IPhoto no longer compatible because of Maverick upgrade - help!

My son upgraded my computer to Maverick and now iPhoto will not work.  Will I lose all my photos if I upgrade iPhoto to be compatible with Maverick?  Also, all my folders in my mail have disappeared - does anyone know how to retrieve them?

If you have a Time Machine backup, you can restore the 'old library' if the need arises.
Mail.
Restore Mailboxes and their Content
If the mailboxes are gone.
Your mailboxes are in your User Library folder which is hidden by default.
Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2.  Enter your backup with that folder selected. Find the mailbox and restore it.
If you would prefer to make your user library visible, go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. You might need to redo this after an update.

  • Iphoto 9.5.1 crashes with mavericks upgrade

I have a few questions reference the latest Mavericks upgrade.
Why does Iphot 9.5.1 crash with the Mavericks upgrade?
Why doesn't it regognise my Toshiba external hard drive anymore?
Why doesnt it recognise My Passport for the backups anymore?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • HDMI Out From 27inch iMAC No Longer Has Audio Post Mavericks Upgrade

After upgrading to Mavericks my Mini Displayport->HDMI out is no longer outputting audio.
Is this happening to anyone else?  Any line on a solution?

I am having the same issue, and have posted a reply to a similar issue in the mavericks forum.

  • Iphoto no longer works after my yosemite "upgrade".

    A little help here Apple.

No "Apple" here - this is strictly a user to user support forum and we can not see your or your computer
If you want help form Apple then you need to contact Apple
If you want help from us but to get it you actually have to provide information - what version of iPhoto? Why doesn't iPhoto work?
simplest answer is that you must also upgrade iPhoto to version 9.6 - backup your iPhoto library and download and install 9.6 from the App store

  • BB Desktop Manager no longer works with Mac Maverick - Need Help Urgently

I have been a loyal Blackberry user since the Government of Canada officially began using these cell phones. I feel, however, abandoned by Blackberry (they obviously don't believe that it is easier to retain an existing customer than acquire a new one). I'm using a Blackberry Bold (9900) with a Macbook Pro. Everything was fine until I upgraded my Mac operating system to Maverick; my Blackberry Desktop Manager no longer works, so I cannot sync the content (contacts, calendar) of my phone with my Mac, but that's not the worst of it.
I recently had a momentary lapse and exceeded the 10 password attempts to access my phone... this accidentally wiped my phone clean... and because Desktop Manager does not work with Mac, I do not have a way to recover my data. Rogers was of no help and had Blackberry updated its desktop software months ago, as it should have, this issue would have been moot. I do not know how or why, but I was able to recover most of my data, but I'm not sure just how up-to-date tha data is and am still going through it, but I'm having issues with some functionality.
I'm in the US for several months and have suspended my Canadian services. Prior to the wipe, I was able to use wifi on my phone to send and receive emails with no problem.  After the wipe, I can't send emails or bbms.  I checked my blackberry internet service and all email accounts are good to go. BBMs are another issue.  I need help.  Suggestions please.

Apple has ceased synchronization with Mavericks. The issue lies with Apple, not with the desktop software. To mitigate the lack of sync capabilities in Mavericks you can sync your contacts and calender on your Mac with the usual suspects (Yahoo, Google). Create a backup (archive) for Contacts and Calender on your Mac first, then create one of those email accouonts that allow syncing. On your 9900 and with BlackBerry provisioning enabled create the new or existing email account. See which email accounts can sync with BB, I know Yahoo is working fine. For Yahoo, get the Yahoo Calender sync (a few bucks one-off payment required), Contacts sync works off the shelf within BB. If you reset the 9900 you should be able to restore all data with BB DTM. Please note that emails you received during the 9900 reset and the date of restore will not be available on the device. You will still not be able to sync contacts/calender over BB DTM. I hope that helps.

  • IPhoto tooooo slow (spinnging wheel).  Will upgrading help?

