper order within Toast.
Go up to File: Save As Disc Image. Save your disc
    image somewhere on your Desktop.
Choose Utilities: Mount Disc Image. The CD will mount
on your desktop, and iTunes will think that you just
    inserted a CD.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to
join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go through the import process, and you've got a
joined track! Simply rename the track to whatever you
want to call it, and you're good to go.
    From Lori...
    Burn the playlist in
    iTunes.
Make sure you have itunes Prefs just open the Cd and
not automatically play or import the songs.
Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to
join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
When done, make a new playlist named after the
    slideshow.
Put the new combined track into the playlist.
In iPhoto, select this playlist for your
    slideshow.

  • Music fade feature for Ipod Classic?

I was recently listening to a new Itouch and noticed that when I was listening to a song and then selected a new song without letting the current song finish, the music on the "Now Playing" song fades away. How can I get my Ipod classic to perform this function?

You can send feedback/feature requests directly to Apple at this link. However existing Classics and Touches are quite different devices so it may not be something that's technically possible on existing Classics. It might be something that could be introduced on a future version: Apple Product Feedback

    Maybe some help here:
To add music to a slideshow:

If you don’t see your iTunes library in the Source pop-up menu:
    Try the following:
Quit both iTunes and iPhoto. Open iTunes first, and then reopen iPhoto.
If you recently installed iLife software, it’s a good idea to open each application in the following order: iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, and then iDVD.These applications use one another’s media libraries, and opening the applications in that sequence ensures that you see the most up-to-date versions of your music library, photo library, and Movies folder no matter which application you’re using.
If you still don’t see your iTunes library, try this:
Quit iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iTunes.
In the Finder, locate your iTunes folder. It is usually in [Home]/Music/iTunes or [Home]/Documents/iTunes. If it’s not there, search for it.
Open the iTunes folder and drag the iTunes Music Library.xml file to your desktop.
Open iTunes and create a new playlist (choose File > New Playlist).
Quit iTunes and open iPhoto. You should now see your iTunes library when creating a slideshow.