I saw a previous post about a user getting the spinning wheel when working in iPhoto. I followed Lori's instructions to create a new library, but t's still happening. I'm using iPhoto 2 - just never got around to updating. I've ordered iLife so I'll get i Photo 6 in a few days. Could this resolve the problem? I only had about 2500 photos in my library (about 5000 now in the new library). I can't even sit and remove the doubles from the new library because I get the spinning wheel too frequently and it stays toooooo long. Thoughts???

You will see a MAJOR increase in speed over all those versions

  • Quicklookd quit unexpectedly-started with mavericks upgrade- help needed?

I've been getting continuous problem reports on my mac ever since I upgraded to mavericks on quicklookd quitting unexpectedly. I use this application a lot for quick previews on jpeg and tiff files. I’ve looked at similar problems like this over the net, but none of them are quite like mine since their identifier, path, and parent process all differ. I did run into an answer that suggested I delete the source file (quicklookd), but I’m afraid that if I do that the quick look function will be completely unusable.
I have 10.9.2 version, and this is the report that keeps popping up

Although Onyx did fix things temporarily, I am still getting these alarming problem reports and I seriously don't know how to fix this unless I keep on running Onyx maintenence every once in a while. If more information on these errors are needed please say so:

  • I can no longer burn DVDs since the upgrade - help!

Ok, new problem for me with my iMac and Lion.
I did the upgrade, and all weekend I've been trying to get some DVD's to burn to backup my photo library.
The seem to burn ok, but fail on the Verify step and the message indicates (roughly) "verify failed, disc may be unstable"
It ejects, and I can't put it back in and do anything with it.
These are DVD +R...they were working before the upgrade.
    How can I troubleshoot this?

I habe the same problem and cant find a helpful post on the web!
How can i get it back to work???

  • Macbook air battery cut in half after Mavericks upgrade- help?

    Hey everyone,
I have a mid-2013 MBA that would get 10-12 hours of life, on average, with ML. After upgrading to 10.9 though, the battery life has been cut in half. Not only that, but the battery still drains when I have the lid closed and runs hot inside of my bag. This used to never happen before. I have performed SMC and PRAM resets multiple times and I am almost at my wits end. I travel extensively and I purchased this MBA specifically to not worry about my battery life! Quick note, I have not installed any new programs since the OS update and my usage has remained consistant.
Thank you all for your help!

I don't think so. App Nap seems to be in place for all of my programs. Recently, I have resigned to removing chrome and my anti-virus software. Unfortunatly, this did not really solve the problem. It extended my average battery life by MAYBE an hour or so, however, I am still seeing significant battery drains and laptop heating when the lid is closed. I have resigned to taking my laptop in soon. I have attatched another etre check output though if you wish to see an updated log:

  • HT6114 HP Office Jet Pro 8500 Scanner no longer works with Mavericks upgrade

I have an all-in-one printer/copier/fax/scanner, HP Office Jet Pro 8500.  The scanner no longer works with the Mavericks upgrade.  Is it possible to get the scanner back in use?  The printer and fax is fine, but I really use the scanner a lot.  Please helap me.

The following link to the HP Support site indicates that scanning is still supported for the OfficeJet Pro 8500 using Mavericks but also indicates that "you may need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mavericks." See the FAQ section of http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03967522&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &os=4159&product=3752456&sw_lang=#N1237

  • Firefox is no longer compatible with a screen reader programs why?

Firefox 4.0 is no longer compatible with screen reader programs such as zoom text. I'm a visually impaired user and have never had problems until now. I want to revert back to 3.5 because now 4.0 is useless to me. If it isn't broken don't fix it. Mozilla just made things worse for me. Thanks a lot.

Your screen reader is no longer compatible because it's author has not updated it for FF4
    Credit Tony E
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data. See https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+Firefox
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use
    your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of
installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • IPhoto 9.1.5 won't update because of different user, after Mavericks upgrade.

After my Mavericks upgrade half a year ago I can't update iPhoto. I've tried everything from removing the _MASReceipt and nothing works. First it says "This update is not available for this Apple ID..." and then "There was an error in the App store. Please try again later".
As far as I remember iPhoto was installed when I got the computer, so I don't understand.
Several times I've tried to solve this but always given up after trying for a very long time and nothing works.
    Any solutions?

You need to log into the Apple ID that was used to set up the computer to update the software than came on the computer

  • I have an Epson scanner that is apparently no longer supported  because it is a PowerPC app.  It's a very good scanner that worked fine until I upgraded to OS Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro.  Any suggestions on how I can continue to use it?

I have an Epson scanner that is apparently no longer supported  because it is a PowerPC app.  It's a very good scanner that worked fine until I upgraded to OS Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro.  Any suggestions on how I can continue to use it?

For that model, Epson has this information:
    ICA Scanner Driver
    07/17/12
Description: The latest Mac OS X ICA scanner driver for your Epson product is available only via Apple's Software Update. Here's how to get it:
    1. Connect the all-in-one or scanner to your Mac and power it on.
    2. Select the  menu, then Software Update.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the available updates.
Note: Software Updates may find multiple updates for your system. You may choose to install all or some of the updates by clicking on Show Details.
Compatible Systems: Mac OS X (v10.8.x)

  • HT5988 I downloaded Mavericks and now my WD Smartware that I use for Time Machine is no longer compatible with this OSX version?  How do I make that unit compatible?  olefromca

I downloaded Mavericks and now my WD Smartware that I use for Time Machine is no longer compatible with this OSX version?  How do I make that unit compatible?  olefromca

I agree entirely, been messing with this since the upgrade to Mavericks but I didn't find it quite as easy as uninstalling the WD smartware as it still operates when you plug the drive back in - I think it gets loaded onto the drive and runs from within (?). The advice from WD was that time machine was faulty and I should contact Apple...thanks guys!
Anyway, for the OP's benefit, this is what I found:
    1. My problem was that time machine couldn't see any further back than before the Mavericks install, but if I opened up and interrogated the WD drive, the old backups were still there.
    2. When TM started doing new backups, it overwrote the ones that it could see, not the oldest ones on the drive. This indicated to
me that the WD software had somehow partitioned off the old backups and excluded that part of the drive from being overwritten. Of course, as the drive was practically full, it meant that any new backups wouldn't fit in the available space.....
    3. The only way I could find to resolve this was to use the disc utility to erase and repartition the external drive. This will obviously remove all of the old files and backups, but I was more concerned about keeping a current profile as backup rather than a load of stuff from months ago.
    4. Anyway, what happens after the eraseure has completed is that you get the WD icon on the desktop, and you're invited to install the software - this means the software has now been deleted. Juts don't reinstall it, just let TM do it's backup and all is well.
Usual disclaimers and warnings about keeping another copy of your system etc. obviously apply, and I know this is a radical move to delete all your old data but it worked for me. I guess I didn't appreciate that you could use the external drive without the software that came with it and just followed the screen guide.
I'm also aware that if you don't want to use TM to do a complete restore and only want to find one old version of a document, this is difficult. However, you can then install the WD software and find the file but you'll then have to do this all again.....

  • After replacement of my hard drive iPhoto is no longer compatible with my lion software - why ?

after replacement of my hard drive iPhoto is no longer compatible with my lion software - why ?
any suggestions on how to fix this ?

what version of iPhoto are you using? i can't begin to answer that - it is no longer listed in my applications & has only a shadow of its icon in the dock
what version did you have before the drive replacement? same answer
what system version are you running? 10.8.5 - the one i was using when the hard drive died
what exactly do you see when iPhoto attempts to launch? -it doesn't attempt to launch - i get a message saying "You can’t use this version of the application “iPhoto” with this version of OS X. You have  OS X 10.8.5. The application requires OS X 10.9 or later".
what have you tried? wringing my hands ! i daren't try anything after the hard drive crash
where is your library located? there is an iPhoto library folder on my desktop with random photos & albums - not all - put there by me - i vaguely remember a problem with iPhoto when i upgraded from snow leopard
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring? after the drive replacement i uploaded saved data from a week old back up and found iphoto looking somewhat sick - no updates were offered in software updates
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library? i'm afraid i do not know what that means
what type of Mac? a macbook pro
how much free space on your boot drive? about 380 GB
thank you very much for your questions - i hope i find some answers
